We are on a caravanning trip around Australia and after doing the steam train trip in the morning we decided to walk up Devil's Peak.No switchbacks on this trail, just straight up. Amazing views from the top. Definitely tests your nerves on the edge. Thanks for the cache

Amazing!!

Found with richlink during our annual caravan geocaching trip. We've had our eye on this cache for a few years now, and today, it was a now-or-never moment. Quite the challenge to get to GZ, but we made it and left our mark. Thanks, for the challenge TeamGeoCoopers, a fave point from us.

Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on a SA caching foray. This cache has been in our to do list for a very long time so decided today was the day to do it. One muggle in the car park when we arrived. Wasnt going to do the nerve test but turned around and went back to hang one leg over - boy the adrenaline sure kicked in. Left our mark on the rock wall and in the visitors book. An hour and a half return - ok for two 70 year olds. Thanks for the rush.

With a few days in the Port Augusta area, we decided to target a couple of good walks to get some exercise before we begin the drive across the Nullarbor. This one was a priority, and we had seen that little mountain (Devils Peak) from the road well prior to driving to the parking location. It was a perfect day for the walk to the top, quite cool and with a bit of a cool breeze. The trail was a very quiet today, and only when we were almost back down did we come across another small group of walkers. From the start of the Trail to the top, we were impressed with the markers and the quality of the Trail. Some beautiful birds along the way and certainly some great gumtrees and also a couple of groves of native Cypress Pines. At the top, we first spotted the visitors logbook and have added our name to that. It seems that this Trail is very popular with walkers, given the number of signatures in the book. Less so perhaps for geocachers. It was then on to the nerve test, and we stuck our head through to have a look around. Absolutely spectacular views from both sides of the top of this rock. We add a FP for this adventure, we had been looking forward to this walk for sometime. Its also great to see this really old hide still enabled and happy. Thanks TeamGeoCoopers for highlighting and showing us this beautiful area through Geocaching. Domsky

Amazing hike!! Driving up to flinders for a lil getaway and decided to give Devils Peak a visit. The nerve test is actually pretty cool, theres a few friends (Lizards) up there to share the view. Safe hiking. TFTC

13-Dec-22
Beautiful spot, the hike today was a bit hard in the heat but the views were so worth it.

24-Sep-22
I figured this would be a good one to try around sunset.
Took me 22 minutes to get up to the top, certainly quite steep. Some fun little sections on the rocks.
30 minutes to take in the views at the top as I watched the sun go down.
I don't have nerves compatible with nerve tests.
A nice sunset was had, though it was a bit hazy down low around the horizon so the colour sort of ebbed out at the end.

Then it was a quick descent back to the car and a slow drive back into town - there were a few roos around.

09-Jul-22
This one has been on our radar for some time and with the placement date matching a month we needed for our Jasmir calendar there was all the more reason to 'find' this one.

With a few weekend for both Mr and Mrs Duck, it was decided to hike to this cache, camp in Quorn Saturday night and grab a few other caches around the area.

We arrived at the base of this one with recent work undertaken on the easier part of the track. New gravel and rolled flat made the first bit nice and easy. The rest of the hike/climb, well, it was dry at least. Regular stops to take photos and take in the view (aka a break to catch breath) saw plenty of great sights and appreciation of this hike. We picked our way to the visitors log book and then ventured to the summit. Mrs Duck took on the nerve test and nailed the shimmy up and down to get here.

The views from the top were amazing, worthy of a favourite for sure. A 20minute break for a snack, photos etc and then it was back to the car. Down was so much easier. 2hr return and it was on to the next cache. TFTC

Just had a look at this puzzle and noticed the link to the related web page. I get the message that the page no longer exists Sad

06-Jun-22
Not sure on Blackadders post about this being a puzzle and a linked related web page not working. It's a walk up a steep trail to a look out? Have messaged them for more information.

