Short Trip Away Day #2 [24/11] of 3Day two of my holidays (and day #2 of 3 for my trip away) saw me having a slow start. I ate Bfast and then headed off to catch up with some non-geocaching and ex-geocaching friends at the Woden church. Along the way I stopped off quickly to find the final cache in the Under Athllon cache in the series which was the second cache of the three. After church and the catch up with my friends, I headed over to the arboretum for the lunchtime Geo-event. It was a great event with all talk Geo and yummy snag sandwiches. Next I headed down the hill to the lake to find some of the newer caches that has popped up recently, including a very unique AL. I then went up Black Mountain to find a couple of ALs and a bonus cache. From there I started making my way back to the motel but not before finding two more cache which has been on the to-find-list for far too long. I also quickly stopped off to get some dinner. TB visit. Some caches were signed as JM. A big thanks to the CO for adding this cache to game for the Geocaching community to enjoy. TFTE & TFTCs!
Once the sun had broken through and things had warmed up a bit we headed off to the Botanic Gardens a place we had visited many years ago. The Rainforest Walk Mrs SKI remembered, and it is just like some areas close to where we live, The banksias were out and well worth a look. Some in flower we have in our garden at home! You can't be in this area without a visit to Black Mountain, but it is looking quite sad and run down. Most of the viewing areas are now obscured and the Tower is closed. Then it was time to head to the museum, and finally pout for a big tea down south, that we probably should have passed on, but was still enjoyable.Of course we collected a few caches on the way, quite a variety.Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache DARKSIDEDAN.**SKI Pair****
A bit of a climb down in the dark. Quickly found due to the good hint. I found your D2.0/T2.0 Small Mystery called AL Bonus Cache - Tourist Traps of Canberra on 1 April 2024. It was find #19168 for me. Thank you DARKSIDEDAN for placing this cache for our enjoyment in the wonderful state of Australian Capital Territory.
Something special or unusual goes here:This old tourist trap would be so much better if it got opened up again. Cache took us a little time to find. The Generic Bit:The Capital Geobash Adventure 2024. Day 10: last full day in Canberra Yet again today myself, Anymules and Muff1 set out to try and find a few more caches. We concentrated on cleaning up a few caches around the Mega site and previously solved puzzles.. We also managed a few other caches whilst passing so close. ***Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Logs prepared and published through GSAK.
Another fantastic day here in Canberra, the locals have certainly turned the wonderful weather for the event, maybe they had a chat with the Lord Above. We did not find many caches today but they certainly are quality caches. We signed a couple of challenge caches that we do not qualify for but found many others that we do qualify for and signed. The event last night was fantastic with loads of people to chat with. SL TFTC
Caching from WA west coast to ACT for 2 megas. TFTC. A lovely AL that has been sitting on my list for ages. Great to also get the bonus.

