Happy to find this one, windy as but not too cold...a high point of our journey, thanks from a couple of kiwis caching in Tasmania
Found with stairman1. We are just about getting blown away today. Ive never experienced such cold winds. Being from Queensland has made me soft. Took us a while to find the cache but we did. My hands are nearly too cold to log this cache. . TFTC
Well that took a bit. Probably a bit more than a 2 difficulty. Freezing cold and blowing. We climbed to the right spot and found a nice area out of the wind. A bit of a search here and we got lucky.Tftc
Thx to a persistent daughter was able to find this tricky cache. A micro cache amongst such large boulders?
#770. Wow, that couldve been a tricky one but luckily looked in the right spot to make the find! Lovely views. Found with meals 5. TFTC!
DNFd this one some time ago when it was missing! Still a needle in a haystack.. was looking in the correct area but in the bigger rocks. Luckily a previous finder was with us and just happened to look down and the container was sitting there in view! The log book was saturated and no one would be able to sign it. We replaced the log book with waterproof paper and signed it. Replaced where we found it and placed a rock over it!TFTC
Nice quick find with great coords. Man is it windy dont loose the logsheet!!! SL at 12:05pm. TFTC.
Returned after a year, but the log is very wet. Sorry we also don't have any paper with us to replace it.
After recently retiring, we made a 10 day trip to Tassie, this time bringing our car and the MIL. Just meandering around not particularly looking for caches, just taking the opportunity at the places we stop for breaks etc. After struggling to maintain an upright position while attempting to walk in the unbelievably strong and am freezing wind, was disappointed not to be able to sign due to the dampness.
Had to fight the wind to get here but made it eventually. Log was too wet to sign. Tftc
Found quickly, definitely one of my more memorable caches came here from Queensland to chase snow but none here currently, views were still epic though! TFTC
28 June 2024 12:56pmAs if just being up here and getting a view wasnt awesome enough, finding this micro in late june was just unbelievable. Geocaching in Tasmania with catnap777 on our honeymoon. [:X] [:X] And it doesn't get better than this. We were going to take on the SSF series today but cat' and I figured we had earned a break. Instead we took on the southern end of the Rokeby Hills Bushland Reserve. We picked up all the caches of note there before traipsing up Mt Wellington. We did the older summit caches for cat' (the ones I got on my first visit) and then the adlab and bonus cache together, and this one before walking down to the old "Organ Pipes" cache down ZigZag track. Back down in Hobart, we capped off an unbelievable day by supping on oysters and absinthe at a festival market on Constitution Dock. TFTC ShannonPC. .....and thankyou Tasmania for an awesome honeymoon. [:X] [:X]
28 June 2024 12:52 Another awesome view on this gorgeous Mountain. Thank you ShannonPC, your cache was found in good condition. Took the opportunity to drive up the Mountain today as the weather was favourable. Stayed up here for a few hours grabbing caches that dalerious already had from a previous visit. It was a week that we will remember for the rest of our lives, and can't wait to get back to this magical State that is Tasmania
Day five of my first trip to Tasmania. I was brought down here for a 2-day intensive business retreat, which was huge, but it is all finished now. And of course, I have an extra couple of days now to go geocaching. I have all of today to myself with the hire car, so it's all dedicated to heading up this Mount Wellington that literally everyone I spoke to says is a must-do. Hard to argue with that level of recommendation! After a non-early start and a breakfast stroll through Salamanca, I throw some extra clothes in the car, drive up the mountain, stop lots and hang out at the summit. And then after some tough decisions, I decide to go for a walk halfway out the Zig Zag track and see some organ pipes. Mount Wellington is giving me a very real and very strong sense that I could spend many hours wearing out a lot of hiking boot soles, so I can't resist the temptation for a little walk and explore.Down the track a little, I see this icon and figure I'll investigate. I'm careful of disrupting the landscape where there is no track, but will sort it out as I get closer. Starting down the track feels quite special. The tower and this bit of the track feature somewhat in the Geoguessr community, and it's a good furphy, leading most folks to think the image is taken in the northern hemisphere. Testament to how different to the rest of Australia this place looks!Getting close, it's clear I can skip along the top of rocks towards the tor pile at the co-ordinates and there's hardly anybody around to notice; perfect. Arriving at the right area, I seek some cover behind the rocks from the biting breeze to narrow down where to look. It seems up is the answer. So I clamber up and begin looking around. A couple of minutes go by of me poking about and wondering how many places a micro could be hiding.Instead, I pause and scroll back through logs. Sometimes a little nugget of a hint that only makes sense in context appears. And just that happened here. It involved me moving a few metres from where the co-ordinates had me today but then, a relatively quick find. It's small, but not impossible to find once in the right area.Happily, I signed the logbook at 13:45 and replaced all back as found after a few photos. Even more happily I got down out of the worst of the wind and could continue the walk, movement and warmth! Thanks for this smiley today, ShannonPC
We are on a 2 week holiday from Victoria and arrived here on the Spirit of Tasmania. We had a perfect day up on the mount, no fog, no rain or wind, making the views spectacular. Log was a bit full and worse for wear, I was able to replace with a new one. TFTC
Took a little bit to find. Mostly because it was extremely awkward to go off the track in front of hundreds of watching eyes. Good to sign it off though. Thanks ShannonPC
S_38 found it remarkably quickly. I recommend going in from the sign and follow a reasonably formed path and then the pipeline for a bit to minimise impact on the alpine vegetation. This vegetation is very slow growing. Ideally, staying on paths is best practice.
