Found while out and about doing deliveries in the area.Made a bit of a stop and a break to read these plaques with so much maritime history.
Found with Gazania Rigens, who has sent our answers, as per her log.Very interesting historic spot here and I took time to read all of the plaques, including the info board about the lighthouse. What are the metal towers either side of it with coloured horizontal slats for? I couldn't find any info on them! After a pie in town, we headed for the ferry to Sorrento.TFTC
Visited together with Zouave, but we're on holiday and quite behind with our logging. We'll do the homework when we're back in Scotland and log our find then.
We are spending a few days in Point Lonsdale for our Anniversary and today we have come into Queenscliff to have a look at caches around here. We were approaching the memorials when we noticed a gentleman mopping the memorials! How amazing. We stopped to say how impressed we were with what he was dong and spent a while chatting to him where he related some of the stories of the different memorials, a couple which formed part of the answers to the questions! We then continued to find answers and took the attached photo. PS We came back to this spot a couple of days later to do part of the Wherigo and he was here mopping again!! How dedicated is he... amazing!!! Great spot for a virtual! So many sad stories, very worthy of a cache! Answers sent and photo attached and Fave Point awarded! TFTC au.fait - GJMMelb
We arrived as a huge shipping container vessel entered the heads. Walked around and collected the answers. Doing as many caches as we can before we board the ferry home. Answers sent to CO.
Very cold and windy today.Quickly scanned the memorials and sent through the required answers then retreated to the warmth of the car.*owner_name|*, I found Maritime Memorials today. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.
Always nice to learn a bit of the history of places we visit, I've always been fascinated by WWII as well, a great virtual! Thanks for bringing me here!
I needed a cache in Queenscliff borough to completely change my map of Victorian LGAs to a pretty green colour. This was the first cache I found after travelling south from Ballarat. It was a cold, blustery day down here on the waterfront, so I was as quick as possible gathering the required information which I will send to the CO. Thanks for such an informative Virtual cache which will bring me back in better weather.
Thanks for this virtual cache on a not so great day but love the history Im a sucker for it
Next stop on my run around the Queenscliff/Point Lonsdale area on a day trip from Ballarat...I haven't been here before and as an ex-serviceman, it was interesting to read all the plaques...certainly some things there I did not know or realise. All the required info was found and has been sent to the CO. Spent a few minutes admiring the vies before heading off for my next stop. Thanks au.fait...thanks for the history lesson. Fav point added.
Thankfully the rain stopped again while I perused the plaques. TFT stop.. I don't think I've been here before.
Visiting Geelong from Canberra we decided to explore Queenscliff What a lovely place! This virtual took us to a wonderful lookout, we werent expecting to see Thanks for the cache placement
Paid a late afternoon visit to this spot after a wonderful day out caching with Baristayan and the peerless Toyhunters (who had choofed off back to Melbourne by this point).Such magnificent views out here, and such rich history on display. Thanks for bringing us up here!
Found this great virtual cache in a stunning part of the world on our way down the coast for a few days. Glad we stopped in here, stunning view. TFTC
A wonderful spot, chock-full of historical data commemorating the memory of those who paid the ultimate price in service of their country. The cache certainly draws one's attention to many of the memorials whilst compiling the required information. Thus I think the cache is worth a favourite point.
This is a fascinating area with lots of interesting history. Answers sent to CO. Thanks for bringing us here. TFTC
After picking up our 6,000 cache nearby, we wandered up here to enjoy the view. A beautiful day here. We don't recall noticing these plaques before. Great to highlight the history of the area. We saw several ships and the pilots boats whilst we were here. Thanks au.fait for creating for us all to enjoy. Find number 12952 at 1:11:51pm on Friday the 23 February 2024Well, I'm on my way, here we come Adelaide. I have seven days to get there and I'm travelling via the wiggly geocaching road so I hope I've allowed enouth time Today I'm travelling down to Aireys Inlet via Little River, Geelong, Queenscliff, Moriac and Jan Juc. Found all my targets bar one so, not a bad start to the trip.Trying to fill a gap in a challenge "Eighty LGA's with twenty finds" (yep, you can blame Adriaan) so here I am in Queenscliff . All were in good condition and found quickly. I'll have to bring the misses back if she every retires.Enjoyed some time reading and pondering...**Thanks for creating this virtual cache au.fait**---Don't miss finishing the Ballarat GeoTour before it ends on 4th March 2024. A list of the geocaches can be found [here](https://coord.info/BM9GWJ5). The final GeoTour Event is the [Farewell Ballarat GeoTour](https://coord.info/GCAFQ8B) on the 18th February 2024!You can also get prepared for the 2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards by checking out our preliminary lists [here](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists/).
Road tripping to the Adelaide Mega, caching all the way and trying to fulfil various challenges. This cache- why? could do at nightcan't pass a virtual It's now dark so I don't like being too far from the car on my own so this looked okay. Hopped out with my torch and phone and took photos of everything and retreated to the warmth of the car to put my answers together. Not too many hours before it had been 38C in Belmont near Geelong. The sea "breeze" was more of a gale here and it was much much cooler. Getting the happy snap of my personal flag was a bit of a challenge but I got a couple that will do.Have sent answers and have a pass mark.TFTC
