(10453) Another trip to Palmy to grab some more caches. A lovely warm day for it. A quick as a flash leap over the fence and the cache was soon in hand. Thanks JoeyGE0 for taking the time to place the cache and for bringing me here.
Awesome tree. Many hidey holes to place a cache! Love this building and I hope its being restored not demolished. Theres something about Brutalist architecture that I really like. Mihi ki a koe mo te keteroki #417
construction work happening here but lucky not on Sunday.lots of possible hide spots in an interesting tree.Squirrel Nutcase found it.TFTC
With Gap (of Fap and Gap) Manawatu, here we go!**The Long and Winding Road - The Beetles**The long and winding roadThat leads to your doorWill never disappearI've seen that road beforeIt always leads me hereLead me to you doorI was a bit apprehensive about this hide - We had to hop a fence to get there The tree is quite an imposing specimen. There were lots of nooks and crannies to investigate. We may gave circled a couple if times before spotting the cache. Thanks JoeyGEO. TFTC.
Another find after Venturers. Ground zero is currently fenced off so had to climb over a side fence. Thanks for the cache
I came up to palmy to see a friend's daughter in a dance competition then decided I should make a go for the 100 cache August souvenir by completing the Dannevirke helmet. But of course there is more to do than just that in a four-day weekend.Like this. Ethermiss and I are heading out for a few before the rest of the household wakes up.Funny how experience sets expectations. I was totally expecting a little library here. Like a pateke or a fridge. Abandoned. But no, this is a library built in the classic style, with windows and desks and things.Ethermiss said we should walk away, as there are fences up around the cache site. The place is a construction site. A destruction site? Not sure as no other sign, just the fences. Maybe we'll know in a few days.I didn't let a few fences stop me, and soon I was signing the log for us.
Extraordinary tree in an interesting location. I hope they find an appropriate use for the building. Thanks for the cache!
After attending the Coffee for the King event Talla64 and I went to find a few caches and this was one of them. I was a bit concerned when I saw the temporary fencing, but there was no problem, it was easy just to walk around it. The cache was a quick find. What an amazing tree. Thanks for the cache JoeyGEO.
After having "coffee with the king" and PopMac, Flowerydaze and I went on a search for caches around Palmerston north and this was one of them. Quite a hiding place ! I thought we could search for a month in this tree. TFTC JoeyGEO
Found Be careful you dont lift your head up into a branch and make yourself bleed like i did.Nice little hidey hole
This one was great fun! Was pulled up by the library owner for parking there but he let us off with a warning! Hope someone finds the little friend I left there! Treat him kindly!
Glad to have found this one fairly quickly as lots of spots it could be.Very interesting tree!Thank you JoeyGE0 for placing this cache.Log signed as B&PFind number 5180
Forth cache for the 29th Feb 24. Been to Auckland on business and was able to get one cache in Auckland at lunch time, then light flight back to Palmy, Found at night with a torch ok. All good onsite.
A shame the building is not getting used, Plenty of hiding spaces on that tree, a quick find TFTC. Watchout for the cameras they go at you if to close. Thanks @JoeyGEO for placing the cache.
Another nice trip to the Palmerston North area with woolwood9.*Good weather and many nice caches found.* I am a lot slower now and our target caches are fewer on these trips.SL *tm/ww NZ*Thanks for giving us a reason to visit. Very lovely tree and I found this one where ww9 had looked!I liked the area, about time this cache had a FP.
Nice trip up to Palmerston North today with tmann421 to collect some caches. It was drizzling when we left Waikanae but the weather man told us last night that the sun would be out in PN. He did not disappoint.I did a couple of circuits around the tree before I heard the FOUND IT by tmann421I remember when this Library was open!!Thanks JoeyGeo
Arrived at GZ and was both excited and daunted by what looked like a challenging task. Searched the most obvious places given the clue to no avail. By raising the search zone up slightly it wasnt long before we had the cache in hand. Tftc
I was in town visiting a fallen comrade in hospital, so figured I might as well grab a near by cache as well.
There were no muggles around which made for an easy quick find.
Thanks for putting this here

I was in Palmy this afternoon and thought a couple of caches would be a good idea on this mild late afternoon.
This was the first cache and after a good look at a couple of locations the cache was soon spotted in a completely different spot.

A quick find thank you JoeyGEO.
Out and about caching with Itchyfeet2020 and matagouri for a fun day caching in and around Palmerston North to cache and to visit friends at a board gaming day. Apologies for the late log. Not quite sure how we signed it -either with our individual names or 3W for the 3 Wellingtonians.
Kia ora rawa atu for the cache JoeyGE0.

