Found at 11:39 AM GAFF1.Gosh the colouring of those wooden statues certainly have changed in 2.5 yrs! This whole area has totally changed since we were last here in 2009. Unrecognisable from the industrial mess that was here. Thanks to Leaping Wombat

A great collection of cute sculptures, explored many of them while in the area. After staying in Dululu overnight, we discussed options on directions, always so many choices, but the one was made to head towards Rockhampton via an earthcache and down the Bruce. Other options had more appeal, but left for a time when there was more of it. Listening to the radio that the section of road between Rockhampton and Gladstone was the most notorious for fatalities as we drove had us revaluation our option. Not from the report so much, but from the many near misses we saw while on it. Gladstone was a new discovery for me, having never visited. Big ships and tugboats, but a lovely day exporing about through caching.1770, with a name like that was a destination. Arriving very late afternoon with just enough light to see the pretty area, very popular and busy, but can see why. Black sands on the beach, a sunset and an AL to show us around. A short but nice visit then off till a cache stop found a good site to set ip camp overnight on the way to Bundaberg. Thanks for your cache that guided us about.

Easter normally means either sailing or camping. This year I was sailing, crewing on a 43 foot racing yacht in the Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race. After a slow start in very light winds at Shorncliffe on Good Friday, we managed to get out of Moreton Bay late afternoon and settle in a for night reaching north up the coast. There were a few nasty squalls, but we reefed down when needed without problems. We rounded Breaksea Spit dawn and put up the big kite for the fun ride across to Lady Elliot Island and then all the way into Gladstone where we finished just after dark. The highlight for me was steering the boat at 23 knots through a squall about half way across the paddock. This morning in between various chores - cleaning up the boat, shopping for provisions for the delivery crew and taking crew members to the airport, I managed to stop at most of the waypoints for this virtual. It is busy at the festival today. Answers sent to the CO. Many thanks Leaping Wombat.Pete#7,793

Virtual caches are always fun and this was no exception. It was like a scavenger hunt. My Muggle daughter and I headed out for an early morning walk to find them and enjoyed the beautiful views as we went along. My favourite ones were the turtle and the dolphin. The last time I came for a visit, there were 3 dolphins in the harbour close to the sculpture. Thanks for the great start to our day! Fav point!

After QOGM 2023 in Longreach, TBU went on a round trip via Mount Isa, Burketown, Karumba, Ravenshoe, Atherton Tablelands down to Innisfail to Townsville. Now we are heading towards South back home, still refreshing our memories and collecting smileys. Gladstone is a special place for us - we like to return here since we visited it the first time in 2003 - during our holidays whilst still living in Germany! The sculptures were one of those additions which we hadn't seen before. And the East Shore precinct is almost ready! Thanks for this cache, Leaping Wombat

Departed Melbourne many weeks ago now and have been travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully Smile), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel.
Finally made the northern warmth and the Cape and we have loved every minute of it Smile now we are on our way home again and having many more adventures as we slowly travel south.
Today, we travelled from Kinka Beach to Gladstone and grabbed a cache or two when we arrived.
Dropped into the Visitor Information Centre to check out what's around town and grabbed this at the same time.
**Thanks for placing this cache Leaping Wombat**

Finally got back to looking for caches after a bit of a hiatus. Have been looking around Gladstone for finds that we still hadn't logged, and then realised that not only had we not found this one, we hadn't done any other virtuals.
Figured it would be a good one, given the cache owner, so out we went.
Nice stroll around some great parklands, an area Gladstone can be proud of.
Found the required info, and sent off for permission to log.
Thanks for the VC, Leaping Wombat.

Started off at the East shores carpark and strolled through the park. Exhausting all the sculptures in this area we strolled back via Auckland House for a glass of their finest, then back to the car in search of the rest through the Marina then around to Spinnaker Park. I had previously seen the dugong before during the 10km event of the Gladstone Easter fun run. However, walking at pace up to the dugong, I first thought it looked like a nun and couldn't work out why there was a sculpture of a nun down there... closer inspection brought out the truth!! (It's either a homely looking nun or a good looking dugong!)
Glad I got this virtual cache before it disappears.

This is a really good cache to find for beginners. We were driving around the marina, and decided to get this one. A couple of "wooden structures" later, and I thought this was lost, but then I saw it! Great find!
I must say, as a tourist I love Gladstone as a city. This is also my first virtual cache, and it's a cool concept! We were traveling from Toowoomba so there are no virtual cache around there for miles.
Tftc and the different cache type!

Permission to log has been received from Leaping Wombat. Had this in our caching plan to do on the way back from an event today in Rockhampton which concluded at 12noon. Arrrived in Gladstone at around 2pm after completing the Ad Lab there. 3popints in Rockhampton one point in Emu park and One point in Yeppoon.

