I was heading down to Taupo to take part in the Taupo Ultramarathon, running 24km from Kinloch to Waihopai Bay on the W2K mountain bike trails. I left a couple of days earlier for some geocaching while I was in the area.I spent the night nearby in Turangi with the plan to walk the Poutu Canal loop finding the caches along there. I was looking forward to a nice, flat walk. I arrived early when the temperature was about 5 degrees but as the day progressed it warmed up considerably. The entire walk was just over 13km and completed in under 3hrs 25m. After completing the canal walk I headed off in search of more caches in the area. Luckily it was quiet on the roads and I could pull off for this cache. Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there currently heading down South for a week or so we had been going through some Mystery Caches to see which ones we qualified for & which ones were on our route this was on our list of caches to find today were towing a 8m Caravan so it made for some interesting times finding somewhere to park close to Ground Zero the cache ended up being an easy find, log-book completed & promptly replaced pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:LS #5,786 for Us!

Hello from Seattle! After an amazing trip along the southern coast of Australia heading from Sydney to Adelaide to attend a Mega-Event with my fellow Lackey and best Geobuddy Giacaches, we headed over to New Zealand for a week of caching and adventure - as I often say, we've never been closer, so it made perfect sense to plan for a stop. Nejdv jsem v obslun obci pro park, kter se jmenuje prozaicky Nrodn park, odlovila nkolik drive in keek a byla to rychlovka, neb obec byla tm liduprzdn. Apak u jsem dojela ke dvma kraoukm vychzkm k lvovm mohylm a k vodopdu Tawhei. Mohyla tedy byl jen kopeek s vhledem na horu Ruapehu - sopku, ze kter lva vytekla pi dvnm vbuchu. Hora je nejvy na severnm ostrov. Vodopdy nebyly velk, ale velmi pkn a jet u nich byla keka. Posbrala jsem jet njak dal, co mi tu zbyly ze vera a pak vyjela opt nahoru do Mordoru na njak vyhldky a pro keky. Prola jsem se tu i msn krajinou, ern ostr lva vude. Pak u byl as popojet zase dl. Jela jsem scenic route cestou sopek s pknmi vhledy na Osamlou horu a pak kolem jezer a k tomu nejvtmu na Zlandu. Jezero Taupo je obrovsk star kaldera sopky zaplnn vodou a j tu budu dal 3 noci pobvat. Cel oblast je iv, jsou zde sopky a zejmna hork prameny, kter snad taky navtvm. Ale jezero je velmi ist a pkn, tak, bude-li stle krsn poas, mon se vykoupu i v nm. A njak prochzky urit taky zvldnu. A tak jsem tu konen potkala opravdov Maory s potetovanmi oblieji a ne nkde u turist ale normln v supermarketu.It was a beautiful sunny day from the morning. I found some drive-in caches in the village of National Park and drove back to Torangiro National Park. I went to see the lava mounds and Tawhei Falls and collected caches that were left after yesterday's visit. Especially the ones on Bruce Road towards Ruapehu Mountain. Then it was time to move to Lake Taupo, where I will have a base for the next few days. On the way, I collected some caches and enjoyed the landscape. #13,848. I was driving north to Auckland today to join my family on holiday. They have flown up as they don't like road trips, especially ones where frequent stops for geocaches are involved. I do like that type of road trip so was enjoying the cruise north listening to music and stopping for any caches I felt like doing along the way. This was one of them. I know I qualify for this as I have now found a cache placed in every month since May 2000, except Jan 2024 and I still have 31 days to find a new cache for this option. Quick find at GZ. Passed here today without stopping as thought it would have complex t requirements well now I see it does but I qualify already so will grab when next passing .

