Finished work for the day, so perfect timing on a Sunday afternoon to pick up a few cache on the way home. Found it pretty quickly but was not easy to access. Improvised with something found nearby and was able to sign the log and send cache back to where it was found. Great work TFTC

Always good to get a sidetracked cache. This particular station has a lot of happy memories for me from ye olde days. I see maintenance is going to happen for this cache and I found it in a right mess. Had to climb up which I was not dressed for at all and then climb down and find a natural TOTT to help, then climb back up. The log was very wet although its waterproof paper. I had to sign with a normal pen or my pink one would just run on this. Ive returned the cache but since I dont know how it should be, I dont know how to properly put it back sorry. I see the potential though so Ill give you a FP. Sidetracked #362 for me.

Awesome cache !! Great hide TFTC

Cache container and log are both in good condition and ready to be found

25-Aug-24
Checked on the cache.Have completed some repairs to the mechanism. Its not perfect yet and will complete the final repairs soon, however the cache can still be found and the log signed with the mechanism partially working. You may need to climb to the lowest branch to retrieve until the next maintenance, which will happen within the next month.

We are back from overseas and will complete a maintenance run soon

I was in Melbourne for half a day of work today. I dropped Mrs Dromaniax off at work in the CBD and had around four hours to cache before I needed to be at work.Today, while driving around the suburbs, I targeted Earthcaches, a few Sidetracked, and other miscellaneous caches. We parked near this one and were reminded of spending a lot of time in this area as a teenager.I found the cache reasonably quickly, but I suspect it was not in its proper place. I sent a message to the CO.Apart from that, the cache was dry as a bone, and I loved the container.Thank you for this Sidetracked Traditional veevers12.

24-Jun-24
Cache needs maintenance, not very well hidden. I can fishing line that may have something to do with it, but its swinging free at the moment. TFTC

Found it. Cute find!

04-Apr-24
I found the container (not in the original location I gather) but no log?

16-Mar-24
I needed to make a late night visit to the supermarket ahead of some adventures tomorrow, so I decided to swing past this cache on the way.I arrived at GZ to a more residential area than I was expecting (and after properly reading the attributes now that I am home, I see that I was duly warned!).I managed to sneak into GZ without attracting attention and spotted the cache straight away as it appears to be in a damaged state. The cache and log itself are fine, but the intended experience is not as it should be and the cache is hanging in plain sight. Plain sight of anyone hanging around in the bushes that is, which is definitely not recommended at night, as the CO has clearly pointed out!!!! (Sorry again!).Thanks veevers12 for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy. -Are you ready to nominate in the 2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards? Happy New Year! First cache of the day and first cache of the year! Cute cache - not sure if it was quite in the place where it was supposed to be, but we left it pretty much as we found it. TFTC!

A nice little train cache even though we didnt catch the train to get here. Razzcatnap777 and I are both fairly new to sidetracked caches, but find ourselves enjoying them and looking for more. CoolWe can always use another "other". WinkTFTC ververs12. Big GrinThe log in this one was a little moist but very signable. Smile

10-Oct-23
Cache found and log signed with dalerious Razz on an impromptu trip to the big smoke. We realised that we needed a heap of "other" cache size attributed caches, so we decided to hit as many Sidetracked series as we had time for.Awesome series, thank you veevers for another other Big Grin.

05-Oct-23
This one was notable for leaving my umbrella at the station on a wet afternoon. However, managed to find the little feller and signed the log so not a total disaster. TFTC veevers12

Found by The Empire + H Darebin is a quintessential example of a modern commuter's gateway to the bustling city. Located within the Darebin area, this station serves as a vital connection point for residents traveling to Melbourne's central business district and beyond.Approaching Darebin train station, one is greeted by the sight of a sleek, contemporary building that seamlessly blends with the surrounding urban landscape. The station's design is a reflection of Melbourne's commitment to providing efficient and comfortable transportation for its residents. Thanks for cache veevers12.- MSideTracked #34

Not entirely sure I found the cache in the spirit in which it was placed but got it signed none the less. Put the cache back in a similar position to where I found it.
Loved the container, makes getting a tight log out so simple.

