Beautiful October day in Canberra, just before sun is setting, with cachemetwerking
Had been with geogeneve when she got this one previously so was satisfying to grab while admiring the beautiful weather with WesternSydWanderer - TFTC
Found with Loci612 on a lovely morning walk up and around Mt Majura, plus a few other caches after. Quick find at the top, another great TE container and amazing views from up here. You could hear the radar spinning around. I haven't been up here for years, it was great to return. TFTC!
Great views from this location around town. An enjoyable day caching a trail of letterbox hybrids. Thanks for the fun.
Found while going for a walk up Mt Majura with a muggle friend. I had found this one on my previous visit a couple of months ago, but I had felt certain that time that I had done it before (didn't bother checking then!). We had walked from the Majura Pines parking area and were hot and sweaty. We'd seen yellow tailed black cockatoos, crimson rosellas, kangaroos, silvereyes, wrens, and maybe a spinebill. Log signed and we spent a little while having a drink of water and admiring the view. Maybe my friend might become interested in caching? TFTC.
We recall finding a cache fairly close to this one many years ago in our very early years of Geocaching. Today we spent some hours up over and around Mount Majura. It was a great day for walking with cold weather and clear skies, before the clouds came in which dropped the temperature very quickly. We found this one after a quick search and enjoyed the views from the top across to the other Mountains nearby. Although it was freezing at the top, we could not see any snow on the mountains in the distance today. Log signed and then we gradually began to make our way down the mountain again. Thanks Tankengine Domsky
Its been a while since I had a mega day of geocaching, and I was due for my yearly attempt to set a new PB for caches found per day. I awoke at 5am this morning and headed out into the freezing cold on a cache grabbing extravaganza. I started the day focusing on some AL stages in and around North Canberra (freezing my fingers off), before going out to the Hughie Edwards VC Rest Area. I did the power trail along Majura Parkway getting all the way to IKEA! and then returned via a slog up Mt Majura. Highlights of the day were almost hitting a kangaroo 5mins after I left home, getting my shoes wet multiple times, climbing Mt Majura for the first time, and the delicious salted caramel biscuits I brought along. Was very helpful to have these caches to keep motivated on the way to the summit. Smaller subgoals rather than a big overwhelming climb!TFTC!
34,736. Found with GSC2000 during a wander around Mt Majura finding caches. It is a rare occasion that GSC2000 and I get to go caching together. Today we ventured up a familiar hill to find some caches and enjoy the views. Parked at the (usually) locked gate (it was open today being used by trucks in the Winery) and hit the road for the crawl up to the peak. This was the next new cache on the agenda, and it was nice to get to the top. Quick find once at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then we continued down the other side on the trail. Thanks Tankengine !!
Initially, I had trouble finding this one; coordinates jumped around a bit, and muggles kept walking past.I took a break from searching and walked up to the summit. As I did so, someone from one of the groups of muggles walked down to where I'd just been and started searching! I walked up to his friends and asked, "Are you geocaching?" "Yes, he is" was their reply. I went down to the road again and we started searching. I soon widened my search area and found the geocache easily. We both signed the log, chatted briefly about geocaching, then headed off in our own directions...Thanks for the cache, Tankengine!* * * * *I set out this morning to approach Mt Majura from the northern side. My plan was to geocache my way to the summit, down the other side, find my way back to Majura Parkway, and geocache my way along the path, back to my car. I had a hot breakfast, packed my portable charging pack and a bottle of water, put on sunscreen and a hat, and set out.Everything went without a hitch for the first hour or so.Having made it to the summit, started down the other side, and found Third Time Lucky, I had trouble distinguishing the path downhill. So I just made a beeline for Majura Glen and walked/scrambled straight down into the ravine. It was as I found that geocache, my tenth for the morning, that I realised that Id left the cable to plug my phone into the charger in the car (Id be charging the phone as I drove here). At this point, I had about 42% battery remaining. I turned off all non-essential appsnstuff to conserve the battery.Given that I had just rejoined the path from an unorthodox direction, I wasnt 100% sure which way to go from there. A couple of men were walking from what looked like downhill. I asked them if that was the way downhill, and they confirmed that it was. It turns out that I asked the wrong question, and should have looked at the map on the geocaching app.I followed their path and found myself and Majuras Grand Duke. From there I followed a path west for a few hundred metres, then found that I was only getting further away from where I wanted to be. I went back to the intersection of the paths and followed a different one south for a few hundred metres. I realised, again, that I was not heading where I wanted to.At this point I pulled up Google Maps and tried to work out the quickest way back to my car. It was, of course, back over the summit of Mount Majura. So I headed back to the intersection again and headed north. This allowed me to pick up Majura Meadow as I went. Once Id found that, I realised that, between me and the summit, was a crazy geocache called Majuras Madness. When Id looked at this from the top of the mountain Id decided that it was, indeed, madness to attempt it. Now, it was the shortest way back to the car.I followed the track as far as it went then just followed the compass on the app to the geocache. Down into a ravine and back up the side of the mountain, I followed wallaby trails, stopping regularly to catch my breath, check that I was going in the right direction, and choose a new headmark.I was very pleased to find the cache! I was less pleased to realise that the hardest part of the climb, up to the summit, was still ahead of me. I made regular stops to sip some water and to let my poor heart stop trying to thump out of my chest!I cannot tell you how pleased I was to make it back to the summit the second time that I climbed Mount Majura in one day. It was a far more pleasant walk down the hill back to the car
Geohubby (GeoTigerAce) and I are headed off on a 4 week holiday from Brisbane heading to Canberra, Parkes, Katoomba, Sydney, Melbourne, Ballarat, Dubbo, and Coonabarabran as our main stops, with lots of side stops along the way planned. A much needed road trip to take in the sites and spend some time away in nature.Over the course of our 4 weeks I wanted to focus on Australia's 'oldest' caches, and caches of interest (e.g., iconic locations, interesting locations, lots of favourite points, and places I have never been) as well as hitting my next milestone (#600). It has been a wonderful trip and we have seen so much, and spent a lot of time caching and exploring little places of interest. Thanks to all of the cache owners for maintaining these caches and bringing us to beautiful places on our travels, and challenging us to keep on looking at the world just a little bit differently. Lots of memories have been made.Day 5: TripCache #21: I climbed a mountain - so freaking proud of myself. It wasn't an easy trek (particularly the parts where I was on hands and needs crawling up a waterfall haha!)....but, I did it. Log signed and replaced - all good here. TFTC.
On a road trip heading South from Brisbsne with CaptainKirky. Thought we would go out to grab a few caches. After finding one of the oldest caches in Australia, thought we would grab a few more before heading back to our car. Another great find with a view.
Yay back at the top of the mountain again. I love hills.
What a wonderful day for walking up the hill. We left a car at the bottom near Hackett and drove around to start on the other side. An excellent idea as the closed gate has shifter about a kilometre up the road.
Signing as JACCS for Joolay, AngelG27, Contesta, Cas (Pantspeople) and Sebass19.
Thanks for getting me out and about Tankengine

