A few weeks ago I asked rustynz where she wanted to have her 8000th milestone cache to land on. I knew it was coming up soon. She suggested among other caches Mnt Manaia in Whangarei. My ears pricked up… yes! That’s where we should go. Mnt Manaia was supposed to be the place my 4000th cache was meant to be back in 2016. But on the day, the track was under maintenance and so we had to plan somewhere else.

So once that plan was on the go, the ball really started rolling, supernanny suggested a weekend away there too, so I asked Nicholas (Riser5 master of CITO's) if he wanted to organise a CITO for us and we’d come up from Auckland to Whangarei and join him. Once he had a definite date, I booked myself in for 2 nights . And the others did so accordingly.

I showed up about 1;15pm and it was a gorgeously warm day. I chose the upper parking co-ords and wandered down to GZ and the Totara trees in the rocks. I filmed the lovely dropping falls and then settled down to work out my answers for this EC. Made some observations, and put these into my head for later to send to the C.O. I was super impressed to learn about acid secreted from the roots, strong enough to 'melt' basalt rock, how cool is that!

Thanks Karen for your EC today, it was really fun. Answers have been sent via the messaging service.

We are up in Whangarei to collect a bunch of newly published puzzles, and any other interesting caches along the way. We came out to Raumanga this afternoon to check out the waterfall. We followed the track from Raumanga Valley Rd enjoying the scenic bushwalk along the way. Earthcache answers have been sent to the CO. Thanks for showing us these falls, and for making us have a think about them.

Worked on thus Earthcache after the nearby cache wasn't in its cave.

Managed to snap afew sneaky photos to help answer the questions as I came up here in a 'spur of the moment' adventure with some muggle friends. Truly another great unknown Waterfall in the central whangarei district. TFTC

Nice little falls. Need to trim some trees to get a good view. Looks a nice ace for a swim.

I needed a cache in November starting with the letter "R" that wasn't a Trad, Mystery or Multi. Luckily one of my very few unfound caches in Whangarei was this one, which fitted the bill perfectly.

Took the shorter walk option down the path from the top and soon managed to suss out the answers which have been sent to the CO.

Cool find thanks

Parked near the top of the waterfall and a short stroll into the bush. The GPS was not being kind to me today and was all over the place. I went lower down the track than I should have been to start with and down a very slippery steep track to a tree. Then made my way back up to find I was in the wrong place. Gathered information at the hopefully correct spot and enjoyed the sounds of the bush all around. Couldn't locate the nearby trad cache due to the GPS issues I was having. TFTC, Answers sent.

1253. 12:55 pm. GRAkiWi enjoys multi-caches, but I realised that he hadn't tried an Earthcache since he got his own account. Answers and photo to be sent shortly. TFT(Raumanga)C.

New Zealand is such a natural beauty. I cannot believe how gorgeous the scenery is.

I was sent up to Whangarei for 3 days to finish off some work that we couldn't complete before the Christmas holidays. Luckily for me, I was sent up here by myself, which meant I could take the rental out and get some geocaches after I had finished for the day.

As I was based at NorthTec for work, just down the road, I had planned to visit this spot before today but the day I had hoped to go for a walk along here it was bucketing down, so I had to leave my visit for another day.

It was Friday afternoon and I had completed all I could while on-site so decided to leave Whangarei just before 2pm as I had to drop the rental back in Auckland city before 5.30pm and with all the road works and traffic it was taking longer and longer to drive back. I also wanted to leave a little time for finding a few caches along the way, as it isn't too often I don't have work muggles with me.

As I had come straight from work I was still in my work clothes, and grateful that path had dried up after the rain a few days earlier. It was nice and quiet here in the early afternoon and I was lucky not to pass anyone as I must have looked a sight in my shirt, slacks, and dress shoes.

I spent time admiring the waterfall and noting the answers to the questions. Such a beautiful place and so peaceful.

Very nice waterfall and interesting facts about the roots. Answers sent to CO. Thanks for taking us. We are ending our 3 weeks vacation in Northland and still discovering great places like this one. Too bad people don't pick up there rubbish. The place had some broken bottles.

Glad I was able to get a local Earthcache with everything happening around at the moment.

A well deserved location near one of my original caches.

I was coming down today anyway for the cito and to get an earthcache for earthcache weekend. I was very exited when I saw two new earthcaches published. I arrived at gz at about 8 and took my time gathering and thinking about the questions required. Answers sent and the {FTF} logged at 8.45am.

This is another pretty waterfall in Whangarei. I have been here before with the kids. Great to see this made into an earthcache. Thanks Karen Smile
