19 finds & 1 DNF for my 2 days in Railton. This is a good spot to stop. What a great community person Norman Sykes was. Many years of blessings he gave to the future of Railton.
Today we are in Railton and will be here for Christmas. Very nice little town and thus far very peaceful. Our first stop was the Seven Sheds Brewery where we enjoyed a cleansing ale (anything to keep the husband happy). Then on to caches. I need to find 15 per day to get to my 22000 target by year end. So will need to do a bike ride tomorrow to get a few out of the way early on. We realized some of the bike ones are on a road so added them to the list for today then not so many to have to get tomorrow. We found all the caches we looked for today and enjoyed the topiary. This was a nice quick find Norman was an interesting fellow. TFTC
Located with Ricardinho Just one cache in Railton & this was it. Quick find for RNZ. Day 11 of our Tassie/Sydney trip, and today iwe were travelling from Moina to Launceston.A very enjoyable trip stopping at a few cool country Tassie towns, the impressive murals at Sheffield was first up, followed by the topiaries at Railton and finally the sculptures at Deloraine. An awesome day all round TFTC
Just the one cache for us in Railton today, but we enjoyed the topiary on show. This was it, a quick find. TFTC Angus88.Day 11 of our Tassie trip, and today it was Moana to Launceston. We had a pretty good day stopping in at a few rural towns and enjoying the sites. We visited the impressive murals at Sheffield, the topiaries at Railton and the sculptures at Deloraine. All were great stops in their own way, and the planned rain mostly held off. Most of our finds today were adventure lab stages. We got about 22 of those. But we attempted 3 bonus caches and could not find any, and were muggled at a few other spots on other caches.Still had a good day Thanks all COs.
You have been busy Angus, everywhere we go the last couple days you have caches, stamped log and replaced. Thanks to for placing these caches Angus88
Well done.
TFTC,
We are out today visiting locations that we have not previously cached to complete the Tasmainian LGA Challenge.
Thanks to the CO's who have taken us to locations of tourist interest we haven't been to.
Visited trackables.

I’m in Tasmania for a week on a geocaching tour with some other New Zealand geocachers. We are in Launceston for a few days, and today drove over to Devonport and then Leith, taking the long route - NZ_B, Jude_E, GraciesGPSFun and me.
We enjoyed visiting this town and learning about this eccentric character.

Heading home so decided to go via Railton and grab a few caches and this was one of them. I know this trail exists but had not done this part of it. So decided to give it a go. It was a nice day for caching today a bit wet and not raining. TFTC. Cache and content in good condition.
Day 1 of our Tassie adventures! Quick find on the way to Sheffield. Thanks for the cache. Cool statue
It was a Big enjoyable day out caching with ANNAGJW on a nice Sunny winter's day (even managed to get sunburnt). Have had this on our to-do list for some time, so with Anna trying to make it to find her 300th by the end of the month we finally organised a caching day together.! I found my 1100th cache along the way. Nice to get out and have a good day doing caching after not finding many in the last year. Couldn't pick a better day to be out with it being International Geocaching day.
Started at the Sheffield end and worked our way down to Railton. 52 finds including an adventure lab. With only 1 DNF we were happy with the day.
Thanks, Angus88 for placing all these caches for our enjoyment.
Easy find. Also the start of the Adventure lab.

Super fast easy find at a Railton landmark. We also started the adventure lab here that took us back to an area we had already visited. Thanks so much for placing this cache trail Angus88
We have planned this day so many times before and finally today on Geocaching World Record day, CoxFamily7310 and I were able to head out on our Railton to Sheffield adventure together.
We found 52 caches, my highest number in one day!! Our day also included, walking a few km (got a beautiful blister to show for these ), an adventure lab, replaced a cache for another CO, some easy finds, some crazy coords, some slips, slides and falls, crawling in caves, jumping creeks, caching by torch and only a couple of DNFs.
We started at Sheffield today and worked our way back to Railton, completing the track in reverse.
Massive thanks also to CoxFamily7310 for an amazing day

Time to get back to this trail of cahes, having previously only bagged a small parcel higher up the trail. Started with Falls Walk, and now going downhill (although not on bikes). Last of 18 finds, no DNF's for today. Thanks Angus88 for our outing today.
Did a run from Deloraine, Mole creek, Sheffield, Railton and back to Deloraine. Out to get some new and caches I missed the last time here in Tasmania. TFTC this one was missing last time I passed this way.
Found Out and about with 1 Lil Rafa caching for the GC reach the peak game what a lovely three days we had with a trip to tasmazia a trip to Burnie and accommodation at sassafras. TFTC TNLN log dry
Thanks for the cache Angus88.
RLD4963 and I were off to the northwest coast for a couple of days for some geocaching, and to attend a friend's play in Burnie on Saturday night.
After enjoying the play last night, today we decided to grab a few more caches as we made our way back to Hobart.
Stopping at Railton to find a few more caches, this was one we had passed a couple of times. It was nice to see this carving for Norman Sykes after visiting the reserve down the road. What an interesting man. A quick find at GZ.

