After being away for a bit it is now back to suburban or rural caches after work to try and beat my last streak of 67.It is just a personal challenge that Im working on and Im going to try and make it to 180.So it is now decision time to either take a small detour on the way home or a larger detour on the way home to find a cache to keep this streak going.I made my decision last light as to which way I was going to go so I packed my climbing gear into the Geowagon as I was going to climb Mt Carberry on the way home today.I soon made the accent and when up the top I took in the view that was on offer from the peak.I soon did some counting and then made my way back down safely to the Geowagon and now off to home for tea. Thanks Benjamin Screamer TFTVC.

6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to prepare an 18-days project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select only few of them. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the Mega, which was initially our aim.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot.During Blackhoot's event, "Auvergnats in Australia #2", McLookers told us about Ballarat's geotour caches. It was a great suggestion for our Sunday schedule. So departure at 8am from Melbourne, to spend the day in Ballarat, we will target geotours and a few extras. On the way black, we stopped to visit this spot. Thanks to the owners for the caches and the discovery of places.Thank you McLookers for this advise.

**18/02/2024, 08:11:00****Find #5719****Virtual Find #63****Logged with permission**Steve and I headed out early on a perfect morning and headed to Ballarat to attend the end of the Ballarat GeoTour event in addition to finding caches of interest. Steve had already found this Virtual so it was just me who made the short walk from the car to the top of the 'mountain'. A cricket match was in full swing on the oval clearly seen from this lookout but I didn't have time to stay and watch. I proceeded to count that which needed to be counted, took some photos and then headed back to the car.**Thank-you to Benjamin Screamer for placing this geocache**

Thanks for bringing us to this nice little park and the chance to stretch my legs and cause me to pant a bit. Was the height of the mound enlarged when they made the oval I wonder. So much counting to do here. I took photos to help me because I kept losing count. Ill message the answer when I get two or more totals agreeing. Is there a panel missing?

I had read the description prior to driving out here, so I knew what was expected. So knowing I was looking for a hill of sorts was funny in that this area is SO flat!!! It wasn't till right by it that it was spotted. Well, what do you know? It is a hill! Up I went, counted the poles, and sent of answers, then the photo. It's so nice and breezy from the top. It's not too hot today, but the breeze was still enjoyed!

Today was one of the best caching days Ive ever had - across 25k finds, and 12 years of playing! Ballarat just doesnt disappoint. I could easily spend a couple of extra days here. I had a target list of 50 caches. Knowing I wouldnt make a dent in the stockpile out here, i prioritised the geotour before it ends, virtuals, a couple of 2001 caches, and my favourite - challenge caches, mixed in with a few rare icons that I struggle to find in WA. I could have easily given out 50 favourite points today, but I dont have many spare!Leaving Melbourne just after 6am and finishing ba k in Melbourne just after 7 - it was a solid days work! Thanks to everyone involved in making the geotour a success and the local COs for their great caches and experiences that they shared with me.Will be back next time were in WA for a holiday.

Out and about again, Im in Victoria continuing the quest for more interstate caches. Weather was ok so made the most of the time here with a bit of sightseeing too. A little late as I had a lot of catching up to do over the week.Found a variety of hides and in different areas which made for a nice day. Generally quick finds todayThanks to all the COs for the hides I found.

After the Cobbledicks Ford CITO and visiting a workmate in Eynesbury, what else to do in the area but go caching. I can't believe this is only 10 metres above the surrounds. And it doesn't look natural to me. It could easily be a man made hill. I have sent my answers to the CO for approval. Many thanks to Benjamin Screamer for the cache.

