It feels good to make a find on a Great Walk. On the Routeburn last month, I couldn't make any finds as a result of there being no mobile coverage and haven't not brought enough info with me, but this time I was prepared. I recognized the boulder straight away. TFTC

We are here spending 4 days walking the track from Hopuruahine Landing to Onepoto Bay, what a beautiful place. This cache was a good place to stop and have a break to take out mind off the climb to come TFTC

Have been planning a trip for these 3 new caches hoping that the FTF was still available. Last week was raining and I didn’t fancy an 8 hour walk in the wet. Today’s forecast was good and I was free for a few days so no more planning, just do it. Left at 8 am for the 2 hour drive to Onepoto. Parked up and final checks. Phone, back up battery, PLB as I’m hiking along, one nights hut pass plus food and water. Hiked up to Panekiri hut which took 3 hours and decided to do the Earthcache as a bonus. Then on to this cache. Love this part of the woods with all the hairy/bearded trees. Makes me think of a hobbit forest. Pleased to quickly identify the cache and find a blank sheet. Headed on down to Waiopaoa hut. Arrived about 4pm and decided I had enough daylight to go for the next two caches. Arrived at “Lunchtime at Waikaremoana” at dinner. Headed back to Korokoro waterfall for the final cache which was the only one that took me a while to find.
It’s been a long day. About 9 hours of walking with sore legs but no blisters yet! Stopped for a wonderful swim to refresh and then back to Waiopaoa hut just as it was getting dark. Time for a good sleep. Back over Panekiri bluff tomorrow then home Thanks 8manafter for the adventure and smileys. {FTF}
