We are staying up at rangatau in a friend cottage for a week or so and i went out to locate the few caches here that i still did not have a smiley face on so i set out early in the morning before the rain appeared and tiki toured around the 4 caches . i had no probalem with any of them and particularly liked the Rochford station cache . The newish sign over the rail road tracks indicate that perhaps the mill still operates although i saw no sign of life on my visit . It took a few minutes to locate this one as there were quite a few possibly place where it could be hidden but once in hand i had it signed and returned to its hide . all was well with the cache here . I took nothing and left nothing . thank you for this cache here .

We're currently staying at National Park, and popped down this way for the day. Rather interesting route down this road, and we enjoyed finding this one as opposed to the ubiqitous nanos that are so hard to find on machinery like this! TFTC Smile

01-Mar-23
Took a road less traveled. Interesting history about the mill. No problems with the cache.

Thanks for the history and the hide, enjoyed finding the cache amongst the rusty relics.

I can imagine little me back in the day having an awesome imaginary play on this old machinery! I personally felt like a dreadnought under full steam - so graceful! Finding the cache with support from my trusty sidekick Piwaka54. Awesome rocks nearly had me fooled. Wonderful history thanks!!! A fav point from me!

06-Jan-23
Very fun took us a while but it was good we left something there too enjoy

31-Dec-22
I drove along here from the junction, bit of a squeeze getting the motorhome over the one lane bridge crossing the railway line just before here, but made it ok. Certainly an interesting area, no problems today with no one around, TFTC

Not something you would have wanted to trap a body part in, it would have ripped you apart! At least today it is safe to scrabble around and secure the cache, TFTC

On Tippy Top cache trip with DavidsonClan, having done the summit cache in the morning there was time and energy left to find some more caches before it was time to head home.
Another RadioNut cache ticked off, the weather has turned out nice afterall.

A popular cache today, I'm the third visitor of the day here looking at the log and online. Took the side trip to get this and the next on a road not traveled before. Interesting machinery and the cache was a quick find thanks radionut50.

After a good week away from my new workplace in both Whangamata and then at home in Auckland it was time to head back down the line to Manawatu. Problem is, there's a 'bit of weather' going on outside, In fact the artist formerly known as Cyclone Dovi is weakening over the North Island n=but wow, what winds there were at home before I left with bins blowing over, the door off the BBQ cabinet whizzing across the garden and leaves being distributed all around. The trip South was interesting to say the least with branches down all over the place and even a tree across most of the road South of Te Kuiti. A steady drive back as in no rush and stopped for just the five caches as it was also pouring down for the latter part of the trip. Thanks to the COs for helping me break it up a little.

Another easy find my kids are loving hurting for treasures

Quick visit to Ohakune from Whakapapa just to get a couple of caches. Thanks for the cache.

Catching up on our logging of finds, another interesting piece of history here. We had stayed in Ohakune many times, skiing and riding our bikes around but never knew about the historic background of this place. Enjoyed our visit. TFTC. PS. Car got flat battery here, will never forget it, stuck out here in the middle of nowhere, rang AA, they were toooo slow so we fixed the problem ourselves.

24-Jan-22
We have our car back from Smash Palace, we have food for dinner at the Top10 and we have the cache, yippee. Thanks.

24-Jan-22
A nice quick find thanks. Last for the day.

Time for another trip to the North Island for Ms_KR and me. We had a quiet family day yesterday and today we are hoping to get our repaired car back. It is the first day in a while that we have had to cache in the (light) rain!

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Heading to Smash Palace at Horopito to replace my stolen PWGT geocache there and a new Reach the Peak mountain to climb too.
This was the seventh of sixteen found today, at 10:40
I believe this is the first time I’ve been down this road alongside the railway line. Another piece of interesting history - being the birthplace of Carters / Carter Holt Harvey. This would’ve been a great location for a Pokai Whenua GeoTour. TFTC All good here.

#10,494. I am making my way north to Auckland and Northland over New Year. Stopping tonight at Taumarunui. Last year on the same day I stopped at a friends cabin in Rangataua. There was a heavy frost overnight on 30-31 Dec. Today was a lot warmer than that day. This is a road I have not travelled on previously. An interesting route to Ohakune. Especially that bridge over the railway crossing at the end. Parked and crossed the railway here to the machinery. Thought it was going to take a while but must have got lucky as found the container in the first place checked. Signed the logbook and replaced everything as found. Thanks radionut50 for taking the time to hide another cache in Rangataua and providing some history of the Dreadnought Mill.