It's that crazy time of year where you blink and suddenly everything is happening! Blink! (Summer starts) Blink! (work finishes for the year) Blink! (you're driving across the country to spend xmas with a friend)...At least this year I'm breaking the driving up just a little Last night I spent the evening in Palmy, so that today I would be able to take a leisurely drive to Auckland, at a pace that would allow me to collect a few caches along the way that have been placed since I last did this drive.I've already found 3 other caches of this series so far, all nearer to my home than this one. But in those 3 cases, I'm still missing a single month so I've not been able to claim any of the finds yet. At least I knew I could claim all of today's finds immediately!I always enjoy coasting down this hill. When not being rushed along I like to see just how much improved my fuel economy gets from the top to the bottom, but obviously not today as I had to pull over to find this cache. Im back in New Zealand for the first time in four and a half years. Im here for just over three weeks visiting the family. Nice to see a number of new caches about, in places that I have found caches before. Road trip today to head down the island to visit more family. I dont have any time constraints so can stop for a cache or two on the way. A long weekend and balancing the weather with what we wanted to do meant that an Easter Sunday trip to Taupo was what we wanted to do. We stayed overnight with our daughter in Taihape the night before which meant we were 45 minutes closer to the lake and enabled a sedate drive North grabbing occasional caches. On my radar for today was the remaining 'This was the year' challenge caches, a recce for the Stump Bay LBH caches and a new Ad Lab in Taupo, as well as the recent Virtual placement. As has been the story lately, not huge numbers, but a nice day out and some nice sites and sights. Cheers all COs.

Easter weekend and Squirrel Nutcase and myself are heading to Dannevirke.mission Viking series of caches and what ever else crosses our paths. Weather looks okay and hopefully my travel route will be okay to travel after cyclone has been in area to complete this. project GC confirms i qualify for this cacheproof to follow. no problems to locate this cache.TFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)… We’re on a big Easter weekend excursion visiting Vikings and anything else in between.

Easter Friday: Away early and crossing paths with the Geckohs heading South… A few cars to contend with, but this location was open enough to cross the road safely. A quick find in an obvious place. Thanks Phronimos. TFTP and TFTC.

Stayed the night in my van at Whakapapa Village, first time to have done that and it was quite cool, although I must remember never to park up under trees in rain, I was kept awake with drops of water falling off the wet trees. I'm down for the weekend, for cache maintenance and to place a few caches too. There are a series of challenge caches all of which I qualify for by this C.O, they have been a must to do.

I don't think I have ever got out of my vehicle on this stretch of road before, the cars are moving very fast, timing is everything when opening the door as I parked up. Cache all good here, and off to the next one, I'll probably place a another cache shortly... again, no worries with qualifying.

Now finally i can put together the necessary to log these caches after bottling 10kg of Peaches and a little bit more of pears all from our trees which greeted us when got home after visiting Rotorua . I qualify for nearly all of these except, of course , the very hard ones of 2001, 2002 and 2003 although very close to 2003.

Qualified for this one back in August 2014, a year after I started seriously caching (when the 30 days of August souvenirs where running, but a massive disadvantage for us in the southern hemisphere - must be why Groundspeak are concentrating on long-running events these days).

Pulled up to the gravel spot across the way on Kaimanawa Road and crossed over in between cars. My hearing is shot so I barely hear cicadas (I can only half hear them now as I type this), but I definitely heard them here - almost deafening! Cache was a straightforward find. All good here, and TFTCC.

Another long weekend, and despite the weird weather we've been having all over the country I still managed to get away up to Taupo (from Wellington) for four days of summer fun that included the annual Taupo summer concert as well as some lake kayaking and some geocaching.

I left Wellington straight after work on Thursday night and drove to Taupo. Despite the rain I was able to collect a few caches along the way. Friday was my main day for driving around the area and doing both the couple of Adventure Labs. Sunday was mostly about the kayak, and a particular cache that I could only get that way. And Monday was the drive home again for a few more road side ones on the way back home.

One of my goals for the trip was to collect all the remaining *That Was the Year (Mini Jasmer Challenge) caches that I qualified for, like this one.

Today we are making our way south from Gordonton to Feilding for a belated Christmas catchup with one of our daughters and her family, and of course we are finding a few selected caches along the way. We parked in Kaimanawa Rd and one of us made a careful crossing of the highway over to GZ. The cache was soon located and the log signed off. Thanks.