Making the most of the opportunity to duck out for a few hours of caching fun. Seeking out the occasional challenge or two, or trying to mop up as many solves as I can to keep that long list under control. Seems to increase faster than it decreases

Cache 10345 on 23 Jul 2023.
A small group (Pantspeople, Contesta, Joolay, Seabass and myself) meet on the flanks of Mt Majura for a mid-winter mad meander over and around the mini mount. There was definitely some madness and meandering going on, along with some exercise, so I call that a win!
Gorgeous CBR weather and blue skies forever!
Good to finally get to the top after clambering around the sides of Mount Majura for years!
Thanks Tankengine for the cache and the fun!

Nice to see a new cache up Mount Majura! Great views from here and a nice quick find to boot. TFTC Tankengine!
#3712 This was as close to the summit as we reached today. A quick find at GZ before heading back down a slippery slope to Majura Madness. Thanks Tankengine.
A 3 kilometre walk around Mt Majura for a few new caches. I was not going to sign this one as I thought I had found it some years ago, fortunately I did sign it as on getting home discovered it was a new cache I had not logged. TFTC.
Thought I had found this one here, years ago, and was wondering why I didn’t have a smiley. So on my way past today I decided I would re-find it so I could log it as today. Once I started to look for it and found it. I realised it was a new one. That’s why I didn’t have a smiley. It was found, log, signed and situation rectified. TFTC
Day 2 of Chook's Canberra hiking trip with WendyB158. This morning we started in Hackett and walked to the top of Mt Majura. We separated from the other members of our walking group, partly because the two of us are a tad slower and we didn't want to hold them up for their longer distance targets today, and also because Wendy has Izzy dog, so we aren't allowed in the Goorooyarroo section of the CCT. So we headed back down the hill and did other walks in the afternoon. Wendy, being new to caching, clocked up a few more finds today, this one being one of them. Loved the walk and the views today, even though it was really still and humid after last night's rain. TFTC Tankengine, for placing a cache up here in this lovely location.
Again with Chook, fabulous views, really challenging as entertaining but made it. So many first, first bison
A nice walk up the hill this morning, and the cache was quickly found (unlike my old one up here!). Had a chat with one of the workers before heading back down.
Thanks,
Thanks,
Plenty of planes taking off today all heading North .
Always a nice view from the top with no one around .
Thanks to Tankengine for the mountain top ache hide .

