We hope you enjoyed exploring region of the South Island. Pokai Whenua GeoTour: Wha has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 2 years. It has been so fun!
During our trip through New Zealand we also tried to find as many caches of the geotours as possible. This has been reasonably successful on the South Island. We really enjoyed your beautiful country, the lovely people we met and the many beautiful geocaches we were able to log.To all cache owners and the ministry, a huge thank you for making this possible!Kind regards from the Netherlands.
Little rabbit burrow nearby
Got scared and ran away from us
Might return next time and bring him some food

I found this cache while on vacation in New Zealand Thank you for the experience Greetings from Germany
What a fantastic view of Tekapo township. Cache and contents are fine. Thanks for the placement.
A nice view on our walk before we begin our drive over the hills. Great spot for a cache, TFTC
Geo-Roadtrip in the South Island with TrinityNZ and JustlookingOO to collect some PWGT's and as many other caches as we can.
This cache was a fun adventure to get to. Luckily our rental car is a 4WD so there was no issues driving right up to GZ! The cache was a quick find and we stopped to bask in the view for awhile. Thanks for another cache.

On a road trip with LL113 and JustLookingOO. Had a bit of a four wheel drive adventure around here. The cache was relatively easy to find, thanks to the hint. Thanks for the cache
This is the 4th day for Talla64 and me in search of the PWGT South Island caches and it has been a really enjoyable and interesting journey so far. It's many years since we were here at Lake Tekapo so it's a real pleasure to visit the area. We parked in Lilybank and hopped easily over the fence to access the cache which was a quick find. All good here. Nice picnic area, but a bit too early for us to stop for our picnic lunch. Thanks very much for placing a cache in this lovely area Bitsprayer.
Day 4 of Flowerydaze and me hunting for PWGT's and what a spectacular vista that was in front of us. WE couldn't find the entrance to the path so we parked up close the cache and hopped over the fence to locate the cache which was close. TFTC Bitsprayer.
What an absolutely stunning location! We spent the morning exploring the lakes and pulled in for the some disc golf and thought why not make a grab! Cute little pencil in the cache too even though I’d run back to the car to get one
Its amazing to think this area's named after a sheep rustler
Such a beautiful area.
Thanks for putting this here

Great spot by the lake. Neat hiding spot. Have picked up trackable plankton to take south in our adventure
Lovely morning for a walk. Dropped off trackable Plankton.
Lovely tidy cache, love the extra camoflaging cover.
Lovely tidy cache, love the extra camoflaging cover.
Today we are driving what we have termed the Waimate Loop - from Waimate to Timaru via Benmore, Twizel, Tekapo and Maungati.
Made our way to GZ and checked a couple of possible trees before spotting the cache. Thanks.

Great views, after days of rain doing geotour cache, we finally have beautiful weather to do this cache. Thanks for the cache!
Where this cache is located may be at just the angle needed to get some of the best views of the area.
Very peaceful place, thanks for putting a geotour cache here!

Rented some bikes at Annie's in tekapo and went for a small tour along the lake. TFTC!
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at the NZMCA Campsite at Lake Tekapo for a couple of days, exploring in & around the local area … we decided that we would go for a walk around the Lake Tekapo Regional Park … a haven for mountain bikers & walkers … thought it would be rude not to check out the caches in the area … found this one with no issues, signed log & replaced … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,322 for us.
After a walk in the park we stopped by the lake to get this cache. Using the phone Mrs S went one way and Sobad another. He won. Back to put the GPS batteries on charge.
Thanks
Thanks
We parked in the picnic area and walked to GZ.
There were some people playing disc golf on the nearby course, we must give that a try sometime, looks like a lot of fun.
The lake level was very high and many trees were completely surrounded with water creating some great photo opportunities.
Once at GZ we quickly located the cache.
This is a very special place, thanks for bringing us here.
Our 116th stop on the Pokai Whenua Geotour and our 22nd on PWGT4.

We finally managed to get away for a week’s holiday after months of lock downs and cancellations to various trips and flights. After landing in Christchurch we headed to Mount Cook to spend a few days exploring the area, doing a few walks and enjoying the dark sky star gazing, as well as exploring lakes and small towns of the Mackenzie country. We also found lots of geocaches which we enjoyed finding. Thank you to all the CO’s for taking the time to place and maintain these caches.
A quick park on the road side and dash to GZ. All good here, thanks. TFTC!

Drove around South Canterbury today, mainly focussing on the PWGT4 caches, but doing some sightseeing along the way. Walked along the lake to this one and made a quick find at GZ. TFTC!
Another great side to the lake I hadn't visited before, thanks for bringing me down here! Cache was safe and dry in its hide
Down tripping around chasing PWGT caches in a wee Swifty with Etherness, Graciesfun.
Car was able to navigate an off road track that took us right to GZ. Would make a great spot for a picnic - had a lovely view of the township across the calm turquoise lake.
A gaggle of grazing geese decided to get into the water when we arrived, slowly swimming away in a perfect row! Made a great wee photo.
A nice wee hide, all tucked away again. TFTC Bitsprayer

Quick easy find exactly as the hint said. Stunning lake and lots of people frolicking around. Tftc
Decided to drive to as close as possible to GZ. Spotted a young bunny (sunning himself possibly) and a group of Canada geese. TFTC Bitsprayer.
Day 8 of the Loopppiiieee Tour (top to bottom, east to west) and day 1 of the Southland Loop. ItchyFeet2020 and JustLookingOO have joined us. We are targeting the TWGTs for GraciesGPSfun; as well as the PWGT, CANZ, D/T and some oldie caches for us all, as well as driving many kilometres AND, just as important, seeing the sights of the South Island and having a lot of fun.