We had such a great time in Ballarat over the weekend we decided to extend it out and head down to the Bellarine Peninsula to try our luck at a few adventure labs and anything else that came up close. It was a fairly successful day with only two Dnf's,We had not been here before and we really did enjoy the area and the history here but it was very sad to read about all the lives lost. We also didn't realise how many ships we had lost during the war. This was a real eye opener.Collecting the information was quite simple but interesting and we have sent our answers off to the CO.Many thanks au_fait for a fantastic virtual, a favourite point from us.
Omegaman1971??Support Your Local Villain????Live - Laugh - Lurk?? First To Find: 150Sidetracked Cache Finds: 121In Geelong for a few days with caching friends, spreading smiles on the map. The weather was perfect, lots of laughs during the hunt. After gathering the required information and getting a happy Snap, we continued the hunt.
Found on a short Vic trip with MrsRoosta and friends. We had an excellent adventure around the Geelong area.Visited here before the tunnel expedition. Answers sent and accepted. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cachefor all of us to find, au.fait, ***Roostaman***
What a fantastic day of geocaching around Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula! The weather was perfect, and the landscapes were stunning. Our group ventured through a mix of urban areas, lush parks, and coastal paths in search of hidden caches. The camaraderie among our caching crew made the day even more enjoyable, with plenty of laughs and shared triumphs as we uncovered each cache. As the sun began to set, we gathered to celebrate our successes and swap stories from the day's adventures.Geocaching around Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula was truly a memorable experience, and we can't wait to return for more caching adventures in the future! This is one of the caches found today. Thanks au.fait for the cache.
17/01/2024 8:45:00 PMDay 6 of a week long caching adventure to Ballarat and Geelong Regions.I visited just a cruise ship was heading out through the heads and plenty of onlookers had turned out to watch. Thanks au.faitFind recorded using GCDroid and logged using GSAK
Interesting bit of history here. The question about the mine confused me until I saw the physical object.
Geoturtle37 and I were in the area to attend the Christmas in Geelong events. We took this opportunity to get some ad labs as well as a few caches, this being one of them. It is very sad that this is all that is left of so many people although at least there is a tribute to them. Thanks for bringing us here with this cache.
We are pleased that this cache brought us here. It was interesting but so sad to read these plaques. A lovely tribute but such a shame that we need them. A great reason to put this cache here, Thank You. (My photo is with Papi's)
After visiting the general area for a different cache, I noticed this Virtual nearby, so of course I HAD to do it! Theres certainly a good view from this location. The series of information signs were interesting reading too.
Out and about in Queenscliff chasing a few smilies in less than admirable conditions. A few around today, but far from busy.Took my time to ponder over each plaque, gathering required information when I noticed it. Pic snapped with our signature pathtag, answers submitted. Nice use of a virtual, thanks for placing it.
Really enjoyed this location and cache. Having been down here a few times before, its amazing to admire how close point Nepean is. And more amazing to consider that this tiny strip of water allows the huge ships into the bay.Lots of family members who served, so very interested to look at these memorials.TFTC
We found Maritime Memorials on our wedding anniversary caching tour.A lovely spot that highlights some terrible tragedies. The service and sacrifice to their fellow man. Thanks au.fait for hiding this cache so that we could come and enjoy ourselves
Going up to Queenscliff for a few caches. Lots of plaques there so it was more of a challenge. All the same we still got the answers and sent them in. Thank you for bringing us to such a great view.
Something special or unusual goes here:Crikey it was blowing a gale today. Interesting place to visit. Gathered the information and answers sent to C.O. The Generic Bit:Both Bri and Sal are on the road for a holiday. [^] Holiday - Not a caching trip. This means if we are stopping for a rest, lunch, dinner or to see something whilst on holiday and there just happens to be a cache nearby then maybe Bri can go and try to find it. Maybe. Day 13 : Today was shortest drive for the trip. From Rye down to Sorrento and onto the ferry, cross to Queenscliffe and onto Geelong. Today we did some Adventure Labs and a few other caches along the way. **SAs Leap Year Event GCA1DNA - keep the date free - 29th February 2024. - BOING*****Thanks au.fait for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Logs prepared and published through GSAK.
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. Started on the 17th September in Cairns. Our plan is driving.along the eastcoast down. Then in the south on to Adelaide and from there ending the 31th October in Alice Springs.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case au.fait, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.
On my roundtrip along Australia with Oopie we are douing always some caches.Today we ware on the way from Phillip isle to the great ocean route and we did a few nice caches.S we make the answers together and with your permission Oopie wil sent the answers.COs thanks for bringing us on this nice place and making this cache.