I had highlighted this virtual cache for a possible visit on our way back to Melbourne, but by this stage, time was becoming critical. I was thankful that Mount Carberry wasn't any higher, as we were able to jog from the nearby street without too much difficulty, and made our way to the summit to be treated to nice views and nearby sport (cricket?). I had hoped that there was a pattern to the section pickets count (not reading the hint until after my visit), and it became apparent that I'd be counting every single picket. With the number of sections soon counted, and after taking a couple of obligatory photographs, it was then a rush to jog back to the car and be on our way. Thanks Benjamin Screamer for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

----------

This extended weekend, [jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T), infant Cottontail and I were visiting Ballarat from Brisbane, targeting the [Ballarat GeoTour (GT4A1)](https://coord.info/GT4A1). Highlights included the historical architecture, buildings, and artwork/sculptures of inner Ballarat, Ballarat Botanic Gardens, Lake Wendouree, Sovereign Hill, Eureka Stockade, and mountains Mount Buninyong and Mount Warrenheip. We were lucky to have great weather with no rain and mostly blue skies each day, which aided our enjoyment of our trip. Apart from the targeted GeoTour geocaches, our geocaching has largely been opportunistic following tourist sights and attractions, although we attempted/targeted higher D-T combinations from solved puzzles, and rare cache types like virtual caches, Letterbox Hybrid caches, and Adventure Labs.

Today, I had an early start to attempt Ballarat's drain caches that were recommended. A thoroughly enjoyable adventure marvelling at the historic drain brickwork construction.
After returning home and regrouping with the family, we proceeded to the Magpie challenge cache series along Frenchmans Lane, of which I was expecting to walk, but we used the rental car to drive the series. We then returned to Eureka Stockade where we visited the Eureka Centre museum, and had a play at the park's playground.
We then had a few geocache stops that were on our targeted list as we proceeded east to Mount Warrenheip, ensuring we found the 2001 oldie [Medievil](https://coord.info/GCBBE). It was then a final driving loop north/north-east of Ballarat to find our remaining [Ballarat GeoTour](https://coord.info/GT4A1) geocaches, stopping at Kirks Reservoir, Goldfields Track, and Black Hill Lookout. I also had a quick dunk/swim in Lake Wendouree, before commencing our drive back to Melbourne.
During our drive to Melbourne Airport, we had time to visit Bungaree, Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, and Melton, targeting interesting geocaches that included virtual caches, EarthCaches, and those with high Favourite Points.

Adventure Labs completed today:

Out on International Geocaching Day.
Following the trail of events across the state.
5am start for me let's see what time I get home.
A lot planned as I'm hunting down 11 GC icons along the days travels.

After avoiding some local youths destroying a computer near the street. I climbed the Mountain to gather the info required.
This one is a little easier than the one I was up on back in February (Mt Kosciuszko)

Info sent to CO. Photo taken then time to head back down to continue my journey.

It always sounds so good when you can claim a cache on a mountain. This was no trouble at all to conquer......I'd go for Everest but it's becoming a bit of a super highway these days. Thanks for bringing me to this mountain. Great views, a beautiful day and very quiet.

On a day of driving to Eynesbury, we passed through Melton, and so stopped off for a couple of virtual caches. We parked and took the nice stroll up to the top where we got to work retrieving the required answer. Nice views from up here.

A day out caching in the Sunbury / Melton area with our good friends Phetlern.
It was cloudy, a little rain at times, cool and lots of fun.
We enjoyed our day and enjoyed visiting the various locations around this area.
Thanks to Benjamin Screamer for this Virtual, we have emailed the requested count.

A fun day out and about around Sunbury, in the great company of the Suscoe duo, followed by an irresistable stop in Melton on the way home. All the kids were heading home from school, which made interesting viewing around the park.

Found by Mary and David at 11:55. On a freezing morning, we headed for the lofty heights of Mt. Carberry. Earlier, M had requested a champagne brunch for her birthday and, after that, this was her next choice. Huge thanks for enabling us to meet our daily find for the current "Wheel of Challenges: Out and About" requirement. Our thanks to Benjamin Screamer.

Over from NZ for a weeks holiday and with nice weather today, we made the most of it by getting out into the countryside for a few caches.

First stop was the Organ Pipes park and the opportunity for four earthcaches. Once they were ticked off, we headed west for some more virtuals and trads with higher FP's.

Stopped off here and have to say this was the easiest mountain I have climbed for a while .. . Answer sent to CO TFT(V)C

Today the snuggle muggle was catching up with her friends for a ladies day, which meant I had the whole day to myself. So of course what am I going to do with a whole day of free time...