Out for a day's caching in Palmy with NZ_B and Itchyfeet2020. End of the day, starting to get dark as we parked close to GZ. A brief search soon turned up the well hidden cache. All good, tftc!
On a road trip with NZ_B and matagouri today and in the area. You're right a great old building and stately tree. Great stop on our travels, thank you.
Three searches around the base yielded nothing. One search in the nested part and it was found. TFTC.
Heading up to PN as part of the 'broken biscuits ' (well it was ANZAC day), and we were in 2 cars.
25 April 2023 12:51 Number 12568 for me. TFTC JoeyGE0 for placing this cache for us to find.

Needed about 60 caches today to make the 100 for April, so went out for a day with BFG, Denomynator, bruzie, GSEL and Infoferret. Managed about 30 only odd today with a few DNF's. Swapped cars at the end to make a few more and got back around 9:15pm after the last handful in the dark. Signed as "Broken Biscuits". Awesome tree.. Loved the gnarly roots... T4TC
#12,823. The team from Wellington came up to attend the ANZAC day event. After it was over we took on a host of local caches to boost the April find count. This was one of them. That is one huge tree. BFG was checking the correct side and soon had his hands on the cache. It was signed as "Broken Biscuits," our tag name for the day as we were driving around in two cars (I had to ask as well - think Anzac biscuits spilt in two). Anyway the cache was replaced as found and it was on to the next one. Thanks JoeyGEO for hiding it here.
The Wellington contingent of myself, barefootguru, CrystalFairy, Denominator, GSEL and InfoFerret headed up to Palmerston North today for the Calling All Troops event and other caches. Logs signed as Broken Biscuits (or some form of BBCDGI or other).
That is an interesting tree!
All good here and TFTC.
Find #5585

Quick find by the Broken Biscuits team (because we came up for an ANZAC Day event). Awesome root structure, thanks JoeyGE0
Another building sitting abandoned, won't be long before it gets vandalized, found the cache pretty quickly, tftc joeyGE0
In Palmy today for an appointment at the (murder house) dentist and called into this guy on our way home.
Found after a short search.
Thanks for the placement and the smiley

Tree has been trimmed and a lot of branches on ground but still found it as in the hint.
Mum is helping me log all my caches that I haven't logged yet.Found with Mum (LL113) and the EtherKids.
*Catching up on some logging*
Miss 10 (UnicornLex) and I are staying with the Etherlord Clan over Waitangi Weekend. Today we are heading out for a spot of cache hunting. (What I mean to say is Etherlord is our own personal chauffeur around some interesting caches in Palmy).
The GeoKids helped to look for this one, and with 5 pairs of eyes searching it didn't take long to spot the cache in it's hiding spot.
Thanks for the cache.

We had a hard time finding the jar with the tracker, but we used other peoples hints and 8yo found it in a more obvious place - under a small…….(camo)
I noticed this cache the other night and filed it away for future use. So on my way home after attending All7ofus end of year event, where I traveled past GZ I stopped and collected this cache nestled where it should in this massive impressive tree. What a specimen! Tftc.
I don't need to find a cache today for any reason other than I need to get out of the house and Geocaching is a good a reason as any!
(As if a reason is ever needed to go caching?!?)
There are tRumors that an un-activated trackable has been left in this cache by a visiting Reviewer, but I only found an activated one...
Oh well, I'll try and acquire one at one of tomorrow's events instead.
I searched many spots on the host, all at the wrong elevation until I looked at the hint. Then it was a quick find.

With a tight schedule the next few days I wanted the reviewer TB so swapped one of my current inventory to compensate the freebie
Lots of potential hiding spots here, even with 3 sets of eyes it took a while to locate it, but eventually the cache was found. Left a reviewer trackable for the next finder.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
Out finding some caches with 2wombles and little womble. Thanks JoeyGE0 for the cache.
We felt lucky that it didn't take too long to find this cache, not exactly where we were expecting it, after cautiously wandering around on the uneven tree roots. TFTC
Quick stop with my tribe! Sheltering from the rain! Very excited 8 yr old finding it for the first time!
Thank you for the cache.
Thank you for the cache.
Just had time to collect two caches this evening. It was late and no one around to disturb the search. Great tree. Kind of guessed where it wood be. Tonight was the last blood moon total lunar eclipse for the next 3 years. Strange swing the full moon slowly change colour. Not the best photo but you’ll get an idea of what it looked like. Thanks JoeyGE0.
Very impressive tree! I'm disappointed that something hasn't been done about this building - its very cool and must be owned by somebody.
I never realized this had been given up as a building, I think it used to be National archives or similar. After a few circuits of the impressive host I spotted a telltale sign of camo and twigged where it would be - yup, gotcha!
It's getting down to the last few days of October, which is typically my busiest caching month of the year, and same this year. However I've hardly been out, just 5 times so far this month, so I was keen to get out locally, place a couple of my own, and make a few finds to keep things ticking over. Got into double figures for the day and many of JOEYGEO's recent efforts were on my wishlist, and most were located. Thanks to all COs for their caches today.

