Went for a walk along the track this afternoon. There has been a lot of work done on the track and the surrounding area over the years that this cache has been there. It is now longer suitable for a cache at either of the waypoints so we have decided to archive the cache. Maybe someone else will be able to hide a cache in a more suitable spot.

24-Aug-07
We will disable this cache until such time we are able to check it and at that time if the containers are actually missing we will be archiving it.

18-Aug-07
looked for ages and think this cache is missingSad

06-Apr-07
Nice little walk, found pretty easy but the tb was not in there, dropped a couple off and rehid
TFTC
In - Butterflys TB
- Soccer Geocoin

06-Apr-07
Must have been there not long after skweak as I picked up the Butterfly TB and the Soccer Geocoin. Left One Fast Mini TB and GDay Downunder Geocoin. A nice walk but as it was number four for the afternoon I had to cajole my daughter to keep going (a big bag of bread for the ducks helps there, lol).

31-Mar-07
There are a few possibilities for WP1, so I didn't get it straight away. GPS worked okay. The cache is quite exposed, I tried to hide it as much as I could. I took the TB. I'm not sure how safe it would have been there.
TFTC!

21-Feb-07
What a lovely spot, really enjoyed the hunt, deposited Geocoin and uplifted travel bug, pity we had not found this earlier, as we had just returned from Aussie(its destination) but will leave in a touristy spot later this week.

12-Feb-07
A nice, reasonably easy, find as we return to the Garden City from our travels. Everything was where it should be, and the weather was playing its part.
TNLN, TFTC.

I had decided this was to be my last attempt of the day. I parked the car and headed of in light rain to WPT 1. Things were pretty wet underfoot and the swamp was rising. I squelched into and under some waterloged foliage and probed around finding nil.
After ten minutes or so I cracked the clue and it did not suggest anywhere I had not already looked but I checked again. Then I worked a bit along to the west and bingo. Overcome with elation and worried about the onset of darkness I rushed back to the car having decided to drive to the Cache proper what with the rain and all. Arriving at the road end I reached for the walking pole and ??? Yep left at WPT 1.
So I went and splashed back to WPt 1 Recovered said pole and looked at the sky. Maybe still time for the final, thank God for southern twilight.
Back to the road end and off along the track. the rain now heavy and the GPSR is pointing thankfully to "high" ground well about 300mm high actually. I hunt around a bit and crack the clue and the news is all bad.
Well actually not that bad in fact and the GPSr has revised its estimate and the cache is found above the water level after all. Hooray!
TNLNSL TFTC and and "interesting" adventure.

17-Jan-07
FINALLY found it. That first WP is nasty - I've probably been there 4-5 times. The GPS is useless - and the direction mentioned in the clue is not particularly helpful - I had been looking much further away from the path - perhaps a mention of the distance from the path would help.
The comment about the boxed / boardwalk junction is also outdated - it's well on the boxed section.
The final cache is well out in the open. It looks like it's had muggle logs. I covered it with debris - but I suspect it gets moved by birds.

17-Jan-07
I forgot - I left a TB here.

16-Jan-07
I started this cache on sunday and thought that I would finish it off today,,, left marbles and sticker..took small pen,,cheers and thanks.

29-Dec-06
Both caches took a little bit of finding (reception a little iffy, especially for the first).

27-Dec-06

Needed clue for the waypoint. Found cutty grass, blackberry and stinging nettle before the final cache - ouch! Lovely spot though, thanks. TNLN.

After a week of cold wet weather a hint of sunshine was enough to get me out for a little while to find a cache. Lyttletonwitch chose this cache to introduce me to caching 8 months ago. We didn't find WP1 that day. A later visit was curtailed by maintainance work on the track. Today was third time lucky. Before setting out I checked for updates which was just as well because we found the old WP1 container. The contents were very wet and the WP details for the cache unreadable. A search by the next tree turned up the new container. The contents were dry and we could read the cache WP. The tape around the container is deteriorating fast. We had little difficulty finding the cache at the final destination as it was partly exposed. Attempted to disguise the location a little better then had to retreat fast when muggles approached. Took a doll and left a seahorse. After several days of rain the area is waterlogged, lots of muddy puddles on the track. I removed the old container from the site and will endeavour to return it to the owner.