Spontaneous Spring Victorian RoadtripDay Five: Morang to Ballarat via QueenscliffWeather: Perfect for geocaching. Answers submitted, and permission to log granted. It doesnt look too rough out there today. I would have passed through this gap for the first time in 1968 as a migrant. More recently Ive done a few crossings on the Spirit of Tasmania, but its always dark at this point. Thank you for bringing me to this spot with your Virtual au.fait.Its officially a mega.GCA1DNA The Great Leap ForwardAdelaide, South Australia, February 29, 2024.Wed love to have your company.
A whole four day trip with Aquilus1 to do the GeoTour in Ballarat some caching around Geelong and anything else that looked good on the way.
Weather was ok albeit a bit on the wet side for the first two days. Now on day 3 the weather is bice and sunny and we are pressing on with the last few Geotour caches on the way out and driving towards Queenscliff.
This cache was one of the ones we had the oportunity to do.
A nice cache here!
Thank you au.fait for the nice cache and experience you gave us!

Such a cool spot with great views and interesting memorials. I loved reading them and learning more. We even spotted dolphins swimming passed.
This cache was one found on a trip away with Flintstone's for 4 days. We had the Geotour in Ballarat as our target and made our way as far as Queenscliff.
Ballarat caching was a joy, and with the tour, we saw many lovely and interesting locations as well as stopping for many other caches as we passed. Lots of little walks helped with the colder first few days as well as being quite scenic.
A change of weather and scenery towards Queenscliff, but the coast was a great place to visit with plenty to do and see. As always, more to do than there was time for, I will just have to return one day! Thank you for your cache!

Finally, I'm catching up on logging from my trip down to Victoria for the Whittlesea Mega event. During my visit, I ventured to many lovely places, and this was one of them.
I had met up with fellow Queenslander chamad, who suggested we spend the day in Geelong as it had so much to offer.
Was very windy up here, but the lovely views made up for that.
Answers are sent as requested.
Thanks for the beaut Virtual au.fait

My favourite memorials are always the WWII ones. Is it PC to have a favourite?

Headed away this long weekend with fitzy_1965 for the Great Victorian County hunt. Our mission is to finish off Victoria.
We drove from Sale to Queenscliff and collected 6 more counties along the way. We liked Queenscliff so much that we decided yo stay the night and do some more caching in the area.
All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. And thanks to all the COs who continue to help us reach our goals.
A great virtual highlighting some Naval history. My Dad serviced from 1969-78 and my Papa was in the British Merchant Navy. His ship was torpedoed but all were rescued, thankfully.

32,036. Found with minniek during our Great Victorian County Hunt this long weekend. Our aim is to finish off Victoria - minniek needing 14 and myself 7.
We left Canberra after work on Friday and stayed overnight at a familiar free camp at Oxley Reserve. Last night we arrived in Sale and had a great dinner at a local pub followed by a luxury motel room. Day 3 dawned and we started off by completing 'Wellington', then heading West to complete a couple more then 'Queenscliff'. This was a handy and very interesting cache to use to tick off the county, with a family connection (My Grandfather was on HMAS Perth for her entire commissioning). Answers have been sent to the CO by minniek, and approval to log has been received.
Thanks au.fait !! Favourite Point. This cache completes all Victorian Counties/LGAs for me

Outnabout for some solo caching. Grabbed a couple of caches in town to tick off another LGA before I head back North for some warmer weather, although it is a lovely sunny day here today despite the very cool breeze. It’s always a great day for caching. ??

