We hope you enjoyed exploring region of the South Island. Pokai Whenua GeoTour: Wha has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 2 years. It has been so fun!
General log.During our trip through New Zealand we also tried to find as many caches of the geotours as possible. This has been reasonably successful on the South Island. We really enjoyed your beautiful country, the lovely people we met and the many beautiful geocaches we were able to log.To all cache owners and the ministry, a huge thank you for making this possible!Kind regards from the Netherlands.
No chance to even think about searching for this one today, lots of people around, looked like there was something on at the meeting house, will try again another day.
The southernmost point of this morning's holiday weekend drive. Lots of cars were parked up this side road but strangely nobody was in sight? Have struggled with some of the caches in this series however this one was a very quick park-and-grab, even with the great camouflage; TFTC
One my way to visit the folks, but a quick stop for this cache. Collected the "word" and back on the road.
Down for a long weekend chasing PW Geotour and Challenge caches with LL113 and TrinityNZ.
It wasn't until afterwards that I realised the marae was tucked away behind a landscaped bushy frontage, right across the road from the cache! The cache was a quick park and grab in the small grassy picinic area - whew a hot sunny day so was nice to get out of car for a stretch of the legs.
Thanks Jude_E enjoyed learning the backstory about this settlement

Geo-Roadtrip in the South Island with TrinityNZ and JustlookingOO to collect some PWGT's and as many other caches as we can.
A beautiful warm sunny day to be heading south on our adventures. This one was quickly spotted, signed, sealed and delivered back to its hiding spot. Codeword written in a safe place and on our way again. TFTC

Nice easy find on our weekend away seeking out various caches and challenges. Much warmer here than expected
Nice little stop after a day up around mount Somers, despite the road noise, quite peaceful. Cheers for the smiley
Quick find under the stars at -1°c. Found in the 13th hour of the first day of my road trip. TFTC

Found, teachers only day so we are out exploring before the rain hits. Miss 7 loved the container
Little Horrible did the honours for us today Nice to sit on the seat in the sun.TFTH
Day 3 of our South Island hunt for PWGT's. Started with a very wet start from ChCh but before we had got to this cache we were blessed with lovely sunny weather. With this one under the belt its a long drive to the next one. TFTC Jude_E
Continuing our PWGT journey of the South Island, we are on day 3 of our mission and this is yet another area we have never been to before. We seem to be saying that a lot on this caching trip!. The cache was a quick find. Thanks very much for placing a cache here Jude_E, and for the history.
A lovely spot and an interesting write up.
No problems making the find, with no muggles to trouble us.
Thanks for setting this up

Heading home from a day trip with Mr14 to Timaru for a preseason football game. Game over and time to head for home...stuck in a slow moving line of traffic so ducked down here for the find and sign and to get, fingers crossed, a clearer stretch of road. Thanks.
There was something happening at the marae this morning and there were several cars parked in the vicinity of GZ, but none were occupied as we set about looking for the cache. Did not take long to spot it. Thanks.
Looks like lots of construction on the marae at the moment, but it’s a nice peaceful spot!
Interesting history and the whole street has a bunch to look at.
Thanks again!

Thanks again!
There was a car parked at GZ when we arrived but fortunately there was no one around so we could search without the need for stealth.
A bit of circling and head bobbing led to a successful spotting of the cache and we utilised the conveniently placed seat to sign the log.
Interesting spot, we love how this Geotour brings us to places we would never otherwise have visited.
Our 110th stop on the Pokai Whenua Geotour and our 16th stop on PWGT4.

Focusing on the PWGT4 caches with Vistra. Parked near GZ, but had to wait for some muggles to leave before looking for the cache. A quick find once they left.
Drove around South Canterbury today, mainly focussing on the PWGT4 caches, but doing some sightseeing along the way. Parked by GZ, but had to wait for someone to leave before taking a look for the cache. As nice quick find once they left. TFTC!
Out on soggy geo adventures and found this lil gem ️ thanks heaps am learning a lot on the PWGT thanks for this one
A quick find after a long drive from Chch. Quite a lot of SH 1 traffic noise.
Day 3 of the Loopppiiieee Tour (top to bottom, east to west). We are targeting the TWGTs for GraciesGPSfun; as well as the PWGT, CANZ, D/T and some oldie caches for both of us, as well as driving many kilometres AND, just as important, seeing the sights of the South Island and having a lot of fun. TFTC Jude_E.

