I remember well learning of the shocking news of this event. As a nation, we have had far too many of these occurrences. This was my first ever visit to Aramoana and, unfortunately, it was raining which upset my caching plans. Being able to park close to this cache site, I was able to quickly find the treasure and return to my car to take care of the paperwork. Then it was a quick dash to put it back without me getting too wet.
I spent the day in the Port Chalmers area with my local muggle friend. We also went to Aramoana. A quick find, logbook signed and replaced. Tftc
Decided to drive out to Aramoana and tick off a few caches. Parked under the shade of a large nearby tree and walked to GZ. Easy find. TFTC Natalie.
TFTC! First to find with the new logbook took the little trackable with us back to Northland. Found with DS
Nee container in place. 1.5m to right of rock with plaque as facing plaque standing next to seat
Coordinates changed from:S 45 46.722 E 170 42.478Coordinates changed to:S 45 46.723 E 170 42.482Distance from original: 18.0 feet or 5.5 meters.Cache moved as plants were removed
Due to accident I am unable to get to the location to check on the cache until late October.
Found the shreds but not the logbook. Will log as found but feel free to delete.
TFTC, what a dreadful event. Beautiful memorial.
The cache area has recently been weedwacked and the container has been shattered.
Log book and container remains are hidden again but will need replacing

Redco5 and i decided to explore the northern coast of the harbour starting at Port Chalmers.
We decided to drive to this one as the carparking was taken up for the 2 puzzles on the way.
Cheers for the cache.

Found the hint object after a bit of a scramble. Thanks for the info re the Aramoana tragedy. This was a tragic day for NZ and hard to believe in such a beautiful place. RIP. Picked up a TB to continue its travels. TFTC
In the area getting some caches for a challenge. A letterbox was one of my target caches. All good. Thanks
Was out and about with dakotacats and whiskasnz and we stopped off here for dakotacats to unload a couple of TBs she has been holding onto for ages...she only found one in the bottom of her caching bag. At least one has been released back into the wild! TFTC
Out for a drive and stopped off to grab this one and also drop off a TB which has been sitting in the bottom of my bad for far too long. Tftc
Out for the afternoon in the sun after days of rain!! Parked nearby and after finding the cache walked along the beach. Tftc.
Came to pay respects to those that passed on November 13th 1990. Beautiful memorial. Tftc
With rebel98 on a whirlwind overnight stay in Dunedin
A sad day in history.
Our first visit to this side of the harbour, picked the perfect day to come and explore.
Thanks Natalie247 for the history and the hide.
I picked up the TB for some North Island adventures

Took a wander to the memorial after finding the letterbox. A tragic day in NZ history. I remember being glued to the tv and radio hoping he would be caught. A selfish act. I wish the families well.
Thanks for bringing us here.

This was the last night Jude_E and I stayed in Dunedin tonight. I dropped off a travel bug here. I remember that crime. At that time I thought only that sort of stuff happened in USA , UK or Europe. Sadly not, what a nice memorial.
Thanks for hiding this cache Natalie247 I appreciate it.
Thanks for hiding this cache Natalie247 I appreciate it.
Best thing to do before breakfast is go find the nearest cache.
In this case it was a letterbox!
Much calmer seas out here today than yesterday!

Never been to Aramoana before, of course know about it due to the incident that happened here and also the protests that happened here in the late 70's. I still have some of the stamps that were issued as part of that somewhere in an album.
After spending a while at the beach for a DNF, called by to pick up a few caches before heading back to Dunedin. This was the first and made a quick find once realising where to look. Dropped a TB that we have had for a while. TFTC.

Thanks Natalie247 for the letterbox cache. Lovely day for a drive out here. There was quite a crowd having a swim nearby and it looked very tempting. Picking up some caches today for the caching licence challenge. So pleased to find this one.
On a wet & windy day stopped to pay our respects. Everyone old enough remembers where they were when they heard about this horrific event.
I was in a taxi to Nelson after docking in the port.

Loved the flowers here and had a nice look at the beach.
Thanks for the cache, Natalie247!
Thanks for the cache, Natalie247!
Malinkaly and I went out on a hunt today to reach the top of Kilimanjaro, focusing on mystery caches. Our last stop - a bit of a chance to teach Malinkaly a bit about letterbox hybrid caches, at least from my point of view. It didn't take Malinkaly long to track the cache down - in fact, it took me longer to go back to the car and get my letterbox hybrid logsheet. Thanks for this tribute cache. Cheers!

It is strongly recommend that whilst we go for a walk for exercise, we need to take care on shared surfaces and geocaching should not be done at this time; https://wiki.groundspeak.com/display/GEO/New+Zealand
To remove temptation, I am disabling this cache and ask kindly that you do not find this cache during lockdown.
Remember there is more than physically finding a cache, there are plenty of puzzle caches you can do at home. Or if you live near a multi you can walk the trail and save the find for another day. For more info or connect with wider community see Geocaching New Zealand on Facebook.
Stay home, stay safe and save lives.

