We hope you enjoyed exploring Ballarat, Victoria. The Ballarat GeoTour has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 3 years. It has been so fun!
Well this one is tricky to tackle, such a busy place. TFTC Ballarat GeoTour is a highlight in my very short geocaching experience.
8th find on Day 2 of Geo Tour, quick find laying on the ground. Stamped log and replaced. Thanks to CO ??
TFTC,Day 2 as we work on the Ballarat GeoTour.Needs repairs, missing magnet.Visited trackables.
TFTC. At a leap year event in Tailem Bend we were alerted to the fact the Ballarat Geotour had been extended! How AWESOME as we thought we would miss it!Hurrily finding caches before it closes Monday!Setting up camp for a week in Murray Bridge before the MEGA for 29th Feb!Moving to Ballarat for another week afterwards. Last hurrah travelling before wooding season at home starts!Happy caching and safe travels!
This arch is very impressive. We had never been to Ballarat before and now we have seen so much!!! Tftc
Had a blast going around Ballarat with bdp, kimmy533, drobbonz and our labs Cooper and Penny. We did these back on the 20th to 22nd but my logger didn't get around to logging them for me until now. Apologies for the cut and paste but now we have a ton of leap day caches to log. Thanks to the organisers who put this together and kept it all maintained.
Found with Mattycat and Jackthemonkey while touring around the 29th and 30th of January. Thanks for the geotour experience
Found with Mattycat and PurrfectDi while on holidays around the 29th and 30th of January. Thanks for the Ballarat geotour experience

#380There were certainly a lot of muggles driving by when I was at GZ this evening. I spotted the cache pretty quickly so waited for a gap in traffic before going in to grab it. When a gap in traffic soon opened up, I quickly ducked in to grab the cache before returning to my car parked nearby to sign the logbook. The logbook was in good condition, though a small chunk of the container was broken off (this shouldnt affect the log though). After signing, I returned to the hiding spot to place the cache back. I saw another gap in traffic opening up so I quickly dashed in and placed the cache back where I found it.TFTC
6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to prepare an 18-days project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select only few of them. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the Mega, which was initially our aim.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot.During Blackhoot's event, "Auvergnats in Australia #2", McLookers told us about Ballarat's geotour caches. It was a great suggestion for our Sunday schedule. So departure at 8am from Melbourne, to spend the day in Ballarat, we will target geotours and a few extras. As the caches are far away, we will need a good day to turn them yellow. This will allow us to visit different spots in Ballarat. Thanks to the owners for the caches and the discovery of places.Thank you McLookers for this advise.
After staying overnight in Ballarat following a dinner trip to Apollo Bay with the MX-5 Club, I was out and about to finish off this Geo Tour. With 2 finds last year and 4 finds yesterday, I had a busy day ahead... especially as it was going to be hot. After the smoke and flies out near Lake Burrumbeet, it was nice to return to Ballarat itself. There were a few muggles around the Arch taking their photos so I thought this cache could be a problem... but it was sufficiently a discreet distance away that it could be found without attracting any attention. Thanks **ballaratgeotour** for the cache... and the series.
This was a great day to get out and do this Geo tour with the help of some new Aussie friends. This was so fun because the tour has a variety of types of caches and gave such a wonderful tour of the area. This is only our third day visiting from Canada and we sure impressed with the caches and the friendly people. Thanks for the smile
In town to collect the geo tour and a few other select caches. Interesting locations and some great hides along the way certainly fun and show cases the area. TFTC
It was harder to get across the street than it was to find the cache.Very beautiful arch.A huge thank you to everyone who organized and maintained the geotour. A great example of a geotour highlighting a region.Day 2 of BGTThe grand plan was hatched months ago to get the Geotour done before it went away and to make it to Adelaide for the Leap Day Mega. This combined with other side trips and other cachers along the way. Here in Ballarat are bdp, kiwisteve2, drobbonz and kimmy533. It's been fun so far! Ask me in 3 weeks how many caches and how little sleep!
I enjoyed visiting this area although the traffic was quite heavy, making it difficult to cross the roads from where I was parked to GZ. After returning to y car it was time to head further out of Ballarat to continue my GeoTour.Thank you ballaratgeotour for this cache and the GeoTour.
Found during an extended weekend in the Ballarat area with e.gregory1, with the main aim of completing the Ballarat GeoTour, but taking the opportunity to attend a number of events and CITOs, and searching for a good range of caches while touring around the district. Thanks for the cache ballaratgeotour!