20-Dec-21
It was interesting to read that this mill was one of the origins of Carter Holt Harvey. Although caches hidden on machinery can be difficult to find, this one was a fairly quick find. TFTC

23-Sep-21
What an interesting little piece of history.
Mr rattll had to scurry but to the car in a hurry when a muggle from the property decided to leave and we were blocking the driveway.
Fortunately it was a quick find as we had to leave quickly when a second muggle vehicle started up
We left a pet rock - a swan. Many thanks for showing us this spot

22-Sep-21
We were wondering about the existence of Rangatau ... Thanks for the history/ explanation and cache!

08-Sep-21
A nice quick find here and then we couldn't start the car - flat battery. A bit of a wait and the battery came back to life, phew, and back on the road again. TFTC!!!

Coordinates changed from:
S 39° 24.680 E 175° 25.900

Coordinates changed to:
S 39° 24.688 E 175° 25.900

Distance from original: 48.9 feet or 14.9 meters.

We noted with surprise the logs suggesting a waypoint error, so an investigation was clearly needed. We always use a real GPS Receiver, and the averaging function to get the best fix possible, so this is very strange.

Today we re-did the averaging, and horrors – a different result! We can’t be sure what went wrong previously, but a human element must have got into the mix, possibly a simple typo, or maybe something odd in the stellar array on that day.
This new waypoint is close to that submitted by the Squirrel in his log, so is probably a reasonable fix.

The cache is exactly where it was laid, and as described in the detailed hint. Like all our hides, there is no intention to make this some form of “hide and seek” mystery, the cache is placed to take you to a historical location, not to frustrate you.

20-Jun-21
The cache was found by another cacher one day later, so seems to be still in place. Clearing the Needs Maintenance flag.

Another interesting place. Were going to have a look around inside the gate, but saw a car there and thought better of it! TFTC

Found with Tramper Ted, we are both enjoying exploring some history around Ohakune. Glad of the specific hint as we both found the coordinates to be about 10m out, or we could have spent some time poking around the wrong machinery. Thanks for your placement and information radionut50.

After parking up the snail shell in the big carpark in National Park I was off down the road to locate a few caches.

An interesting bit of local history.

Cheers for the cache.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Easter weekend is upon us. We’ve been looking forward to this holiday - it’s a chance to take a big swipe at the PWGT2 caches. We’re also keen to pick off some interesting hides and avenge one or two previous DNFs... Heading home today - clearly, this is the most organised leg of the weekend.

We’ve worked for Carter, Holt, Harvey in the distant past, so it was interesting to note that the company’s origins can be traced back to Francis John Carter... We circled ground zone a couple of times before settling on the most logical site. Thanks radionut50 and TFTC.

March has been such a busy month, but not so much with getting out and about to indulge in finding some caches for myself. So what better way to remedy this than have a few days away in an area not previously cached out?
Cue a weekend of touring around the Tongariro National Park in good company. Exactly what I needed, and a weekend that would see me find over a hundred caches, including getting my 4000th.

It was a 2 hour drive after work today to get to Ohakune, which was to be our base for 2 nights. I didn't worry about caching much on the way up until after I have unpacked my car at the campground, when I decided to grab a few before the light failed me.

In spite of it being a Friday evening, the whole area was very quiet so I was able to search without having to worry much about Muggles. Searched where my GPS took me without luck, and then searched the more obvious location about 10m away after which the cache was a reasonably quick find, and I was able to sign and replace the log without issue.

Thanks for setting up another new cache.

#12,216. An interesting spot in Ohakune. Fortunately, GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Widened the search, and found well-hidden about 15 metres away. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside.

Took Radionut50's Greetings Tag and Butterfly Lady 2017 pathtags
Left nothing signed log.

Thanks for the placement, and for bringing us to this site, and …

GPS distance jumped around a bit but the clue was great. I knew what it was talking about so I persevered and got it. I must remember to carry little keepsakes to add to some of the caches I come across. TFTC

Found while out on a morning cycling ride.
Watched by the cache owner.
Love this area.

Cool relics. Miss 6 had fun exploring but as I was the only one keen to put my hand in dark places, I was the one rewarded with the find. Miss 6 enjoyed swapping SWAG. I've told her that she's not allowed to blow the whistle in the car.. it could be a long drive home. Tftc

Was in Ohakune for work and noticed that there was a new cache