A great idea for a cache series. It was rather sobering being out here learning more about what happened on that day.
I have found a couple of caches here in the past and it's always nice to return. A fitting memorial in an idyllic spot.
We’re new to NZ so this was an event that was unknown to us, but a beautiful tribute, and relatively straightforward to find cache
I felt like a little drive before heading back to town for dinner, and since I was already in the right area, it made sense (to me at least) to come out all the way here. It was freezing when I got out of the car and getting dark, so all I did is found this one and the AL, and admired the view from the car until it got completely dark. TFTC!!
Today we went on a mission to avoid cabin fever- another foggy rainy day- and Aramoana was the target. The memorial there is always poignant, I too remember that night well, and see that many have added contributions to the original memorial now. Thanks for placing this.
I found the hint object and there was the cache on its side with the contents spilling out. Log book was still in its bag with no scribbling in it. Replaced everything I saw back into the container and tucked it down into the ivy where it isn't very visible. There is quite an obvious track to the hint object.
No issues with finding this one. Enjoyed a walk out to almost the end of the mole (blocked by sea lion near the end) and along the beach. Dropped TB. Tftc
On a three week trip to the lower South Island with tmann421 hunting caches.
Enjoyed the trip around and the challenge of the finds.

A day out exploring around Aramoana and paid a visit to this memorial nearby. Then had a quick look for this cache and soon had it in hand. Found with Flamingo4850. TFTC.
Biked out from town to make the most of the warm summer day. Explored a path that we'd never had time to explore before, watched the surfers enjoying the break, picnic lunch at the arboretum, exchanged books at the Lilliput library. Had planned to find one cache towards that 4 each calendar day challenge by Troodles, so this was it. An appropriate choice of hiding place (a 1 litre size). Have vivid memories of that day. If only the gun laws had been changed after that...
A quick easy find with JuJu54 by the memorial for this tragedy which we remember well. TFTC
Remember this day well, so sad for everyone involved and a shock to the whole community. Nice to remember it with a cache. Found with WEKA today TFTC
25 January 2021 12:57. Number 9154. I wasn't in New Zealand when this happened, but I remember hearing about it off and on over the years. Paused for a moment to reflect on so much potential lost that day. Tftc
I remember this shooting - feeling horrified and sad for the victims and their families. I also remember seeing the smoke/tear gas on television during the live recording of the siege.
Having a short trip from Invercargill to Christchurch with Infoferret finding lots of caches, in particular the TMGT caches for me.
The cache may be signed with our individual names or ‘IE’.
Many TFTC.

Went away for a camping trip / tiki tour of the lower South Island with our 6 week old boy, and 4yo daughter.
Was planning on mainly doing the Kiwi Guardians adventures for the 4yo, but obviously there were a few caches about too, so found those where they were around!

Out with P&vee grabbing the new caches since I was here last. Great day to walk around. All good here. TFTC Natalie247
Quite surreal!! Just watched the movie “Out of the Blue” before visiting! Thoughts and prayers to all who were affected by this tragedy!!
I decided on a late-ish afternoon drive to Aramoana - pleasant enough weather and no big wind; lots of people on the mole, however.
Quick find at this letterbox, thank you Natalie247.
Quick find at this letterbox, thank you Natalie247.
Quite a few cars parked and a couple of groups heading in to the memorial. I just sat and waited it out reflecting on that terrible event - especially the children. Looked in the wrong place first and then I spotted another likely place and there was the cache. TFTC # 16,443
Came down for this yesterday with Napoleon_Solo. Unfortunately, the twisting road didn't agree with him. When we arrived we noticed a camper van literally within a few metres of GZ with occupants aboard. We decided to go and sit on a seat on the other side of the road and have morning tea, in the hope that the camper would move on. No sooner did morning tea hit NS' tummy than the road had its revenge. Had to get his top off and then get him back to the car to remove his shorts and shoes. I won't go into details about why. To the little trooper's credit, he still wanted to look for the cache. I had to explain that caching in your underwear is not really the done thing. Back today by myself on the bike and the camper is still there. I approached the occupants to explain what I was doing and they already knew the cache was there. So quickly in hand. TFTC.
2nd visitor here today a lot of people around. Just signed before a couple returned to their motorhome for lunch. TFTC
Not first to find but first to stamp. Book just big enough for Pengis favourite. Love this place. Especially penguins on the beach if you know where to look

Didn’t know about this new cache until a friend called to see if we had heard about it.

Didn’t have my new cache notification set to this kind of cache so didn’t know to look for it when we came out earlier for the other one at Te Ngaru. A friend called us to ask why we found one but not the other. Since it was so close to home, we jumped in the car for another quick find! Found with Conbat....TFTC!
