What a nice little island! We've passed it a few times the last few days. Today the low tide time suited our plans. Found a few muggles nearby trying to catch eels. Kid1 went on his own little adventure, was at the cache in no time, and more than happy to sign the log! TFTC!

A bit of an adventure today, trying to get a few more on the D/T grid. This one was right next to where Glen was helping with some catering and had been on my list for a while. Glen decided to head to the island while I stayed ashore for safety and due to the cuts on my feet from a previous cache. He decided to head over from the other side so walked under the bridge, half way there I realised he didn't have a pen. That's OK, we can work it out! He was out of sight for a bit, so I kept calling to make sure he was fine, all good, just being slow and steady. Soon I saw him popping up on to the island. He quickly spotted where the old cache was and thought it had been dropped, I had his phone as he didn't want it getting wet, so I was reading notes and calling out to let him know that it had been replaced and was elsewhere! He soon spotted the cache in the new location...now to sign the log!I had all the pens, but they were a little too light and small to guarantee the throw. This meant some improvising. Glen found a reasonable size branch, but we had nothing to tie the pen too, so I asked him to throw it over saying I would work something out. Fortunately the branch broke easily enough that I could jam the pen in and launch it, cautiously, over to the island. The log was all signed and it was time for the slow and steady walk back to shore, the long way around with the tide coming in.At one point he slipped and nearly went over backwards, but managed to stay upright! But it did make me glad that he wasn't doing it alone. Thanks for cache and the mini adventure. #1917

Sorry it took so long !Here this morning at low tide with my gumboots on....Have replaced on a different tree as the original one was close to a pukekos nest who was squawking loudly at me.No need to change co ords...one of two skinny trees...with the prickly leaves!Did a rubbish pick up while here!Left trolley for another day to get out when I have helpers .....

I hadn't even planned to attempt this cache today but I was so close by and realised the water level wasn't too high - and I had been in the water all day anyway teaching a safe boating course to kids - so I decided why not. It was pretty easy to make my way to GZ over the slippery rocks and squelchy mud. I arrived at a likely hiding spot and found two things: a nest of eggs (not sure if they are duck eggs or pkeko eggs, seeing as there were several of both wandering around the island) and a broken zip tie and metal loop exactly where the hint suggested the cache would be. Took some photos to send to the CO, and she has given me permission to log it when it is replaced. So a write note for now until then, and thanks for the adventure! Smile

Some time ago we visited the Islands in the Stream with Team Welsh but the water level was far too high to attempt to access the cache. We figured that today would be a good time to try after the run of dry weather, with the bonus of a low tide as well. We met up with Team Welsh at the side of the stream, and she had already spotted the cache. We chose the driest access to the island, and pretty soon reached the spot where the cache was hanging. A slight hiccup when the pen in hand would not write on the paper, but another was tossed across and the logsheet signed. Thanks for a fun little adventure. I'm sure the muggled sitting reading nearby was wondering what on earth we were up to.

This one has been on the radar for quite some time and KC and myself have visited here before but the water level was just too high. Today the time of the tide was just right to suit us both and we arranged to meet nearby. Busy, busy place this morning so parked some distance away and made the stroll to GZ. We could spy what we were looking for from the bank which was great as only a pen needed to be carried over. After careful negotiation across the islands GZ was reached. Pen choose not to work so another was thrown over from the path and a good throw it was too. Formalities completed it was time to retrace steps and on to the next cache. Many thanks for the company Mr and Mrs KC and for being part of the adventure. Thanks for the cache placement

What a great turnout supernanny! Had so much fun, I wish I could give this a second FP! Here are some fotos for anyone wanting to copy them for themselves. Nice to see your other caches getting a hit, and my mystery cache gets hit quite rarely, but today it had a few visitors. Thanks for hosting the event.

A large group of us came over after a nearby event. There was a bit of water to navigate but were able to do so in relative easy. Once on the island we made our way to GZ where the cache was already being signed. Then a quick photo of the nest and it was back to the mainland. Happy to have done and to be back without falling over. Thank you for the placement and the adventure and the fun of doing it in a group. The onlookers on shore broke out in their version of the song "Islands in the stream". It was nice but I do not think they should give up their day jobs.