Found with FeatherWaite on a 4-day trip to Victoria. From Adelaide. Our main aim was to complete the Ballarat Geotour and other caches of interest in the broader Ballarat area. There were also a number of events and a CITO to attend. The weather was on the warm side, but not too bad for this time of year, which made for pleasant camping each night. The cache was found in good order and was my last cache needed to complete the Ballarat Geotour. Thanks ballaratgeotour for the cache.
Found it, loved it, had a great time on the Ballarat GeoTour......all these amazing areas in and around Ballarat I never knew existed!! Thank you to everyone involved in setting up and managing, TFTC ??
We came to Ballarat today to complete the GeoTour. Thanks ballaratgeotour for bringing us to this iconic part of Ballarat. It is quite inspiring. The cache itself was a super quick find.
We set out to complete as many of the BGT caches as we could today (and mop up the remainder next weekend) and also attend the Farewell Event being held today.A quick find. TFTC.
#21638 @1750Visiting Ballarat for the weekend from Canberra to do the Geotour. Cache easily found. TFTC.
Man, that wind is after searing heat yesterday Got on the bike and pedalled the morning away, got in 26 kliks on the bike, wandering around collecting strays. Ballarat traffic is very cyclist savvy No magnet on the container so its propped up with a bit of natural camo on top TFTC BGT
Day 2 of the Ballarat Geo Tour with Rorgey.Have always been in awe when driving under the Arch of Victory and love Avenue of Honours. Thanks to the Geo Tour we got to stop here and enjoy the Arch up close.Very special places that honour those who have served, especially the fallen
With the end of the BGT fast approaching, B & C put the afternoon aside to head down and clear the rest of the map. After a morning swim to an event in at the waterfront in Geelong and an FTF attempt that fell 3 minutes short, we fuelled up the car and pointed it down the Midland Fwy.Starting in Mt Buninyong, we cleared that out then made our way to Newington, out to the rail trail, back to the memorial arch, around Lake Wendouree and finally finishing in the city. A dozen or so BGTs as well as a handful of extra caches along the way took our tally for the day to 25 odd caches + a set of ad labs. Thanks to all the crew who put the effort in to get the Tour up and running, its much appreciated.
Marking off a couple more BGT caches while spending the weekend in the Creswick/Ballarat area. The Arch is sooo impressive. SL at 9.43am #10,724 TFTC BallaratGeoTour
After hearing that the Ballarat GeoTour was to be archived in early March, I quickly made arrangements to travel down from Queensland to complete it before it became apart of Australian Geocaching history. What a fitting tribute to the men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedom. Thanks for bringing me too this location.Tricky retrieving this cache at such a busy location, but I got it done. GeoTour find # 14 of 25.TFTC. SL. TBs Eddie Mac to New Zealand and Back, Prado Owl , Rawhide , Surrey Travel Tag and Kiwi Bird visited.Find # 1915.
We're back in Ballarat to find the last few remaining geocaches of the Geotour before we head east back to our home base for a little while. This is definitely got to be one of the busiest intersections in Ballarat hopefully everyone was too busy watching the traffic to see what we were doing....Thanks for find #5381TNLN
Ooo la la.I almost feel as if Im in France at the Arc de Triomphe here!! Impressive ANZAC memorial and arch. I believe we were spotted by a local cacher on her way home from work while we were here. Ha! Merci beaucoup
Ballarat certainly hasn't skimped when it comes to its war memorials! A seriously impressive structure. I found the garden of the grieving mother really touching too. Very busy intersection but we were able to retrieve the cache without any problems.
We had a small gap in our retirement schedule and managed to sneak over to complete the geotour - previously we had only found one out at Learmonth. The tour took us to some familiar places but also to some new ones.Is this the busiest intersection in Ballarat? Sure felt like it.Thank you to the team especially those who put quite a bit of effort into the containers.
