Suscoe last stop before the descent to the coast.A nice photo opportunity but had to wait for a few tourists taking holiday snaps. Thanks to Geodude_ for this hide.Plenty of people in town enjoying lunch and walking about.
A day out in Robertson wouldn't be complete without a visit to this majestic structure, the jewel in the crown of the Southern Highlands!TFTC
Found it 11.40am out doing some cache maintenance, finding new caches and spying on our daughter whose test driving a new Volvo for her work, driving down Macquarie Pass and back. Today is turning into a nice day. The sun has come out even though there's an abundance of cloud around. Thanks for the Virtual.
OCW *Throsbyonchurch* and *Little Pather*. Running around finding some caches. Thanks for the cache placement of The Big Potato, Geodude. DustyJaperJet
I have been here on a few occasions but today am logging this find. Thank you Godude.
The humble and often belittled potato is in fact very important."Potatoes are a staple food in many parts of the world and an integral part of much of the world's food supply." WikipediaThe humble potato plus another cold weather vegetable - cabbage, kept millions of people alive during WWI and WWII.During the COVID pandemic, the first item grabbed off the shelves, as we all know was toilet paper. However, I observed a rush on buying potatoes. Who doesn't like eating chips? So, why all these poo jokes? (Dumb asses) LOLA nice easy virtual (as they all are). However, it represents something important.(No, not a piece of ...... )TFTV Geodude
Been pass here many times but first time today to get a selfie done TFTV Geodude!
I had a wonderful day caching with DanSue38 and Curliebunny666... a mixed bag of Trads, Earthcaches and Adventure Labs. We walked about 16km, talked about half a million words (all about geocaching... of course) and drank 3 cups of tea each!! Thank you to all the COs and my fantastic finding buddies for the day... you always make it fun After all that walking we made it to The Big Poo-tato... OK after that bad pun, I think we need some Pooh wisdom..."Some people care too much. I think it's called love." PoohIf the person you are talking to doesnt appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear. PoohIf there ever comes a day when we cant be together, keep me in your heart, Ill stay there forever. PoohIf you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you. PoohI wouldve liked for it to go on a while longer. PoohOne thing you should know, no matter where I go, well always be together. PoohPooh: What should happen if you forget about me? Christopher Robin: Silly old bear, I wont ever forget about you."Its so much more friendly with two. PoohI was walking along looking for somebody, and then suddenly I wasn't anymore. PoohPiglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. Pooh? he whispered.Yes, Piglet? Nothing, said Piglet, taking Poohs hand. I just wanted to be sure of you. A.A. MilneI wonder what Piglet is doing,' thought Pooh. 'Wish I were there to be doing it, too.' A.A. Milne"It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like, 'What about lunch?'" Pooh"Sometimes the smallest things take the most room in your heart." Pooh"When all else fails, take a nap." Winnie The Pooh"Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known." PoohRivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there someday. Pooh"Life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved." PoohPeople say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day. PoohDid you ever stop to think, and forget to start again? PoohTo the uneducated, an A is just three sticks. PoohI must go forward where I have never been instead of backwards where I have. PoohI wasnt going to eat it, I was just going to taste it. Pooh"It's the best way to write poetry, letting things come." Pooh"Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them." Pooh"It makes such a difference to have someone who believes in you." PoohPoetry and hums arent things which you get, theyre things which get you. And all you can do is to go where they can find you. PoohWhats wrong with knowing what you know now and not knowing what you dont know until later? PoohSome people talk to animals. Not many listen though. Thats the problem. PoohIm short and fat and proud of that! PoohIm not lost for I know where I am. But however, where I am may be lost. PoohJust because an animal is large, it doesnt mean he doesnt want kindness. PoohOne of the advantages of being disorganized is that one is always having surprising discoveries. Pooh"A day spent with you is my favorite day. So today is my new favorite day." Pooh"If you live to be 100, I want to live to be 100 minus one day so I never have to live without you." Pooh"You can't stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes." PoohA friend is someone who helps you up when youre down, and if they cant, they lay down beside you and listen. Pooh"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." Pooh"I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long. If we're in each other's dreams we can be together all the time." Pooh"It isn't much good having anything exciting, if you can't share it with somebody." Pooh"We will be friends until forever, just you wait and see." Pooh"A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside." Pooh"As soon as I saw you, I knew an adventure was going to happen." PoohPromise me youll never forget me because if I thought you would Id never leave. Pooh"Well be friends forever, wont we, Pooh?" asked Piglet. "Even longer," Pooh answered.""Laugh 'til your tummy hurts." Pooh"Home is the comfiest place to be. " Pooh"When life throws you a rainy day, play in the puddles." Pooh"We didnt realize we were making memories. We just knew we were having fun." Pooh"A hug is always the right size." PoohIt never hurts to keep looking for sunshine. PoohNobody can be uncheered with a balloon. PoohA day without laughter is a day wasted. PoohThe sun still shines, even when its hiding. PoohThanks for this fun virtual
Thanks Geodude! I agree its a bit awful but its also very cute. My family has always liked coming here because we are Robertsons.