Cache found after a bit of a hunt. The trip bit.Easter geocaching festival of twenty twenty four. This time it is the turn of Oz Mega GeoBash MEGA event in the nation's capital. It is time for a road trip across country to Canberra in the Sporty Pajero Sports. Freddo and Gridge98 traveling from Adelaide via a strange inland route that takes in scenic rural locations, dusty roads, punctured tyres, overheating batteries, various tools of the trade, special campgrounds, and lots scope for many many geocaching finds. Along the way we saw running emus, jumping kangaroos, wandering deer, dead foxes, herds of wooly sheep and stray steers.Arriving in Canberra we met our colleagues e.gregory1, featherwaite, team walron, courtney rose, davidwazza, e_smilie, and georode, signing as ABP, plus a huge group of other like minded excited mega geocachers attending event after event, and more events.Day one. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. Found on our journey over the week here. This weekend was mega weekend and we headed over with Courtneyrose_ Freddo, Team Waldron, e.gregory1, Davidwazza and Featherwaite as part of our team called: ABP (Alphabet People), the log books were either signed with the name, ABP or our individual caching names.A great weekend away in the capital and a very well organised mega, it was nice to be back in the ACT caching once again over easter with great weather. Thanks for the cache
In Canberra for the Easter GeoBash Mega. Our team cosisted of Team Waldron, Featherwaite, E.Gregory1, Freddo, Gridgre98, DavidWazza, CourtneyRose. Logs were signed as ABP.We travelled far and wide had a great time. Thanks to the organising committee and all the cache owners.TFTC
Found during the Mega event in Canberra over the Easter long weekend. Our team comprised courtneyrose_, Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, Freddo, gridge98 and Team Waldron, signing the logs as ABP to save time and space in the logbooks , or with our individual caching names. Enjoyed a great weekend away finding a rewarding range of cache types, d/t combinations, cache hides and retrievals. Thanks for the Adventure Lab and Bonus cache DARKSIDEDAN!
Found while attending the Mega event in Canberra over Easter.Today I teamed up with FeatherWaite, Team Waldron, gridge98, Freddo and Davidwazza. Logs were signed ABP to save time and space on the logsheets. It was a productive day, focusing mainly on caches of interest, with an emphasis on the Virtual caches and a couple of older ones. The weather was fine and quite warm, in contrast to some of the other times Ive been in Canberra over Easter. Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for the Adventure Lab and bonus cache.
Stay at Canberra for Mega and Beautiful places can be found everywhere. As long as I enjoy myself, I don't care what the weather is like. Here's one to find today.Thank you for placing the cache ?? DARKSIDEDAN.
Today I had a plan on grabbing a variety of caches and all with a varying degree of types and difficulties. There is a great number of caches with special attributes and d/t's around town. For me it was an early start and I first took off to grab a cache and a virtual after I had fueled up at the local servo. I then raced off to grab a few more before I had to meet up with my caching buddy of the day Grannysmith. We had a huge day and a lot of laughs, there were few stories to catch up on and some great caches.Logs were signed and caches replaced as found. Thanks for the hides.
Full time Nomads, travelling around Australia since 2014. Headed out for a big day in Canberra! 2 events and lots of walking around and around the Botanic Gardens then doing laps of Duntroon. TFTC DARKSIDEDAN
Caching on Black mountain after the Mob event.Caching with and signing as the group '6for QLD' + Chamad and having a great day.TFTAd lab DARKSIDEDAN
TFTC smile 19787 out and about on sunny day in Canberra with so much to do signing as 5 for Qld what a great team we make and lots of laughter and fun Thank you DARKSIDEDAN for placing this cache for our enjoyment
The numbers for this cache were sitting on the map just waiting for us to get back to Canberra with goingplaces2. It was good to be able to finish this lab cache bonus. Thanks go to DARKSIDEDAN for adding this cache to the game.
Visited the various points for this lab cache on our last visit with ilook4geo and decided to find the bonus cache today. It was quite quickly found after a little scramble and both names were added to the log. Thanks go to DARKSIDEDAN for the lab cache and bonus.
Finished the AL ages ago but never managed to get up here for this pickup. Today I decided to come up after the other BM caches and get this.
Thanks for getting me out and about DARKSIDEDAN
Thanks for getting me out and about DARKSIDEDAN
fitzy_1965 & I needed some caches for our self-imposed challenges so we decided to do a split shift and find some in the morning before work and then on the way home.
Loved this series of AL stops.

29,830. Found with minniek during another Canberra caching run.
We had finished this neat and funny Adventure Lab a while ago, and we thought it was high time to come and find this Adventure Lab bonus cache. It was so tantalising seeing where this corrected icon was ! Today we parked within 30m and wandered DOWN to the cache. Funnily enough we over (under?) shot and had to climb back up to GZ - happily for a nice quick find. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off to the next cache on our list.
Thanks DSD !!

It was great to finally headed up to find this cache today. Spectacular views of Canberra from Ground Zero. Cool adventure lab as well.

Cache 9209 on 4 Sep 2022.
Out and about on a balmy spring day to grab some caches. Did a couple by myself then met up with Fox in Jox for a few more down south. A lovely day to be out caching and getting some exercise.
Finished the AL for this bonus a few weeks ago and today was a perfect day to collect. Parked nearby and carefully made the short distance to GZ. Cache and log are in good shape. The AL was a fun tongue-in-cheek review of some of Canberra’s tourist attractions - nothing to be taken seriously I would think!
Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for the cache and the fun!