26-Nov-06
Well this was a tricky find today, with stink weather and a GPS that had me all over the place I ended up just getting to the general areas of both WPs and using the clues Red Face This is a nice area to have a cache in and I'm sure that on a sunny day it would have been a much more pleasent (This is the first time We've been here), so we will be back on a sunny day Smile. Thanks Sallies

+ Marbles (I think)

17-Nov-06

Found an entry to the river area and started walking to find part 1, then after finding and walking back to find part 2 was only about 50 metres away from the car. Thanks. 1 of 85

Out geocaching with adventure in Christchurch

14-Oct-06
Did this one with Larkminda who were down from Nelson holidaying. Having lived in Chch for 14 years, it was great to go exploring a bit of the city I have rarely been to. TNLN Thanks Big Grin

10-Sep-06
Found it!

This was the second time we have looked for this cache. Put in Trading cards and stickers.
Took Puzzle thing-thanks

09-Sep-06
A nice walk, 3km return on a flat track we went the long way. Will impove even more when the plants grow over in spring, tnln, thanks Ewen & Margaret

11-Aug-06
Thanks Kiwilegend for alerting us to the possible demise of this cache. The first container was indeed missing - the description of where it is remains the same and we have replaced the container with a round camo-taped jar containing the coordinates for the main cache. The final cache container was safely in place so everything is now fine again.

06-Aug-06
Third time here. Couldn't find the waypoint. I wasn't even sure if I was in the right area. There's been a lot of track maintenance - the track may be all box gravel there now.

17-Jun-06
Waypoint has water in it , dried as much a possible.
Cache is completly dry.

07-May-06
Second visit to the site. Track still closed for tree felling maintainance. Indications of extensive work being done. May be closed for some time. Confirmation that the access to the cache has not been disturbed may be required.

06-May-06
found this mid day, council doing tree felling on the walkway. at ground zero 1, lots of newly felled trees. Advise chace one be serviced as everything was wet. Cache two is stil in very good condition and still well hidden

26-Feb-06
found it on 2nd attempt - thanks

26-Feb-06
seems to be fresh logging in the area - appears ot be a rather large pile of cuttings where the first cache should be

18-Feb-06
Lovely evening walk through a park that we had never been to before. Easy finds. Both caches very wet, so dried them out. Took glue to dispose of it, as it was disintegrating. TFTC from Linley, Richard, Harry and Max.

31-Dec-05
Finally got it. Lots of muggles had to be careful

MORDOR&ANDRE finally got round to this nice multi, and to think we haven't been along this beaut walk (so close to home) since early last summer. Took a long time to find the first wp. I must have printed out my cache inst sheet ages ago and hadn't looked at the pics etc.. But, once again persistence payed off. The cache itself was an easy find. Had to dry insides a bit but it's not to bad. Andre enjoyed feeding horses and ducks. + TB Nora + superglue + bubbles - wee car for Andre. Cheers Sallies.

23-Oct-05
Went back this evening for another jog. The second waypoint is there safe and sound. No amorous couples or other annoying muggles. No sign of any untoward activity in the vicinity of either waypoint. Red Face

22-Oct-05
Went in to check this one out this evening. The cache at waypoint one was in place and safe and sound. (At least I didn't have to drive all the way to Godley Heads this time - just have an evening jog.) There was no sign of logging or cuttings at that point. The cache at waypoint two was more difficult to check on as there was a very, very amorous young Japanese couple within two metres of the cache!!! However, I did get close enough, while walking discreetly by, to see that there was no logging or cuttings in that area either so I presume the cache itself is safe. I did notice a pile of logs about 20m away from the second waypoint. I will go back another (cold or wet) day, when the coast is likely to be clear of animated couples, and check it out thoroughly. By the way, the path through the area has been greatly improved in places. First our initial stump disintegrated, now our bump/lump/hump has been removed and replaced by a nice wide, level shingled path. What will happen next? Will it be our jump, dump or rump!!??