Heading past after an overnight stay in the highlands for Fathers Day, dad stopped to show me the Big Potato. I guess it kind of looks like a potato...
Quite a slow drive from Nowra to here this morning, thick'ish fog made for a more cautious cruise along Moss Vale Road that's for sure. I'd checked pictures of GZ before arriving and the spud looked decidedly grey in all the pics I viewed. I was pleasantly surprised to see it much more aligned to the actual colour of a potato when I arrived. I snapped the obligatory selfie, nipped around the back for the trad, then continued my journey to Canberra. An interesting spot to visit and one I would not have detoured vie if not for the Ghost icon, so thanks for putting a virtual in a town with another big thing. I had no idea this was here. Cheers Geodude.
Stopped off to nab a snap of the big brown lump / doodoo / whatever, but its definitely not a spud. There's a far better one in NW Tassie where real potatoes are grown!
#14681 16:05Seriously, is that a potato? It looks more like a rusty old fuel tank. A good thing they put a sign next to it.TFTC Geodude
With an event at Cascade Falls, TikvaNZ and myself had an early departure from Canberra to attend. A few caches along the way, and of course, a few more around the area and on the way home. A lovely event to catch up with those there, then the very enjoyable walk to the falls. A beautiful area, I need to come this way more often. Thanks for your Virtual cache, I do love a Big Thing!
Found It!I wonder why they chose to paint it that poo brown colour? I wouldn't eat a potato if it was that colour. Maybe they were deliberately trying to get to the top of the worst big things list?TFTC
A nice day trip with Tankengine to attend the event at Cascade Falls and to cache around a little with friends. I have seen the photos and thought what an interesting sculpture. But really why??? And then I think, well why not and I love BIG things. So a quick photo, then off for a coffee to warm up a bit and more caching. Tftc!!!
Stopped into town on the way home from Wollongong with Baristayan and Toy Hunters, and had to check out the big spud!Bumped into a few of Canberras finest who had a similar idea to us after the event down the bottom of the escarpment.Geez youd get a few chips out of this fellawhat a beauty! Thanks Pic here with Baristyan.
Chooo ooo [Found] with dty73 and joolay on a day trip down the pass! Thanks Geodude__!
While passing through Robertson, we had to visit this big thing. Little Brew by the Big Spud. TFTV
Passing through Robertson on the way to the Illawarra Fly. Who can resist a stop at a "Big Something", and so another was added to my list. Thank you
Went in to Robbo today to collect something and decided to grab this virtual. Parked beside it and took a pic with my trusty purple caching pen as proof. Went in to get a delicious custard tart from the pie shop TFTVC
Decided to stop and pick this up on the way home. Looking forward to a warmer weekend enjoying the lovely Wollongong area with Kittykatch. Thanks for getting me out and about Geodude__
TFTC smile20021 Out and about on a Sunny day with muggle twin sister on our way to Moss Vale for my grandson wedding, signed as GS1947 on small logs FP Thank you Geodude__ for placing this cache for our enjoyment
Have been to this grand edifice one time or more in the past. The only consolation is a trip to the Robertson Pie Shop for a great apple pie. Well done Geodude
I love roast spud. I love roast spudI love roast spud. I love roast spud.Heading to Wollongong after a big week at the mega Geo Bash in Canberra. Need a rest but more cashes wait for us. Thanks for the cache and the fun!
