Eddyville, Iowa
This quarry is located west of Eddyville, Iowa. I come down here once a month for a Girl Scout leader's meeting and always pass by. Decided today was the day to stop. The quarry is Douds Stone, Inc.

No sign of any big pit. Just the front gate and sign that says it is a quarry.

The Nicasio Rock quarry is near the geographic center of Marin County, just north of San Francisco. Although some have raised concerns about it, the quarry supplies rock and gravel to the many ranches in the rural part of the county.

This limestone quarry is located along Rt #66 in Washinton County, Maryland. I visited during a workday. I was given a yellow hardhat and directed to the northern rim overlooking the pit. I grew up next to a limestone quarry and visiting this one brought back many memories. Thanks for the fun. Pix to follow

We found the Stony Point Rock Quarry in Cotati, California. For those of you familiar with Sonoma County, it's just north of the Washoe House- the oldest roadhouse in the state- on Stony Point Road). It's a small quarry that's been in operation since the "early part of the last century" (according to a trade article in Pit&Quarry). Besides the "normal" quarry products, this quarry has a unique venture with Soils Plus to create lanscaping products.

This was fun to discover. Thanks for the find!

Most of the quarries around Hurricane, Utah, extract sand, gravel, and volcanic cinders. This quarry has been around for at least 30 years, and while the excavation has slowed down, it is still in operation. It is owned by one of the largest contractors in this area.

This quarry is located close to Columbia Missouri. I couldn't get any closer because I was afraid of trespassing but I got a clear shot of the sign and a hint of what was going on inside or outside rather. Thanks!

This is a huge and still expanding gravel quary which is worked by huge dump trucks which you can just make out on the far side of the pit.

This is the local quarry in Wagga Wagga, NSW Australia.
No access to the big hole, but got it at the front gate anyway.
It is now owned by a large company in the UK who are into heavy building materials.

I visited Mt Leura in Camperdown, Victoria, Australia to log the trig point (benchmark to our US friends) for another locationless cache: "#51 Great Southern Land: (5) That's the Trig." (GC5601). I noticed this working quarry from atop the mountain. I took the picture of the quarry from Mt Leura, then drove to the entrance to take a picture of the quarry sign with my GPSr in picture. I have also included a detail of the quarry picture that shows the machinery used to work it. The coordinates above are for the entrance sign.

The road to the quarry that I've selected was closed due to recent flooding having eroded the appoaches to a bridge. I could get to an area where they store and sort the stone, so have given this as my waypoint. Unfortunately it was starting to get dark when I took the pic.