We attempted the Ad Lab at the harbour first and it was a good walk over 6000 steps and only got 4 of the 5 waypoints as WP5 is not available due to reconstruction works. CO Advised.

Left the car park and headed over towards WP1 and Posted Co Ordinates for this one but had a 10 minute wait just as we came off the roundabout as the Bridge was in the raised position. The way points are not in order but managed to look at each sculpture as we headed to one particular way point so no back tracking. Drove right up to all of them except 2 where there was a shortish walk involved. Loved this Virtual. A fav point for this one. TFTVC Leaping Wombat.

I saw this come out when I was heading north to the Townsville Mega. Making a drive to this as a FTF on a virtual would have been nice. However I was pipped at the post by some other Brisbane cachers. Anyways today I am still in Gladstone and I now get to check out all the carvings around the area.

Looking for the required letters was a little more fun than I thought it was going to be, but I got there in the end. Thanks for this virtual cache and an interesting one at that. Answers have been sent off .

That was fun and we were lucky as we found the initials on the second statue that we visited.

On a New Years getaway down from Townsville for a bit of Jolly Brolly Folly and some other targets as part of a catch up with Townsville’s finest DNFer Greencordial.
A little off the beaten track but enjoyed the drive out this way at night. The PowerStation stood out like a beacon on the way to the cache. I had a bit of luck with my choice of sculpture but that was undermined with a glass jar filled with sweetness falling out of the vehicle when I opened the door to grab a pen or light source.
Placed my little improvised name tag and a well travelled trackable which only seems to come out when I get a FTF but I made an exception for this
I’ve sent my answers and photo. Not sure If I’ll get confirmation but it seems straightforward.
Thanks Leaping Wombat for this hide GC9P7YR What Wood You Do?. Nice one. Always enjoy a good virtual.

Thank you very much Leaping Wombat for placing this virtual, giving me a reason to explore this area. We specifically did the detour over Gladstone for this cache. We are currently traveling along the coast and try to get as many targeted caches as I can. The majority of them are either in an interesting location, have a great DT combination, a good set of attributes or work in other ways towards my stats. So it was great fun stopping here and getting this cache.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 124. Gladstone Day 1. I spent the day caching in the Gladstone region, first I headed down to Tannum Sands, then I looped back into Gladstone via another road and did some suburban caches before heading into the port and marina fore shore area to finish my day off.

These sculptures add a bit of variety to the area, they are not big and brash, but each one bears a close look as they are quite detailed. I found the answers needed and have sent them on for approval.

Thanks for the cache Leaping Wombat

We decided to spend an extra night in Rocky and try our luck at the Cry series and then finish off the CQ Adventure before heading for a couple of earth caches in a bit of a loop and anything else that popped up on the screen.

This was quite an interesting concept for a virtual cache and one we haven't seen before. We thought that we would start our search in a systematic order. We enjoyed looking at the sculptures while we were searching commenting that the artist is quite talented with his workmanship. We were quite happy that we came up with the goods not too long into the trail .
After we found the required information we continued one to check out the rest of the carvings before sending our answers off to the CO where we got very prompt permission to log.

Thanks Leaping Wombat for setting this one up.

Day 14 of our trek to the Townsville Mega and back with fitzy_1965 and two of my geo-kids Death_killer & my_name_jeff_1.

Today we drove from Gladstone to Maryborough. We targeted oldies and counties before hitting the Jolly Brolly Folly geoart just outside Maryborough. Another mixed weather day for us so when it started rain at the end of the day we found some accommodation earlier than usual. Weather cleared so we headed out again in the early evening and ended the day with the new mural adventure lab in town.

All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. Thanks to all the CO’s.

First up this morning we tackled this virtual. Took a little longer than we had anticipated but we were glad we did it. Answers sent to CO and now logging with permission.

27,901. Found with minniek during our Grand Townsville Trek up to CacheQLD's Townsville Mega Event over Easter.

Day 14 of our Townsville Trek, and we drove from Gladstone down to Maryborough picking up a few golden oldie caches (one of which we missed last year), and tackled some of the Jolly Brolly Folly GeoArt caches. Firstly though we visited this Virtual as it was very close to our overnight campground. We wandered around and located the ones we needed, and google provided the rest. minniek has submitted our answers and photo to the CO.

Thanks Leaping Wombat !! Lovely area to look around.

I visited this Virtual cache as I headed south after attending the Mega Event at Townsville.

I drove and wandered around the area, checking out the sculptures and collecting the required information. Its quite a nice area - I ended up having lunch and finding another cache at Spinnaker Park.

hanks Leaping Wombat for the cache.