Being a kid friendly cache I did not want to put two potatoe heads in the one shot. My head blends in pretty well dont you think Found on the Mega Capital Geobash coastal loop via Adelaide - Barrington - coast to Mexico City loop. A lot of caches and white line fever was sweated out. Thanks Geodude__ and clear skies from TeamAstro. A quick photo stop here while heading to Canberra for this weekend's Mega via a round about sort of route. Doesn't much look like a potato to me, but who am I to say. Thanks for showing me this curiosity.
No matter how you take it , the way you look at it the giant spud isnt the best looking thing Ive seenI loooove potatoes so Im pretty disappointed in this one lolDay 15 were now chasing caches around Canberra for the Easter 2024 Geobash. Thanks Geodude__ for bringing us here,, contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy.
By I visited this Virtual cache as I travelled from Adelaide, up to Sydney to deal with some personal business matters then back down to Canberra for the Mega event over Easter. It has been great to be able to get back out on the road again, travelling and camping on my own. The weather is good too!I have identified some caches of interest and am taking a rather circuitous route, hoping to find as many targets as possible in the relatively short time available. So many caches; so little time!I followed the STOA voting for the worst big thing in Australia. But I never really knew exactly where this one was. Now I know. And all I can say is it is incredibly underwhelming and certainly deserving of its award. Big things are generally pretty awful, but this one certainly takes the cake! Thanks e.Geodude__ for the cache. And a favourite point, not only for alerting me to the whereabouts of this giant turd, but for a straightforward Virtual cache with simple logging requirements. Well done!
Enroute to Canberra via a few extra locations, we are staying overnight in lovely Robertson. We went for a short walk to locate your cache. Thanks Geodude__ for your cache and for contributing to a great weekend.
Well, that was a rather sizeable potato. Thanks for setting it up and encouraging us to stop.
A quick stop along the way to see the big potato. Thanks for placing this virtual cache.
Required photo attached. Didnt know about this virtual the first time we went to the Big Potato, but found it after scrolling around on the map one day. Hence, attached is a photo of us at the big potato (originally taken on 14 July 2018), from our first visit there.Impressively big potato it is. Impressively brown too. Thanks for the virtual --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their long lasting, and ongoing connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to Traditional Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
We where at an art opening across the road and I couldn't resist this cache. Thanks Geodude
Just after Christmas in 2019 a small group of friends and I were scheduled to complete a 3 day hike to visit the top 10 peaks in Kosciuszko National Park. At that stage I was already in Canberra visiting relatives and about to head off to Sydney to pick up my compatriots from the airport when word came of the bush fires erupting in the Snowy Mountains. It was not long after that the dreaded news was announced that the park had been closed, ending any hopes of completing our walk. Dejectedly we made our way back home to Queensland. Thanks to Covid, border closures, injuries and operations it has taken another 4 years for the opportunity to arise to reprise our plans. After what has seemed an eternity, I finally left Brisbane yesterday lunchtime for the long drive down to Canberra, and reached just north of Wollongong before finding a suitable place to stop and sleep in my car overnight. This morning I was up before sunrise to visit some of the local caches, before continuing the remainder of the drive to Canberra airport to rendezvous with the rest of my hiking group. My route this morning took me directly past this cache after an enjoyable drive up through Macquarie Pass and a stop at the world's most expensive pie shop just down the road. Some muggles were taking their own photos at GZ when I arrived so I had to wait for them to move on before taking my own. TFTC
Had a great day in Robertson with my sister - eating, swimming and sightseeing. We even had chips made from Robertson potatoes. TFTC
On the way to Jamberoo, snapped a quick pick while driving by. Idk why the geocaching app keeps rotating my photos 90 degrees. TFTC!
GAP YEAR BIG LAP - PART 2: THE ROAD TRIP - Day 26Passing through Robertson on our way from Kangaroo Valley to Kiama & back for the day visiting a heap of waterfalls & things along the way. Can't go past a Big thing so this was a great one to add to the list. I agree, it's not the best representation of a potato but it still attracts attention & that is the purpose of Big Things. Had a look through the great vintage shop across the road while in town & of course the short rainforest walk to score the AL as well.#3869 @ 1410hTFTC Geodude_????
Find Number 2773 found at 14:35. Today we found 1 cache, 0 Adventure Lab stages and had 0 DNFs. Vistiting our son for his birthday at Robertson, we just had to stop at the Big Potato. Attached photo shows us in front ot the spud. Thanks Geodude__ for the cache.