Real feeling of deja vu here. I'm sure we got a cache in exactly the same spot once before.
Didn't realise the significance of the carving back then though as I didn't stop to read the plaque. Love the Sykes Sanctuary and since discovering it while caching have taken muggles there to visit.
Thanks.

Out and about for our second day on the road in Tassie. We woke up to rain and fog, so put on the coat and decided if in caches were to be found today, I'd have to suck it up. Stopped off and made some great find in some nice areas, despite the weather.
Took off for a walk in the rain while hubby cooked his breakfast while staying in the camp in town. What a great carving and monument. Made a quick find here.
Thanks Angus88 for placing the cache and doing the maintenance, so we can enjoy the find.

This is a great carving, and a god place to put a cache. Was there one here before?
It was TazScout who first mentioned the idea of doing the Sheffield to Railton rail trail caches. I suggested this weekend to tie in with a CITO in Devonport that I had organized to attend, and a plan came together fairly quickly. Hotel rooms were scarce around the area but we managed to find a place to accommodate stainless steel rat, the egg and I. TazScout has a busy weekend so drove out to meet us for the day.
As always, our day started with coffee whilst we did a car shuffle before starting at 'The End'. We talked non-stop as we walked, it had been a long time since all five of us had been together and we had a lot of news to catch up on. The company was great, the weather was perfect, and we really couldn't have asked for a better day.
Thanks for all the caches today.

I love these things they take so much care and it looks great
This weekends adventures was instigated by TazScout with a discussion/statement 'Day Walk' followed by a map of the area around Sheffield and Railton on the 8th of April, after we all talked to our significant others and arrangements made and diaries double and triple checked we had a sort of plan on the 15th and accommodation was booked for a busy weekend of walking between Sheffield and Railton collecting those caches along with any other GC or GCA we could find the time to grab as we were in the area.
Along with a wonderful walk we had time to catch up with friends and find some great caches, so a perfect use of our time, i think we all were better for a caching weekend and swear we wont leave it as long next time, thanks to all the CO's for making this trip possible.
Thanks for the cache.

Had a day out with Stainless Steel Rat and Goose & Egg. Decided we'd tackle the Railton/Sheffield run. Of course we picked the busiest weekend of the month with three events in the area one of which being cycling so we had plenty of company on the track.
A quick walk over the road from the cars, the locals sure do love their loud music but at least they didn't notice us.

I’m pretty sure we have found one that was in the spot before but it must have been a completely different one because there was no smiley on our map. Interesting piece of history about Mr Sykes I think he would have been one interesting fellow.
Hi Angus88...out and about to find the remaining caches from Railton to Sheffield.
Great carving and tribute.
A quick find...many tftc...cheers ST.

18th January 2021. Cache was checked. All in good order but new log in a second container in the hope of keeping log dry. Please replace log carefully,.
Found with Cybergran V and her MuggleHubby as we raiding Railton for all the topiary themed caches we came to find.
The old man on the bike looks familiar.
Maybe we are related.
Dad, is tatue?

This area of caches had been selected to be done after the Community Event held at Latrobe a couple of weeks ago but as it was pouring with rain we left them. Today we headed out with Tassie Trekkers in glorious sunshine to find them. The coords did wander a bit so we were pleased with the detailed hints. A lovely trail. Thanks for placing and sharing this area with us. TFTC
Caching in the area we found your cache along the way.
Cache and contents were in good condition.

A trip to Launceston and Devonport on Thursday and Friday with a a night in Launceston. Thursday was work and Friday was a day off, so I took advantage of the new caches in Devonport and Railton for a run on my way to my target of 500 finds for the year. After a very successful day, I came home with 58 cache finds and 2 and nature lab stages.... so 60 which was a good day considering I was home by 7pm. Thursday weather wasn’t very good, so little was down after work, but Friday was a perfect day for caching. Not to hot not raining.
Really enjoyed a walk along the Tasmanian trail. And all was good until on the back roads to Railton, where one stop I was surprised by a tiger snake, which luckily didn’t seem interest3d in me. To be honest it was about 10 metres away, but going Parallel to my walking path.... I don’t like snakes.
Anyway. Managed to finish The Tasmanian trail whole series which deserves the huge favourite point.
Nice quick find as the cache was uncovered. Covered with a rock

No need for a GPS at this one. A very familiar carving. We were able to locate the container quickly, sign the log and return it to its hide. This area is very visible from many spots. Have let resident family members know that there is a cache here again. The close neighbours are very protective of this monument as many years ago vandals tried to burn it.
Thanks for this cache Angus88. There have been several caches here since we started our caching journey in 2010. Hope this one lasts.
