Logs
Mount Cole State Forest opened this week. (Buangor State Park and Mount Lonarch Forests remain closed still).Even though the Forest is now open, the Beeripmo Walk is still off limits for now.We did a reconnaissance trip through the newly opened areas to see the state of things, and if by chance there had been any small pockets of unburnt land that might have held a cache. No such luck (we weren't holding our breath). The bush is all burnt but will regrow of course. Nature is amazing. But it will take time. At the moment, the ground is still very soft and fragile and the animals still need to return and establish their new homes. Any cache placement would be very exposed and covered in soggy black ash anyway.'Even when the Beeripmo Walk reopens, the caches will remain disabled until the bush is ready to host caches again. We will continue to monitor.
The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park remain closed while recovery works continue. Will continue to monitor.
The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park were heavily impacted by the February 22nd bushfires. Both areas remain closed and inaccessible due to the huge amount of fire damaged roads and facilities.Forestry crews have commenced assessment and clearing of fire damaged trees and roads - a mammoth task. The date of reopening the parks has not yet been published, however we will continue to monitor the situation and update as more information comes to hand.Reiterating the previous safety message:PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND ANY CACHE THAT HAS BEEN DISABLED DUE TO THE BUSHFIRES, regardless of whether you think it is safe or not. Any 'Found It' logs while this cache is disabled for this reason will be subsequently deleted.Thank you again for your understanding.Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)
Important Notice:Following the bushfires of February 2024, The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park are currently CLOSED to the public. While the major fire front has been suppressed, there is still a fair amount of fire activity in the form of smouldering stumps and trees. Local agencies are still attending to hot spots, falling trees, road damage and burnt facilities, and may be doing so for the next few weeks, or months even. Many access roads to the forests are still closed or are for local resident access only.PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND ANY CACHE THAT HAS BEEN DISABLED DUE TO THE BUSHFIRES, regardless of whether you think it is safe or not. Any 'Found It' logs while this cache is disabled for this reason will be subsequently deleted. We will continue to update the situation as required, and will address the caches involved once access is finally allowed.Thank you for your understanding.Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)
This cache is an an area subject to fire fighting operations (22-23 Feb) and may have been impacted by the fire. It has been disabled until it is safe for the CO is able to check the current condition of the cache.

Found 10:03 am
A Quick find even with a muggle nearby while making a cup of coffee the sound of his burner was enough to hide the noise of extraction.
Done while doing the Berripmo track this long weekend with ahomburg.

Find #13886
In the area on the Kings Birthday long weekend to do the Beeripmo Hike with SedgwickDave. Day 2 and we had about 18km to do and a number of caches to find. A few muggles at gz admiring the view left us free to find the cache.
Massive thanks go to chooknchunk for placing this one.

Mrs Papi was a beta tester on this one so now that we are in the area, she noticed that FTF has gone and so now we are logging the find. Stunning place to just sit and take in the surrounds. Not so sure about jumping off though. Thanks for the cache and the lovely place that it has shown us.
Not sure I want to hang off a glider let alone launch from here! Amazing view though!!!

We are really so very lucky in Victoria, to have State Parks such as Mt Buangor & State Forests like Mt Cole, where we can pursue our passion for caching. The weather was perfect, magnificent trees and views, a variety of birds, wallabies and of course a great collection of caches. In all we walked about 10 kms, logging a dozen caches.
Specular views - FP awarded, not sure we want to try the gliding though!
Our thanks to chooknchunk for placing and caring for interesting caches on the gameboard.

2 great rewards here!
Fantastic views and a {FTF} at 16.40 today.
We just happened to be nearby... about 8.5km ( as the crow flights) at Fortes Road cache when Mr Riddell declared there was a FTF “ just over there”.
We punched “there”into the car GPS.... it said, over 40 minutes drive plus 20 minute walk from the Mugwamp Hut where we parked the car.
We have been here before on several occasions, walking the Beeripmo and base camping at Middle Creek. It’s always a lovely walk and today is seeing it all at its best.