11-Jun-21
Stayed in Quorn last night on the trip home from a fortnight around the Gammons.
Thought we'd do a short walk before the day's drive.
Well....
What a heart-starter. Got to the top in an hour. Did not try the nerve test - at 64 we no nerves that good to test.
Fantastic climb & views well worth the effort.

19-Apr-21
Day five of a camping trip testing out my new swag. Grabbing a few caches on the way home to Adelaide from the Flinders Rangers.

I was lucky with beautiful sunny weather but it wasn’t too hot. I enjoyed the hike up. A little bit of scrambling toward the top but nothing too bad. It was more of a test of my fitness than anything else.

But reaching the top plateau did require a bit of dexterity and certainly my long arms and legs helped me get up.

Stunning views all around. I went down to the nerve tester. I leaner over and had a good look but wasn’t quite prepared to dangle my legs over.

Seriously good exercise and really good fun. Thank you for showing me absolutely stunning location.

A big favourite point from me.

Thanks for the cache Team GeoCoopers.

Mattycat had this one in site to complete before heading over to a nearby cito. After intence walk we made to top signed log or rock, then was the grooling decend back to bottom after a few photos of course. See Mattycat log for photos.

Found with e.gregory1 on our way back from the Quorn June Long Weekend Event. Thanks for the cache Team Geocoopers!

10-Jun-19
Finally managed to visit this one after attending the June Long Weekend event at Quorn with FeatherWaite.

Its quite a climb, particularly with a cold. No nerve test for me though!

Thanks Team GeoCoopers for the cache.

10-Jun-19
Gone caching at the end of the June Long Weekend with JEM, JacktheMonkey, and Sebastbat.
Saw a hill, thought we'd climb it. What a devilish hill this is. Not quite in peak condition, so a good heart starter for the day.
Special equipment caches should be T5 - I'd claim this one as I needed my blood pressure tablets to make it up ! Surprised[:o)]Twisted
tftc TeamGeoCoopers , fav for the views!

My target cache for the day. AWESOME LOCATION

14-Jul-18
Found at 16:17 with Olga during a week looking around the Flinders Ranges.
Mr Uni has wanted to do this cache since we drove past about 15 years ago. We didn't have time to stop then, though I'm sure the kids would have loved it.

We didn't really have time to do it today either, but Medusa insisted. She said she wasn't going to do it, but would wait for me in the car. Then she thought she'd do the lower, easy part. In the end, she went all the way to the cache.

A great walk, and a great view. Thanks GeoCoopers.

This was out last find of 46 for the week.

Found It!
A short but steep walk up this hill with froghoppin and AnyMules. Great views from up top! Very windy though...
The 'visitors book' seems to have turned into a rock so I got a photo at the nerve test instead. It's a long drop to the bottom!

29-May-18
Been on our to do list for quite some time and with some willing walkers, Anymules and Laighside Legends we huffed and puffed our way up the hill to some awesome panoramas, with the wind whistling overhead we found the visitors book left our mark and made the easier trek back to the car for a well earned drink

Loved, loved, loved this place. Thanks for the good coords. Took on the nerve test. One of those places you want to tell others about, but not too many.

What a view from the top!! Did this walk with a friend from Port Augusta. Found the cache by chance. TFTC

27-Oct-16
Finished of work for the day, and time to tackle Quorny little Divel, nice drive to the gate the the track to the packing bay, passed a snake or two on the way, then the bush hike to to peak, no snake in sight, just as well. Great view can see the new solar tower looking toward Port Augusta. Cool

13-Jun-16
Wow, what a fantastic place. Having already been up Ediowie Gorge and Mt Abrupt in the weekend, this was a wonderful way to cap it all off. Great view, really interesting climb, and it wan't too long. Such a good value walk, would recommend this to anyone, who was careful around heights.

12-Jun-16
Sunrise on the peak. TFTC

29-Aug-15
After ‘conquering’ Mt Brown, the geoson and I still had plenty of energy left to tackle another summit.

Devils peak is an entirely different beast though. Where Mt Brown is long and gradual. Devil’s peak is short and steep.