Cache of course! So I decided to make a day trip up to [Ballarat](https://www.visitballarat.com.au/) and cache along the way. Today's main focus was on finding oldies and virtuals, but I did grab a few others along the way.

This virtual was the second stop along my trip today. I always love virtuals and with them being a bit more rare I always try to stop and find them.

I had actually just finished finding [6Hinemoa2's](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=633db9a7-ff9c-4db1-87fc-3125803dea59&wid=64a0ddcc-4c54-4da5-a5b6-da9f903f0d9f&ds=2) [Melton Clock Tower Sculpture - Virtual Reward 3.0 (GC9P665)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9P665?luid=14c9b8a9-f168-482b-9859-7dade10645ff) virtual, which also required me to do a bit of counting.

Luckily, I found this one early in the day and I already had my morning coffee lol. Who knows if my counting would have been accurate towards the end of the trip lol.

Well after enjoying the views, and sending my count to the [CO](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=58b3bf8b-8ef6-4f4a-9b71-d96fd91a32c7&wid=4d689e35-13a5-4a1e-8a5c-8698d41f71f5&ds=2) it was back to the geomobile and on to the next one!

A big thanks goes to [Benjamin Screamer](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=58b3bf8b-8ef6-4f4a-9b71-d96fd91a32c7&wid=4d689e35-13a5-4a1e-8a5c-8698d41f71f5&ds=2) for the great morning views and really making the caffeine do the heavy lifting this morning lol. TFTC.

We were heading north and in the general direction of Rutherglen for the Mega. It was a beautifully sunny and warm day, so we wore unsuitable footwear for walking, but we did not let that deter us.

We parked nearby and made our way to the top of the Mountain.

The view from the top was well worth the short stroll.

Unfortunately, this also seems to be a spot for late-night drinking parties that end up with the smashing of bottles and leaving empty cans and bottles strewn all over the place. We took a supermarket bag of it with us, but that barley scratched the surface

Thank you Benjamin Screamer for this Virtual cache

This afternoon we visited Mount Carberry. It is certainly a great vantage point but there was no activity on the playing fields. The answer to the required question has been sent to the CO and a photo of the view is included.

Thanks Benjamin Screamer for the virtual cache.

After attending a CITO at Hopetoun Park we headed back on the highway for Melton to cache for the afternoon with RoamingHowie.
We left RoamingHowie down the bottom as he had already done this one and walked up the top to take a selfie and do the count.
One half of the teams Dad lived close by many moons ago so she was familiar with the area.
Answer sent.
Thanks Benjamin Screamer for the virtual placement.

Climbed another mountain! WOW. Almost tongue in cheek as my house is at 570 m. Returning to home base in the NE via circuitous route as I’m on a mighty large LGA mission so it’s Melton here I come today. It’s been hugely interesting to be in the flat country and witness the urban expansion. This site could do with a massive CITO - quite impressive the amount of trash. TFTC and the FUN - glad I came!

On the way from the Intervening Days event to another community celebration, there's still enough time to detour for a walk up a hill.

Especially for another virtual cache find in December.

Thanks, Benjamin Screamer.

It is a little over the top to call it a mountain, but considering how flat it is around the area, you have to grab what you can!
It seems the locals like to bring their stubbies to the top to consume, pity they can't carry the empties back down instead of smashing them there.
Took a little while to count all the pickets, but when we got the same answer BettyBoo3747 sent it through to the CO.
Thanks, Robmc.

The mission: 12 different cache types in 1 day. Whereigo, CITO, Locationless, Trad, Earthcache, Letterbox, Community Celebration, AdLab, Virtual, Multi, Event & Mystery
The route: You Yangs > Melton > Geelong.
Why: Because I can. But probably not for much longer once celebration events and location-less are done.
Mission Status: Successful.

This cache: I already have a virtual for the day by this time, but couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a second. A brief detour and I was scooting up the hill. Had to take my socks off to keep counting and still ran out Answers to come tomorrow, obligatory virtual cache selfie attached.