06-Aug-05
The final cache was out in the open so replaced with some cover. There was a lot of searching done in the wrong place for the waypoint, then we started to think and found the WP. + jandel, - smiley magnet. Thanks Sallies, Ridders76.

13-Apr-05
Well, the first cache was rather difficult to find - everything looks much the same in this area. But Lady Luck was smiling on me, and I found it OK - though it was full of water. The second cache was rather too easy to find. It seems the Council has been doing some clearing work very close by, and the cover has almost vanished. The cache was completely exposed, with its lid off and a bit wet. So I dried it out, and replaced it according to the listing. No swaps.

27-Feb-05
Walked clockwise round the whole track. Had to look around a bit before finding boxes. TNLN (Posted by cellphone at 04:19-GMT)

30-Jan-05
This was a nice cache for my last one in CHCH, after a great weekend meeting new and old faces, doing caches I think I got 33 in all for the 3 days...

Many Thanks Bitsprayer

22-Dec-04
Found both parts.
Track very boggy after lots of rain.
1st cache was wet inside, 2nd ok.
+ car
- hairclip

21-Nov-04
We went for a family day out. The cache is in a nice spot. Georgia found both caches.
The second cache site have been cleaned so the cache was exposed, some non cachers had found the cache according to the log they left (we also removed the cigarette lighter they left in the cache).

06-Jul-04
We try to keep a close eye on this cache so we visited it today. Both cache containers are intact and in the correct places. They were both completely uncovered when we got there but are covered up again now. They are both perfectly safe - no redevelopment or water encroaching on to the hiding places. We have uploaded new photos for both areas as the vegetation has changed completely since the time that we hid the cache.

19-Jun-04
Searched the area, no luck. Checked the hint, and the spot indicated now appears to be under ~50cm of water!

16-Mar-04
took some time muggles every where thx sallies

10-Feb-04
Had a little trouble with WPT 1.
Drove around to WPT2, took just 15 mins from WPT 1 to completion of WPT 2.
- $2 coin
+ Avon Samples.

This will probably be our last cache for NZ as we fly out on Friday.
We went to visit an old friend of Janice's and as we pulled into the street she lived in the gps showed that the 1st cache was only 400m away Smile

So after a bit of a chat and an explanation we went off to find it.

It took a while and is often the case just as we were about to give up due to time constraints Janice found it.

We didn't have time to walk to the 2nd cache so decided that that would have to do as it was now about 8pm.
We returned to the friends house and explained how we had found the 1st cache and that the gps now showed the second cache within 200m of her house.
So of course that was it she told us to get in the car and off we went to another entrance into the park.
With three of us now looking it didn't take long and the 2nd cache was found.

Took large beetle and left a smiley fridge magnet.

We seem to have followed the Sallies around the Sth Canterbury during our stay...thanks guys for giving us some great spots.

Papa Bear happened to be passing (look for a 'Buffy' waypoint nearby!) and thought he'd take one more look around. Parking close to GZ, he wandered in, looked in the right place, filled in the log and was gone in five minutes!
Now, how had an entire Bear pack missed it for an hour?!
Ah, well, life's like that. No swaps.
Thanks for checking it out and giving me the incentive to try again, Sallies!

25-Dec-03
Needed some exercise so decided to check this out late in the evening. There were still lots of people walking and biking along this track so we had to be crafty. Both caches are in place and well hidden. This is certainly a popular area so you need to be quick!