Used a photo from previous log to get to correct elevation and then it was a straightforward hide TFTC
After reading a few logs I decided not to spend too much time looking for this cache as it was very cold on the mountain today. I put the timer on for 10 minutes and started searching from the point where a recent photo had been posted I found it with 5 minutes and 40 seconds still in the clock. Woohoo. TFTC
TFTC, found with fnsaws definitely needs a higher difficulty rating maybe a 2.5
Took a while with 4 of us. Difficulty is a bit low with all the possible hiding spots. Found with chonknlexi, TFTC
On secondment to Melbourne, Australia, combined with short holidays here and there. Day 34/74, Saturday. My mini-holiday to Tasmania! Just four days but better than nothing. Today I woke up at my accommodation in Port Arthur and then I spent the day driving and walking here and there. For the night I drove to Hobart. I visited places I will remember forever - such as the Remarkable Cave in the Tasman National Park and Mount Wellington area. I also visited some caches that were important for me because of some challenge caches, etc. I had so much fun today! Wow, I should fill in a lottery coupon... There were like million possible places, I looked from one random place and the cache was there. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Vaasa, Finland! #2786 This is my day 264, and the longest physical cache find streak so far. I want to see how far I go. I am on a family vacation in Australia, and Tasmania road trip is our main highlight. The trip on the island is coming to the end. Today, we visited Mount Wellington before heading to the airport. It was indeed very cold and windy up there. Found this micro on the top. Nice view!Thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan @ February 23, 2024 13:59
Did not find. I looked everywhere for a good half an hour but no suspicious rocks or mischievous cracks.
Second quick cache on a cruise day on shore. Not many about on the track so easy in and out with 2 TBs joining for the miles T4TC
After finishing off the AdLab and discovering that we couldnt get to the final we made our way to this GZ. Hip hoppiting about the place and I noticed mini munchkin casually sitting on a rock with bit of a smirk on her face. Hmmm!? She looks a bit too cheeky just sitting there. Have you found it?. More cheeky grins and a giggle She had the cache and was just watching me jump about the rocks looking for the cache, for fun. Thanks for the cache ShannonPC
Found it with DTM and family/friends. Harder to find than we thought. Great to find!!
We came for the sunset, unfortunately the Mountain was in fog and clouds when we arrived. At least we found the geocache.TFTC
Thanks to this cache, I visited some very nice spots and beautiful places in Tassie and I enjoyed another perfect day on my holidays in Australia. It was little big rainy, too foggy and bit chilly.
Pretty walk to the top with awesome views along the way and at the top of the mountain on a clear day. Temperatures were not too bad either. TFTC
7/12/23 Cache #26After looking at the amazing views I broke apart from my family to search for the cache. Coordinates were pretty accurate and I surprisingly found it pretty easily. I also liked how the view was different to the main attractionTftc ShannonPC!
Searched for a while and did some clbing but no luck. I'm thinking my GPS might have been a bit off.
Great little diversion away from the crowds to enjoy a diferent viewpoint and grab another smiley. TFTC
A great little spot away from the muggle, rich territory of some of the other caches up here! Spectacular weather up here today for some finding.
Took us awhile to find this tricky little one. But the kids loved the rock climbing. TFTC ShannonPC
No snow to hamper our search today, so we eventually came up with the goods, well shashabear9 did anyway. TFTC
Eviloffspring and I tried to do this one last time she came for a visit but was covered in snow . Second time round we found it and even did a happy dance to celebrate
Stunning views from Mt Wellington overlooking Hobart and surroundings. Chilly this morning. Worked our way to GZ and scaled to the hiding place of the cache. Signed the log and took in another look at the dolerite formations to the left. We scaled down to get out of the chilly wind to enjoy some lunch. Great views. TFTC