Still it took us only 25 minutes to get to the top and wow what a wonderful location this is.
Fantastic big boulders and fantastic views.
I signed the visitors logbook and together we decided to have a look at the nerve test. That is quite an impressive drop! The perfect place for a traditional feet photo.

Thanks TGC for getting us to this awesome location

I hope you will allow us to log this cache - we actually ended up on South Peak, having walked up from the Devil's Peak B&B. There are other geocachers who have signed in the log book here - I guess it's all Devils Peak, just a different bit! Just as high and just as spectacular! We tried to get across to the actual Devils Peak, which stands in between North and South Peaks, but we were stopped by a massive crevasse! Fantastic walk/climb - would describe it as moderately difficult the way we went. Apart from the incredible scenery from the top, perhaps the highlight was watching the steam trains from the top - one coming from Quorn, and one coming from Pt Augusta, and meeting up at Woolshed Flat. From there they coupled up and the 2 engines hauled all the carriages back to Quorn. What a magnificent sight [^] This is a must do cache for anyone who loves the outback. Fav point from us.

21-Apr-14
We were staying at the B&B with mogni and brisal5 when a plan was hatched to fit in a climb of Devils Peak. It was a lot more difficult than I imagined, and at one point when we reached a spot where the track had collapsed I decided that I was not going to be able to keep going. Thankfully with a call that the log had been found I pushed myself that little more and finished the climb. Photos are attached to the log by brisal5.

This was a magnificent climb. Incredible views and a feeling of accomplishment when the summit was reached. It was our favourite past-time later in the day to stare at the peak from the Pichi Richi Train and wonder how we had managed to be up there only a few hours before.

Thank you TeamGeoCoopers for the wonderful experience.

21-Apr-14
Day 2 of Flinder's Ranges visit with mogni and Aussie M&M. Cool
We were staying at the B & B that this cache is on. Not only did we get permission the owner recommended we do this climb and gave us a laminated mud map of how to do it! We were booked on the Pichi Richi rail at 1030 so to give us time for this and quick shower we headed out at 6.30 a.m.
It proved to be quite a climb and in one particular place seemed improbable. But with many stops to admire the spectacular views.....okay to get our breath and rest our aching bodies Surprised we finally reached the peak after almost two hours. In the peak of physical condition we are not. Red Face but we made it and the views were spectacular. Smile Thanks teamGeocoopers Big Grin

21-Apr-14
In the southern Flinders with Aussie M & M and brisal5. Lucky for us we were staying at B & B, so this became a must do. It was definitely a challenge but we made it Smile lucky a cache can inspire me to climb a mountain Smile
Thanks

While checking the area looking for future caches to target we noticed this one. And realised we have been up there in the past and signed the visitor's book too. But at a time we were not concentrating on geocaching. I checked and found we visited in late 2013.
A very impressive place but despite the ensuing years Janet and I still remember very clearly how steep it was!
TFTC again TeamGeoCoopers Smile

Great climb, beautiful views, saw wedge tail eagle up close!!

If you keep walking past GZ there's a tall cairn & walkers log book. Kids (4&8) were amazing!! Now we just have to get down.

07-Apr-11
Have done this climb a number of times over the years. Certainly worth the effort. Not sure on the actual day we did the climb, but have just gotten into GC recently.

11-Sep-10
Quite a climb to the top, but worth the effort. The vegetation is showing the benefits of a good winter with plenty of plants flowering, and a lot of new growth. I've never seen the lands around here so green - it's almost like being in the Adealide Hills!

This climb has been on the radar for some time but time, or lack of transport to the parking area, has always meant 'it can wait for another day'. (A week after my visit a fellow cyclist ran from Quorn to the car park and then scaled the peak, then ran back to Quorn. This is after completeing a tough (head winds) 66km ride from Hawker. Several other cyclists took the easier option of cycling to the car park.)

The views from the top are amazing.