Still wandering around on a road trip with Jack and Purrfect Di. Every day is a Caching Day - so off we go again [:o)]An impressive arch indeed. Am I old if I remember this being the main road in... Thanks ballaratgeotour for this cache hide and ongoing care and maintenance ---------------- ----------------------In a dangerous world filled with rusty old mint tins and solid caches falling from trees - - - a cache a day keeps us agile... sort of --------Caches are logged using the resources of gsak, garmin, and androids, occasionally AI too! (And a little rubber stamp ) Work gets in the way - and some may take longer to log than others due to mixed technology and need for sleep! The skill and talent of some Zenior Zombies helps, and maybe a spot of luck too [:o)]----------Cache carefully and make sure Travel Bugs are the Only bugs you share and pass on Clean as you go and cache the countryside Big thanks to those placing quality caches out and about around our country areas, in nice safe places and containers especially! - it keeps our game fun for all Of course we do appreciate if you actually did read all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, or so we've been told! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Maybe if I worked out where it is I could do it and go back to normal logs again ! If you find the challenge let me know and perhaps we can put an end to these long logs !!! Maybe not though - as someone actually did read to the end and alerted me to just a project GC badge that requires long logs [:o)] Well at least it's not as bad as finding a mint tin! Did you get that... stop putting out rusty mint tins, just stop it, now!!! C'est fini... For now... ... until tomorrow! Viva Mexicana ! Thanks for the caches beyond the wall [:o)] But there's no place like home! PS:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------GCA1DNA - Great Leap Forward ... or is it backward... it takes an extra day to get to March 29.2.24 The Mega Leap Event of the year. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------And don't forget to put the SA June Long Weekend in your diary for 2024 too... fun and funky finding with a little competition too
We were meant to be in Townsville this long weekend but a tropical cyclone dramatically changed our plans. Kploz and I were still keen to go away and with the Ballarat GeoTour closing soon we thought it was a perfect excuse to head up this way. Felt very exposed trying to retrieve this cache however we managed to get a break in the traffic where I could engage my stealth more. Another great history lesson.
This is a wonderful location and what a magnificent arch - just beautiful. Thank you for making us stop here! I spent the Australia Day long weekend in and around Ballarat with 1TOOLMAN and stainless steel rat to do the geotour. We found them all plus most other caches from our short list of around 70 caches. Thanks to all to COs, and everyone involved in the Ballarat GeoTour
Sometime ago myself and gooseandegg had looked at the idea of doing one of the GeoTours in Australia but due to finders losing the attributes and maybe even the souvenir I wasn't about to go out of my way to search out a GeoTour, upon hearing that finders would retain the attributes and souvenir for the Ballarat GeoTour this changed things and plans were made to head specially to the Ballarat area.We flew out of Hobart on Thursday night after work and after a night staying near the airport we were picked up early by honorary Tasmanian 1Toolman, we spent the next two days searching out all the GeoTour and some choice old or special geocache in and around Ballarat, on Sunday morning we just had time to call at GemmaSistemas event out at Miners Rest before turning tail and dashing for the airport to get on my first ever Rex flight back to Hobart, even landing early at 1307.Found on 26/01/2024 at 18:01:00 thanks to ballaratgeotour for placing this cache for me to find. Found it! Only a few caches left on our cram them all in geotour weekend and here we are at the icon of Ballarat! We parked near an interesting house with a spider on the wall and Muggle Wen waited in the car playing Pokemon while I went to GZ. I had to wait a few muggles out and a lull in traffic to make a quick find. On my return to the car, Muggle Wen said she had been questioned about what she was up to by a couple of occupants of the house with the spider. May I suggest not to park in front of the house with the spider! Unfortunately that episode took away from the visit to the Arch. Anyway TFTC SL ??
In Ballarat again to finish off the Geotour. Smooth sailing for most except one causing us great grief but we got there in the end. This was a nice easy find TFTC
We have come to Ballarat for the weekend to collect all the caches for the Geotour. We found a total of 21 caches today. Quick find here. TFTC
On the train just after 6am to make our way to Ballarat. The light rain cleared, and by the time we left Southern Cross the sun was out.We are on bikes today, so this first tour will focus on caches around central Ballarat.Approaching our eighth cache of nine from the North, it took a while to find a break in the traffic to cross at the arch. Eventually we got there and soon had the cache in hand.TFTC
Lucky there were 2 of us! The hint hadnt refreshed and I would have been looking in the wrong spot! Awkward to find in this magnificent busy spot! Log is full so Kpatt17 added a fresh sheet TFTC
On a wet morning we were about and about finishing the geo tour we are in the home stretch now hopefully we will get it done before we have to head home, this is a must stop when in Ballarat, thanks for placing this cache
After a tasty lunch at Beechworth Bakery we headed out west to do the far reaches of the tour. This one was on the way so we did a quick park and grab - well that was the plan, reality was a little different. Turns out my grand plans of having the geokids do all the hard work may be premature. They had a good go on this one but came up empty handed. I ended up finding it. It was a bit disconcerting with the busy round-about just there.