#20677. Aaah Melbourne you have done it again - mind-boggling heat one day and cold the next. We are off to Melton to attend an Event and find a few other caches in the area.

One of the caches we visited after the event today. Took a while to find our way in for a relatively short walk to the top. A pity the area isn't better looked after, removing the broken glass and rubbish. Great views all around from up here. We both counted and fortunately got the same number, so hopefully we both got it correct. Answer forwarded to the CO and permission to log granted.

Thanks Benjamin Screamer

Fleabag- and I both had some spare time today and I was also getting my car serviced so while that was happening we headed west mainly for a calendar day for a virtual for Fleabag-. After that we grabbed a few random trads and some adventure labs.
After a circular climb the counting was done and we both got the same answer. I then watched a guy practicing his gold for a few shots and then we headed on our way.
Thanks Benjamin Screamer for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

23-Dec-22
Spiffy- and I both had some time to kill this morning so we hatched a plan to go over the bridge and cache the west. A couple of target caches then just freestyling with my buddy.

This cache was a draw card for my visit. Lots of counting and thankfully we both had the same number.

Thanks to Benjamin Screamer for the fun and the adventure.

I was wandering my way south, caching as i went, with the intention of spending a couple of days along the surf coast. Along the way i collected various caches which i had targeted to fulfill various challenges and goals. Mt Carberry loomed as a desirable option. When i arrived i was surprised. Even in such a flat continent as Australia, Mt Carberry stands out as a midget among giants. A quick wander up the hill, a quick count, a scan of the horizon and the view, then i was back down and away. Thanks for this surprising little detour on my route.

Site visited with dalerious Razz, and answers sent to CO.

There is another site in Victoria where there is another "modest" mountain. A mountain by any other name.
Still an interesting place to visit and this evening was a most enjoyable time to ascend this suburban mouldhill.

Thank you Benjamin Screamer for this cache Cool.

We ran out of sherpas and had to scale the last 10 metres of Mt Carberry without bottled oxygen, in fading light and in thongs. Razz
Despite the thin air up there, we managed to keep our wits about us enough to complete the task at hand and commenced our descent to base camp confident that we had indeed calculated the correct number of pickets required to log this "epic journey" as found once catnap777 sends off our colluded response to the CO for scrutiny. (We got the green light to log).

It was a good idea to make this one a virtual, as I doubt a physical container would last too long up there. Especially as it appears someone has already taken off with one entire fence panel Surprised No doubt it was a keepsake, their own reward for scaling Mt Carberry. TwistedWink

Visited Mt Carberry late on this glorious Spring evening.
We had great 360 degrees view and easily could identify Mt Blackwood, Mt Bullangarook with Mt Sugarloaf and Mt Cotterall in the opposite direction.
We have sent our answer to the CO and logging this find in anticipation of the COs approval.

No problem when we came along here with goingplaces2. We counted, got two different answers, then recounted and both got the same number this time. Thank for creating this cache go to Benjamin Screamer.

Managed to find the closest point for parking with ilook4geo and we ascended to the heights of Mt Carberry. We did the necessary count and sent the number to the CO. Thanks go to Benjamin Screamer for showing us this overall viewing point.

Visited while over for the Whittlesea Mega and in the area visiting a friend. When I arrived on site a muggle school student was sitting a seat but he was so busy and entranced with his phone I suspect that he didn't even know I was there. Answer sent to C.O.

Glad I packed the climbing gear!

Interesting stroll up a hill. Answers sent to the cache owner.

November 2022. Time for the second Victorian Mega of the year. This time in Whittlesea. What is it with W's? Time for another epic road trip. Who will join our merry crew? We traveled from South Australia and camped in the pig pen. It rained. It blew. It was sunny. It was not sunny. All four seasons. Beautiful location and some awesome caches.

Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.

Thanks for the cache. Merci la cache. Danke für den Cache. Gracias por el caché. Bedankt voor de cache. Kiitos kätköstä. Zikomo posungira. Terima kasih untuk cache. Hvala cache. Köszönöm a cache. Nga mihi mo te keteroki. Dankie vir die kas.