21-Jun-10
Great climb, done it four times over the last twenty years, enjoyed the sumit for at least an hour this day.

23-Aug-09
A beautiful windy blue sky day. Perfect for great views from the top.

20-Aug-09
I had been working on a new house just out of Quorn all week, so with this hill rarely out of my sight, thought I'd better go log a cache.

Met another climber at the car park who had just descended. We had a short chat, and I discovered this was his 3rd climb up Devil's Peak. He considered it too windy today to make the extra effort to get to the summit, but as this was only my first (and possibly last) visit, I wasn't going to let a little breeze deter me.

I took my time in the later stages, stopping often to catch my breath, take in the emerging views over Richman Valley, and sip at the all too small amount of water I brought with me. Felt a lovely cool breeze as I approached the crevasse that allows the first glimpse down into Pichi Richi Pass. Continued on into the Cranny and sat for a while, reading the visitor book, before continuing to the top. I don't think I can add any more than what's already been written by previous cachers comments below.

Well, the wind on the final ascent up the rock face to the top was enough for me to tie my hat on a bit better, but not enough to keep me from reaching the very top.

Thanks GeoCoopers.

21-Jun-09
Visited again this year for a nice climb to the top... very good weather for it! I even risked the Nerve test Smile

21-Jun-09
This is a very nice walk, with great views. Didn't talke or leave anything.

09-May-09

This one has been on the Astro radar since it came out. Today was the day.Razz

After Sundowners and Saltia down the road for a warm up, this was the icing on the cake.

One of the best views I have seen in Australia. And I have been to a lot of places in Australia.

The climb is fair - no need to rush as there are heaps of camera opportunities on the way up. The track is well sign posted so I don't think I even turned on the GPS unit - even for the cache. Now that is something these days!

I'll let the pictures here do the talking.

Thanx to Team GeoCoopers. Oh, and as I was chatting to Mr J GeoCooper on the phone, I was informed of the new BabygeoCooper. Congrats. What a spot to be shocked! Just as well I was not right on the edge. I was a couple of metres away!! Well done guys [^][^][^] Clear skies! Smile

17-Aug-08
What can I say about this one without resorting to a bunch of cliché adjectives?
Stunning, awesome, fantastic, breathtaking, WOW! I can see why Geocoopers initially wanted to share it with everyone. This rates as one of the most stunning vistas I have seen in Australia. A crystal clear winter’s day with big, fluffy cumulous clouds dotting the azure sky, really showed the Flinders Ranges in all their glory. Oil painting stuff [^]. This now takes the mantle of ‘my favourite cache’ [^]. Thanks for bringing me here (finally) Geocoopers Big Grin

09-Jun-08
Found with k8eus, Fullarton Venturer Unit and Roxby Downs Venturer Unit.

With the rain up in Quorn this weekend, we didn't get to keep to our hike plan.... but decided that this morning was dry enough to head up Devil's Peak. We did make it to the top without any problems, and it wasn't even that misty!

Making it out of the car park was another matter entirely... the road was rather muddy and our cars did get bogged but a few pushes got us through it. I guess we should pay more attention to the signs that say "Dry Weather Road Only" next time...

Yay I made it, spent longer up the top than the climb, Im sure I know every concievable crack and crevace intamately looking for that elusive "Blue Bag" it's now a black bag inside a white one.....But alas a find after all, PS: If your eva on top of a mounatain looking for a cache container and all the cachers you know are out and about, Although the reception is really good, DONT bother calling a relative too decipher the groundspeak site for you, It's really not worth it Big Grin No wonder there called muggles......

20-Oct-07
Scrambled to the top on a warm day. I was supprised to find that 4 other groups of muggles had signed the log before me this day. Cheers from the Posspet Boys

19-Jul-07
This was the highlight of our day, the climb was quite demanding for the unfit and overweight, but the views were incredible. Unfortunately I took a camera with a flat battery all that way up there!!! We then had awful trouble 'finding' the cache - what idiots, we wrote in it, read it, commented on it then when we got back to the car read the clues!!!! At least I can log 'Found It'!!