*Twelfth Day Of Cachemas Adventure #5*
Out for a pleasant day of caching on the bike. Well... It was pleasant when we parked! Wait, the sun's back out.
As mentioned previously, winding isn't happening. For those who follow, be gentle and open from the red end!
Thanks heaps for the cache, veevers12!

Searching, climbing, searching, climbing.

Found it! Says Aysen, right on the ground. This one might need a fix, nice concept.

03-Jun-23
2nd time lucky! The first time we came at night and it was all twisted up. Luckily with a little climb we could get it down this time. Thanks for constructing this one.

27-May-23
Amazing little find, love the innovation! Tftc!

Out and about clearing out some more of the sidetrack series. Interesting piece of green space. Easy find but how to get it down...now how to get it back. Love the container. Thanks for the cache veevers12

This one of the few sidetracked caches I have done so far and by far the most fun so far. I can see why it has so many favourite points and I’ll add one more. We loved the cache.

The afternoon's fun and games started at Rosanna Station, then n0w0rries and I took a trip out to start an Adventure Lab at Queenstown Cemetery, before returning so he could get home in time for dinner.

I had a bit of time up my sleeve, so figured I'd work my way down the line.

First stop, Eaglemont, then Darebin.

Nice work here indeed, veevers12. The cache was easily spotted, and there's just enough friction in the system that a little climbing was necessary.

Didn't didn't work as intended and alas, this short ass had to climb to sign the log. Loved the make of it. Maybe try twine next time. TFTC

Edit: 300th cache find!!

23-Apr-23
Nice idea! I'm just not sure it is working as intended.

Came along here with goingplaces2 and found the container. Cache was retrieved, log was signed and all was replaced. Job done! Thanks for the cache and the history.

22-Apr-23
Searching for sidetracked caches seems to work better on a weekend as there are more parking places available and fewer muggles around. This was a nice quick and easy find with ilook4geo and the log was soon signed and replaced. Enjoyed finding the themed container too. Thank you to veevers12 for adding to the sidetracked series, which we have had a lot of fun finding.

Ducked out early this morning to grab a couple of geocaches to satisfy a challenge that I am chasing. Looks like a good reason for some train spotting Smile
Nice hide but the mechanism is getting cought up and might need a little rethink.
**Thanks for placing this cache veevers12**

Excellent hide! Really fun to get and climb the tree. TFTC

05-Feb-23
I went for a drive out to St Amdrews to do the new adventure lab that started out there and I also needed a puzzle for today's calendar.
After that I slowly made my way back towards the city doing the ad lab and once that was done I followed the railway line doing mostly Sidetracked trads.
This one I didn't want to break it so I got it part way down and then climbed the tree to sign it.
Thanks veevers12 for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

Quick drive by pick up, Clever cache, clever construction, blends in well with its surroundings

I know it said you don’t need to climb the tree, but climbing trees is fun so I did anyway. Signing the log while up in the tree was a little challenging but got it done. This was a fun one.

On my way home from Melton today and I decided to follow the train line from Montmorency to Fairfield to find caches in this series.

This was my fourth SideTracked find for today.
Once again I managed to get pole position in the parking stakes, right alongside of the hide.

The cache was quickly spotted and with my engineering background, I soon had the log in hand.
So many reasons to give this one a favorite point.

Thank you for the fine addition to this series veevers12 and wishing a very Happy New Year to you all.

Saw it but try as I might could not get to the container.
Good one but, unfortunately eluded me.

On my way home from Preston today I decided to follow the train line from Fairfield to Montmorency to find caches in the SideTracked series.
I have been to this park a few years ago to find another cache and was happy to see this lovely, unique container suitably hidden until it can be restored to its original place.
Thank you veevers12 for this cache and your contribution to the series.

Did our best at repair, such a cool container

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another road trip adventure with Aquilus1 as we venture off from Canberra to go to the Whittlesea Mega. The major lure of course was the GPS Maze (we have attended 5 of these now!).

We went the longish way on Friday so as to collect virtuals and labs a little further west, its a shame that several of the labs could only be done travelling north..... at least we have WP1 done!