Day 2 of our adventure around Ballarat with Beardman75 and Peppa. We are back chasing the geotour and its time to head out of town. This is a very impressive archway. I marveled at it while BM75 and Peppa took care of the cache.Tftc ballaratgeotourFind #5237
Day 2 of our Ballarat Boys BreakAn early start sees Breadman75, Davinells and I cruising the mean streets of Ballarat and surrounds in our hire car, the Peugeot Party Prowler We still havent worked out how to unlock the doors from the inside thoughWith zero research this was totally unexpected and were very glad to have been able to visit especially as it gives us a chance to start another Ad Lab Thanks ballaratgeotour ??
Day 2 of a week long caching trip to Ballarat & Geelong regions, to complete the getter before it ends and grab some caches that have been on my to-do list since at least pre-covid.After a morning of caching around Creswick, I headed back to completing the Geotour.I've visited the arch a few times, mostly while caching, and was happy to revisit for this quick little findThanks Gemma and the team for placing and maintaining this Geotour.Find recorded using GCDroid and logged using GSAK
Peppa had a look first then I had to come and find it. Found with Peppa and Davinells. Thanks for the cache ballaratgeotour
Decided to visit Ballarat today to have a decent attempt at ticking off as many caches in the Ballarat Geotour as possible. This was one of the caches we ticked off the list today.TFTC
Find 7 of the 25 Ballarat GeoTour CachesWhat an amazing Arch and Avenue! Another awesome memorial to those we've lost in battle. Thanks for the great hint - the cache was found quickly, log signed, cache tucked back in and I was heading back to my car. The intersection was incredibly busy when I arrived, there was no way I could avoid the gaze of muggles, so I was very happy to use the hint to be as fast as I could. My thanks to all involved in setting up and maintaining all the caches of the GeoTour - an amazing effort that is greatly appreciated.PS: The Troll Dolls [TN6TR0] were with me on my great caching adventures today.
Impressive as always! Im thinking that as the time marches on Im chipping away in a mighty solo manner - and the last forever and what a blast its now in the past. The Geotour is 5 hours from home base so it was a case of will I regret it, Im in Melbs and its only a wee detour to finish the last 18 - yes Id only completed 7 so a spontaneous decision saw me on a mission leaving marvellous Melbs a tad late. The mission included a promise to self about no geo distractions and total self discipline for the first time ever - only snacks and no stopping, no picking up other solved puzzles and no spontaneity for 6 hours did it with an efficient plan. The journey aka tour gave a good sense of days gone past. THTC and the FUN.
ok ok just one more cache before dinner, we'll just say that we had trouble getting back out of the storm water drain. Actually that was true. I was accompanied by greatjustgreat, and this cache was "on the way" so we pulled over in the parking area and had a walk around the memorial here. We got some photos of the memorial and moved to the cache location. The cache container was found and we signed the log sheet. All good and dry here, and we finally called it a day. One more cache left in the tour, and we have a plan.... Cheers
Found with isopeda after the event earlier day. Headed off to focus on the Ballarat Geotour but took advantage of the locations to collect some extra caches as well. Tftc
We drove along the whole Avenue - so sad to see all the thousands of plaques. Lest we forget. TFTC *Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
Quick and easy find this one, It honestly took longer to find a suitable carpark, give way to all the traffic and then play frogger and try to cross the road without some psycho driver wanting to run me over Haha.. Anyways, cache was an easy find, log signed and returned back to its original hiding position. Thanks heaps for the cache.
Wow. What a great spot! But gee SO Many muggles about! Even mowers! Geohubby had to be quick with this one. TFTC
With a few days off after the start of the new year an arrangement was made to attempt to do some caches in Ballarat including the D/T Matrix Challenge cache With cache in hand we signed the log and replaced as found. Jetsons23 and Oshfam on some geocaching shenanigans. Collecting smilies along the way. Hoping to get the Ballarat tour done today. Thanks for the cache. Much respect to our diggers.
With the time running out to complete the Ballarat GeoTour, I thought that I had better make a start. With a NYD event on in the morning it seemed like a good day for it, as well as a nice sunny warm Summers day. I was hoping to get all of the GeoTour caches knocked over in one day, but a return trip is required to grab just a couple more. Thanks for all involved in placing these caches and maintaining them for the duration of the GeoTour. This truly is an impressive arch, beautiful architecture and quality of build. What a way to show respect for those that have served for our country. More stealth required to grab this one.