#21551 @1245A day trip to Sydney from Canberra to pick my son up from the airport. Cached my way there. Photo attached. TFTC.
A quick stop on our way to wingdang fishing hopefully collecting some Lga's along Drive
We will spend a night in Robertson and as we went to the grocery store we discovered the big potato.
**Found Sunday 07-January-2024 at 11:43 Smiley #2304**Wow, I have slowly just been finding caches, signing logs, logging drafts and simply forgetting about these and never actually logging them. My sincerest apologies to the relevant CO's, especially if I found issues with them and didn't do anything about them.Unfortunately my drafts were also designed to jog my memory about the cache to assist with the logging process. Doesn't work when some of them are over 2 years old. Here comes some generic comments. Once again, I apologise Rogersclan big Christmas trip away. At these logs are only a couple of months old now. Couldnt find the near traditional so were glad we could tick this off. Cache logs are either stamped, signed with Rogersclan13 or just RC13 for space. Thanks for the cache **Geodude__** Rogersclan13
Today I embarked on a day trip to Jamberoo Action Park with 6 mates for some thrilling fun! Geocaching wasn't on my mind as I had others in my car, but the Big Potato ended up being a talking point as we passed through Robertson on the drive this morning, mostly due to it being voted as one of Australia's worst "Big Things".Well of course we had to pass it again this evening as we were heading home after a long day, and because this is a special "Virtual" type, I remembered in the back of my mind about this cache existing. So decided to check how difficult it would be and when I noticed it was just a simple photo I decided I better grab it! My mates were happy to watch my antics as I pulled up in the nearby carpark, jumped out and went over to take a photo with this famously horrible potato. We were back on the road again and I ended up with a cache find on what was meant to be a cacheless day, not the first time! Thanks Geodude_ for the virtual!
Day trip to the Highlands with Sharanyaexpress and family. After lunch at Moonacres across the street, we took a quick stroll to see Robertson's famous monument. Thanks for the virtual.
Stopped here on the way to Carrington falls and Kaima together with corjam11 and wilbert67. TFTC

Christmas morning and a drive from Canberra to Wollongong to catch up with some family and spend a few days there. As we arrived in the southern highlands area, it became quite misty this morning, and there were moments of rain along the drive today. This was not enough to stop us from visiting the big potato along the way. A lovely virtual, highlighting yet another big thing in Australia. Thanks Geodude__Domsky
#18824 - 1:10:00 PM; After a few days in Kiama, it was time to head for home. Arrived in Gerringong only to find our favourite breakfast spot is closed on Mondays . Found another nice cafe nearby and after breakfast, collected a few caches in and around the town. It was then time to head back up the hill and stopped off for some fruit and veg in Robertson, so grabbed a snap for this cache on the way through. TFTC Geodude__
An unusual addition to the list of BIG things weve seen during this trip. Weve seen the big Kangaroo in Charleville, the big Hairy-nosed Wombat in Thallon, the big watermelon slice in Chinchilla, the big Rooster in Capalaba, the big bucket and spade in Wynnum and now the BIG potato in Robertson!
Found on a daytrip from Canberra to Robertson with sebass19. Attention to all future visitors to the Southern Highlands: bring Aerogard or Deet to avoid ticks! I had 2 latch onto me today, thankfully I had special tick tweezers. I was surprised to find them in this part of the world!.Australia's best and worst big thing. Is it a turd or a potato? We decided to come geocaching in Robertson this weekend not just for a pie but to see this iconic attraction. I really like how this has a really simple logging requirement. TFTC Geodude_!
A quick stop to snap the required photo before heading home.
Thanks for the virtual Geodude.

The kids and I spent some time in Robertson on Sunday, enjoying the musical styling of Shard and Jess at the Robbo Pub. We decided afterwards to go for a stroll so the kids could finally enjoy the BIG thing that is the Big Potatoe, truly the worst of the BIG things.
My son filled me with joy when he told me what he thought it looked like. I won't repeat his sentiments, but I am sure if you think about it... not too hard... you can guess.
The kids had a great time running around the area, playing hide and seek around the hedges. Great place for a stroll!

Started my agenda with this Virtual type during an Icon Challenge run in the Highlands today, after an unexpected detour via Jamberoo when I noticed last minute Macquarie Pass would be closed till late afternoon. Quick stop for photo and I was on to more icons… and more roadwork delays throughout my travels.