Stopped off here for dinner and to snag and tag this cache on our way to Ashburton. Needed this little walk. Cheers.
Day 3 - Wednesday 22 December - Lake Pukaki to Timaru, Ashburton. We cached around Tekapo this morning. Mt John road was closed so walked up from the lake. Then headed to Timaru for some TMGT and PWGT. Left after dinner to spend the night in Ashburton
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are of on another Geo adventure this time to Mt Cook for 5 days. Met up with Bullertrout and Bro on the way down. Lake Pukaki was fine but Mt Cook was wet and wild with the Hooker Valley being closed due to high winds, so did not stay long. We went exploring Tekapo, Timaru and a round trip to Lake Coleridge. Short trip and very tiring but awesome.

I have not heard "arowhenua" before. Or even "aro-". Had to look it up. Understanding, or paying attention to. Makes sense. Found when going for a walk after dinner.
Part of a big trip with Taybeedragon to explore Mt Cook. We explored a little of it but there was gale winds, lots of cloud and rain. Some of the tracks had been closed and others were right dodgy given that we did not have our foul weather tramping kit. We had booked to stay for two nights but left the same day. More time to explore Timaru! So now I have been to Mt Cook. Still yet to see Aorangi.

Day 1 - Labour weekend extended road trip with Kiwicampnut - relocated to stay south of the ditch.
Quick find with noone around. Some building at the nearby school could look impressive when it's finished.
Container was not hanging, but managed to get it back where it obviously was originally.
Thanks for the cache Jude_E, this coukd be the last of yours so thanks for the research you did for these and the placements.

On a trip with Ruru_NZ to gather the tour caches needed or in my case not done yet. Should be able to knock them off on this trip.
Hope the locals know about this one as they must wonder at times about cars just stopping for a short time then leaving.

Out for a ride to visit Agent86 in Timaru and then out to grab a few caches. TFTC
First day of school vacation, we stopped to grab the magic word on our way down. Easy find, we had lunch in the temuka domain nearby. Thanks for the history. The landscape and plants were gorgeous. Both container and logbook are in good condition.
A nice easy one - looks like the school is getting quite the make over. Another word sorted, cheers!
Lockdown (Level 4) is for all until 11.59pm Tuesday. Geocachers are expected to comply with the rules - no finding, placing physical containers, stay home, only exercise close to home and keep to your bubbles. Remember to be kind to all. Kia Kaha, we've still got this!

Trust us to arrive just as church was getting out. Thank goodness this was a quickish find and a goody on a wet morning. Enjoyed the history lesson just as much as the nab!!! Thank you J.
Stopping to find a cache here saves me speeding though and getting a ticket, unlike last time.
Down from Auckland for another blitz upon the PWGT caches and other caches that appeal to us. On this trip there is FMZ, rustynz, Rebel98 and myself in Christchurch for 3 days of fun and another adventure.
Our second day and our first cache for the morning. I had excellent baked beans and eggs on toast and coffee, now I'm ready for another full on day. No one around here this early morning, we arrived just before 8am and I found the cache hanging around in the first spot I checked. Rusty did the paperwork after we all did our fotos of the usual code word.
Liked reading up on the cache page as usual. never noticed the marae across the road, but rusty did and took a foto and posted it on her log.

Quick stop and find first thing this morning with rebel, rusty, Bruce and gorby. Stayed the night in a nice little motel in Temuka. Onwards! TFTC!!!
Early morning start, sun up just. It's all grey and it feels like it will be a wet one.
Gorby dived in and soon had the cache.
Interesting history, thanks for the hide. A busy day planned, hopeful no other caches have floated away};)]

Early start, a bit misty, but the sun is up. Cache already found by another group, we could not have missed them by much? Interesting history, thanks for the hide
Nosynel made me pull off the main road and drive to this one. She made friends with a nosy dog while finding the cache.
A fantail was guarding this cache. It's nice and dry inside the cache. This Queens Birthday weekend JDScout and I decided to head over to Timaru in the campervan. Thank you Jude_E, for MinistryofEducation for this cache.

Day #2 of my Geotour.
There were several young Maori workers toiling away clearing the area below the cache today. They had also managed to make the seats at GZ their base for their breaks. I managed to move in, grab the cache and head back to the car without being noticed. A good hide and I would have normally appreciated the seat being provided for carrying out the admin. Luckily I’d also managed to park strategically.

Continuing on our PWGT journey visiting the Canterbury area this weekend. Thanks to all the cachers for their efforts in setting up the GeoTours and sharing the history of New Zealand.
After a super early start we arrived on the first flight from Tauranga and were greeted by a very chilly morning.
We had to wait around to safely complete the search due to PD workers in the area. When the coast was clear we made a quick find TFTC.