With the Ballarat Geotour nearing its end, jetsons23 and I set off very early morning for the long drive to Ballarat for a day of adventures and hopefully some shenanigans. We agreed the plan was to be disciplined and only find Geotour caches and not get distracted by other caches nearby or along the way. I must say we did amazingly well sticking to this plan, not deviating even though we were tempted. The first day of the new year is set to bring a 25 degree sunny day.Really lovely old arch and The Avenue for all who sacrificed. Thank you for the cache here BallaratGeoTour??
14/25 In Ballarat on this New Years Eve to complete the Geotour. Making great progress and found this cache before we tackled the caches around the lake. TFTC
Found it, quick find and log, just waited for a break in the muggle traffic driving by. TFTC
Today, 30/12/2023 we completed the Geotour! Thanks so much to the cache owners and placement of a wonderful tour. Ballarat is steeped with history and this Geotour scratches the surface and showcases some really beautiful areas. It was a pleasure to complete this Geotour before it is finished in 2024
Came east for some CITOs, then came further east for the geotour I had yet to find...Most unique in their own way.Nicely put together, and wish I'd had made more time earlier in year to find more of them then!Awesome memorial avenue!TNLNSL Thanks
Came back here with my newly made friends Simber15 with new intel from a PAF. For those struggling - the hint no longer matches the hide. TFTC
What a great spot! Havent noticed this arch before despite coming to Ballarat as a child many times. Appreciate the significance.
Found during my roadtrip from Canberra to do the Ballarat GeoTour. This was my first ever GeoTour cache, and what a memorable spot for it, this arch is amazing! Driving through it was also very different. Found this nice and easy after checking into my hotel. TFTC!

Thanks for all caches and greetings from Czech republic.
Plenty of muggle traffic here today so i felt quite exposed while retrieving this little fella but i think i managed it ok. By the way it has lost its bungy so to speak but was still in the right location. BGT09: The Arch & The Avenue (Ballarat GeoTour) is find number 3,263 for me. A great micro traditional cache I enjoyed finding as part of my caching fun in City Of Ballarat. Unless otherwise mentioned above, I found the coordinates to be accurate, the cache in good condition and the log dry and with plenty of room to sign. I am logging this one on Wednesday 20 Dec 2023 at 3:27 pm and the weather is Clear Sky 19C 51% 3 m/s . Thanks for placing this cache for the rest of us to enjoy ballaratgeotour.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
A few spare days to fill before Christmas so I made the decision to hit the road and go on a road trip from Adelaide to Ballarat. The main purpose of the trip is to tackle the Ballarat Geo Tour before they get archived in February 2024. Day three was spent getting festive on the Christmas Down Under trail, a spell in Miners Rest, a walk around Learmonth, west side of Lake Lake Wendouree and even found the time to pick up a few solved mysteries. Another busy day. Found without problems. Thanks for the cache BallaratGeoTour.# # #13799 # #
Today is operation lets do the Ballarat Geo Tour. Lovely day for it too. Find #8. What a great spectacle this arch is for the city of Ballarat. Great tribute TFTC
Out for a nice morning walk while staying nearby in Ballarat which turned out to be a good time to search for this one as the traffic wasn't too bad! TFTC
Thought wed spend some time working through this wonderful Geotour. A nice, quick find after looking at the hint. I wonder if there was supposed to be a magnet attaching it? It appears there isnt any more. Many thanks ballaratgeotour for providing this game piece for our enjoyment. And thanks for sharing the highlights of your region . ????
Visiting from Port Macquarie.Today we set out on a mission to complete the Ballarat Geotour as it was our only opportunity to do so before it ends early next year. Overall it was a very busy, cold, and productive caching day out. Thanks for the cache
Find#5874Nice hiding place What a awesome weekend on a trip to Ballarat and surrounds Thanks for the cache
Another stop with Nelzarama on the geotour. After not being able to get into Vic Park because of the festival clean up we headed a bit further up to grab this one. Definitely looked like a weirdo grabbing it though!TFTC
The hint saved me from spending way too long searching in probably the wrong place. It was a quick grab, sign and gone.
We're working our way through the geotour caches and others, this will be another memorable caching trip, a little more challenging due to the weather . Still it's great to be outdoors ans collecting smileys.TFTC J+J.au
