Day 10 of our Enzed adventures with Robmc. We arrived in Dunedin yesterday and today we hired bikes to ride the Otago Vine including a ferry ride across the bay.We managed to collect a lot of the puzzles we had prepared for and I think we only had a couple of DNFs. It rained, the sun shone, the wind blew, it was calm - the whole gamut really. Thanks for contributing to the fun debsnz

Day ten of our epic New Zealand Adventure with The Morris. We have at last arrived in Dunedin. We spent today riding the Otago Vine clockwise, collecting caches as we came across them.Stopped at Port Chalmers for lunch then caught the ferry to Portobello.Mostly a nice day except for a bit of rain just out of Portobello (but we soon dried off). This was a very interesting story that I wouldn't have heard but for this cache. Thanks, Robmc.

08-Mar-23
I let kiwichris scrabble on the ground for the cache while i looked for my pen for signing the log book. Found while on a wednesday walk around Port Chalmers with our group.

08-Mar-23
While out with the Wednesday Walkers we passed this and daywalk said that there was an interesting plaque and cache along a side street and asked whether any os were yet to find it. Katie-w and I said that we hadn't, so we diverted to the plaque, read it with interest and then looked for the cache. A previous finder had left it a bit too visible so, after signing the log, I placed a few extra stones to hide it better.

TNLN. TFTC.

Just one more geocache for Sunflowers26 and I to find to clear out Port Chalmers proper on our little hunt for the day. We got to the site, and in fact pulled up right in front of it, and had the cache in hand in seconds. Honestly reminded me of some of my earlier days of geocaching. Cheers!

We are out caching while in Dunedin for a BMX event. Loving exploring Port Chalmers. Th ask for this cache - nice easy find and more history to discover. Log was damp and sadly precious cacher/s and screwed it up. We re-rolled and put it back as nicely as possible. TFTC .

TFTC great piece of history

11-Oct-22
Thanks for bringing me to this spot. I've been to Port Chalmers countless times, but had no idea about this plaque. Nice quick find. Poured out the water that was in the cache, and signed the damp log that was inside a plastic bag. Then drove down the narrow road with lovely views, but wouldn't want to drive around here at night, as there didn't seem to be any barriers to driving off the cliff if I steered the wrong way. TFTC.

Just hanging out in the area. Thank you for showing me the memorial. TFTC!!

A noice small premium only cache published in Port Chalmers. This town is the No.1's favourite lunch time getaway so caching business brought us back to town to clean up some trads. Rocked up to the sharp corner and managed a park on the shoulder ok. Some branches have been cleaned up and thought oh dear! cache gonnee?? Nope, bright red plastic shone through to have the cache in hand quickly. A neat little hole just needing some manipulation to remove box from hide. A couple of paper log pages got some signatures added and popped back in a baggy. Returned the camo trying to keep this one hidden and carried on down and up the side streets to swing around and leave town. Lest we forgot; this is my 159th premium only cache logged as a basic member. *Labyrinth **June** Escaping the [S](https://www.geocaching.com/souvenir/?guid=01dbda68-1e9a-40c8-b311-5df5afbee8a0)wamp souvenir nailed. Cache 1052 Day 2 of my trip to Dunedin to fill in some of my “hidden dates” grid. After dropping Wombats_4 back to her car so she could make her way home I continued my way around the back streets and hills of Dunedin, was a freezing cold morning after a decent frost last night but that wasn’t going to deter me on my hunt for the precious pieces of plastic treasure. Nice quick easy find in the perfect position to to read the plaque and not look suspicious as muggles we’re having a nice night stroll, cache in good shape T4TC

18-Jun-22
Quick detour to pick up this one. Nice view but a narrow street for the van. Also steep parking, not the time to discover your handbrake needs adjusting.

30-May-22
Cute wee street , wouldn’t have noticed it except for stopping for the cache. Enjoyed my trip up here today . Great views but a little windy for too long out of the car.
Thanks DebsNZ for the interesting placement . And bringing my up here.

Stopped by on the way out to Aromoana for a walk. Took longer than it should have because I was distracted by all the tree branches against the plaque. Anyway I eventually found it tucked away in a logical place that I had only given a glance at first. Thanks for bringing me here.

To see a plaque like this was quite a surprise!, a piece of history that I would never have known if the placement had not been made.

Our first bike ride of the year! Since the cloud was still staying determinedly low on the hills even after lunch, we headed for Port Chalmers. After the up-and-down of the old back road, a little bit more uphill to reach this cache. I'd heard the story, but have never been along this road before - thank you for showing it to us!

There is a memorial to Campbell Buchanan on the family grave in the new Port Chalmers cemetery (see photo in Gregor Campbell's blog) but his body is buried in New Caledonia.

We were out in Port Chalmers working through the adventure lab, and stopped for this cache. The title comes from on of my favourite hymns…….There has been a lot of tree felling around the plaque, thankfully the cache is still in place. Found with Beakface .Thanks Debsnz.

Who knew this was here? I was aware of the naval action mentioned but not this item. The official hymn of the Royal Navy, I believe, and possibly other navies (including New Zealand?) Was this performed at Prince Phillip's funeral earlier this year? The cache was highly visible as we walked up. Unfortunately, the red clips (first of those colour I've seen on a snaplock) really stand out compared to the usual blue. Hopefully we re-hid a bit more inconspicuously. Is it no longer necessary to date a cache log? A couple of days ago I found over a dozen on the Taieri that had not been dated by the previous finder (someone who should have known better too) and the previous finder of this hadn't dated either. TFTC.