After attending the nearby New Year event a large group of us made our way over to this cache. However, after the heavy rain last night, the low tide wasn't as low as we had hoped for, but that didn't stop the group. Some of the younger members had a lot of fun in the water. Nice to finally get this signed off and I'll have to return with my niece and nephews so they can experience the adventure.

#10935:And now for the big task of the day - island hopping! When I read the plan to find this cache, I packed my bag with jandals and a towel in preparation. I love an adventurous cache, and secretly love getting mucky and wet.I decided to let a few caches go before me to act as guinea pigs for the river's depth. Turns out it wasn't as deep as it looked! So I threw my trainers off and headed in. It was careful going around the first island, before clambering up the muddy bank of the second. There was now a line of us on this small island, and the log was slowly passed down to me at the back.Glad to say I didn't fall in or get any of my clothes wet! Gorby's car interior is safe for another day... This was a fantastic and fun cache, many thanks for placing! I will give it a favourite point when I next have one available. TFTC.

Last year on this day some of Team SEAC crew embarked upon a hike to kick start the year and knock off some unfinished business at the summit. This year we decided to go with a more leisurely plan. We parked up a Tui Glen and rode along the cycleways to Westgate, stopped for some lunch and then rode back to Tui Glen in time for the event. Another fun day out for sure!!Well seeing as I hadn't read the cache page correctly I had no idea this was planned but it was super fun with everyone. Thanks for the cache.

Nothing like a nice warm dry day, a relatively low tide and some company to give me the confidence to tackle this. Not being the first in helped gauge the best way in and determine the water height. A perfect cache to do in a group. Nice placement Supernanny.

The traditional Team SEAC January 1st caching day. Get the year started with a hiss and a roar. We threw our bikes into cars and headed to Tui Glenn Reserve with intentions of biking through to Westgate for lunch then returning for the New Years day event nearby. After the event everyone was going to head to this cache so we thought would be rude not to join. I of course jumped right on in and was joined by sharkbait2013 and crossed to the Island. I started at the wrong object and with shouts from the mainland sharkbait2013 soon had the cache in hand. Right next to GZ was a nest with a few eggs in them..... not sure what bird it was but just reading previous logs it appears they were duck eggs. Thanks for this awesome adventure SuperNanny and a fav point awarded!! even if I did stub my toe making the treacherous crossing!TFTC

Fun find with the group, thanks for the hide supernannny

After attending the nearby event, it was mentioned that a group find was planned after to find this cache.Well I was keen, it is nearly low tide they said , so I watched sharkbait2013, NZtravellers and pazza make their way, so decided why not Surprisingly warm and not too deep. A little scramble to the top and the cache was already found and the log being signed.A fun find, thanks supernannny for the hide, and I see recent maintenance too.

We went on to this cache with the group that gathered at supernannys new year event. This was so much fun watching everyone scramble threw the water, def not one to do at full river flow, it was above knee for me. We brought in the rear in adding our names to this cache. Go carefully as there was a nest of big eggs to ms 5 delight. TFTC

After Supergrannys event we went over here to find the cache. Hubbie braved the water and wases across, signing the log. Tftc. Now the song has purpose

M25 and m14: attended the new year geoevent and had a good time with the cache community. After that, we decided to have a group find for this specific cache.M14 stepped up with many others to walk through the water, which was low tide, so no towel needed. Not only was the cache in sight but they also saw a nest of eggs nearby. Nice easy challenge cache of a find, log all good and signed here. TFTC.

Visited my cache tonight to sort out the broken cable tie!Great adventure! The cache was at the base of the tree...The paper was a bit wet....So I put out a new cache and paper which may work better.Changed the elevation in case we have more floods....Above head height now. Also saw a nest of duck eggs nearby! The new cache is easier to spot.. .As I went back, the tide had risen, and my boots were soon full of water!Plus, I got muddy jeans slithering down the second Island....All good fun but a bit scarey as it was suddenly dark!

Hey! We found your cache today. Just letting you know that the cable tie was ripped and the cache was laying next to the tree so we put it back where we found it.

