This was a great day to get out and do this Geo tour with the help of some new Aussie friends. This was so fun because the tour has a variety of types of caches and gave such a wonderful tour of the area. This is only our third day visiting from Canada and we sure impressed with the caches and the friendly people. Thanks for the smile

6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to prepare an 18-days project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select only few of them. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the Mega, which was initially our aim.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot.During Blackhoot's event, "Auvergnats in Australia #2", McLookers told us about Ballarat's geotour caches. It was a great suggestion for our Sunday schedule. So departure at 8am from Melbourne, to spend the day in Ballarat, we will target geotours and a few extras. As the caches are far away, we will need a good day to turn them yellow. This will allow us to visit different spots in Ballarat. Thanks to the owners for the caches and the discovery of places.Thank you McLookers for this advise.

For some reason, I kind of forgot this cache existed while I was at Miners Rest this morning. This cache should have been my second find of the BGT today after finding the one there, but instead I ended up making my way towards Lake Burrumbeet. It wasnt until later in the afternoon and zooming out on my maps that I realised I had completely missed this one. As a result, I ended up driving a lot further and losing more time than necessary. But oh well, that's all a part of the adventure! When I eventually made it to the posted coordinates, I quickly grabbed the required numbers before returning to my car to work out the solution. Despite the solving taking a bit longer than anticipated, I did eventually get myself a seemingly suitable set of coordinates and so I made my way over to them. I was relieved when I arrived at GZ to immediately be greeted by the hint item. I quickly exited my car and made my way over to it to begin searching for the cache. I found the cache pretty quickly and soon had the logbook signed. All was in good condition with this cache.TFTC

In town to collect the geo tour and a few other select caches. Interesting locations and some great hides along the way certainly fun and show cases the area. Not sure we got the maths exactly right but the hint got as to the right spot TFTC

Quick find under bridge.CO gave coords at event.Even though found yesterday but I'm submitting my logs today. Today the fire is near. Hope everyone stays safe.A huge thank you to everyone who organized and maintained the geotour. A great example of a geotour highlighting a region.Day 2 of BGTThe grand plan was hatched months ago to get the Geotour done before it went away and to make it to Adelaide for the Leap Day Mega. This combined with other side trips and other cachers along the way. Here in Ballarat are bdp, kiwisteve2, drobbonz and kimmy533. It's been fun so far! Ask me in 3 weeks how many caches and how little sleep!

I didn't want the epic weekend of escaping zombies, kayaking on the lake, strolling through the botanic gardens and crawling through tunnels to end.. so I set off for 'one' more cache at 4pm on a sunday.this was the 'third' cache.. well i am on a roll now and after a quick stop in the deserted town made my way back to this cache.i did a PAF as i couldn't locate the cache but just as she answered i touched it pushed a lot further in then expected!

There were also a number of events and a CITO to attend. The weather was on the warm side, but not too bad for this time of year, which made for pleasant camping each night. The cache was found in good order. Thanks ballaratgeotour for the cache.

After hearing that the Ballarat GeoTour was to be archived in early March, I quickly made arrangements to travel down from Queensland to complete it before it became apart of Australian Geocaching history. Quickly got the required info to find the GZ. Shame to see the old shop boarded up. Quick find at the final. Nice view of the lake close by. No stamp in the cache.GeoTour find # 10 of 25.TFTletterboxC. TNLN. SL. TBs Eddie Mac to New Zealand and Back, Prado Owl , Rawhide , Surrey Travel Tag and Kiwi Bird visited.Find # 1908.

On a mission to do what felt impossible (find all BGT caches in two days) we blew through Learmonth with just a quick sideways glance at some impressively old and interesting buildings. I was really hoping that the letterbox cache would incorporate a trip back to these buildings that I only got a fleeting glance at. But unfortunately it didnt, and our direction of travel to the next cache at Lake Burrumbeet didnt allow another drive-by either. Im still (a day and a half later) absolutely sulking about the fact that we didnt go back and have a better look. We thought wed take a round-about trip to the cache via the public toilets and cut through the caravan park or the oval. Neither of those options worked out for us, and we found ourselves once again feeling like we were wasting time and our goal was slipping out of reach. After wandering back and forth, we made our way back to the car and DROVE to the cache.

02-Feb-24
What a cute little town. I was spewing that it was too early in the day for a visit to Learmonth Cider! I calculated GZ with no probs (thank to handy features of c:geo) but totally stuffed up our walk to GZ. We went via the oval, toilets, the caravan park, back through the oval and then realised we did in fact need to go the other way round. Back to the car and a short drive to GZ, followed by a quick find. My goodness we are taking ages to do each of these caches. I guess that's a good thing - at least we are taking the time to appreciate each location!

