Perfect day for a drive along the Western Explorer and climbing Mt Donaldson, a pleasant 17 degrees. Was a bit grey to begin with but cleared up and then clouded over again for the drive home. We thought we would see way more vehicles on the drive but we didnt. So peaceful and it made for an enjoyable day out.Another spot that would be great for camping quick find TFTc Angus
Stopped here to admire the views and find the cache. Having started at Strahan today, we've decided to drive for 10 km then look for the next cache. That should get us to Stanley by mid afternoon.TFTC
On a maintenance trip from home, along the north coast and then down the west coast to Corinna, this one was found to be in good condition, but needed a new log, so he now has a new waterproof log.
We momentarily considered camping here... stunning views but oh the wind! Almost blew me over. After a very thorough search and finding a small cairn that proved fruitless, we dropped a replacement to help the CO out, this is such a beautiful drive but I imagine it's not a simple jump in the car to do some maintenance type cache. Cache now blends right into the cairn.
Unfortunately this was not to be for us today. We found where we believed GZ to be but no luck. Hopefully this was a case of cache blindness and hasn't gone missing. Thanks Angus88
After staying at Arthur River we made the trip down this road enjoying the views and area, also giving the youngest team member time to practice his learners driver skills, and enjoying an area we may not of driven otherwise, TFTC and the fun, the views here were amazing
Lookout Archie, theres a car coming stop peeing ! Show some decorum. Anyway TFTC. Second trip ever down the Western Explorer. We have a trail set up for 14 caches from the Temma turnoff to Corinna. Took from 11am till 3pm with a lunch stop with Rosie (No.. Saw one service vehicle only on the whole route amongst the potholes.
A good spot to.pull over for another cuppa.
Good views of the Norfolk Range.
An easy find here with cache in good nick.
Many tftc...Angus88...much appreciated...cheers ST.

3 days off from work, and Geo Kid O joined me on a journey to Stanley and then down along the western explorer road towards Corinna. We have a great time finding a number of caches and driving a road I had not travelled on before.
The Western Explorer road was closed for a while and recently had been reopened with a new bridge near Balfour. Some very interesting sights along the way, with part of the road feeling more like a forest track, and other parts felt like a place where no one else has gone in the past, other than on the road. The open button grass plains were amazing along with the mountain views.
We stayed in Stanely, and the caches in and around Stanely were very good, including one walk to the top of the Nut. Gee that is a steep 400 metre walk.
Thank you for the cache which was part of our journey

Spotted the hide from the car. Although exposed to the wind, this place would be amazing to camp at with the incredible vista on a clear day. TFTC!

Arrived at this one at 4.34pm and heard a car approaching from Corinna way. Knew the ute and van were hiding me from the road so didn't attempt to hide what I was doing which was signing the log. But that car turned in to the gravel area near GZ and out hopped two women. Fortunately they didn't even notice me in plain sight and just went to the front of their car and looked out at the view.
Lucky I guess. Thanks.

Took a short three day holiday to pick up some cache trails around the NW area.
A dawn pack up from our campsite at Stanley and off to get started, the day was just as spectacular as the one before so with good weather and quiet roads being a weekday we had a fantastic run. TFTC
Great spot to pull up for some pictures (cache was a bonus). The birds were singing like crazy down in the trees, so we stopped to listen for a minute.

With only a few days left travelling new destinations around Tasmania, it is with sadness that we have left the beautiful Corinna today.
I saved these caches offline in case we had time or needed some distraction from driving on the way to Arthur River. This was a perfect place to admire the view and space to park our van.
Thank you for highlighting this area with your cache.

This cache was collected in an attempt to gain 1000 caches in 2020. Today we completed 50 caches, leaving another 50 to be found on new years eve. We always enjoy visiting the West Coast of Tasmania, and with the sun shining all day, we had a pleasant drive.
Thank you for placing this cache.

Today we left Stanley with gooseandegg and Tassie Trekkers for a caching run down the road to nowhere onto Corinna, Savage River, Waratah and anywhere in between. We appreciated the detailed hints on the Western Wilderness Westies geocaches. We left Stanley and cached for 12 hours and had a thoroughly wonderful day out, despite the rain. The rain cleared by the time we got to Corinna. Thanks for placing the series. TFTC
We left Stanley at around 7am in convoy with whitewebbs and Tassie Trekkers, loaded up with lunch, snacks and plenty of drinks, to travel the Western Explorer Road down to Corinna then back north through Savage River and Waratah arriving for dinner in Somerset just over 12 hours later. The weather was clear when we left but soon turned a bit dreary as we headed south, with showers persisting on and off almost until we reached Corinna for our lunch stop.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day out and we found all the caches we looked for, although some caused us a bit of grief.
Thanks Angus88 for placing the series, providing us an excuse to visit this wonderful area again.

Back for a second attempt at this cache as on my previous occasion it had obviously been missing. Today the replacement cache was a quick find.

ARCHIE was muggled within 12 hours of placement. This was discovered by Icybeetas and, luckily, 2y'Tassies were there a day or two later and they were kind enough to replace him for me. Thank you 2y'sTassies for doing that and for the new co-ordinates.

ARCHIE has been replaced with gratitude to 2y'sTassies for their assistance. The CO is waiting for new co-ordinates but they will be within three metres of the original co-ordinates so I am enabling ARCHIE as a 3m 'error' makes him very viable. ARCHIE still involves a cairn. Welcome back ARCHIE.
Given the predicted weather conditions and a recent report that the Western Explorer road had just been graded, we decided to head west today to look for caches in the new www. series. It was a superb day - clear sky, warm and a light to moderate breeze. For a gravel road, the Western Explorer was in good condition except for the last three or so kilometres near Corinna where the grading was yet to be completed. The Western Explorer was certainly in much better condition that the road from Corinna to Savage River. We left home at 7:30am and got back at about 9:00pm, a long but very enjoyable day where we managed to find 38 caches but there was one that we could not find.
When we arrived at this location, the site of the published coordinates had been badly damaged by grader abuse - the grader had been parked there probably between when the cache was placed and the when the DNF was logged. However, it was odd that despite searching the area, there was no sign of broken plastic. At the request of the CO we replaced the cache but in a slightly elevated position to avoid any likelihood of further similar mishap. Full details of the relocated cache are being sent to the CO to update the listing but the new obvious hide is a cairn and is only about 3m from the previous published coordinates. As our log was the first in the book, we will claim {FTF} at 14:50Thanks Angus88 for this cache and the series in this formerly cache sparse area of the state.

Geocacher Icybeetas reported this cache missing. He had photo of GZ. Has obviously but mysteriously been muggled within 28 hours of placement. Will be replaced before Christmas 2020.