After attending the CO's event out in Swanson and collecting her caches along the Opanuku Walkway I decided to head over here and take a look at this intriguing hide (and to extend my walk with the nearby adventure lab). I parked up and walked over to the "stream". The coordinates and information on the cache page made it clear as to where ground zero was; so close yet so far. I contemplated my options and decided that the tide was low enough to make an attempt.

I was able to make my way from the mainland to the first island via a log debris raft from the recent floods. I was then able to make my way along the western side of the first island by walking atop a decent sized log. The gap between the two islands had much less debris and required some wading to cross. I used a stick to help balance me against the current as I waded through the shin deep water; wet boots it will have to be. Once across I was confronted with a steep bank, the most challenging obstacle so far. Luckily, I was able to make the ascent onto the second Island without to much bother. A short walk bought me to GZ where the cache was quickly found. Now to get back to the shore by the same route I took coming to GZ.

A very enjoyable little adventure in an urban setting suppernanny. Even if I did have to take a seat at the nearby park bench and empty my boots of water and wring out my socks. Favourite point applied! Cheers for the challenging cache placement!

This is such a great hide Supernanny, I'm so amazed the cache is still there after all that savage flooding we had! I still have this on my watchlist to see who comes here.

AlunB was staying at Tui Glen so I messaged him to see if he wanted to do this nearby cache as it was a lunchtime low tide. I initially tried going to the left of the first island but got stabbed in the leg by debris so that wasn’t a smart move. Wading through the ankle deep water to the right was the better option and we soon arrived at gz and made the find. A fun adventure that wasn’t as tricky as I thought it would be. We’d just made it back to the path when the CO arrived so had a nice catch up.

I was staying at the nearby motorhome park, and when merlot58 txt'd me this morning asking if I wanted join her to tackle this cache at low tide today I was certainly keen. So we met up just after midday and headed over to a likely looking spot to attempt the crossing. Being low tide the water was only ankle deep, and we were soon at the GZ, before making a nice easy find at the location as described. As we were retracing our steps the CO arrived to see how we were going and grab a couple of photos of our little mini adventure here today. Once back on shore we chatted some more while noting the large amount of debris that still remained from the recent heavy flooding, before heading off. A cool cache, and great fun to tick this off today, thanks for setting this up supernanny.

No maintenance was needed!

As it was low tide today I came prepared with shorts and beach shoes .
Water was only ankle height...

Very easy to walk over and the cache was still there...
It is a larger than normal bison type container with a cable tie securing it.
Don't be worried about the terrain rating...when you get to the correct island, it is a short clamber but there are small shrubs to hold on to .
There is little bit of dead gorse to climb over.
Almost a park and grab.
You will just need a change of footwear.

04-Apr-23
All good.
Come at low tide .

Disabling this until I am able to safely ascertain whether the cache is still tethered to the tree in the island.
There is a lot of tree debris around the two islands here ...

I'll be back another day.

My eyes have always been on this cache ever since it came out, but once the FTF was gone, I've been waiting for a moment to turn this T4 into an EPIC T5 Cool. Many ideas were running through my head - Doing this at night, creating a raft and riding it down the stream or even building some crazy bridge across to the island with some friends! Today however, I was itching to go out and find a cache, but the weather was pretty miserable... I hit up the forecast and it stated "Possible thunderstorms and torrential rain developing mid-afternoon". Sweet, sounds like the perfect time to find this cache, I told myself Wink

It was pretty neat, because this was the first geocache I've ever driven myself to! It'll probably be the last too, as I love biking, but it didn't make sense to ride 60+km return in this weather. Parked up on Takapu St but OMG - When I opened the door, the floodgates ripped open and I knew I was in for a wild one! What was concerning was that I was wearing ordinary "Going out" clothes, without any spare clothes or a towel -__- Within a couple minutes, I was pretty drenched, so when I arrived at the stream, I was ready to rip into action Razz

After a good survey of the area, I was extremely excited and so I made my way around to the rocks nearest "Island 1". Slipped off my shoes and went barefeet, but WOW - I couldn't believe how unbearably FREEZING the water temperature was. I kept pushing though and eventually made it to Island 1, where I scaled the banks around to the other side. With the rain only getting louder, heavier and more intense, it only added to the fun. From there, I gapped it across to GZ, but I was shocked at the depth of the water... It was up to my waist and I'm a pretty tall person.

