Yep, that would have been a big tree back in the day. TFTC!Cheers,The Hancock Clan
Tasmania Trip Day 6. It is time to move on from Burnie, and I headed south towards Queenstown. There were of course a few detours, both for counties and for popular destinations Zeehan and Strahan. Unlike the last few days, the roads got quite twisty at times, but the scenery was spectacular and Queenstown although quite on a Sunday afternoon, was an interesting place to look around and find dinner.I have see a few remnants of immense old trees, they must have been too tempting in the past. This was one of plenty of roadside caches I did to help get caches in each county I traveled through. Thanks for the cache Angus8845909.5 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2014 Compass Rose Longevity A#303**Albida**
Wow these stumps are enormous. Found whilst on a drive from Hellyer Gorge to Waratah. TFTC Angus
Some of the tree stumps I have discovered on my travels around Tassie are enormous. And like this one, if they had been left to keep growing, how big would they have got before nature, not man, reclaimed them? TFTC Angus88Keep smiling
In Tassie for the next few months. So many great places to visit and so many different caches to find.Staying nearby tonight but I am enjoying driving through this area and grabbing a few along the way. These trees area great to see. This was an easy enough find while passing by.Thanks Angus88 for placing the cache and doing the maintenance needed, so we can find this cache.
On the way home from a maintenance trip, along the north coast and then down the west coast to Corinna, this one was found to be in excellent condition.
Found as we explored the area on our holiday, and looking forward to returning to explore some more one day, Thanks for bringing us to see these trees, we can only imagine what they would be like if they had been left to grow, very impressive, TFTC and the fun
Unfortunate to lose these massive trees! We can only learn from our previous generation's mistakes. TFTC[I'm logging this a few months after finding the cache, but I have photo evidence if the CO wants to get in contact]
A maintenance check has revealed that all is well but the cache was given a fresh log.
Would have been a massive tree if left. Noticed quite a few similar stumps along this stretch of road. A quick find as we head home after a day caching in Waratah.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thanks for the cache Angus88.
Visiting the northwest of the state for a few days with the two GeoGSP's.
After visiting Waratah, decided to return to the coast via Hellyer Gorge so this was the first one along the road. A nice quick find at GZ.

What a large tree this would have been.

3 days off from work, and Geo Kid O joined me on a journey to Stanley and then down along the western explorer road towards Corinna. We have a great time finding a number of caches and driving a road I had not travelled on before.
The Western Explorer road was closed for a while and recently had been reopened with a new bridge near Balfour. Some very interesting sights along the way, with part of the road feeling more like a forest track, and other parts felt like a place where no one else has gone in the past, other than on the road. The open button grass plains were amazing along with the mountain views.
We stayed in Stanely, and the caches in and around Stanely were very good, including one walk to the top of the Nut. Gee that is a steep 400 metre walk.
Thank you for the cache which was part of our journey

Heading from the north west to the west through Cradle Country and picking up geocaches along the way.
Nice quick drive by, the cache was totally exposed so after signing covered it a bit better. TFTC

We find ourselves in Devonport after a few exploring tassie. Basically done a full lap and we will be back,we have loved all the areas. While waiting for our trip home we decided to go for a drive and see where caching leads us.
Magnificent spot to have a walk, even better since you camp

In Tasmania for a short holiday, after staying in Queenstown now off to Stanley. Quick find by Wazza9, signed log and replaced. Thanks to Angus88
TFTC,
Continuing our 2021 Tasmania adventure which takes us to the North West. Our main goal is to be tourists however a good challenge is always worth trying and our plan is to increase the number of Tasmania Old School caches that we have found. We previously had 2 and believe that all going well can find another 7 this trip.
If Only is a big statement. It is possible that this tree helped to move us forward and added to the standard of living we enjoy today.

Now leaving Waratah we left gooseandegg to their own devices as they headed to Ridgley and we headed with Tassie Trekkers to Somerset via Hellyer Gorge finding caches on the way. Thanks for placing. TFTC
Today we travelled the Western Explorer Road with whitewebbs and gooseandegg collecting cach, great views of the wilderness and the country side..
Cache and contents were in good condition.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment, an enjoyable day with great company.

Hi Angus88.....a detour along the hwy travelling back from a trip along the Mt McCall road.
If I had of been travelling south I could have plucked this cache from inside the vehicle...a quick find.
Many thanks ftc...much appreciated...cheers ST.

This would have been a great tree in the past but unfortunately we use timber which comes from trees like this. This was a quick find with only one car passing after I had completed my signing duties.
Out and about on a maintenance run on our west coast caches and coming home through the Hellyer Gorge. This cache was an easy find on our way home. Good coordinates and the hint meant a quick find. TFTC
Today we decided to head to Corinna to look for recently published caches, hoping to beat the predicted rain. We managed to stay ahead of the rain and after coming back through Waratah, we headed towards Hellyer Gorge to look for three other caches.
Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. Given the clearing in the immediate area, the hide location was obvious too. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks Angus88 for the new caches in the area.

False log has been removed. Congratulations to GOOSEANDEGG on FTF for IF ONLY in this isolated location.
With these caches coming out after we had set off from home we had to add them on the off chance of us getting {*FTF*} and what do you know we got lucky with this one, we were a bit put off with some dodgie fake FTF logs posted online but we looked anyway and were pleased we did.
Well this week myself and Goose were meant to be on the mainland at a Mega and we did think we would be going to this one but with Victoria letting the side down and restrictions on moving between states back in place all the Mega's we canceled or postponed.
With time booked off work we came up with a plan to do a lap of Tassie and collect some of the more out of the way caches in the West and then pick up some others on the North Coast before hitting Launy and then heading South to go home.
From filling the car on Monday to filling again when we got home on Saturday we covered just over 1800Kms, along the way we picked up 18 GCA caches, 57 GC caches, 1 puncture, 1 chipped windscreen and 1 engine warning light.

This would have been a giant beauty once but there is not much left to show for it now. I have to be honest I felt very exposed here but thankfully only one car passed us when we were at GZ. It was just a quick stop and sign. As has already advised,no other signatures appeared in the logbook so happily claiming another joint {*FTF*} with stainless steel rat.
Thanks Angus88
