Logs
We spent most of today in the Whangrei Heads area and picked up a few caches along the way. Took the geohound for a walk along this trail and up five caches. Found this one reasonably quickly. #8037. TFTC.
Whilst Tjay and the oldest went to home bay for the tree planting the youngest and I took the small walk around the base of Mt Aubrey. Weather was amazing and our youngest loved being free to explore the track.
Love it, took some goodies and left something useful. Annoyingly we didnt have a pen on us!
Out for an evening walk with rattll, around the coast at Whangarei Heads. Approaching GZ, I thought that there might be several possible hiding places, but coordinates pointed to just one. Rattll took the direct route, and battled with branches in her way. I took a slightly longer approach. We arrived at the tree at the same time. All good in the container, and I picked up a TB. Signed, and returned as found. Tftc!
I parked up for the night and headed out for a late afternoon/early evening walk with matagouri, enjoying the beautiful scenery as we walked.A pretty straightforward find here once at GZ.Thanks for putting this here
Nearly trudged on past, but made the easy find & grab, just to linger in the shade a while longer TFTC!
I'm back up in my home town of Whangarei for the weekend, visiting family. This afternoon I headed out to Whangarei Heads for some exploring and caching, including walking around this series of caches around Reotahi... an area my parents once owned a section many years ago. A quick find here as I made my way along the trail. TFTC!
Quick find as the container was visible from the track. Cosied it back in it's hidey hole.
Such a cool cache my dad thinks a better clue would be rhymes with "shine me face". Happy times.
After reaching GZ, ekitten quickly found the cache. Also found with kan0e and LI0Npaw.
Why do dog owners go to the trouble of bagging the dog poo and throwing it near caches?
Out and about with the kids doing the walk around Reotahi. Decided to grab the caches at the same time. We approached via the wharf end. Got to GZ and there was only one place it could be. Cache quickly located. Signed and replaced - off to the next. TFTC
This track would be a lovely adventure for children, there are lots of trinket treasures for swaps placed by the CO. I rather liked the butterfly, but best to leave for a younger geocacher to locate.
Saw notification of these new caches pop up in my email and thought "that's a track that I didn't know about". With the weekend upon us we spent most of it working on a garden project before deciding to take a break late Sunday afternoon to walk this small part of the Te Araroa trail.
Parking at the Whangarei Heads Pioneer Church in Stuart Road was the starting point for our evening walk and cache hunt. The start of this little expedition is an easy walk along Stuart Road towards the jetty and once at the road end by the jetty the actual track starts.
Wandering along the track we passed a local who was out for the evening taking photos so the hope was that we would not be "muggled" when we reached GZ for the "Pining" cache. At GZ the tree in question was easy to spot so into the bush I dived to quickly return with the cache container. Log signed and the cache safely returned before the local photographer came around the corner, phew that was close...
After a quick chat, and a chance to educate someone new on the whole geocaching craze, we set off towards the nest target.

It was spitting a bit by this point so I was very glad of my rain jacket. I set the phone GPS on talking and put it in my pocket as my phone isn't fond of rain. I ended up going one too far before looking at the GPS myself. Nice that all the hides have been different so far. It really is a lovely walkway. I was very pleased I managed to keep the cache and log dry under my coat. {FTF} at 8.35am. Covered it up again and carried on with my exciting walk. Thanks for the caches