Planned a route a few days to collect 4 caches, today was a perfect day to do it.
Thanks for the placement, cache was all in good order.
Quick find at gz

We had to pop put this afternoon, vaguely in this general direction, so why not visit the cache too?
It was quite nostalgic visiting this once familiar place after a long time. It was the School Library Service part of the National Library. I was able to use it and its great resources when I was home schooling our son. It's a shame that it now sits abandoned. It's an interesting building - you'd think it could have been re-purposed.
What an interesting tree hosts the cache. After a little scramble Mr G soon located the cache while I was still waiting for the GPS to settle! The hint was helpful. TFTC JoeyGE0.

My last dot day in October taken care of. Reasonably quick find. Thanks JoeyGeo.
Thanks JoeyGE0 for placing this cache in a great spot... plenty of off-street parking here and a nice shady spot too for caching on a hot summers day ️

First Day Find.
Well my day didn't quite turn out as I had expected this morning, but that's just life I guess. I had originally planned on heading up to Palmy, by way of Foxton (to do a little cache maintenance) and then to maybe catch up with some friends and do a little caching too to try to keep up with the steady flow of new cache releases here over the last few months.
That first part certainly happened. But I had only been in Palmy for a short while, and was walking to get this cache, when I found out that another mate of mine (Yeti NZ) needed a hand in Feilding. So having sorted that issue out, and then doing some caching in Feilding, I eventually picked up where I left off in Palmy.
I'd missed the publication notice for this cache, but there's no way I would have been FTF anyway, so I was happy enough to come and have a look for it late this afternoon. What an interesting tree! So many good potential hide locations to choose from, but 1 quick circle around produced the goods.
A quick sign of the log, and I was able to replace back as found ready for the next finder.
Thanks for bringing me to this interesting location.

Hmm I find it hard to believe I didn't score the FTF on this cache as I found it at 1134 after 8 minutes searching yet I was beaten to second place by 14mins by haydn.seek. Great hide object. TFTC
I was just checking e mails on the P C when this came through and it was only one and half kms away and i knew exactly the general area where it would be, I set off straight away to GZ- even tho i was meant to be going out at 12.00pm- and parked in the same spot as where i used to park regularly when collecting new books for school a couple of times a term , and set off to the said tree, I have never noticed what a wonderful tree this actually is . Some type of figus i guess. I had to be careful circumnavigating the tree on such un even ground but after one sweep i turned and was soon upon it. I had to be {FTF} as no other cacher or car was anywhere near and it was only 5 mins since it was published ! I signed the log , replaced, covered and thought i had clicked the send button for the log but it wasn't until i was back home i saw i still had not sent it so that was then rectified . thank you for this new cache at such an interesting shaped/formed tree.
It's been an interesting day of geocaching today, complete with three 'failed to be fast enough' to be first to find, one successful first to find, four did not finds, twenty two successful finds, multiple 'can I help you's as I was searching, and a dead car battery with the rescue coming from a fellow Geocacher (it is so much easier to tell someone where you are stranded when you only have to give a GC code).
This was my fifth cache of the day, and my third failed to be fast enough. I was half way around Mt Lees reserve when the notification came through, so I fast tracked it back to the car and made my way here. When I arrived I saw a car parked nearby, and sure enough it was the cacher who had beaten me at the previous two. He thought he had made it here first too, but it turned out that he had also been beaten to the first find. There is some justice there.
It took me a couple of laps of the obvious location to uncover the cache, as there are plenty of good spots it could have been - but only one that it was. Cache was in excellent condition, and returned under cover for the next searcher to struggle with.
Thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache.
I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with CO's placing them and taking care of them that this wonderful game continues.