Once I reached Island 2, I hauled myself up and it took a few minutes of searching before I eventually found the nicely tucked away cache Smile Whipped out my pen, but it could barely write anything on the log due to all the rain! I managed to write 11/7 in red pen with the letters "RJ" at the bottom very vaguely. Hope that'll suffice!

On my return, I wanted to snap some photos but with 1 person, it's actually really tricky. I attempted to climb to the top of the tree on the north side of the island, but it was incredibly slippery and there was nowhere to place my phone :/ But I turned around and spotted an insanely cool log popping out of the water... When I tried getting up, I slipped off and fell straight back into the water - Now I was "Officially" soaked. With my phone, wallet, and keys in my pocket, it wasn't good. Anyway, in the end I climbed up and got a pretty cool photo Smile You can see all the raindrops in the water too!

Supernannny - Thank you so much for providing this awesome experience for me... I loved all the challenges I faced and the intrepid adventure. FP awarded! Please keep placing these types of hides Big GrinBig Grin. Afterwards I enjoyed a soggy ride home, awaiting a nice, warm shower! TFTC

I saw this cache come out, but decided to leave it and just see who might go for it before me, I only had to wait one day then it was Ric and Jan who went for the ftf. It was quite the adventure I saw, the C.O posted fotos on FB and I thought I'd like to do this today.

I had to take my car into Pitstop on Moselle Ave to get my muffler looked at, so took the car in at 9:30am then walked to this cache. Along the way, I messaged supernanny to tell her I was going to have a go myself, well... little did I know she turned up just I got started in the stream.

In the water I went, ankle deep to start with and I had my water shoes on that I carried along in my backpack. I had rolled up my track pants, but they soon got wet anyway. I wasn't worried, I was having a ball on this little adventure already. Supernanny took fotos as I went and sent them to me later. Once I slipped and slid to GZ, I soon saw the correct prickly Totara tree (more than one on this tiny island). The lovely bison revealed it's prize and I held it up for a foto by the C.O.

So after putting the cache back I said to supernanny I'd try the direct approach back to the mainland, the water was quite deeper here and it was up to my hips, wow, that's cold on the family jewels...lol. I couldn't climb back up the very wet and slippery bank so carried on downstream to where I came in and got out that way.

By now, it was pouring with rain! So now I'm really wet. So supernanny (who managed to stay dry) offered to take me home to save walking there rather wet, thank you for that Helen! I left a small wet puddle on her floor of her car... the things we do while caching.

Thanks for the hide supernanny, it was soo much fun and a definite FP from me for the mini adventure.

A plan with Rick was hatched at our walking group to tackle this adventure.
One hour either side of low tide and wearing of beach shoes (just in case of broken glass) is a good idea.
At the end of the boardwalk railing we made our way down to the rocks.
Across to the first island, only knee deep.
Around the inside of the island and across a natural bridge. A little scramble up the second island. A joint {FTF} A great adventure in the middle of Henderson.
Fav point

Was out walking today with Nette and the CO. This had to be at the top of our list, however , yesterday's Storm and downpour made life difficult.
We had a mini conference and decided that Island hopping was the way to go. With a bit of care and balance we negotiated our way with only knee deep water and a little climb. Soon found for joint {FTF} and a great adventure. A Fav.

Whooops...Ric tells me it's on a Totara tree sorry!

Supernannny had mentioned that she wanted to place a cache on one of the islands in the stream, and MrsJAG joined in for the adventure. We were fortunate to find parking close to gz (as this carpark can be very busy) and soon made our way down to the stream towards gz. We both managed to clamber over the wet and slippery logs and made it to dry land.
Once we were on the island, we were disappointed to see a number of discarded cans and bottles from previous party goers. We piled them up as we wanted to take them off the island with us, but we didn't have a bag to put them in!!!
While S/N took coordinate readings at gz, MrsJAG managed to throw all of the bottles and cans over to the other side of the river - missing the concrete path and picnic table. When we returned from the island we collected up the bottles and cans and discarded them in a nearby bin.
FP for a fun adventure Smile