Still wandering around late on a road trip with Jack and Purrfect Di. Every day is a Caching Day - so off we go again Big GrinCool [:o)]A quick find and sign... once we'd worked out which numbers and applied them correctly. It was 10 o'clock at night and a long day! There's a challenge somewhere out there, or so we've been told! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Wink Maybe if I worked out where it is I could do it and go back to normal logs again ! If you find the challenge let me know and perhaps we can put an end to these long logs !!! Maybe not though - as someone actually did read to the end and alerted me to just a project GC badge that requires long logs [:o)] Well at least it's not as bad as finding a mint tin! We're heading back to Maryborough after attending an event and decided to find the far-flung geocaches of the Ballarat Geotour that we didn't get to on our last foray. This one was a little tricky, more because we misunderstood when to apply the checksum, than from any particular difficulty. An easy find once we finally got the numbers sorted Thanks for find #5365TNLN

We were meant to be in Townsville this long weekend but a tropical cyclone dramatically changed our plans. Kploz and I were still keen to go away and with the Ballarat GeoTour closing soon we thought it was a perfect excuse to head up this way. We enjoyed the history of this cache and also read up on the history of the nearby pub. Cache is in good condition but missing its stamp. Thanks for bringing us here.

Last cache of the goetour. We're pretty happy with ourselves, and we have a good chunk of the day for more caching.I spent the Australia Day long weekend in and around Ballarat with 1TOOLMAN and stainless steel rat to do the geotour. We found them all plus most other caches from our short list of around 70 caches. Thanks to all to COs, and everyone involved in the Ballarat GeoTour

Sometime ago myself and gooseandegg had looked at the idea of doing one of the GeoTours in Australia but due to finders losing the attributes and maybe even the souvenir I wasn't about to go out of my way to search out a GeoTour, upon hearing that finders would retain the attributes and souvenir for the Ballarat GeoTour this changed things and plans were made to head specially to the Ballarat area.We flew out of Hobart on Thursday night after work and after a night staying near the airport we were picked up early by honorary Tasmanian 1Toolman, we spent the next two days searching out all the GeoTour and some choice old or special geocache in and around Ballarat, on Sunday morning we just had time to call at GemmaSistemas event out at Miners Rest before turning tail and dashing for the airport to get on my first ever Rex flight back to Hobart, even landing early at 1307.Found on 27/01/2024 at 12:21:00 thanks to ballaratgeotour for placing this cache for me to find. In Ballarat again to finish off the Geotour. This one really gave us grief. We had no Idea how to project the waypoint and then my Hubby went off to somewhere he thought was right and no luck then we came back and tried again and we got some where out in a paddock. We went over there and had a look anyway. we were looking around for ages and then we decided on a spot that must be it from previous logs, "it has to be here" was shouted over and over again. then by chance I relooked at the hint. OMG I was going on a hint from a previous cache! The penny dropped and within minutes we found it. OMG 2 hrs looking and we could have found this quite quickly if I had the right hintTFTC ????

20-Jan-24
Found with tikitere and larafolk. After a couple of failed attempts we finally found a day to finish the BGT. Thankfully all caches were found before dark. It took a number of goes to get the checksums right the off for a quick find. TFTC

20-Jan-24
Found it! This was our next stop on our geotour and we bumped into a caching team we crossed paths with earlier in the day. It seemed like they were well on their way to solving the letter box problem, so I quickly gathered the required information and set about solving the final GZ. Once solved we set off to GZ and found it deserted. After checking a couple of places, I reached in and found the cache. TFTC SL ??

The completion of the Geotour was finally in our sights after 3 cancelled trips due to sickness and fire disasters. Finally we will complete the tour and claim the prize - a Geotour Coin. Caching with Redink, Tikitere, with Jonescrew joining us for a couple of caches as well. We had a massive day... Just over 10 hours of caching to finish. A really fun day. Lots of driving. A lot more walking than we anticipated. Some really lovely locations. Some very interesting cache notes and history. Thank for the series, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Hard to get numbers right. We had to have 3 goes at it to get the right coords. Relief when we got it right and a reasonable set of coords. Thanks.

15-Jan-24
Another one off my geotour map, such a beautiful spot that I'll definitely be back to for more exploring! Thanks ??

