Missed on way up, found 5.13pm on way backTodays plan is to find and sign as many challenges as I can on Mount Disappointment. I did this all on foot and I have the sore calf muscle (still sore after 2 days of driving) to prove it!! I noted the times I initially signed the cache and also when I passed by them on my return to my vehicle parked near the Scout camp to give you some idea of how my days walk went. Not bad for 9 hours I seen a variety of flowers, some very tiny and all very pretty, I got to watch an echidna searching for a feed, I stopped at a stream to wash my face and bathe my hands in the cool water, I watched planes and birds flying in the sky, I seen wallabies jumping about and wombat dung on the ground but I also seen not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 bloody snakes (20 years taken off my life!) during my walk I also picked up and carried back to my vehicle a plastic tub, a bit of rope which I used to carry 76 drink bottles/cans in! You could say I did a little CITO today as well. And. I think the mountain should be renamed Mount Red Bull! Of the 76 bottles/cans, 36 were Red Bull! What can I say.. well I wasnt disappointed with the days adventure. Now to work towards meeting the signed challenges and let my legs recover before my next adventure.TFTC RoamingHowieKeep smiling
When we found this cache last year, we did not qualify but have since well made it past the mark. When I started caching 10 years ago there wasnt a letterbox cache in the Greater Shepparton area, and, until last year, when I placed one, there wasnt one in the city of Shepparton either. This meant my search for letterbox caches took me to all corners of this wonderful land. Thanks to that I do qualify for this challenge, and was delighted to have my name added to the log with Ronice88 on 13th April. Thanks for another beautiful challenge cache Roaming Howie.[Cybergran V](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=Cybergran%20V) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC9Z59P/72339 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.Total attribute requirement fulfilled with 93 unique attributes (80 needed x 1).
I found and signed this cache on 6/11/2023 and am happy to say that I am qualified to claim a now. Thanks for this challenge cache RoamingHowie.
Autumnal Victorian Roadtrip.Day Three: Pick up a car and head to Mt. Disappointment. Weather: perfect. A quirky challenge here. I think I might have sir_spectre to thank for this one. I try not to go past a letterbox cache, and maybe one day Ill get to do one of the original ones. Thanks for this challenge RoamingHowie. I must have made letter box a mission once upon a time...likely have more since I checked. But the tick does it! Lovely to be out in nature! A heroic drive for someone like me! So took another option for some of todays mission. Seems like I'm on the road often enough to qualify for this one. Heading back to home base in the NE and have "rediscovered" these so time to log away with CybergranV and I. Last time Dromaniax and I were up here it the road was closed so we did manage to walk this far. With the road open tonight it made the journey here so much easier with the Ginja Ninja doing all of the work allowing our heart rates to stay at a normal rate instead of the crazing numbers they reached last time.[Sims_family](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=Sims_family) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC9Z59P/72339 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.Total attribute requirement fulfilled with 89 unique attributes (80 needed x 1).
We had the opportunity to drive/walk through this area and sign a number of logs while we visited for a few days. Many of the logs we signed are challenges we may not ever qualify for, but having now checked this one, gives us a green light, so our write note can become a smiley. Thanks RoamingHowie Domsky [domsky](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?u=domsky) has used [Project-GC](https://project-gc.com/Challenges/GC9Z59P/72339 "Project-GC Challenge Checker") to see if they qualified for this challenge and they did.
We have had a wonderful time walking and driving around the Mt Disappointment area over the last two days.We were surprised, and quite pleased that today we were able to drive quite a fair way on the roads (entering the area today from the northern section), even in our non-four-wheel-drive. We just took it slowly and walked when needed. We enjoyed scrambling up some embankments through some forgotten tracks to find our way to a couple of off-trail hides, and generally had a good time. We decided to call it quits shortly after the first storm hit today and made our way back down to Whittlesea. Thanks RoamingHowie for the challenge. We will check to see which ones we qualify for; some we do, some we will work towards and others we may never qualify for. All part of the fun and adventure of geocaching. Domsky
Cache foundcand signed the week of the Whittlesea Mega in 22I'm going to say that I quite enjoyed working on this Challenge and it took some research to finally achieve cumilating in a Geo trip to Canberra to tick of the last few attributes that I simply found too hard to achieve in Vic. Qualifying stats attached with a Fav point thanks for this challenging challenge. Found and Signed with catnap777 18/2/23. [^]In our attempt to find 10 caches of 5 types in December for another dastardly challenge, catnap777 and I went on a bit of a mailrun to boulster up our numbers. I think we managed to inadvertantly find enough attributes for me to qualify for this one along the way. TFTC and Challenge RoamingHowie. After spending the weekend with CIA,the Canberra Invasion of Albury group, I decidedtomake a solotrip down to Mt Disappointment. The target was the challenge caches. I didn't leave Albury as early as I could, but I still hoped to make a good start. Well, I guess that it can be called that, but not quite as good as I had hoped. There were some good drives but lots of walking, resulting in quite a few finds. This was one of the finds and logs that was signed. I will check later to see if I qualify to claim a for this cache. TFTC ahomburg
I found this cache on the 15/11/22 with loci612 and Sebass19. I now qualify to. Claim the find. Thanks for the cache.
A tricky challenge which I finally qualify for, following a tricky spider-themed letterbox.
A tricky find too on my penultimate wander thru the hills, but the log was soon signed.
Will add qualifying pic once ProjectGc updates. TFTC and adventure.