25-Dec-03
No trouble with WP1 (Papa Bear had been here the day before but a computer glitch left him with no cache descriptions) but WP2 eluded us. After reading the hint, and now that we've seen the spoiler photo, we see that there's been a lot of work going on here, and the clue feature's not there anymore.
Ah, well, if we ever feel like ferreting around in slightly unpleasant undergrowth, we know where to come back to.
A pleasant spot, in general, and thanks for showing it to us, Sallies.

20-Aug-03
Found the first one pretty easy with the help of the stump, more like 6 metres not 10. 10 would be knee deep in the swamp. Second one was harder than the first (10 min)GPS didn't work to well in the trees. Really nice walk though.
Took nothing
Left: dinosaur and a beatle on wheels.

21-Jun-03
What is it about this cache? Couldn't find it on two tries Sad - even though we used the clues and thanks to the spoiler photo know we located the correct stump. Is south really correct?

21-Apr-03
Found the first one relatively easily - giving the number of leaves around I think I was lucky! Had to wait for people walking by to disappear. Then wandered off to get the second, and there were four people about 30m away from the cache having a conversation, so I went for a walk and came back when they left. Took a while to find the right feature, but soon managed it. Nice walk! Cheers Gav [144]

26-Feb-03
A nice quick walk not far from home. I don't know why we hadn't done this one sooner. Each cache was found very quickly, the first being slightly harder because of poor GPS coverage.
-Necklace from Philipanes (kids think there cool)
+Keyring clip & Roll of insulation tape.
Thanks Sallies,
Greg

15-Feb-03
Lovely walk, took a while to find the first one but second one was a lot quicker.

20-Jan-03
Took Agent C.O.W travel bug on a brief visit to this cache just to start off the New Zealand leg of the quest!

20-Jan-03
Picked up Agent C.O.W again to move to a better, more secret, cache site.

19-Jan-03
Checked out all of our ChCh caches over the last couple of days after two had been tampered with. The only one now archived is Ilam. Checked the coordinates for this one after recent comments. The GPS took me to within 10 metres of the first cache and the directions were accurate to within 1 metre. Hint - take a tape measure when hiding or seeking a cache, you may look silly but you have to get caught first to feel silly!! The second lot of coordinates took me to within 1 metre of the second cache site. There was no trouble with brambles or bog so will leave the directions as they are. Happy geocaching!! Very Happy

31-Dec-02
With blackberry & swamp this may be better named Quarry Revenge! Well done those who've got it.

26-Nov-02
This was rather tricky - very poor GPS in the bush - was a bad GPS day for it too - there were 2 Satellites overhead and the rest on the horizon, unable to penetrate the bush. Anyway, using the clues we were able to find the caches. Thanks, Tim and Vida Smile

23-Nov-02
This was the second for the day. Found this one with Swanny. We searched for quite a while then decided to decrypt the clue. I managed to get very muddy feet searching for this one. I didnt swap anything.
Cheers Sallies.

23-Nov-02
Hmm... a bit closer than the gps said. Walked past trying to see if the track looped back on itself to find the first then went back and used the clue. Some people walked past at the seond cache, felt a bit dodgy hiding in the bushes. Took hyena for a walk and left DB15 connector.

01-Nov-02
4th cache on today's bike tour. Just came from Dudley/Shirley. Mmmm. That 1st container was a little tricky to locate. Went of the wrong stump at first then when I started to enter some bog I re-read the clue. Ooh - that stump! The second container was much easier to find. Off back to Bottle Lake now as I am getting hungry though I may divert and visit Angela on the way.
Thanks Sallies for the opportunity to visit further parts of Christchurch that were previously unknown to me.

29-Oct-02
We could not resist visiting this cache Red Face
Part one was pretty tough, even with the hint, while Part 2 was found quite quickly (which was good, as Bernadette had a meeting at 12pm, and we logged it about 11:30am Smile. We must not have gone far enough to see the playground at this cache. Thanks Sallies.
Cheers
Nick and Bernadette