The weather was all a bit crap, with crazy wind, rain and swamps everywhere being a feature of the trip.

A huge day on Saturday of 30,000 steps around the new challenge trail at Mt Disappointment was not disappointing.....but it really hurt! We truly became "Limpy & Gimpy" as we hobbled around the showgrounds & did the maze afterwards. The glory!!!

Lucky for us Sunday was a day with mostly park & grabs in convoy, the result of a huge team effort to solve the WCW GeoArt at Whittlesea. I did venture out of the car to clear roads of fallen trees and even stood under a waterfall to retrieve a cache....the things we do! Have to shout out Albida for daring to take on the crazy steep track in his 4WD and Minniek for crossing the log!

Of course we didn't ignore counties as its always one of our major focuses. We ventured south into Melbourne late on the Sunday to collect several, as well as virtuals. I will never forget just how many mozzies were in the loo with me at the MCG!

Monday was a cleanup day with labs, another event and wherigo in Whittlesea (scroll down to the bottom to read the heavily edited logs! Wink )

On the trip back we went a different route to collect some other counties and cool old caches. Car developed a slow leak which meant us putting air in it every 100-150km's, but it got us home!!

HUGE thank you for all the cache owners, if we signed your cache it was because it had a quality we were really chasing. BIG apologies to all other cache owners, we had SO MANY more we wanted to sign, but of course there just isn't enough time. Sad

Found this in the grass away from the tree, cute container but was missing a Log and line not complete. Replaced log and placed at base of tree. CO might like to check on this one?

With the Whittlesea Mega, its GPS maze and a number of events on over the weekend, GreyHams and myself set of for our four-day caching trip. Perhaps one of our trips with not much of a plan but we seemed to fill the days fully and ticked of what we had in mind.

The trip down was one that followed the most sensible route... past lots of virtuals and definitely not the most direct, perfect! With a number of AL's as we passed and a few caches of interest we arrived at Whittlesea in time for the evenings event.

Saturday's forecast wasn't the most favourable for caching but the challenge series at Mt disappointment was of interest, and it's a challenge series after all so what's a little rain! We did get lucky really and a few showers blew through but for the most part it was dry enough. It was a long walk and a huge push, but we made it back to the car, a little broken and sore but it was a great series and worth the suffering! (There was suffering!) The day also saw us through the maze, a few AL's, caches and events.

With the prep of the puzzles prior to the weekend it was a group approach of the solving team, the Whittlesea Canberra Caching Group, logs signed WCCG for the Sunday. So great to head out with this group, a great trail of such variety of caches and locations. The huge storm overnight made it a little tricky with so much extra water about, a few downed trees, wet feet, some walks and a couple of leaches (was that just on me!) Great to collect these caches, or at least most of the ones we could.

It's not a caching trip without collecting new LGA's and we did manage a few extras, into Melbourne and its surrounds, feeling a bit stiff and sore from our huge walk it was a limp about for the rest of the weekend but cache on, we did!

Monday saw us back at the Mega for another event, a chance to finish of the AL's and a few last caches. Our journey home taking us through a few new LGA's, more virtuals, and caches of interest. A great weekend away, we filled all the days to the fullest. Many thanks to the Committee for organising and to all the CO's in the region and as we travelled about for your caches.

Found by Omegaman1971, Rebel Acts, Ski pair

With Rebel Acts marooned on this side of the city for the day it was a perfect excuse to put some smiles on the map and feed my OCD regarding finding all of the current sidetracked caches in Victoria.

Was sad to find this cool container on the ground under a handkerchief with the obvious attachment broken and no log.

Fun container veevers12, sorry about the muggle intervention.

Found by Rebel Acts in the company of Ski Pair and Omegaman1971

I had to drop the girls off a Equitana at the show grounds to today and pick them up some twelve hours later so plans were made with my caching friends to meet up to do a few caches for the day we started in the western suburbs before feeding our Side tracked obsession and chasing a few off those, we had a great day out the weather was just great for caching, plenty of laughs were had a long the way.

This is one of the caches found today.

Thanks veevers12 for the cache.