We have arrived in Melbourne to attend the MEGA Event at Whittlesea, so of course we came over a few days before to do some geocaching first!
woolwood9 and I had a good time and we visited this virtual cache.
This area had seen a lot of rain, all the grass was wet and some large areas of flooding.

We got quite wet here in a brief heavy shower, then there was hail falling on our way back to the car!
*Thank you for helping to show us around different areas and adding to our enjoyment*

A wet cold and windy walk up here but what to do when Victoria got the lucky ticket in the virtual raffle
Happy to make it back to the warm car after completing the count

Appreciate the fast response from CO

We parked and made the nice walk up to the top of the hill to count and take a photo. A location I would have never come to if it wasn’t for caching

This weekend we headed to Melbourne for a 3 day road trip to watch the lions take on the demons at the MCG in the semi finals plus catch up with family for the weekend, couldn't resist but add some caches to the tally for the trip as well.

Thanks for the cache

This was kind of like a ghetto mountain. Broken glass everywhere, crunching under our feet. Cartons of Jack Daniels strewed about. A sign of late night, possibly violent, booze sessions. A very different scene to Feathertop. Still worth the visit. Thanks for the virtual here.

A detour after a Tai Chi. This proved to be a counting exercise x2 in the hope that I hadn' miscountef. Then it was time to take in the view.
My answer has been forwarded to the CO for assessment.
Thanks for highlighting this spot once again Benjamin Screamer as I had forgotten about Mt Carberry here.

Our first of the day as we took a detour through Melton on our way to Buninyong. Big ghetto vibes here in Melton South, they don't make parks like this anymore. Plenty of broken glass at GZ, evidence of last night's festivities by the local kids. Thanks for the interesting virtual cache Benjamin Screamer.

We came here after sundown, but still, we were able to answer the question easily enough. Sadly the rain started coming as we started our way up, but we refused to walk away! We quickly ran back to our car but we were unable to pick a pick of us, so I quickly snapped one of the area! So beautiful even at night!

GT37 and I had run into RoamingHowie again so we set about to complete the two virtuals. We did wonder where we were going to find the highest point as we could see nothing on the horizon for some distance. Thank you to RH for sending the answers for all of us. Thanks to the CO for the cache.

Now we can actually claim that we have climbed to the highest point in this area, lol. Thank you for placing this cache and thank you to RH for sending the answers on our behelf.

After a cracking morning in the sun at the Hopetoun CITO the day was too good to waste so I started making my way home slowly via a few caches.

Bumped into geotutle37 and Papi4506 again as I parked on the street. This must be the third time today. We set about counting, and counting. There were some muggle teens hanging out in some of the chairs so we had to count from down lower so as not to stare at them. I finally got around to checking the photos we took and sent off the answer. Sooo close the CO has advised. Now which rail did we miss, or count twice!

Thanks Benjamin Screamer for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

*Cache find # 13093.*

While on my way to a CITO event a little further down the road, I stopped by this one to have a bit of a look, I did intend on finding a few more around this area before hand but I didn't leave home early enough and ran out of time but I got this one in.
I do remember being here some time ago for another cache.

**Thanks to Benjamin Screamer for placing this cache.**

What a view from top of this Mount.. You Yangs ,Mr. Cottrell, Macedon Ranges. Even though it's a little bump in the landscape, affords a great view. But climbing the Mount was the easiest part of this challenge... counting the pickets was tricky as a (very) young couple decided it was the perfect place to make out. So I stood there debating what to do... look like a pervert and take photos, wait for them to finish( No hope of that) or come back..(No hope if that also as I need this to fill in a calendar date). So I took photos of the scenery(with fence in foreground). Snuck down the path then took pics of the fence begins their seat. They were too busy to notice this what do taking photos of them lol. As the CO commented when advising my numbers were correct..."the things we do for a cache"! Otherwise... thank you for bringing me here... note, decided not to include photo of pashing couple!!!