07-Jun-07
Last time I climbed this devil of a hill was in 1986!
What fun it was to scramble up there again Big Grin
The views were as spectacular as I remember them and the fun to be had mucking around at the summit was just as exciting [^]
The nerve test was also just as I remember [:o]
Too much fun. The log book is presently in a black bag in a white bubble wrap bag Big Grin

Reckon I can claim this one! Knew there was a “cache†(??) up here somewhere but didn’t bring GPS or a print out of the listing… DOH!!!
I have been up here about ten times over the last few years and have walked all over the top and almost all of the "high areas". Yes I did write in the new book.
I keep considering doing some rock climbing up here but for what climbing is here its not really worth carrying all the gear up.
(Most of the climbs are down the western side if you want to look for them)
Note: there is another log book on the southern summit and apparently there is one on the northern summit too…
There is also a southern Track down off the southern peak back to the car park (steep and hard to follow)

15-Oct-05
We had arrived in Quorn a little earlier than expected. Even a coffee at the Quandong cafe was not going to take all the afternoon before we needed to set up camp so we went out to the peak. The climb took us about half hour with an overcast sky. We had just arrived at the top and the train from Quorn was heading down the range so we got some pics. The logbook is in the white bag in a black bag now.

Took the extra challenge and as I had my sunglasses in my pocket and I didn't get of my belly they now sit skew-iff on my head.

Went over the other side of the rock where we felt a little safer and with a light sprinkling of rain and no flies (at last) we wiled away the afternoon.

Thanks

Climbed by Radioactive ham and Josie. Stood on the very top.
The best view of the area could see port Augusta easily.

Spent an hour looking for the cache 'cause I didnt bring the PDA up with me!!.

The log is now in a white bag.

Thanks to the GeoCoopers.

Looked at this area lots of times in the past as I drove by and often thought I would like to climb that. Thanks for a good reason to! This was the last for the day and a bit of a race against the sun. Walked in, signed official log and back to car in 50 min. with a lot of sweating! Really enjoyed the walk and the views. Cheers.

30-Apr-05
This such a nice walk. At the top the views are great but do not go too close to the edge.

When signing the log I noticed that this area gets visitors all through the supposedly closed season. The only people not visiting it is the Geocaches. I always wonder why the local councils make these rules and do not enforce them.

cheers

09-Oct-04
Well we did this one this morning. We had nearly done it a few times over the last couple of years - and just to make it a bit easier for anyone else you get to the track via the Richmond Valley Road. We headed off early as it is quite hot today. It was a wonderful climb, a bit steep but the track is clearly marked which helps. We signed the Visitors Book and Bruce took lots of spectacular pictures from up top which we will post later. Thanks Geocoopers for encouraging us to do this climb.

Woke up at the crack of dawn and headed out for the climb. Reached the base in fog, and started climbing, to come out in sunshine about half way up. But at the top the fog came in again, making for a very eerie and scary experience for a couple of our group. Stayed there for an hour and watched as the fog gradually cleared away.
This place appears to attract a lot of visitors, but not too many geocachers. It is a very spectacular spot and was the highlight of our long weekend. Thanks Team GeoCoopers.

Always the bridemaids. We will have to try harder next time.

With some local knowledge we initially set out from near the Willows. The landowner quickly shoed us away and sent us around the other side of the peak.

Nice climb up to the summit and what a view. We had some fun with the local wild life then filled out the book. New book guys. Less than a month old. No numbers this time. I guess we will have to find another way to log a find.

Next it was the nerve test. Freddo crawled to the edge that the dammed tadlet was dancing on. Young and stupid? Maybe old and dull!

19-Oct-02
Quick run up to the top and soon down to business. Not much of a nerve test, the one in the Grampians is much more fun. Climbed above the nerve test for a bit of a look. Everything is always so hazy in SA.