close but no cigar! sitting on 77 attributes, and there's a certain night-cache which I keep on failing which would get me all the way to 80 ... or a couple of trips north and west could finish the challenge. At least my name's in the bone-dry logbook now, so I'm one step closer. TFTC
Yay, I qualify now!

This is one of many challenges that i logged today that really doesn't suit my style of caching and hence I may never qualify. Or maybe one day i will accidentally. Either way, it was a nice walk with Robmc. TFTC!
Spent the day walking the Whittlesea Challenge Wander Series with Day1976.
We started at Blair's Hut, and walked clockwise around the trail.
The day started foggy, but opened up into a lovely sunny day, just cool enough for walking.
Now to work out which one I have completed, and which require extra work.
Snuck in by one, luckily there is a checker for this one.
Thanks, Robmc.

The Whittlesea Mega has been on and off for a long time due to that rotten COVID-19. The sad part is that due to MND I really think this could be my last Mega but I am in the area for a week thanks to my two great SA friends who travelled from SA visiting Ballarat for a couple of days and then moved down to Geelong only to pick me up and we are staying in Craigieburn for a week and then they are taking me back to Geelong. It’s generosity like that Geocaching folk are renowned for, plus all the help that I have received in the past few days which I will be forever grateful.
This guy was found , signed on the 23rd Novmber 2022 with my two SA friends who were looking after the ageing Bushfire.
Thanks for placing and looking after this cache . I am slowly getting a few more of these caches logged but for how long I really don't know depends on the body.
The good news is that I am working on going to the Rutherglen Mega.

Cache found and log signed with dalerious .
Well, I can't believe what a journey it was to get out and sign this Challenge series.
dalerious and I had planned to sign them during the Mega, but unfortunately, we had to miss the Mega which hurt us dearly.
We planned another day a couple of weeks ago, but it had rained heavily the night before. We took a chance and drove out, but we didn't get very far, and more rain was on the way.
We were considering walking to some, but the amount of sticky mud that stuck to our boots soon made us give up on that idea.
Third time lucky . This was the perfect day to get all caches signed. The weather was perfect and we chose a different start point today which helped immensely .
There were people out on motorcycles, and shooters as well as we drove in, but that all petered out and we signed logs in relative peace.
The highlight for me was the walk in for the three . I am sure dalerious enjoyed that too .
Now, all that is left is too start working on the one's that we don't qualify for, and put smiles on the cache pages and our faces as we go.
Thank you RoamingHowie and ahomburg for placing out all these awesome challenges. All caches were found in good condition .