Found the locations a while ago, in the final destination place today so picked it up
Can't say this AL is one of my favorites. It was more than frustrating to gather the information, partially because of ambiguity, partially blocked access. Whilst I do appreciate my visit to Old Parliament House (first time inside since coming to Australia 30 years ago), I had to PAF at a few stages. There is restricted access - aka not for you - at two locations.
So I chose a really rainy day to get the last three stages - just to fit in with the theme. Now I am wet and cold, but at least I found the bonus.

Day 3 in Canberra already, still going strong and loving the caches here. Another cracker of a day only makes it more enjoyable!

The blue ropes nearby had us tricked until we checked the hint. An easy find but the log book is completely saturated and black with mould. Photo taken as evidence. Tftc
Was on a mission to find 20 caches today so AL'S were the way to go. Finished the AL, noting PH was blocked so had to get help from CO. I parked car and trotted off, compass going crazy, wasn't long till container found, lid off, log book and bag completely saturated, lucky I had my good ol' pen that writes on everything tft AL and Bonus cache DSD
Found by Mary and David at 20:45. Our last find for the day, and our last day in Canberra for this visit. Almost dark when we arrived at the car park near GZ, and noticed a largish group of young guys and their cars already there, with more arriving. Wondered what they were up to. No problems with the find, though as it is well out of sight in the dark. We've had an amazing week, including a RAAF Reunion (60 years since David started at RAAF Base Point Cook as a Cadet). We've had lovely weather, incredible Adventure Labs, assorted cemeteries, and lots of entertainment and fun. Thanks especially to Dan for shiny things. Can't wait to return again. Home tomorrow to domesticity and chores. Definitely gets a FP, although the log book is very wet and getting a bit mouldy. Our thanks to DARKSIDEDAN.
#999 for 2021.
I completed the rather scathing AL on the poorly maintained tourist traps over the last few days and saved this cache for tonight before watching the fireworks from Black Mountain. I will avoid a similarly scathing review of caches full of water and with wet and mouldy logbooks in the sprit of the season.

A few more cache types collected in the afternoon before and after the evening event on the lake.
Quick find, nice cache spot and interesting AL.
Thank you DARKSIDEDAN for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

Solved the AL yesterday and returned to the area for a quick find this morning after the early morning showers had ceased. TFTC.
Have been enjoying chipping away at this AL over a few months - quite a few interesting spots! Great to be able to finish this off with GLISS! today and grab the bonus. Thanks for the adventure!
Found with Nibletricecakes. We have been solving the waypoints bit by bit. After finishing off at Telstra Tower and receiving the final co-ords for this bonus we were soon at gz. A quick scramble and the container was found. Great views here. TFTC.
With GreyHams it was a great day to be out, a lovely spring day that was bordering on being just a touch too warm with a mask on but still so nice to be out and and an enjoyable day it was too.
International Earthcache Day was our priority, and we got to it eventually with a number of caches and adventure Labs along the way to end on Black Mountain... again!
I actually really like these locations and was a little surprised at the direction of the AL. Perhaps it was supposed to be humour? Any way, I guess they are not for everyone but would suspect anyone could find some positive in these places if they chose to.... I don't understand why they would be highlighted when they are thought to be so bad but didn't dwell on it too much as the locations were visited.
Always good to see a bonus with an Adventure lab and with this one it was nice close parking and was easy enough to get to. Cache was full of water and log is very wet, I'm afraid in my efforts to dry it a little we just ended up wearing the water... sorry GH!

Spent a lovely warm day out with Aquilus1 collecting many caches, including Labs and made an effort to get to an Earthcache for International Earthcache Day.
Saw some dinosaurs, lots of rocks, old radio equipment & remains, heaps of people at Regatta Point, Black Mountain Tower (again!) as well as some great sights in our newest suburb.
I admit I love the apparent #1...I even put my virtual here...but something has to come first!!!
Thanks for placing.

