Logs
One final cache on the way back down from lunch at Mountain House Shelter. TFTC
Im out on an early start after staying at Holdsworth Lodge last night with friends. Found after a short search (its early!) TFTC KiwiDragonfly
Thanks for the cool cache and heart-warming story of Zeb Hope he's still with you 10years on... This was a cool spot and I like this style of cache. All nice and dry inside and no muggles while I was at GZ.Now to continue my climb to Powell for a peaceful night TNLNSL +FP
My first geocache to have cause me bodily harm. WATCH OUT FOR THE EXPOSED NAILS! Thankfully a friendly tramper was able to patch me up. Geohound loved the journey here.
My first solo tramp from Holdsworth to Totara Flats and back. This was the first cache I found. Nice hide, everything in order. TFTC
*Catching up on some loooooong overdue logs*
A call was put out in our puzzling group that there was going to be a hike into Totara Flats to hunt down T-2, as it is one of the oldest caches in the North Island, therefore required for the challenge cache GC325CX Old School Challenge. The group of willing participants are myself, Itchyfeet2020, Matagouri, TwigNZ, and The Seagnoid, so we are signing logs as LIMiTS.
A great time had by all, and some great caching along the way.
Thanks for the cache.

At last - I have been wanting to do this trip since... since... well, since I was in nappies, probably. I have been up Holdsworth a number of times, and down to Totara Flats once, but never out the Waiohine. So armed with the intent of finding T2, one of New Zealand's oldest caches, I set of with a bunch of geocaching friends after having dropped a car off at the Waiohine road end. It was grey and overcast, perfect tramping weather apart from a little drizzle, but we only really needed the raincoats once. Everything looked all new and fresh. Awesome.
Love the story about your dog. Dropped in a TB.
Log signed as Limits for LL113, Itchyfeet2020, Matagouri, TwigNZ and the Seagnoid. And yes, there were limits to our caching today. Today we decided to limit it to New Zealand!
Fourteen caches between Holdsworth road end to Totara Flats hut, and another fifteen tomorrow, between Totara Flats and the Waiohine road end.

The time has finally come for our much talked about T2 adventure - a very worthy objective. The plan was in from Holdsworth and out at Waiohine with Totara Flats Hut and all the lovely caches inbetween. What was also inbetween was a lot more leg jarring ups and downs than I expected! Great to have a pause here. Fun hint and lovely tribute to your geohound, thank you for the cache. All logs signed as LIMITS for LL113, Itchyfeet2020, matagouri, TwigNZ and the Seagnoid.
A group weekend in the eastern Tararuas, going from Holdsworth Lodge to the Waiohine campground via Gentle Annie Saddle and Totara Flats hut, with T-2 as our major target. The group includes LL113, Itchyfeet2020, myself, TwigNZ, and The Seagnoid, so we are signing logs as LIMiTS.
Starting to go up the hill properly now. Hunted in the wrong place for this one, until Itchyfeet2020 read the hint. Quick find after that. All good in the cache, tftc!

#12,474. I was planning on climbing Mt Holdsworth this weekend and this was the day with the best forecast. Very warm and sunny on the flats. My first stop was to avenge this DNF. I got fixated on one interpretation of the clue last time. But after reading logs and thinking about it more I decided to look in a different spot this time. So poked my head under and it wasn't visible that way or the other way. Oh no. Then I looked up and it was about 5cm from my face, not visible previously through my cap. Looked pretty obvious this time. Signed the log and replaced just before muggles wandered up the path. Thanks KiwiDragonfly for hiding it here.
Went for a walk up to Powell hut with KiwiKatieG, RedPanda NZ and DJB. Nice and easy find along the track up to the hut. Also nice to break up the journey a wee bit finding caches along the way. TFTC
Tftc out doing a loop up to mountain house shelter then down to Atiwhakatu hut for the night. Nice walk with victoriousone and mumandme.
Found while out tramping in the area. With Kimmy+co and Mumandme. Enjoying my first trip in the Tararuas although slightly abridged due to the weather. TFTC
The first cache of the day, which took a while to spot.
The hint tune was whirring around in my head, but no amounts of going over it would remind me what that next line was. Its only now as i write this log that it has suddenly come to me - now its probably stuck there for the rest of the day
However, back at GZ, I eventually managed to spot it anyway - yip the hints spot on!
Thanks for putting this here. We love exploring this area.

The first find for Miss Eight and me on our two-night tramp around the Holdsworth-Jumbo loop. Found just where the hint said, after a quick search. Thanks!
Stopped here on the way up the hill. I looked everywhere for it. Just could not see it. TeamDJ* clearly had better searching ability than me as they located it on the same day. So will just have to put on my superpower glasses next time and look more carefully. My only DNF today.
Today some friends and I are heading up to Powell Hut, hoping that tomorrow the weather will be good enough for us to make the crossing over to Jumbo. I've only ever been as far as Mountain House Shelter before, so I'm looking forward to this trip.
In the meantime it also gives me a chance to look for some caches that have been placed since I was last here almost 2 years ago, as well as try to avenge some previous DNF's from that trip.
This was the first cache I stopped to look for today. Initially the Hint didn't really help, but there seemed to be an obvious choice for where the cache would be and sure enough it was there. I can report that the cache is in great condition, and it was soon sporting my name in the log which is more than can be said for the claimed 'find' dated November 7th.
Thanks for placing this cache

Sorry for the delay in logging. I’m in the process of finally logging all my old finds.

Took a little while to locate this one. Arrived at gz but had to wait for a group to walk through. Then the gps died so had to replace the batteries by which time another group was coming through. Guessed where it might be so got in quick while the coast was clear. Good to find, write log and return without any muggles. tftc
FT(DN)F!
This was a multi-task exercise. After mowing the lawn I just felt like going for a bike ride and at the near end of the Gentle Annie track there were two targets, the first being to find and log this cache.
The second: back in January, I helped my grandson place his first cache on this track. (It was GC9534V). Unfortunately, the reviewer rejected it to begin with, and disheartened, my grandson archived it.
Fast-forward a few weeks. I decided to submit it in my own name but when I did so, it turned out that this cache was too close so the plan today was to log a find here and find out just how much too close it was, and retrieve the cache we placed in January. It turned out that the separation was only 132m and it was also good that I retrieved the unpublished cache because I'd forgotten that I'd put a travel bug in it.
Anyway ... my GPSr had me at 2m and, knowing the song connected to the hint, the conclusion seemed appropriate to the structure (and also the cache name), but I still couldn't find anything. Even a promising geotrail didn't yield success so I'm thinking (hoping) it could have been geo-blindness. Another attempt is warranted when there's also time to try and bag the other two new ones nearby.
I left home at 5:30pm and got back just after 8 o'clock taking an hour each way on the bike and clocking up 48km, putting the bike lights to the test for the first time for half the return jouney.
So, still a good day: mowed the grass, had a great ride, checked the bike lights (passed with flying colours), retrieved my cache and TB; just failed to find this target cache. Tomorrow's another day! Thanks anyway KiwiDragonfly.

Found at the end of a day spent exploring some of the wonderful old trails off the well known Holdsworth tracks. I clowned around for a while and then my tramping buddy spotted it. A great hint - now I get it! A favourite, this is well done, thanks KiwiDragonfly. Thanks for your moving story about Zeb.
Great write up!
I look forward to getting back to Mt Holdsworth to find this cache (and hopefully avenge a few other blue frowns in this area) at some stage.
Give Zeb a pat from me