Oh, you can park there now, good to know. Continued the remainder of the way from the new locked gate to the summit where the cache was quickly found, signed and replaced. Always fun ascending MM, just that little bit easier now. TNLNSL TFTC
Found while up on the mountain.
A nice although steep walk. But now I’m heading down again it feels worth it. Looking forward to the next time we come up. Great views too. Tftc!!!

More new caches to get in a now familiar spot had me decide to come out for more and found the other new ones up here as well while at it.
I did not however go down through that jungel to the cache below (as I had hoped) all that overgrown grass will hopefully disappear eventually.
Quick find, nice cache, all in good order.
Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

It’s great to have another cache up hereon a mountain which, if not beyond Canberra, at least has nice views of it!
I decided this was worth employing the eTOTT to retrieve, so I parked at the ‘old’ gate - which is now permanently open, it seems - and ride up at a steady and sedate 21.5km/hr. There’s a new locked gate right where old mate has had his caravan parked for over a year.
Upon reaching GZ the cache was quickly located in an obvious spot. I do like the location markings on this container! Signed and replaced without being disturbed, I had time for a quick gratuitous air surveillance radar pic before descending the hill at a bottom-clenching 53km/hr before recalling the new gate and gingerly applying the brakes.
Up and back in 11 minutes. Heaps of fun - thanks, Tankengine!
I like these sorts of locations; a favourite from me.

Enjoyed the walk up here with DSD and pantspeople today! They also managed to pick up a couple extra's just off the road on the way which was a bonus!
We soon reached the top and a very familiar GZ presented itself, however the cache hide was a lot more Tankengine like and easier to find then the previous one!
Thanks for the fun

Found and signed dsd or darksidedan or AB or Adventure Boys. Thanks for the cache and the Adventure.
Found with Loci612 and DSD. The high point of today’s expedition in elevation terms, although not quite at the peak … wonderful views from the top here as always, although very foggy today. Good spot for plane watching too.
Nice and easy (Adam Lebryzy) to find the hide. Might be Canberra’s highest GR cache … no muggles present to interfere, although some intrepid folk did appear to join us at the summit not long after we restored the container to its home. TFTC TE

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

I had promised the geohound a non-suburban walk and with a FTF beckoning we didn't need to decide where to go. I had hoped to watch the sunrise - my favourite time of the day - but with a decent cloud cover we didn't get any fantastic colours, it just got lighter as we walked up the hill.
I had treated us to driving around to the service road instead of walking from home. The lower gate was open, but I decided to still park here ... I did promise that W.A.L.K.
It was an uneventful walk up - though there were a few strange dark shapes in the bush, but they all turned out to be, well, bush. The dog missed a Roo sitting near the path and once up on top we made a beeline for the cache.
Quick find (unlike the cache that used to be on top of Mt Majura, that took me two or three visits to find).
We then took an obligatory trig photo and started walking back.
We met one serious hiker on the way down and a number of rabbits.
Butterflies, Dragonflies, and birds started to emerge into daylight.
Got back home just on 7 am for a coffee, water and a Spear Grass seed check.

A steady ride up, a quick find and a fun fast ride down. I parked at the old gate which was open, but discovered there is now a new gate further up, so could have driven further up to park. (It appears the old gate is no longer used.) TFTC.

Different morning sorting out a flat tyre on the bike. Once resolved off to get the Mount Majura cache and others. Fantastic views. TFTC
Being in the area mid-morning to address some domestic duties it was a no brainer to pick this cache up on the way through. With limited time for caching I decided to take my bike. With the lower, original gate now open we drove to the new gate higher up. This saved me precious time to get back to other priority tasks of the day.
A quick find with both TikvaNZ and Isopedia having also been here this morning. We then walked up to the trig as I have previously hiked up here to the road a couple of times, coming from the burbs, but never before ventured this far. Quick and easy scramble up, and really enjoyed the views. Yes, a quick find of the cache, far easier than the previous cache hidden in this location. TFTC Tankengine.
