Long weekend away in Taup, so my partner could do the Taup marathon. Return journey home today. Wow what an incredible day. Grabbed this one after a bit of a search. Fantastic spot

11-Jul-24
Travelling from Rotorua to Masterton today, and travelling in convoy with Team Welsh for this section of the journey. We had been behind a slow truck all along Desert Road, and had finally overtaken it at the nearby passing lane when Mark pointed out that there was an unfound trad in this layby. Nothing for it but to pull in and make the find. No problem finding the Pole with a View (a great view of snow covered mountains today) but the cache was minus it's logsheet. We recognised this as a typical Gorby hide, so we added a new logsheet from the car. Thanks.

10-Jul-24
Stunning day to be travelling along the Desert Road and probably the warmest I have ever experienced, even over some summer days. Soon located the typical hide of this CO but the log book was not to be seen. Others have said it was very wet so may of disintegrated and disappeared into the abyss. KC had some waterproof logs so we replaced it with that. Hope this is all ok. TFTC

07-Jul-24
Making our way back to Rotorua on this cold night stopping off for a bit of night photography, Kiwi Does Stuff and ourselves have done a day run from Rotorua to Ohakune and beyond to grab some caches and score some awesome views. Made our way to GZ circling this pole we found the cache but sadly the log paper had fallen to the bottom far out of reach, visible by eye but not possible to retract. TFTC.

Thanks for hiding this cache Gorbygorbachov I appreciate it. It's a bit cold today but not cold enough to put me off geocaching Today is day twelve of our Coromandel trip. We will stay in Taihape tonight before moving on to Greytown. So far we have stayed in Wellington, Taupo, Cambridge, Whitianga,Tairua and Paeroa.

A quick overnight road trip to Wellington with a strong wind warning and plenty of rain made this a quick stop at the pole with no view. Log signed and quickly retreated back to the dryness of the Geomobile and cached on down the highway. Thanks for the brief stop and smiley.

**S 39 18.577 E 175 44.231**#14,832. Park and grab in the Waiouru Military Area. Fortunately, the GZ was relatively quiet at the time of our visit. For some reason, we still had the old cache listing information that showed a different size (regular) and additional hints. Naturally no luck with searching a regular sized cache, although we did find a number of likely hiding places for one. Expanded the area and fortunately noticed something interesting about 4 metres away. Ah, there it was. The micro cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.*Thanks for the geocache placement, and for bringing us to this site, and **.T h a n k s. .f o r. .t h e. .c a c h e.**.M a u r u u r u. .k o e. .n u i. .a t u. .h o k i. .t e. .k e t e r o k i.*

Im back in New Zealand for the first time in four and a half years. Im here for just over three weeks visiting the family. Nice to see a number of new caches about, in places that I have found caches before. Road trip today to head down the island to visit more family. I dont have any time constraints so can stop for a cache or two on the way. A fab day to drive through the desert road. Stopped here and there were a few muggles about but it didn't take long to find this simple but effective hide. Tftc

01-Nov-23
We also stopped here on our tour of the North Island. After enjoying the beautiful landscape, we also had time to find a few caches. Many thanks to all the owners for the caches and for showing us new and interesting places.

All good to go people!

26-Mar-23
I was down at Whakapapa this weekend for a variety of things. To do cache maintenance, place a few caches, obviously to do some caching and see my cousin in Waiouru. I have replaced the cache (it had gone missing including the towel) with something smaller and much more cunning! Cmon... who the heck steals a wet towel! Anyway, all good to go here now.

No luck with this one in the rain Sad

Beautiful rainy day out with FMZ with a goal to get to Turoa, weather dependent. A few stops nearby to take photos and then this cache. Quick and easy find. Thanks Gorby!

08-Sep-22
Down near Ruapehu, replacing some caches, placing a new one, checked on this too and no worries here, all good. The hole the cache used to be in has filled in, but people have moved it very slightly under the metal, which is all good.

I have wrapped a towel around the cache, but not sure why I did exactly, but it felt like a good idea at the time.