Signed with catnap777 on a full day on the mountain putting our names in every new challenge cache up here.
We know we do not qualify for a lot more of these challenge caches than we do, but by finding and signing a cache at every GZ without a single DNF, we sure didn't have a dissapointing day on Mt Dissapointment.
Now the fun begins sorting what we have earned, and earning what we haven't.

Whittlesea Mega Wobble and Wade Tour: Day 10: Walk to some Challenge Caches and then head to Seymour.
Once again myself and Anymules were in Victoria on our way to a Mega event. We made a detour via Geelong and picked up Bushfire. It had been three years since we last all cached together. [^] Today we set out for Sunbury for the afternoon with a pub meal at the local pub. Many caches were found and unless something stood out these will be generic logs.
In the book but 7 attributes short.

November 2022. Time for the second Victorian Mega of the year. This time in Whittlesea. What is it with W's? Time for another epic road trip. Who will join our merry crew? We traveled from South Australia and camped in the pig pen. It rained. It blew. It was sunny. It was not sunny. All four seasons. Beautiful location and some awesome caches.
Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.

This is the second time up here for the challenges and today we were determined to get the job done. However we picked the worst day possible it was bitterly cold and blowing a gale. Every 5 minutes we would get a burst of rain then 5 minutes of sun just before the next shower of rain. Occasionally we got pelted with rice size hail which was fine as it just bounced off and we didn’t get wet. It really was a bit of fun.
The wind had picked up so bad that on the way out we had to stop and help a truck driver to remove a falling tree on the road.

So glad we completed this, it was a great walk and happy with the direction we did it. We set out to see what we could achieve and made it around. Our fitness wasn't at its peak, so it was tough going on the legs especially towards the end of our 6 hours walk, but we did it! Logs signed and a write note for now until I can look at qualifications.
With the Whittlesea Mega, its GPS maze and a number of events on over the weekend, GreyHams and myself set of for our four-day caching trip. Perhaps one of our trips with not much of a plan but we seemed to fill the days fully and ticked of what we had in mind.
The trip down was one that followed the most sensible route... past lots of virtuals and definitely not the most direct, perfect! With a number of AL's as we passed and a few caches of interest we arrived at Whittlesea in time for the evenings event.
Saturday's forecast wasn't the most favourable for caching but the challenge series at Mt disappointment was of interest, and it's a challenge series after all so what's a little rain! We did get lucky really and a few showers blew through but for the most part it was dry enough. It was a long walk and a huge push, but we made it back to the car, a little broken and sore but it was a great series and worth the suffering! (There was suffering!) The day also saw us through the maze, a few AL's, caches and events.
With the prep of the puzzles prior to the weekend it was a group approach of the solving team, the Whittlesea Canberra Caching Group, logs signed WCCG for the Sunday. So great to head out with this group, a great trail of such variety of caches and locations. The huge storm overnight made it a little tricky with so much extra water about, a few downed trees, wet feet, some walks and a couple of leaches (was that just on me!) Great to collect these caches, or at least most of the ones we could.
It's not a caching trip without collecting new LGA's and we did manage a few extras, into Melbourne and its surrounds, feeling a bit stiff and sore from our huge walk it was a limp about for the rest of the weekend but cache on, we did!
Monday saw us back at the Mega for another event, a chance to finish of the AL's and a few last caches. Our journey home taking us through a few new LGA's, more virtuals, and caches of interest. A great weekend away, we filled all the days to the fullest. Many thanks to the Committee for organising and to all the CO's in the region and as we travelled about for your caches.