14-Jan-24
And now to the other side of the lake. We found the required information easily enough (or so we thought we did) and then went down to the foreshore to use the facilities. The wind had quite a bite to it out on the jetty! I used the time to calculate GZ, but my checksum didn't work out. I was a bit concerned, but it kind of looked okay location wise. I checked the previous logs and found a few comments about the location and the hint. I'm glad I did, because it turns out that my calculated GZ was a good 60m out! The direction seemed fine, but the distance was off. Geodaughter made the find based on the hint. I suspect that the phone number in the booth has changed.

Its day 2 of Peppas plan to traipse around Ballarat and surrounds chasing the geotour and easily getting sidetracked by shiny things. 12/01/2024 6:36:00 PMDay 1 of a week long caching trip to Ballarat & Geelong regions, to complete the getter before it ends and grab some caches that have been on my to-do list since at least pre-covid.I must of miscalculated GZ as I was good way off but the hint steered to the right place as I found it in the first place I looked.A big thanks to Gemma and the team of placing and maintaining this geotour. Find recorded using GCDroid and logged using GSAK

Decided to visit Ballarat today to have a decent attempt at ticking off as many in the Ballarat Geotour as possible. Our first find of the day as we headed off the freeway from Melbourne to gather the western caches. The hint definitely helped in finding the cache that was 30-40 metres off the co-offs that we solved.TFTC Smile

Find 4 of the 25 Ballarat GeoTour CachesThis was quite a quick find (thank you Tania and Gemma for pointing me in the right direction) The cache was uncovered quickly, log signed and I was on the road again. My thanks to all involved in setting up and maintaining all the caches of the GeoTour - an amazing effort that is greatly appreciated.PS: I stumbled across Cafe 321 in Learmonth. Great food - the homemade sausage rolls are yummy.PS: The Troll Dolls [TN6TR0] were with me on my great caching adventures today.

So cutting here. Im thinking that as the time marches on Im chipping away in a mighty solo manner - and the last forever and what a blast its now in the past. The Geotour is 5 hours from home base so it was a case of will I regret it, Im in Melbs and its only a wee detour to finish the last 18 - yes Id only completed 7 so a spontaneous decision saw me on a mission leaving marvellous Melbs a tad late. The mission included a promise to self about no geo distractions and total self discipline for the first time ever - only snacks and no stopping, no picking up other solved puzzles and no spontaneity for 6 hours did it with an efficient plan. The journey aka tour gave a good sense of days gone past. THTC and the FUN.

Must have made an error in our calculations but with the hint, we soon found it.

Started my GeoTour Trail along Ballarat up here at Lake Learmonth nice and early in the morning. Got what i thought to be all the correct details, did the projection then went to the location. That happened to be in the paddock.. Though i read the hint witch brought me back to the actual location of the cache, and eventually got the find after searching the wrong place.

In Ballarat for a few days over the Christmas, New Year to clean up a few caches in the area we had missed on our last visit, after a day of caching we parked up the geosplora wagon at the lake Burrambeet for the evening and set up camp, what a great view over the lake to wake up to and enjoy breakfast. After packing up, it was time to go exploring Nice easy find, took nothing, left nothing but a signed log tftc

We dont mind the old letterbox cache, so it was good to see one as part of the tour. We made our way to the posted coordinates and collected the information that we needed to calculate the final location. Some quick calcs in the car and we were ready to go. We had spied a little caf on the way, so we grabbed a coffee and toast before we attempted to find the log book.Once at the location, some feeling around eventually paid off, and the cache container was retrieved. Nice size, and bigger than I thought it was going to be at this hiding location.Names entered, all good here. Thanks very much for creating this cache. Cheers

Last cache of the series!!!Travelling from WA, I managed to compete this series over three attempts while visiting friends and family in Melbourne and Geelong. Wet shoes, many prickles, some fantastic views were on offer, and of course visiting lovely Ballarat for the first time. Overall it has been fun! FP for the effort setting this up, and finishing on one of my favourite caches, the letterbox. Cheers!

With the time running out to complete the Ballarat GeoTour, I thought that I had better make a start. With a NYD event on in the morning it seemed like a good day for it, as well as a nice sunny warm Summers day. I was hoping to get all of the GeoTour caches knocked over in one day, but a return trip is required to grab just a couple more. Thanks for all involved in placing these caches and maintaining them for the duration of the GeoTour. I was fortunate to have met the CO shortly before attempting this cache and was able to be provided with the correct coordinates to ensure a quick find.