Beautiful spot for a cache! Nice easy find on our way to Wanaka. Bit of a bumpy drive down the little path haha. tftc!
Finally made it here after driving from Whangarei over 3 days. Sat here for a while enjoying the view and the major start point of my adventure.

After a 4h outing on the lake, severely sunburnt, we stopped and found this, just before heading into town to devour some well-earned f&ch!

Found with mikkyp - got to have a brief chat. Nice hide. And great views here on the lake. Tftc
Enjoying a day at Lake Tekapo. Met up with mrandmrschosen for a joint find. It was good to meet you and have a chat. TFTC
Found just as the day was starting to clear and we venture to the top of the lake. TFTC
Just have to come get this PWGT to add to the list. We parked at the NZMCA park just along from here Monday night. Now we are back to snag this one. The seagnoid says take the high road so we did. A bit dodgy in places but Toby can handle it. Left our calling card here. Cheers. Met a large camper van trying this track but failed and had to back out.
Day 3 - Wednesday 22 December - Lake Pukaki to Timaru, Ashburton. We cached around Tekapo this morning. Mt John road was closed so walked up from the lake. Then headed to Timaru for some TMGT and PWGT. Left aafter dinner to spend the night in Ashburton
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are of on another Geo adventure this time to Mt Cook for 5 days. Met up with Bullertrout and Bro on the way down. Lake Pukaki was fine but Mt Cook was wet and wild with the Hooker Valley being closed due to high winds, so did not stay long. We went exploring Tekapo, Timaru and a round trip to Lake Coleridge. Short trip and very tiring but awesome.

So where is the other half of the translation? Who? Why? The dragon was going to take the well formed road but I said we had Toby with us so we took the rough track instead. He doesn't get to do his thing often. In front of us was someone in a hire campervan trying to take the rough track towards us. Fools. They realised only a few metres in but it looked liked even backing out the little bit they did was still a problem! Learnign the hard way. At least, I hope they learned...
Yesterday Taybeedragon and I were at Mt Cook. We planned to stay there two nights but there was a howling gale up there, and it was raining. And cloudy. The Hooker Valley was closed with a big gate across the bridge. Many other tracks were outright dodgy. Aorangi had been removed for cleaning and they say it will be a couple of days before it is dried out thoroughly enough to be returned. We can't wait that long. So at the end of one day we had done all the walking we could do and left, forfeiting both night's accommodation. We spent the night in Tekapo instead and cached around here. So I have at last been to Mt Cook but still have yet to see Aorangi.
Today it is sunny, light winds. It's still a howling gale at the top of roto Pukaki though.

On our way to cycle the A2O, collecting Geotour caches on the way. I made the find and sign while Ms M went down to the lake edge to test the water temperature. TFTC
A quick find while heading south with SJT_NZ for some cycle trails, thanks Bitsprayer and MoE for another of the PWGT's sorted.
A quick find with Tregearp on our way to Central Otago. All in good order, thanks for the cache.
#20422. Steady rain we didn't find many caches in Tekapo; just this one on the way in and one on the way out. The fence proved easy to cross (knee height) and the cache didn't take too long to find. The large pine trees kept most of the rain off as we signed the log. TFTC.
I had planned to spend a little time in Tekapo on our journey south to Wanaka, but the persistent rain put a stop to that plan and this and another drive by were the only caches found in Tekapo.
We decided to park on the road and hurdle the fence (it was an easily hurdlable fence ) to get to GZ. The big pine trees offered some shelter from the rain and despite overshooting the optimal parking spot, it was a short walk and quick find.
Despite the gray skies, the lake still looked gorgeously turquoise. TFTC.

Convenient step for me to access the cache. Nice camo bag. Will have to come back to do more exploring round here. Only over for a mini-break. TFTC.

2547. Mrs ToT found this last night on a walk from the nearby camp. But no open so a quick return this morning. TFTC!!!
Another on the Geotour not aiming for them but prehaps I should look and see where more are. Recorded the code on this one.
First find today. Of course we had to target the geotour one just up the road. Quick find here, TFTC Bitsprayer.
Day 5 of a South Island road trip for RG1972 and I and today it is Lake Tekapo to Moeraki. A bit of driving then, and we need to leave time for side trips to the Cathedral cliffs and for a bit of exploring in Oamaru.
A pretty sweet day. There are hundreds of caches on our travels today, but we just drove past the majority. Nice views of the lakes on the left, and it’s the first time either of us have driven this road before and the towns like Kurow, although we have been through the towns that bookend the road many other times, from other directions. All caches found in good nick, and if they needed a bit of extra RITR paper they got it. TFTC all COs.

First find of the day & RNZ is targeting geotour caches when they are close by.
Day 5 of our South Island road trip and today is Lake Tekapo to Moeraki, with mini deviations along the way to the Clay Cliffs, Elephant Rocks & Oamaru.
A very cool day exploring & I've never driven the road from Omarama to Oamaru., so a win win!

On a trip with Ruru_NZ to gather the tour caches needed or in my case not done yet. Should be able to knock them off on this trip.
Interesting views across the lake from here.

Day 3 - Labour weekend extended road trip with Kiwicampnut - relocated to stay south of the ditch.
We managed to drive to within 10m of the cache.
Last day of school holidays, so although the roads are busy, the places to stop, including here, are not.
Have had some drizzle this morning, and lots of rainbows, but didn't get wet here.
Thanks for the cache Bitsprayer