Another road trip adventure with Aquilus1 as we venture off from Canberra to go to the Whittlesea Mega. The major lure of course was the GPS Maze (we have attended 5 of these now!).
We went the longish way on Friday so as to collect virtuals and labs a little further west, its a shame that several of the labs could only be done travelling north..... at least we have WP1 done!
The weather was all a bit crap, with crazy wind, rain and swamps everywhere being a feature of the trip.
A huge day on Saturday of 30,000 steps around the new challenge trail at Mt Disappointment was not disappointing.....but it really hurt! We truly became "Limpy & Gimpy" as we hobbled around the showgrounds & did the maze afterwards. The glory!!!
Lucky for us Sunday was a day with mostly park & grabs in convoy, the result of a huge team effort to solve the WCW GeoArt at Whittlesea. I did venture out of the car to clear roads of fallen trees and even stood under a waterfall to retrieve a cache....the things we do! Have to shout out Albida for daring to take on the crazy steep track in his 4WD and Minniek for crossing the log!
Of course we didn't ignore counties as its always one of our major focuses. We ventured south into Melbourne late on the Sunday to collect several, as well as virtuals. I will never forget just how many mozzies were in the loo with me at the MCG!
Monday was a cleanup day with labs, another event and wherigo in Whittlesea (scroll down to the bottom to read the heavily edited logs! )
On the trip back we went a different route to collect some other counties and cool old caches. Car developed a slow leak which meant us putting air in it every 100-150km's, but it got us home!!
HUGE thank you for all the cache owners, if we signed your cache it was because it had a quality we were really chasing. BIG apologies to all other cache owners, we had SO MANY more we wanted to sign, but of course there just isn't enough time.

This was a nice walk from the top down and around despite the bush bashing 14km was complete with all caches being found along the way
This weekend was mega weekend and we headed over with Freddo, team Waldron, e.gregory1 and Davidwazza as part of our team called: ‘Aussies on Tour’, the log books were either signed with the name, AOT or our individual caching names.
A great weekend away and a very well organised mega despite the horrible weather thrown at us we still managed to find quite a few caches
Thanks for the cache

This weekend, it was a flight and trip down to Melbourne to attend The Whittlesea 2022 Mega Event. I arrived on Thursday evening and had accommodation in Mill Park, which was a good strategic location between Whittlesea and Melbourne. I joined a few South Aussie friends as part of the “Aussies on Tour” (AOT) team, which consisted of e.gregory1, Freddo, gridge98, and Team Waldron.
Several geocaching series were completed, which included the Commonwealth Star Series (CSS), Whittlesea Puzzles for Beginners, Whittlesea Event Gadget Trail (WEGT), Whittlesea Challenge Wander (WCW), and the Whittlesea Compass (TWC). In addition, we targeted uncommon cache types, rare/unique D-T combinations, older caches and those with high Favourite Points. It was great to have visited Victoria's two 2000 hidden geocaches too (Victoria's 1st (Melbourne's 1st) and Devil Bend).
We were treated with great weather for the first couple of days, but then it deteriorated from Saturday afternoon with rain storms and high winds overnight and on Sunday.
We took this walk/hike through Mount Disappointment in the afternoon, and we were able to get a dropoff on the northern side, and pick up at the southern end of the trail. After driving the first three WCW geocaches, it was time to start our walk, and it ended up taking us four hours (moving time 3:10 hr) to walk a distance of 13.8 km over an elevation of 470 m, as per my [Strava record](https://www.strava.com/activities/8156193669).
During our walk, we stopped at this challenge cache, and it wasn't long before we made this cache find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape, and the logbook was stamped with our "Aussies on Tour" stamp / noted as AOT to save logbook space. Thanks RoamingHowie for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Was stunned when after leaving my car I received a message saying "Is that you getting out of the car". Turned out Tiz13 had just parked down the road. Had a great day caching and chatting with Tiz13.
Boy that middle section is a bush bash. My GPSr and offline map said there was a trail in there, but when we found it, the amount of branches and trees down over it, made it just as bad.

Another unique challenge! Appreciate all the different ideas to get my mind looking at interesting stats! Thanks for this one, happy to qualify here!