With the Ballarat Geotour nearing its end, jetsons23 and I set off very early morning for the long drive to Ballarat for a day of adventures and hopefully some shenanigans. We agreed the plan was to be disciplined and only find Geotour caches and not get distracted by other caches nearby or along the way. I must say we did amazingly well sticking to this plan, not deviating even though we were tempted. The first day of the new year is set to bring a 25 degree sunny day.Projections are not our strong point but we managed to get thru what was required here. Jetsons23 did the retrieving as it was so hot that I couldn't be bothered to bend down and at one stage the stream looked inviting until I saw the other part of the stream further along. Yeah, nah. Back to the air conditioning in the car for us. Thank you for the cache here BallaratGeoTour??

23/25 In Ballarat and surrounds to complete the Geotour. We had checked into the motel and decided to head over to the New Years Eve event in Beaufort. We stopped in Learmonth to complete this cache. One part of our calculations didnt add up in the check sum. Seems to be an error (surely not us ??) With limited time we PAF and got the help we needed to make the find. Would love to come back here and complete the other caches in this town. TFTC

B&Cs last minute road trip to the rat. With the girls having organised some friends to visit for sleepover, the boys made a last minute decision to get out of Dodge and hit um some caches. With the GeoTour approaching end of life, Ballarat was our chosen destination. Given we left Geelong early afternoon we were never going to knock it all off in one day so we decided to tackle the outer ones, leaving the caches in Central Ballarat/Lake Wendouree and Mt Buninyong for another day. This meant we could tackle other caches in some areas while we were there, which meant we managed to sign a few challenge caches, tick off the final 2 holes in our hidden date calendar, grab a virtual, a few ad lab stages and finish the day off dropping a ladder into a drain before heading home and arriving back in Geelong just before 10:30pmWe were fortunate enough to have a 100% success rate today, thanks to all the COs who have placed and maintained these caches.Made some sort of error in our calcs here, not sure where. A quick PAF and we had a better set of numbers, 13m from where we had parked the car based off the hint. Win!

Today, 30/12/2023 we completed the Geotour! Thanks so much to the cache owners and placement of a wonderful tour. Ballarat is steeped with history and this Geotour scratches the surface and showcases some really beautiful areas. It was a pleasure to complete this Geotour before it is finished in 2024.We were a bit worried we would get lost with calculating GZ with the projection - but we came up good.

Found with Simber15. It was sad to see the general store in this town was all boarded up. The nearby pub was still up and running though. We managed to find the required information with ease and off we went to GZ. There were a couple of places it could have been, but trying both, we eventually had the CiH. Thank you BallaratGeoTour for the placement

Found with Lani_B. We bumped into each other at Miners Rest and decided to team up for a few outlying GeoTour caches.

I decided i needed a day of caching as i havnt found one for ages so came down to the Ballarat area to complete the geotour and some other targets. This was my first find for the day. I didnt like the coordinates i first calculated here but after going back and rechecking the numbers i soon came up with a more likely target. Once at gz it was a quick find, ooooh i have missed that feeling ! BGT24: Learmonth (Ballarat GeoTour) is find number 3,259 for me. A great small letterbox hybrid I enjoyed finding as part of my caching fun in City Of Ballarat. Unless otherwise mentioned above, I found the coordinates to be accurate, the cache in good condition and the log dry and with plenty of room to sign. I am logging this one on Wednesday 20 Dec 2023 at 12:34 pm and the weather is Clear Sky 17C 53% 7 m/s . Thanks for placing this cache for the rest of us to enjoy ballaratgeotour.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*

A few spare days to fill before Christmas so I made the decision to hit the road and go on a road trip from Adelaide to Ballarat. The main purpose of the trip is to tackle the Ballarat Geo Tour before they get archived in February 2024. Day three was spent getting festive on the Christmas Down Under trail, a spell in Miners Rest, a walk around Learmonth, west side of Lake Lake Wendouree and even found the time to pick up a few solved mysteries. Another busy day. My calculated coordinates led me to a paddock fence line. Nothing really matched the hint. A cursory search revealed nothing. I went back to my car to recalculate coordinates when a car pulled up in front of me. I thought it was a muggle but turned out to be geocacher SlowDog. We chatted a bit and then searched further afield in an area that did match the hint. Cache found shortly after. Always great to meet Geocachers in the field. Thanks for the cache BallaratGeoTour.# # SmileSmile #13788 SmileSmile # #

Thought wed spend some time working through this wonderful Geotour. This was not in the most obvious place, well, at least where we thought was the most obvious place. Got there in the end. Many thanks ballaratgeotour for providing this game piece for our enjoyment. And thanks for sharing the highlights of your region .