I started this AL back in June and finally completed it today, so three months. I drove and cycled, depending how close the WPs were to my home. I needed to get help for a couple of these. I wasn't tall enough for WP2, but a tall person assisted, and Regatta Point as it is closed at present. The three other WPs gave me no trouble.
Today in the rain I drove to the final WP, found the last WP and this Bonus cache. I tipped water from this cache and the log is wet. Needs a CO visit. I still managed to sign the log though. The tower was almost invisible in the rain. TFTC DARKSIDEDAN.

Took a few months to visit the required WPs and to then finally get the final coordinates. Had been close to GZ only a few nights before but completely forgot to check what else was about.
In the neighbourhood so popped up for a quick find, sign and replace.
Cache a little damp, may soon need a little help. TNLNSL TFTC

Wow, what a cold and windy spot! Rushed out to GZ to make the find, then back to warmth.Been wanting to put a cache very close to here for years - you beat me to it.
Thanks
Thanks
I had completed 3 of 5 legs of the AL a while ago and upon resuming today the opening stage had reset. Unsure of the answer I had to revisit and re-do that answer. Moved on from there and completed the remaining stages. I actually had other caching plans for the last part of the day, but with the bonus cache so near, I decided that it was worth checking out before heading home.
Cache was found in good condition albeit slightly damp after the recent rains. Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for the “enthralling” tour and the bonus cache which was potentially more exciting than the rest. Cheers.

After having completed this interesting Adventure Lab, we had the coordinates for this Bonus Cache. Late in the day we went to look for the cache. Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks DARKSIDEDAY for an interesting Adventure Lab and thanks for the Bonus Cache.
TFTC Quick easy find here today after ticking off the final two locations. Had done the first three ages ago so pleased to finish it off tonight in the rain and clambering down the slope in high heels after work. Thank goodness there was no one around to see the antics.
Grateful thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining so many great caches to entertain me on my journey.

This week consisted of getting away from work early enough to visit a cache, either on my scooter or driving, to try and continue building up my calendar finds days. Some days needed a specific cache type as well. This week was nice weather wise and made for a pleasant afternoon.
Time was short today with a drive towards Adelaide due to start, so I picked another closeish one to try for. I did the Adventure Lab some time ago, but had not returned for the bonus. Today in light rain it was a short scramble down the hill, and a nice find.
Thanks for the cache Darksidedan

After completing the Adventure Lab nothing too tricky with this one although a little bit of water inside the cache. TFTC!
*I helped hide this bonus cache with DSD on the 19th November 2020*
DSD had a good location in mind that was relevant to the AL itself, but with the multitude of caches including puzzles and multi's around the place it took us a bit of tinkering to find a spot that was nearby and free! We found a good spot in the end, that should definitely be free of muggles!
I opted out of logging this cache before I actually finished the AL officially, but that time has finally come! I have slowly been picking up the locations one by one whenever I am driving past / in the area over the past couple months since this was published. The one at the National Exhibition Centre was probably the toughest, but also the funnest! Most AL answers are quick and easy, sometimes not even having to leave the car. But the challenge of finding this answer was enjoyable! As were all the other locations
Thanks DSD for the AL and Bonus! A fun tour with a unique theme which was interesting!

Completed the AL and then a nice easy find of the bonus right where it should be. I quite like the view from this aspect. Thanks, DSD.
#10339 - 2:38:00 PM; Took the run up Black Mountain today to wrap up the AL series and then collected this cache too. A nice series, although it would have been good to be able to do them in any order rather than in sequence. That said, I found some of the commentary amusing. Clearly written by people whom it seems will never be satisfied and who have probably given bum reviews wherebver they have been! Cache was located in its secure hide and log signed to wrap up the series. TFTC DARKSIDEDAN
Found a fair few caches after spending time with family in Canberra. Thanks to all Cache Owners for their contribution to this recreational activity.
A straightforward Adventure Lab experience. I enjoyed visiting all of these familiar locations for the umpteenth time. Quick find at GZ. TFTC