I had my eye in this virtual from the time it was published. I follow this particular artist and their work so I was familiar straight away. They are actually local to me! All that was needed was to identify which ones they’d autographed. I made light work of it and set about fulfilling the logging requirements. We had intended to have brunch at the cafe on spinnaker park but alas it was closed. So it was a tour of the art trail only. Thanks for highlighting this artists work with this cache.

19-Apr-22
This VC got me to drive into Gladstone today which I wasn’t complaining about because any excuse to be close to the Ocean since living in the D Downs. Anywhooo back to back the Mega in Townsville.

I came here for an overnight stay in 2019 for the first time during my honeymoon to Hervey Bay and here I was very excited to take my new husband to Aldi for the first time ( as we never had one in Townsville where we were living at the time and this Aldi was the most further north). That’s romance.

Over all, the cache was a good experience and nice to see something different with the method to get the answers.

I have attached a photo of my wet shoes (left my birks in Townsville with ESCO accidentally) and a nice bird who jumped on my car door as soon as I opened it. I was very brave (scared of birds). Regarding the shoes, funny enough they were actually useful as I stepped into a puddle which the poor birks would have been sad about.

Thank you Leaping Wombat for placing this cache for me to enjoy!

We popped in to Gladstone on our way to Rockhampton on Day 1 of our holiday to have a look at the racing boats just finished the day before from the Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race. (usually we watch the boats round the first mark near Redcliffe from our catamaran, but this year it's out of the water for renovations so we missed out) Seeing these racing yachts so close up was great. We spent a while roaming the fingers, admiring them then set off to look at some sculptures.
We found the first one then took way too long to find another one with no particular map of which path to follow. As we still needed to make it to Rockhampton tonight, J wanted to pull the pin, so we headed back to the car (which we had had to park a fair way off as lots of the area was closed off due to the race events). As we drove off trying to find our way out of the precinct, we spotted some more sculptures which I managed to convince J to stop at and luckily one of them had the information needed.
They really are beautiful sculptures. I'm surprised they don't all have a plaque with a bit of a story about the artwork and artist.
Great idea for a virtual. Wish I got one too - maybe next time...

Today began the Roadtrip to Townsville with Fangsoki, Captain Terror and Crew153, with us stopping in Rockhampton for the night. Along the way we stopped in here for this fresh new virtual. We certainly “wooden’t” have seen these sculptures otherwise!
A quick journey had us the info needed, and some photos of some very dodgy cachers! ??
Thanks for the virtual Leaping Wombat.

In a past life, I used to frequent Gladstone, and on more than a few occasions have visited this area. All of that though, was before the installation of this art. So there was the first personal mystery solved of "why haven't I seen these before?".

Today I'm in a car with Crew 153, 1MinnieMoo and Fangsoki making our way from Brisbane to Rockhampton. We arrived in the Gladstone area by lunchtime and after a spot of off-roading, decided to head off the highway and into town for a bite to eat and this shiny new virtual for a change of scenery.

With food in hand, we headed out in the drizzly weather for the harbour and to visit some wooden art. We did split up a bit and I was the lucky boy to find one of the specimens we required. It was nice though, to see a few of the installations.

Always nice to have these little warm touches to an area and even better to have a virtual smiley too. Answers have been sent to the CO. Thanks for showing me this addition to the world, Leaping Wombat Smile

Day 1 (Toowoomba to Gladstone) of our Mega road trip. I noticed this one several days ago while finalising our list for the Mega. We arrived in Gladstone much later then anticipated due to multiple stops at roadworks lights. By the time we set out to inspect the sculptures it was dark. It was perfect to get out and walk a little after sitting in the car all day. I hadn’t looked at the cache page since but I was surprised to discover our party were the second to find. Answers sent on behalf of Mr Esky & The Esky Boys…with permission to log granted very promptly. Thanks for the tour, Leaping Wombat.

Mega Travel - Day 1: Brisbane to Rockhampton

Up early and travelling, grabing a few caches of interest on the way though. A bit if zig-zagging up the A1 never hurt anyone!

A FTF opportunity was available, so we made our way around many of these statues. Eventually found what we were after. Answers sent by JACS Team on all our behalf. TFTC.

A plan was hatched that if this was still available by time we drove through we would grab it! These are really quite a pretty addition to a lovey area. This makes my 2nd virtual *FTF*
Thanks for the tour around town. FP from me ??

Today we drove from Brisbane to through Gladstone to Rockhampton, I had noticed this new virtual earlier in the week and popped it on the list. Unexpectedly it was still up for {FTF} so it was one of the first points of call in town. Walked the path and eventually found our prize. A quick sign on the hands and we (Ardom, ESCR, King Lizard and I managed to get our hands all in the one shot. Answers and photo sent.