12-Nov-22
The original plan had us likely to head elsewhere, but Rebel Acts was called on to take some keen horse fanatics to Equitania at the showgrounds. He was going to be in the area all day so we decided to meet him as we had been looking for the chance to drop our granddaughter's bike back at her home nearby anyway. We were also joined by Omegaman which led to a fun day with lots of stories and gentle sledging. A great day out that took us to a number of places we had not visited before.

Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache veevers12.

SideTracked find 120.
I am visiting Melbourne to find as many of the SideTracked caches that have been 'breeding' in Melbourne, that I can. My second day of catching trains to stations with SideTracked caches. I purchased a myki card, so have card, will travel .
Arrived from Ivanhoe. Now this was a walk, guaranteed to have me miss the next train and need to sit and wait for the following one. A clever idea, but the thin fishing line is getting tangled, and could be better replaced with cord of some kind. The log is a mouldy, wet mess and needs replacement. Then I headed back to the station, even ran part of it to just...miss the train. Sat and waited for the following one to Alphington. TFTC veevers12.

Log needs replacement.

03-Nov-22
I will be replacing the damp log soon.

I was out today targeting an old cache, one with many favorites and one that had some unlove. On the way home this one popped up and one can never pass up the opportunity to find one more! Upon arrival I found it took quite some time to untangle the mechanism. Upon opening the cache container I found the log to be mush and completely unwritable. Perhaps a bison would work better here. Thank you veevers12 for placing and maintaining SideTracked - Darebin for us to find today.

Find # 1435.

TFTC. Nice cache container however the log needs replacing as it is completely soaked.

After finding one of the nearby earth caches, we stopped here on the way around to the other one. The cutely themed cache was already in a completely accessible position, if you get my drift, so after logging GMelb returned it to where it was meant to be.

All good to go

We got tired of watching the one-sided AFL Grand Final, especially as we didn't barrack for either team, so we decided to find this cache and then take the geobeagles for walkies in nearby Darebin Parklands as the weather was so good.

We parked in Rockbeare Grove and wandered over to GZ. It didn't take long to spot something glistening in today's sunshine. We had no problems retrieving the cache and signing the slightly damp log at 4:20 pm. TNLN. Then things started to go awry. We tried to return the cache to its hiding spot but the mechanism broke and one of us got a slight injury. We hid the cache and its broken bits under some camo and notified the CO who has now disabled the cache with the intention of fixing it shortly.

Thanks veevers12 for your well-constructed and creative cache....well, until we destroyed it. Also thanks for your understanding and kind email response. After finding the cache the uninjured member of our team took the geobeagles for a shorter than intended walk in the Darebin Parklands - there was a walk through/entrance near where we parked in Rockbeare Grove. This will definitely be a memorable cache.

I will get out to have a look at this during the week

12-Sep-22
It’s back to it’s original form and should work smoothly now

There is a small issue with the mechanism. It can still be easily found and logged but I will need to come back with the appropriate tool to fix it properly.

Searching in the dark probably my downfall here, nothing found that matches the hint

I intend to try and do these SideTracked Caches in the spirit they are intended. I arrived rather early for a nearby appointment so what better way to use my time than get sidetracked on a cache A great way to get a bit of exercise too. I haven’t done a cache like this for a long time and it certainly made me smile. Gets a favourite from me. Thanks for adding to an interesting series.

Arrived just after dark, so donned the headtorch which actually helped me to spot the attachment, reflecting nicely in the night.
A couple of sticky bits, but got there in the end.
A fav point for the effort in building this cache.

Thanks for bringing me here today by placing this cache, veevers12

I should always read the description because I had to go back to the car to help me out. Took a while as it was stuck and not free flowing. I managed with my super tool to unhook it a couple times.
It was working OK when I left. Please treat this one carefully.
Thanks for another over this side of town while I am dog sitting. Well earned FP today

Lots to like about this one, especially the crafty container. I’m not the only one - everyone who has found it so far has favourited it. I’m glad I’ve found it early in its life though as I suspect this could be one of those MG caches - cool but needing consistent maintenance. But it IS cool. Thanks veevers12

Fabulous cache thanks veevers12, hence the favourite. Well thought out & constructed, however a little tricky to put back.