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria
And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Logged with permission from owner.... had played my weekly croquet match nearby and grabbed a snack at the cafe... my partner said "is there a cache nearby? " soon we were on the hunt and had answered the questions... took a moment to enjoy the view. TFTC

In the back with the staffy after the cleanup at Limeburners Point...
After a detour to Point Henry, n0w0rries' next target was an Adventure Lab down the pointy end of the peninsula.
A joint effort collating information while paying our respects.
Thanks, au.fait.

Found by Mary and David at 15:55. What a wonderful experience for us both. Thoroughly enjoyed all the memorials while finding the required answers. We had been here a couple of times before, but had not examined them so closely. Our thanks to au.fait.
Over from NZ for a weeks holiday around Melbourne. Today our children had shouted us a round the bay sightseeing tour but it almost didn't go ahead due to very small numbers booked - like only us 2 .. !!
Luckily they put on a super small bus , ( actually an Audi Q2 small SUV .. !! ) so we ended up with our own private chauffeur, who was quite interested in my geocaching passion. This virtual was slightly off our route, but I was keen to stop for it. No worries, "I can do that for you" said our driver . Not many tour bus drivers would be doing that I imagine .. .. !!!
Once at GZ, I spent a little time researching the answers, taking the required photos and then we were back on our way. TFT(Virtual)C

With family residing relatively close to this marvellous memorial, we finally got around to stopping by to take it all in and also collect the required information (answers have been verified by the CO). We have been here before but nice once again to pause in the shadow of the lighthouses and reflect.
It’s an immense (in terms of scale and the sheer number of individual memorials) commemoration of some notable historical acts, but also a great place to watch the big ships go by.
Thanks au.fait for curating this virtual. A photo of us from our visit is attached.

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

On our way from the Mornington Peninsula to Lorne we had to make a short brake after coming form Sorrento to Queensclife by feary. So we stopped near this virtual to look for the answers; they have been quite tricky, many plaques at ground zero and not so easy to read. But in the end, we managed to get an answer on all questions (hope they are right),

Today was spent doing some caches of interest around Geelong and the Bellatine Peninsula.
The are some interesting little snippets of information in the plaques here.

It is wonderful for us to be in this area and visiting. It has been on our radar for such a long time.
Today, we spent our time wandering around the coastline and visiting every point and view place that we could.
This location was outstanding, and it had so much history here of the war and the lives and ships that have been lost
We enjoyed this virtual very much and have sent out answers to the CO

After grabbing some fish n chips for dinner we came to this lookout to admire the view and eat our fish. This virtual was completed following dinner. Answers given.
Had a great couple of hours wandering around Queenscliff.
The weather was great and this area was a hibe of activity.
One bloke enjoying his fish and chips was covering one of my answers.
A quick word and he helped me out.
Nice view from here too.
Fav for this one.

In Queenscliff on an overdue task to replace a cache and while in the area this was top of the list to check out after meeting a group of cachers for a coffee and a long chat.
I had no ides that there were so many memorials highlighting all sorts of maritime significance where you can learn a lot. Slowly gathered the answers and I have been given the OK to log this virtual.
Another F.P because think it deserves one.

Very interesting location. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Answers sent. Completed while holidaying in Queenscliff for a week. TFTC
Great Cache
Found this cache after going to Apple Isle Moot & Tassie on my trip home.
I’ve may have added one of my moot pathtags for the next person to find (physical locations that will fit a pathtag only)
Thanks au.fait for the cache

#17240 - 12:22:00 PM; In Melbourne for a few days on family business and decided to head out to Queenscliffe to check out the sights and maybe collect a few caches to cross off another County/LGA from the 'to do' list. Plenty of muggles about today and parking was at a premium. Managed to find a park, locate all of the answers and grab a snap before heading in to town for a spot of lnch. Answers sent off to the CO to get the OK! TFTC au.fait
We're in Queenscliff for a few nights. I'd suggested going to Sorrento today but Geo-teen said no. I did manage to get her on her bike though, so I'll take that as a win!! Quite a bit cooler today with a fair breeze but still very comfortable. I really enjoyed reading these memorials & reflecting on the men heading out through the heads to war. We watched a huge container ship navigate into the bay. Our answers have been sent. Busy wee spot today with fabulous views. Many thanks
We arrived just in time to see the Spirit of Tasmania sail out through the heads. Answers sent and hope they are correct. It was a lovely day to search for these answers.
Found with my dear friends suss vulture. Whilst they were showing me around to the Port Philip Bay Pilots AL I quickly walked around to nab the answers for this. Spectacular views from here and some interesting tributes. TFTC!
