Logs
This cache was the most difficult of the islands treasures because of the dive bombing gulls. Did the legals and replaced as found. TFTCM Cheers dkmacca
Attempted but nope! They werent happy about us walking past the fence. Another time!
Found with Gazania Rigens, as per her log.Though the gulls are nesting and did prove vociferous as I walked up the path to retrieve (and then to replace) the cache, they were full of sound and fury, signifying nothing as the bard put it.I dont think I would have been so nonchalant had they been European gulls that are (mostly) about 2 or 3 times the size of these elegant little creatures and known to press home attacks with more vigour! The cache was still safe from guano fortunately, though there cannot be any guarantee of how long that may remain the case
Zouave volunteered to retrieve this cache. The gulls weren't happy, but they did not attack, just made a lot of noise. TFTC!
#24900. Our first find on Cockatoo Island (and for this stay in Sydney). Good to find a number in this series while here. I was glad we didn't have to go far past the sign warning that nesting gulls might dive bomb people venturing past the sign. We didn't get dive bombed, but the gulls made a hell of a racket. It was good to make a quick find and then beat a hasty retreat. TFTC.
StreetWalkerNZ and I arrived in Sydney last night, and the plan was to visit Cockatoo Island this trip. The forecast was for warm weather so we decided to head out after breakfast while it was still cool.We just managed to catch the 8:45am ferry by the skin of our teeth. There weren't many people getting off at the island so we had the place to ourselves for nearly an hour. There were rows of tents between us and this cache, and we had to retreat from the direct path as there was a sign before the first tent asking people not to use this path, in consideration of the campers. Despite seeing no occupants, we complied. Then there was another sign closer to GZ about nesting gulls and to be wary of them swooping. Luckily the hint made for a quick find, as the gulls seemed a bit agitated, and after replacing the cache, we quickly left. TFTC.
Why is it called cockatoo island when there are so many seagulls? Great spot, so beautiful l!
We were too scared of the seagulls! It was their breeding season so we couldn't get close enough.
TFTC and a nice find on a beautiful sunny day. The views from all the caches on the island are amazing. Ive loved exploring this island and finding caches. Found with Goldberry17 and the CO.
Found today on a great geocaching day on Cockatoo Island with Calypso62 & techsavvy9. TFTC!
Coordinates changed from:S 33 50.796 E 151 10.164Coordinates changed to:S 33 50.777 E 151 10.223Distance from original: 319.8 feet or 97.5 meters.This is a temporary GZ while the seagull nesting season is in progress.
The cache has been moved away from the nesting seagulls. Coordinates have been updated and the hint changed to suit the new location.
Thanks for the cache - I nice easy find - was very clever. We have loved exploring the island. Travelling from the U.K. jjjss
Wouldnt come get this one if you have a phobia of birds. Other than that, great hiding spot!
Bear & bee bear Seagull central ! Great little cache , now to wash my hands haha TFTC
Its been a while, decided to venture out while the sun is shining. Find #360 @3.06pm, SLRC as found. TFTC.Really enjoyed my visit to Cockatoo Island, interesting place and great views.
After a rainy start to the day, the afternoon produced glorious sunshine which was perfect for our trip to Cockatoo Island. We caught the ferry from Barangaroo & were soon on the island. After finding the caches in the prison, I made my way to this one next. As I approached GZ, I guessed how this would be hidden but after searching for a few minutes I checked the hint, which seemed to confirm this initially. However, despite the good coordinates, the cache is not hidden as described. But I was soon signing the logsheet before replacing everything as found.Found at 15:22Cache #10482TFTC TFTC_Sydney
I am finally logging a number of caches I had no time to write. Had a great time caching with mountainsbeyond and StarsAlign. TFTC
Seagulls are currently nesting. As a result they are squawking loudly whenever anyone enters their space. Please decide for yourself if this cache is worth finding.
Was tricky to go unseen as the seagulls were very keen to tell everyone we were there lol. This was a fun find!
09:41Cold & wet? Yes! but a ferry fun day out and about around Sydney with fellow Victorians - long time caching buddies Suscoe. More intriguing history of the area plus a cache. A BIG thank you to the COs who placed this cache.37107
Suscoe headed out early this morning to explore Cockatoo Island. We visited with our very good friends Phetlern. It was a quiet ferry trip with not many people about.Well this certainly was a surprise, such a wonderful island to explore with terrific history and a diverse range of equipment, buildings, 360 degree views and a degree of serenity in the middle of a thriving City. Thanks to TFTC_Sydney for this location and hide.So quiet out here this morning. Apart from the seagulls.
Love this part of cockatoo island, come here all the time and forgot how beautiful it is at sunset TFTC
Such a fantastic location. A yacht went by playing heavy metal music. Waved to acknowledge any geocachers on board
It was forecast for 35m rain today but the sun came out instead!Exploring with JacksTracks.TFTTFTC
Nice find. The lid to the outer camo was off so reattached as best as I could and returned. TFTC
It looks like this one might need a maintenance visit. I'll put it on the agenda.
Great cache, a nice idea to take us to a part of the island we wouldnt have otherwise gone to, thanks!
A huge thank you to the cache owner for creating and maintaining a wonderful cache. EP79 and I have embarked on a three-month long geocaching trip across the globe, and we are both grateful and thrilled to discover new places and new friends. The first part of our trip is dedicated to Australia and New Zealand. Our last stop in Australia took us to Sydney. What an amazing place to see, explore and admire. I am very grateful for the invite to such a beautiful location. The TFTC series served as a wonderful tourist guide and exploring the city with these caches was a joy. Sorry for logging with a delay. The trip was really busy, but at least I get to revisit these caches again and enjoy great memories. Many thanks for the invite to a beautiful place and for a wonderful geocaching adventure. Greetings from Prague, the Czech Republic, Europe.
Thank you for the cache! The final part of the Australian section of my trip with Ironford was in Sydney. We spent four full days here and really enjoyed our time. Today was our last day, and we were doing really well on time, so we decided to go on one more trip by ferry - to Cockatoo Island. We left from Barangaroo docks on our way there and returned to the main terminal on the way back, so we got A LOT of amazing city and harbour views. The island was a great place to explore and combine sightseeing and geocaching, and we also learned a bit about local history.Greetings from Prague, Czech Republic
Second time here and now I have found all the caches the island has to offer. What a great place. In Sydney for a few days before heading to Canberra for the Capital Geobash. Today was all about catching public transport to pick up new LGAs.TFTC_Sydney, I found TFTC Sydney - Riverview today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.
Lost a bit of skin extracting this one. Lovely view of the river from this part of the island. TFTC
Visiting Sydney with a muggle friend to see Pink. Was decided to do some sight seeing and we both have never been to Cockatoo Island before. Arriving an hour before the tour had time to grab some caches. Suggested muggle friend make their way to the cafe for a coffee while I made the find on this one.TFTC
Swung by to check on this cache. I found the cache but didn't find a second one. Not sure what that's all about. If someone could send me photos, that would be great.Added a new log and pencil anyway.
Nice and easy but, then I got deja vu and found a second identical cache.Bizarre and ooky spooky
