Approached the Kilns and were wondering where to start looking when a voice from the top asked us if we were geocaching, so we asked how they had got to the top and then the cache was well found. Interesting ruins here, most enjoyable area. TFTC!
For years each time we drove north we passed this park, but with traffic how it was at the Dog's Leg the thought of trying to get into and back out of the carpark was the stuff nightmares are made of. Now that SH1 has that nice, fancy, motorway to bypass Warkworth I thought we might give it a try. Finding the kilns was no problem at all thanks to a signpost in the carpark, but we couldn't spot the hint items. Never mind there is another cache further down the track, so we went there first and tried this on the way back. Being the multitasker that I am we were finding a waypoint for the new AdLab at the same time, and luckily that gave me a clue of somewhere to look for this cache. The ground was very muddy, so I warned Daddypig to stay away from the edge. The trees were slowing down my gps, but I spotted the hint item. But no sign of a cache. We were about to give up when suddenly I put my hand on something that wasn't barbed wire for once. And next thing I knew I had a bison in my hand. Also got the answer to the AdLab!
Have never been in here before so really strugggled to find anything that remotely matched the hint. Needed a big nudge to get there & even then finding it was tricky. Glad to get a smiley here. Defo favourite for the tricky hide. [TFTC]
Climbed up to this one, remember coming here for another cache a long time ago with ADV maybe? I remember adv throwing his old batteries into the bushes from his gps making a comment how there was so much litter around anyway....Almost missed this one - I wasn't thinking of the right line. A random photo toMany thanks
Another clever cache hide by G-2, thank you. It was on our sunset family walk we found it
We have driven past here many times and seen the carpark but didn't realise what was here, so when we finally stopped and had a look around today we were pleasantly surprised.Really interesting history here and we enjoyed reading the information boards, and the cache description. Much like the CO Mr Coblet was very keen to find buried treasure as a child but was sadly unsuccessful, however he did bury some himself and somewhere out there is a treasure trove of farm animals, soldiers and other miscellaneous items. Unfortunately he was an expert at burying them but not at finding them again so they remain lost or, as he would prefer to say, "temporarily unavailable".But despite the unavailability of his childhood treasure we did manage to find this sneaky cache as we explored the lime kilns. Very nicely placed, we almost missed it.Thanks G2 for the history, the fun and for bringing back Mr Coblet's suppressed memories of lost treasure.
Such a clever hide. I was looking right where it was for some time before I finally spotted it! Nearly got my hand stuck before I spotted something to help me and the hint clicked haha.
My second visit. My second dnf. Nice and dry area to search and no muggles on Xmas day to check the most obvious spot.
2132. 2:42 pm. Good to see a cache placement here again. We noticed that there had been a few DNFs when we started our walk so I wasn't too hopeful. Thankfully eKitten spotted this tricky hide before I got to the hint item. TFT(ruins)C.
I'm off to Auckland today to spend the weekend with the my grown up kids and their families who live down there. One of our plans is to join the Auckland Geocachers on Saturday morning for a walk in the Waitakere Ranges.
I'm very short of points for this month's souvenir challenge so today I'm hoping to collect a good 250 points. With tomorrow's tally I'll be within reach of my target.
The family run a limeworks. We only get it out of the hills and crush it for farmers rather than run a kiln like these. Great to see them. I've been here twice already looking for this cache and finally saw a video to get a hint for this one. Very pleased to sign this one off today. Thanks for the hide

What a lovely intro to our caching day in Warkworth. It was an early morning walk in the park for us, but we were maybe still half asleep as nothing seemed to gel. Checked on the first level - nope, must be the other level - nope, maybe we missed something first time around? Back for a more thorough look - nope, that's ruled out then, back to the other level. Hmmm what haven't we done here yet?? It HAS to be here. Our hero is on his knees -?praying. Nope, delighted. GOT it! Why didn't we see that before? Cache is all good. TFTC
I'm on a week's annual leave, choosing to spend time travelling north to visit and reconnect with a few friends up here, and naturally that also gives me an opportunity to do some caching up this way again. Today is day 4, which involves driving south from Kaiwaka to Auckland.
I was here in early March 2020 to attend the wedding of some friends. This is the first time I've spent time here since then so it was a good chance to stop and look for this new cache since then.
There was a huge feeling of Deja-Vu as I walked towards this one. I'm sure I found a cache at this location a few years ago. Anyway, it didn't take me log to spot this nicely hidden cache. No issues here, and I was able to sign the log and replace as found before setting off back to the car.
Thanks for placing this one.

Mr rattll was queuing for the dump station, so I popped over for a quick cache.
What a fascinating piece of history here.
I soon figured where i needed to be. Although the gps was reluctant to zero in completely, the clue left me in no doubt.
But boy did it take me a long time to spot it.
I did my initial sweep of the area (or man look as I would like to call it), then went over it again more thoroughly - still nothing! Another try - nope. Then the old fail proof, 'I'll give it one last try, then I'm quitting' - bingo - there it was.
Thanks for putting a cache at this fascinating spot.

Excellent hint with a double meaning perhaps. I had found the previous cache here as well. An interesting diversion to GeoRick's Travels.
The elder future finder and I are heading North to visit family for the day. However, we hit car troubles climbing the hill into Warkworth. I limped the car to a farmers gate where we could park off the road. A restart and we seemed to have regained normal forward motion. But, with a couple of warning lights on I decided to get us to the rest stop in Warkworth and reassess the situation. A bit of research and another restart after letting the car sit for a bit and the warning lights went off and we were all set to hit the road again. But not before a collected this hide, since we were parked so close anyway. I had watched a certain video on a certain youtube channel recently so this was a super quick find after I jogged to GZ. Funny thing is, I didn't realise this was a reiteration of the previous hide, while watching the video. It was only later that I noted that it was a new hide at a previously visited spot. Cheers for the cache (re)placement!
Out geocaching and filming today. Great place for a cache. Such an interesting location. Tricky hide. Thanks G-2.
This was a lovely spot to come and I think I was lucky to find it quickly as it is nicely hidden. Thanks for bringing me here as it has been some time since the last visit. Cheers
It wasn't that long ago that I found the previous cache here. This one proved a little trickier, despite the explicit hint 4 of us took longer to spy this one than we should have!
Very cool fun was had with lots of laughs on a sunny day, finding some newish caches with our team of 4 from West Auckland!
I always enjoy exploring these ruins...and walking the lovely bush tracks here.
Thanks Glyn for a reason to come back.
Even though there were 4 pairs of eyes, somehow , even with the very explicit clues , we made it harder than it was!
Don't ask!
Thanks G-2.....was very pleased when I finally crouched down and saw what we had all been hunting for!

Heading home from a day trip to Langs beach
with S/N, Merlot58 and Nette. Can’t remember visiting these ruins before, so was keen to stop and check them out and find the cache.
This one took much longer that it should have done. S/N got down low and checked a place the rest of us had checked out, and found this sneaky cache. TFTC

Was about to pour a cuppa after dinner cleanup when GAR said that there was a new cache I'm Warkworth. Ok, Sunday, no work, late in the summer (probably no traffic at this time of night), and 10 minutes away... a no-brainer - of course we were going to go! Haven't walked here of late because the park has been closed. At GZ we looked where we expected to find the cache but didn't see it. A wider look and back to initial spot. Came from a different angle and what do you know? Exactly what we were looking for in pretty much the spot we thought it would be! A blank log too (you just never know right?) and an {FTF} for us! Thanks for the, again, unexpected adventure this evening G-2! Now to find the other new one nearby ...
