Summer Geocaching Road Trip - Day 1 - Christchurch to Picton. It's been a while since I've been off on a road trip and this one has been on the cards for quite a while. I plan to visit some parts of the country where I've done very little caching before and hope to complete the qualification for a challenge cache in Nelson. Took me longer to get my hands on it than it should have done. Found in a spot I'm sure I'd already checked more than once. TFTC, Biggles.
️ Parking ️ was wonderful. It made finding this cache really enjoyable. I thought I would have a quick lunch break.
Yeah right. A bit of an adventure. Scrambling, crawling, searching.... searching. And oh dah paffing.
Searching and then finding. An hour later.

A quick find on a brilliant fine day. Cache is all good. Thanks for the placement.
Find #7 of the day.
We swung in here early, at the first opportunity to get down to the old road after the bend.
Don’t do that.
The exit back on to the main road needs to be quick, and it is dangerous.
Use the parking waypoint.
Cache took a while to track down too. We must be tired, there was nothing too tricky about it.
TFTC GH6710. Been a while since I have found one of yours, hope you are keeping well.
Driving back to Blenheim from Gore Bay, after spending the long weekend there.
Broke up the trip a bit with a few caches for me, and some shopping for RG72 In Kaikoura.

Having a milestone birthday this weekend, my aim was 50 caches. That was too much for one day so the 50 finds were spread over the celebratory weekend, 1/2 on my way South and 1/2 on my way North.
This was find number 49. Initially wondered how to get over there but once at the gate it all became clear. I think a FP here.

Stopped here on our way to Blenheim, and found it after a bit of a scramble.TFTH
Found after a bit. I was searching under based on the information on the cache page; but that's not were it was.
I am surprised this old bridge wasn't demoed when the new one was built. Must be about the only thing other than the tunnels left of the old road from pre eq days.

After aborting our previous attempt to reach this cache a six months ago because of the slippery wet boulders, today everything was dry, so a proper attempt was called for. Although the coordinates were accurate, the hint was, and remains, meaningless to us. As it happens, we tried the correct place early on, but missed the cache. After a lengthy search in other locations, eventually we returned and spotted the cache immediately. TFTC
This was a great adventure for us as so interesting to see all the new construction. Great views from under the new bridge then a boulder hopping adventure to GZ. Took the hint to mean Be Bl...y Careful then went for where the phone took us. Cool cache container took both of us to open it. Really hoped a train wouldn't come past as I was balancing on the rocks lol. Stopped for photos. A fav from us as a great place to see the costruction, views and the adventure. Thanks for this cache GH6710.
What a cool location for a cache! There are even steps down to sea level, although the clamber to the cache was interesting. As a previous finder remarked the cache was lower than expected, and I also found it there. It looks like there is not much holding it as per hint. Nice container, too. Great views from gz too. Overall a great experience, TFTC!!
We headed towards this cache, surprised by the fancy path down. We got as far as the middle bridge, before deciding that clambering over wet boulders in the rain was really not for a couple of geriatrics. We'll await a fine day to try again.
I had parked my snail shell up in the nearby NZMCA park and zoomed back in my cachemobile as all the parking areas for the caches were a tad small for my complete rig.
Went one way to the cache and came back a different way.
Cheers for the cache.

So much has changed through here after the earthquake including the iron gate. Luckily no traffic behind or on the opposite side of the road so I could safely go over to the parking spot. Down the strangely placed path and rock hopped over to GZ where there was no cache to be found in the places that matched the hint. Then I spotted a likely looking object below among the rocks. Took a fair bit of effort to open the rusted container but when I did there was a log. Yippee! Replaced as per hint. TFTC # 17,491
Woohoo a long weekend and a good excuse to get away ...I usually just drive through kaikoura but this time I've decided to stay for 3 nights on a caching mission...
Managed to knock off work early and beat the traffic and still have a bit of daylight..so dropped off my bags at the hotel and headed a bit further north...
Made that one harder than it should have been tftc

Staying in Kaikoura for Easter and decided to go collect a few caches on the road North toward Clarence River. What a great facility has been left from the road reconstruction for surfer access. Nice looking waves here today. Those surfers at Mangamaunu should have travelled 3km north for some surf instead of sitting around in flatness down there. TFTC.
A nice quick find thanks. First for the day, and I like the route I had to take to get to GZ.
Ms_KR and I had a weekend away up to Kaikoura. A lovey day for the drive home 30 degrees in the back country, so quite warm!
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Found with NZDi. We had a long weekend booked for last weekend, but Mrs Kiwimykl (aka NZDi) didn't feel too flash so we postponed it until this weekend. So Friday morning we packed the caravan (including MTBs) and headed south to do some geocaching.
Over the two days caching we manage to find 43 caches with only two DNFs, although we did manage to avenge three DNFs from a previous visit. Of the 43 finds, bumandworker was responsible for hiding 27 of them.
Today we are heading back to Blenheim and stopped here to get our 44th and only unfound cache on SH 1 between Blenheim and Kaikoura. This one was placed just after we made our last geocaching trip to Kaikoura, so this is the first opportunity to get it. On pulling up to the parking bay, I noted the cache was on the other side of the rail corridor which was well fenced off. However I noted a path to a gate and further investigation discovered a possible route to the cache which wouldn't risk a $10,000 fine. We were soon near GZ and a couple of options were presented to us as likely hides. Typically it was the second option that we tried that hid the cache. On opening the log, I saw we weren't the first visitors of the day, with Karma Reprint getting here before us.
A relatively QEF PnG.

This was an interesting area to visit although part was at the edge of Mrs SoBad's comfort zone. Luckily SoBad was happy to collect the cache and sign the log while she admired. We would never have found the gate without the cache and thank you for the explicit instructions about safe access. A favourite for the chance to admire some of the effort that has gone into the rebuilding. And we did understand the hint but only as the cache was being approached.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I didn't realise that my GPSr didn't have the latest download, so as we drove north, this cache didn't show up on the map and we drove past it. Luckily I spotted the name "Iron Gate" which rang a bell, so StreetWalkerNZ pulled over to park so we could sort out where the cache was. Had to rely on the cell phone as his GPSr was not turned on and it had trouble finding satellites (it took until Blenheim, and after numerous switching off and ons, for it to finally come right).
We did a U-turn (not much traffic at this early hour) and parked nearer the bridge. After unnecessarily crossing the road, we found the steps and realised where we should be. Luckily the cache was a quick find .
A most interesting spot, and nothing to indicate that this is here. Good detective work finding it. TFTC.

#19405. Overshot the parking (heading north) which meant we did a U turn and then parked facing the wrong way (it was still early, and turning round from our parking position was easy enough). Once we found the stairs it didn't take long to get to GZ and make a quick find. Great idea for a cache placement! TFTC.
A great place to stop and have a wander around .Saw a fossilized shell in a rock. Not too difficult to find the cache. TFTC
I noticed this cache had been published since I last passed here earlier in the month, so stopped here this morning on the way to Picton. I couldn’t interpret the meaning of the acronym in the hint, but it didn’t take very long to find the cache anyway. Signed log, TFTC.
(FTF). We stopped off here on our way to Blenheim. Access to this was interesting. A quick find once at the right level. TFTC.