Nanzie and I are on a mission to complete the South Island PWGT, this is our first stop heading south from Christchurch. Nanzie made a quick find. Left a TB. Thanks Jude_E

Cache was a quick find and my great grandfather is supposed to be buried in the nearby cemetery
It was very quiet here this morning with the mist still rising on the lower level. The trees were wet from the rain last night.
+ a marble, - nothing.

Kia Ora from Te Whanganui a Tara! Staying at Te Hapa o Niu Tireni for a few days. I was pleased to see a cache right here! Popped out before breakfast for a quick find. TFTC
We choose Weedons as center for a few days caching. Hunting down the PWGT caches and anything close that tickled our fancy. It's interesting to read about the history here. Thank you Jude_E
We decided on a big loop day trip to find the last ten tour caches to complete the South Island so left Weedons at 6am and returned about 7pm having accomplished what we set out to do, leaving a rather large carbon footprint in our wake.
Hazedarus found this one after I had failed to find it initially.
Thank you Jude_E.

#9467. This is the last day of my Easter geotour adventure in the South Island,. Been travelling around with Infoferret since Friday and we have been in North Canterbury, West Coast, inland Otago, inland Canterbury and North Otago/South Canterbury. We stayed in Timaru overnight and are heading north to Christchurch today after doing quite a few caches near Timaru.
Finally making some progress northwards. The roads were busy today. We stopped in Temuka on what seemed to me like a hot summers day (it was 30 degrees two days ago) to find this PWGT cache. I looked in the right spot but failed to spot it. IF looked in that spot as well and from the other side I could see it but she could reach it. Signed the logbook, gathered the code and replaced where found. Thanks Jude_E for the effort involved in setting up these caches. Have enjoyed reading the descriptions about the history of these sites.

6 April 2021 13:25. Now heading north to the last few PWGT caches for today. Still plenty of driving to do though! TFTC
We were on a whirlwind trip around the South Island in pursuit of the PWGT caches. We had an unplanned and unexpected two days on Stewart Island so we were a bit behind schedule but not so much that we didn't have time to complete our mission.
This is our last PWGT cache to find in the South Island, I have really loved reading the descriptions and have several places that I want to revisit on another trip when we have more time and less of an agenda.
It was dark when we were here so GK searched for this one by torch light.
The cache was found, the code word was recorded and we were on our way further up the island to see if we could find an area to park for the night ready to make our way home tomorrow.
Thank you for all of the work and effort you put into making this tour a success and thank you for the smiley

We parked our rig out on the main road so as not to draw undue attention, and Mrs nzk walked down to get the cache. All quiet here on Easter Monday late afternoon. Quick find thankfully, signed, got the code, and a brisk walk back to the motorhome. All good with the cache. Picked up a TB that hadn’t yet been logged in here. TFTC Jude_E, we are impressed by how many caches you have contributed to this tour!
4Clubs and I made a plan to get most of the PWGT4 series over the Easter break. This was our first find and we enjoyed visiting the marae over the road. TFTC

Travelling the south Island collecting geotour caches and if I was lucky some normal trads too - thanks for the cache everything all in good order.
In the South Island from Tauranga on a six week holiday and now following the PWGT. I hope to have the tour completed before I get home.
A bit of activity in area today. Cache quickly found. Nice hide.
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

Enjoyed our drive along the Inland Scenic Route towards this cache, managed to stop for a pie and chips on the way. Arrived at GZ and found the cache easily, it was delightful to sit in the warm sunshine and complete the log. Thank you for this interesting cache placement and for being part of the PWGT series. I have always loved Te Komaka, the Ratana War Memorial Archway down at the corner and thought thats where I was heading so got a surprise to be brought down here. A gorgeous woolly dog arrived just after me and kept me company till I headed off again. TFTC # 16,700
My final weekend roadtrip to complete the Whā GeoTour. Flew into Christchurch Friday night, picked up a rental (it's the fastest car in the world) and off I went. Another weekend of fun and fascinating sights and places, many I've never been to before, learning more about the history of our amazing wee county.
Many thanks to the Ministry of Education for conceiving, planning and organising this fantastic Tuia Mātauranga Pōkai Whenua GeoTour experience, and to all the COs for volunteering their time to place and maintain the caches.
This was day 2 find 6. All quiet down here today so had plenty of time, and needed it. Eventually spotted it, TFTC.

Thanks for this cache, Jude_E. I had found a cache down at the corner previously, and known of the church, but didn't realise the extent of the community.
A lovely peaceful spot.

On a PWGT trip on the way south. Nice break to stop here. Lots of activity nearby with construction and road workers. Loved the seats in the sun. Tftc
Saw the hint and despair set in. I usually get about one in five of these. Luckily this was a one.