School Holidays so time for a tiki tour and some caching. Heading down to an event in Sanson, Winter Warmer IX. Stayed the night in Turangi and picking up some local aches. This was a quick stop which surprised us because we previously couldn’t find this cache. Was it really there last time? Well I recently got new glasses so many that’s the difference. Thanks for the smiley.

One of my sons in Whangarei is going on an OE. He sold his car to his brother Tim in Dunedin and fortunately for me Tim wanted me to drive the car down. Of course I jumped at the idea of a geocaching roadie. I've had lots of puzzles solved for such a long time so geoarts were the main target of the trip.

In Palmy area I wanted the shield series and the 20/20 geoart. Then Wairarapa was stickman (which we ran out of time for), the new M geoart and some archived skindo challenges. Wellington was finishing off the kiwi geoart. Nelson I had a few challenges I wanted before heading to Christchurch. It was family time there and perhaps the smile series but time ran out again. Off to Dunedin for the airplane geoart. Then it was time to fly home to say goodbye to my son heading to Denmark.

It was great to have my friend Supernanny come along on the trip for company. We had a wonderful trip and fantastic weather apart from one afternoon. Now it's time to start writing the massive backlog of logs. It might take a while.

We both wanted this cache as we knew the CO. I'd missed this last time as a big truck stopped right at gz. I'd tried walking over looking like a tourist photographing the mountain but the truckie was watching me carefully. All clear today. Icy tables nearby and no mountain to be seen. Luckily the cache wasn't hiding too. Thanks Mike Smile

Off on a long road trip with Lis from Whangarei for her to get a solved puzzle series or three.
She kindly agreed to stop here and this was an easy find as it was exposed.
Covered it with some tussock grass.
Thanks Gorby!
Finally making a start on your caches down here!

Last one of a few caches located today before heading home from Turangi to Kāpiti after a great holiday further north. We’d looked for this on a couple of previous occasions (DNF’d it on 31.12.21) and didn’t have high hopes of finding it today. It took a few minutes before we came across it. Why it had been so difficult previously I do not know. It really isn’t that tricky a hide! #4734. TFTC.

Tuesday - 25/01/2022 #3,897

On a week long trip up and down the middle part of the North Island. Same weekend as the Mega event in Auckland (but that's not where I ended up). Targeting a few specific caches, and a few others. This is one of them.

A few more caches along the deseret road that I've been wanting to get for some time but whenever I passed by it was either the middle of the night or I just wanted to get home. Today, I planned my trip to be here with enough time and at the right time. Sadly the weather wasn't great so no views to be had.

TFTC

Stopped off on my way home from the Mega in Auckland. Thanks Gorbygorbachov for the cache.

It's my Mega weekend road trip! This is day one, on the road to Auckland. Will expand on my logs, post photos, qualifying caches for challenges, etc. When I get home. TFTC

We found several caches today en route from Taihape to Taupo but, sadly, this wasn’t one of them. Spent several minutes searching, to no avail. My sister found it last month and undoubtedly it’s there, but it stayed hidden from us today! Hopefully we’ll have the opportunity to tackle this one again before long!

27-Dec-21
After the marathon lockdown of Auckland I took my opportunity to drive from Auckland to Paraparaumu for a family Christmas., Today, on the long drive back I needed a break from driving and decided to do a little caching in an area I don't get to too often, so stopped here. wasn't sure of the hint, but finally spotted the cache and made the find. All in good order here. TFTC!

Find number 7770. My daughter is doing the Te Araroa trail And I have been a support person for a few days as she paddled the Whanganui [I was the other in the canoe] and cycled from Pipiriki to Whanganui. A 7pm crossing of the river at Koitiata where I met her and we camped for the night. An early start as she set off to walk to Bulls and I cached my way back to Hamilton. Doing just specific caches.
A car was parked at GZ when I arrived but thankfully soon left. Scooted over and grabbed the cache. Thank you for the placement.