**Challenge Series:**
Today’s main goal was to find all the caches in the Whittlesea Challenge Wander series! We knew that vehicles were off-limit here so we had come up with a cunning plan to carpool a car at the top end, and a car at the bottom end. A smart observation of the topographic map meant that most of our hike was downhill, apart from the two times we had to double back. Once for the off-track section and then again for the five caches along the east side of the “Phone Track”.
Even with the car-pooling, the hike to grab every cache was about 12km. This doesn’t even include the northern most four caches which you can actually get a vehicle too.
Excellent series and a nice hike out in the wilderness! Not a walk in the park however, allow 4 hours including the drive between the two parking spots taking some time.
Thanks for setting this up everyone involved!

I do love challenge caches. Even if I don't qualify, they give me something to strive for.
This day turned out to be an adventure that I wasn't expecting.
The trail is quite nice. Sure, its steep in places, but most of it is along great tracks through the mountains.
There are the three in the middle where it gets off-track and you have to do some severe bush-bashing. I ended up over 100m south of those caches which was even thicker. There were tons of huge logs to climb over. These logs are also super slippery, even with good tread boots. I decided to walk one and totally slipped off. Was a pretty scary fall, but I managed to miss most of the sticks on the way down.
Oh... and then it started to rain. Just when I was doing those three. The rain continued and increased. It was soon raining buckets. There were rivers running down the side of hills and tracks. And then the winds come. Gale force. When back on the fire tracks it was even worse without the protection of the forest. I was drenched from head to toe.
I finally managed to get to the picnic area at the northern end. This allowed me some time with a bit of shelter to sort my stuff and get ready for the 5km wet walk back to my caravan.
I waited for 20 minutes but it didn't look like the weather was going to ease, so I just continued on. It was so wet that I even skipped many of the traditionals at the northern end. Rummaging through the bush was like sticking your body in a huge bucket.
It was a slow trip back and continued to rain most of the way. It was great to get to my caravan and get out of my wet things.
A great series. I qualify for some. Thanks for the caches, ahomburg.
I don't yet qualify for this one. Only 2 to go.

*Cache find # 13514.*
Today I decided to head back and try to finish as many of the challenge caches as possible so I don’t have to worry about them when the actual Mega is on as they take a big chunk out of the day.
I grabbed the push bike and headed out, one way was great, fast and easy, the other way not so much as there was a lot of pushing.
The bonus of going earlier rather than later was that there were a few FTF’s.
**Thanks to RoamingHowie for placing this cache.**

Challenge Update - Trail remains open
The Challenge trail was designed as a walking trail in the Mt Disappointment State Forest. Phone Track and Phosphate Road are seasonally closed to vehicles over winter and usually reopen on Cup Weekend. Due to the wet weather, many of the closures have been extended to avoid vehicle damage to tracks. Unfortunately due to short notice, generic signage was placed at the gates on Monday, that incorrectly includes a no pedestrians logo.
The Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning (DELWP) have today confirmed in writing that these tracks are NOT closed to pedestrians, and walking along these roads remains unrestricted as was the case before. The challenge trail remains unaffected. A copy of their communication is in the image attached.
As always you should make your own assessments of weather and conditions before exploring nature.
Note: The logging zone along the northern section of Phone Track remains closed to the public including pedestrians. There are no caches placed in this zone.
Happy Caching!

In town and it’s not raining much compared to what I’ve seen at times so thought a leg stretch was in order in the afternoon. Weighed up waiting for the rest but figured with a few FTFs up for grabs we may as well see what it is like as you never know how much time you have in the future.
Plenty of trees down and across the track. The “Pink section” was certainly slippery and over grown particular the east side where it seemed to disappear altogether but just a matter of picking a line and heading for the main track. Once a few hundred cachers come through no doubt it will be a walk in the park.
So with all found and the bonus of some FTFs Mt Disappointment was not that Disappointing. TFTC

Once a few hundred cachers come through no doubt it will be a walk in the park.
So with all found and the bonus of some FTFs Mt Disappointment was not that Disappointing. TFTC