Thought it was a bit hard on some of the so called 'tourist traps of Canberra', which I have enjoyed in the past. However, I did enjoy this AL and the nicely placed bonus. TFTC and the AL DSD.
Found on a great day of cache finding with the youngest member of the Search 4 team. TFTH
Was initially surprised by the negative approach to this lab cache, but then I realised: there's something ironically funny about absurdly negative "Karen" comments about obviously amazing attractions. I also realised that this is somewhat of a social commentary about how everyone in Australia sees Canberra as boring and with nothing to do; but that it's those who actually live here who can truly appreciate how beautiful the city is. It was so good revisiting five of the best locations Canberra has to offer. I completed the AL over a period of a few days; where I had a tonne of fun at each location: this AL made you look a lot harder for answers than most ALs do, which was really rewarding and interesting. Went up to GZ today for a quick find. Nice and easy to get to; and with a spectacular view. TFTC DSD!
Headed out with Rapidlywild tonight to give this one a go after an active weekend it was nice to just sit and watch the world go by while chatting and ticking off the WP's a couple of hiccups along the way but contacted the Co for some help. Seems one place has changed a little and might need to be done in business hours.
Any way not sure why these WP's are boring, have heaps of memories at most of them especially the AIS. Guess people see places differently.
Thanks for the drive around memory lane both old and new DARKSIDEDAN, and thanks for the fun Rapidlywild.

Was sitting at home a bit bored so decided to reach out to FFLL and ask if she wanted to come for a drive with me. We decided to give this a crack as the first WP was on our side of town. We quite enjoyed the journey and the time just chatting away between the WP's. I think the order of this works, although I wasn't familiar with the prior order. We did have some issues with one as the information we required was inside a closed dark building, from what I understand from the CO, you can usually see the information as the required boards are usually left lit up. Unfortunately not at the moment.
No issues at the GZ location, was surprised the CO managed to find a spot here though, being there are quite a few caches around here, nice work. Log signed under the cover of darkness. Back to the car and time to head home.
Thanks for the Adventure Lab DSD, liked revisiting some spots I have been to before. And thanks FFLL for the company and the chats, we must make more time to get some more little adventures in again

The order of the WPs was perfect for us although we didn’t know what it was before - thx for the changes. As we live near Calvary Hospital the order suited us and the location of the bonus cache ideal. I needed to drive my new car for the first time today so this adventure lab was the perfect distance to familiarise myself was the car's basics.
We didn’t mind the places we visited and have enjoyed them all in the past. We were grateful that none of the buildings in question needed to be open to answer the questions. We were stumped on one question initially thinking that the information was inside. We decided to chat with Professor Google and was surprised with the information returned but thinking laterally we entered this data and BINGO! We also struggled to find a four word answer, and once finally found we just couldn’t spell it correctly - perseverance paid off. TFTAL DARKSIDEDAN.

*FTF* with Tankengine. Well the AL was a little negative with its negative comments from negative tourists and its “so boring” journal entries. But the silver lining is a got two caches for the one : ) It did make the back and forth all over town worthwhile. Tftc DARKSIDEDAN!!!
Chooo ooo [FTF] - with dty73! We saw this new AL come out this morning and decided to give it a go! Well, I thought that the locations were fine, indeed I would say some of them are places I always take my interstate/overseas guests too! So, not sure why highlight the negative comments... I think the spots are great! The coordinates were wrong for the bonus cache - they took you to the previous bonus cache! So we ended out going to the wrong spot first. Yet more driving! - Which is the only complaint I have for the AL - why make us drive backward and forward so much? You would have started us at Nichols and taken us to the city in one pass? Thanks for the cache DARKSIDEDAN.
Thanks for the feedback.
The order of the locations was reflected from the 5th worst location to the worst location as voted by visitors to Canberra them self. I did not choose the locations or the order that they were in.
I have now edited the locations so that they are not out of order and there is much less driving. They Adventure Lab now goes from north to south. Also the bonus location it has been changed. I hope the future finders have more fun doing this Adventure Lab.