22-Dec-21
We pulled over to make a coffee in the motorhome and I thought I would just give the app a quick look. Lo and behold a cache not 30 metres away. How could we not seize it. TFTC

Traveling from Wellington back to the Waikato at the end of a wonderful two week holiday with heaps of geocaching and hiking. Fabulous views today - totally misted over on our way down, but loved the scenery today. This was meant to be quick, but I was standing saying to my muggle hubbie - it's meant to be right here, so he pointed out that it was actually right there! Duh! TFTC Smile

13-Oct-21
Wending my way from Taupo to Feilding today. Collecting a few caches along the Desert Road before the weather turns pear shaped.
A squall was coming through as I stopped here. 14deg when I left Turangi. It’s now 2 Thanks for a quick park and grab.

14-Sep-21
A quick find.
Our trip starts again after being curtailed on day 2 when we went into lockdown (that was an 800+ km day to get back to our respective homes). The trip with LNM1961 (logs signed either with our own names or ‘LE’) continues. We are travelling around the Rua area of the PWGT to collect all of these caches, plus some in the Tahi area. However, we aren’t just focussing on them. We are targeting others - oldies, ones that help us qualify for challenges, ones out of the way (especially on the Desert Road), as well as having fun, exploring NZ and seeing the countryside. TFTC

We are delivering grandson back to Palmerston north today. We has planned to stop for this cache as a distraction. But no, we had to stop for a carsick break 5 km down the road. Well I was still going to stop here! We left tauranga in a balmy 20 degrees. It's now close to sleet falling out of the sky here. Brrr. Thanks for the placement Gorby

12-Jul-21
Was looking out for an upright pole but a lying one is good too. Headed around the rear and cussed the scattering of junk until I realised it was the cache! Put it all back together after signing the log and tipped out the frozen water block from the smaller, inner cache. Replaced as per hint, and put a largish stone on top to hide a little better (I hope). Cheers

Left Taihape later than I'd hoped thanks to a certain thing taking Extra time and I paid the penalty with a reduced itinerary. Caching still happened though.

The weekend is here and for a change I've got a four-dayer planned with a trip across from Taupo to Napier to have a couple of nights in Havelock North and local area, followed by a trip back across the Napier-Taihape Road to stay at our daughters for a day before watching the football on Monday and then Coming Home, he's coming home, capperz is coming home (football didn't as it turned out! Well done to Italy.
A few nice caches found, not huge numbers so quality rather than quantity. A few more of the PWGT caches as well as some others here and there, thanks to all COs.

Day two of my road trip from Nelson to Auckland. Today I'm driving from Paraparaumu to my hotel in Auckland Central. Time to find a few caches along the way. Weather was a bit dodgy to start with but gradually improved as I headed north. I drove past this on my last road trip and forgot to stop. Today I remembered. Pulled over and found the cache without any issues. TFTC, Biggles.

We were heading back to Auckland after a few days picking up as many PWGT2 caches as we could and were suffering from an overdose of multis so picking up this traditional was just the medicine we needed. We had started to think they didn't exist anymore after the abundance of multis in PWGT2.
There were a couple of men in the carpark quite close to GZ who from the sound of their conversation appeared to have coincidentally come across each other so were having a bit of a catch up.
Fortunately they had their back to GZ and were too deep in conversation to even notice we were there so we stealthily crept in and searched for the cache behind their backs.
We soon found the rabbit hole and the very nicely placed cache but also found a very strong smell coming from somewhere nearby. It seemed that something had died and we hoped it wasn't the rabbit but weren't keen to investigate further.
Once the logbook had been signed and the cache returned to its hiding spot we returned to the car, still in stealth mode, although the men were still so deep in conversation it wasn't necessary. Good practice though.
Thanks Gorby for another great cache on the Desert Road.

16-Mar-21
#19618. Nice place to pull over for a break heading south. Found after a short search. TFTC.

16-Mar-21
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on our way south to Kimbolton in the Manawatu.
This was a good spot to stop and swap drivers, and find a cache, of course. It was certainly a bit chilly here, so we were keen for a quick find, but more haste and less speed. The cache was found just a few cms from where we originally searched, just on the wrong side.
Not much of a view today, the view was much better on our way north. TFTC.
