This double-wide quanset hut houses our current Seabee Mueseum on the Port Hueneme, CA Seabee Base... There is a sign along the front of the building that proclaims this as well. Coords were taken at the base of one of our mascot "statues" near the street entrance to this building.

Pictures have been taken, but will be uploaded as soon as I can get into my work computer (home computer not recognizing the mini disc from the camera, but the work one does)... Thanks for the scavenger hunt through my base!!

I found this quonset hut while searching for a nearby multi-cache. I didn't find the multi but didn't leave empty handed either. This hut is used by Protech Equipment Svc Inc as a garage.

At first I thought it was one of the 20'x48' models, but after looking at it through Google Earth, I saw that it has more of a square footprint. Maybe this one was manufactured post-WWII. Thanks!

Another neat little cache. These buildings are everywhere around home. These huts are being used for a small local construction shop in Independence, Mo. TFTC

This hut is located on Hwy.309 between Ozark and Paris, Arkansas. Bet I've passed this hut a million times over the years and it is still fascinating to me. It was used for many years as storage for local farmers and still ahs grain silos and equipment in back of it. Now it is just used for personal storage. Not sure how long it's been here, but I do know it's been there more than 30 years.

Thanks for the cache.

These quonset huts, now empty, in North Bay, Ontario, may not be much longer for this world. The land they're on is set for redevelopment in the near future.

I found this Nissan hut in Neerim Junction, Victoria, Australia. This one is now used as a large garage for a truck. When I started work in 1969, I was sent to the telecommunications training school at Ballarat. The training school consisted of around 20 small Nissan huts--they were hot in Summer, and cold in Winter. The other interesting thing about those huts is that they were originally used as the athlete's village for the 1956 Olympic Games--the rowing events were held on Lake Wendouree in Ballarat. Thanks to LarsThorwald for the cache.

Vorticity was the mastermind behind our 100 in one day cache-a-thon. You need several ingredients for snagging 100 in a day --- summer solstice, a better understanding of stream crossings, no flat tires, and no tree caches.
We had a blast though and got 59 for the day. Hey it beats sitting on the couch. If you ain’t living…you’re dieing!

I found this building located in Buffalo, ND. It appears to be abandoned and it had no markings on the outside wall to state what it was used for in the past. It is located right next to an oil company, so I would imagine it was probably used for storage at one point.

This one is located on Highway 17 between Dryden and Thunder Bay Ontario at a camp ground called Maki Bay. We were stopped for road work when I saw it out the window, so I am only guessing that it is being used by the camp ground owners to store the support materials for their enterprise. After WWII, Syracuse University, like most US colleges was met by the returning vet with a new wedding ring on his finger and a new GI Bill in his pocket. I remember the many quonset huts that sprouted on Skytop Hill. They were a quick temperary solution to this problem. Today they have long since been replaced by permanent housing.
Where did the old quoset's go???
I remember where I thought I saw some many years ago. Took a quick drive out there & did find one. It looked like it may be a survivor of that long ago time.
It was out to Onondaga Lake Park at the home of the Syracuse University Crew. I imagine it is used for storage for those many shells.

23-Sep-05
Found this "set" of Quonset Huts while searching another cache today. There are a total of 12 huts in this immediate area that date back to WWII and were part of the Lend-Lease Program with the former USSR.

Ladd Field, now Fort Wainwright, was one of the stops along the way.

Currently these quonset huts appear to be used for miscellaneous storage as weren't really able to get a close up look through the window. I was also unable to get pictures of the actual numbers assigned to each hut as a truck was approaching.

Lake Deli Mart
Seattle, Washington

There are still many Quonset huts left in the Seattle area, but I wasn't sure where an unclaimed one might be that wouldn't be too far from my house. I was quite excited when I coincidentally spotted this one today on one of my last locationless cache romps (sigh) through town. I'm sure I'll always notice these historical buildings from now on. Thanks so much for maintaining this interesting locationless cache opportunity for the past three years.
