M26: it was a dot day today, and the weather was on/off at the time, so me and Astrolovers went bastion Point and he completed the Ad Lab and its bonus, after that, the weather eased up and we went for it. After walking across the path, went past some people fishing, jumped across the rocks, then found the cache easily. Favorite point given for location. Log all good here. TFTC.
We tacked on this adventure half way through an Orakei/waterfront walk. What a jaunt! Seemed to take forever to walk along the wall, though I was very grateful for the netting. Got to the sign and Ruth chickened out, leaving Hide to scramble over the rocks to the lighthouse. Watched on for quite a while until I could see a thumbs up sign. Relieved, I set off on the return journey, this time pausing to admire the view. Glad it wasnt a windy day. Thanks Gorby for our morning adventure. Cant believe you walked there in jandals ha ha.
Was dubious about the weather today, but had a hankering to do some finding instead of hiding. Lighthouses have been a theme in my life of late, so this cache was my choice for today + the "webcam" cache nearby. Thanks gorby for this one - great photo spot! #108
I'm in Auckland for a couple of days and for a change it has nothing to do with work (up the Irons!). So I've got nothing to stop my caching activities except being limited to public transport. Maybe I'll spot a Yeti with his very distinctive coat (GCAT2T2).The term out to the beacon it's definitely not for lime scooters! Quite stumbly at the end.All good here, and thank you to Gorbygorbachov for the placement of your Traditional Cache.Find #7091 at 16 September 2024 3:59pm
I took my e-bike almost to GZ, fell off when I hit a bigger than expected pot hole, but I had my helmet on, kept it on when I had to walk the last bit to the light house. Well, people the cache is still there I'm happy to report. LH side of the front concrete as you approach, look right down low and you'll see a bit of drift wood stuck in a rubber hose. Good luck!
Had a decent look around here however no luck. Nice spot to walk out here regardless.
I came out to the lighthouse which was still a lovely view and I enjoyed the scrabble over the rocks. Unfortunately with two people fishing I didn't want to seem weird searching too much, lots of rubbish around the bottom of the lighthouse too. I couldn't see what the hint refers to either, better luck to the next person
Whilst doing a big walk around the waterfront trying to reach our first 50 caches we had a fun and beautiful walk to reach a great secluded spot we wouldnt normally go to so thank you! We found the cache and logged it! Tftc #44
This cache was the start of a fun afternoon and evening, getting a few different caches. Beautiful day, headed out to meet SmallPooka to find this cache together. We spent an embarrassingly long time looking in all the wrong places for it, finding a lot of rubbish, getting dirty and frustrated. Eventually gave up, and headed away, but did ask the CO if he might be able to give us some advice. Thankfully he contacted us before we got very far way, and we went back to check the location we had spent a heck of a lot of time already scrabbling around in. Suddenly I found it, in a much easier and logical spot than I had been looking.. so what do you know.. it was actually there!.So this cache really is well hidden, and easier than you would expect if you look in the right place!
This cache has been on my list for a little while, as it completes a bingo line on my D/T grid, but also it looks like fun. We met up at 4 and started the walk, it was a really lovely day for it. Upon arriving at GZ we started the search and we just couldn't seem to find it. Glen eventually reached out to CO, who confirmed we were searching in the right place, and we started the search again. Turns out we had somehow missed it each time we searched but this time we had our hands on it almost immediately. Thanks for the help Gorby we appreciate it. Great area for a cache. TFTC #1756
KC and I actually came out here on Tuesday to have a look for this and had a spare log book on us to replace it. Walked all the way out there and the fishermen were right where we wanted to look. Arranged to come back today not realising it had been disabled. Today no one was fishing off the lighthouse so we could look in peace. Found what we considered to be the outer layer of the cache and with us still having the log book on us, we wedged it into the outer container and with it being waterproof should last until the CO can get out there. Pic sent to owner and logging with permission. This was a great adventure that we did twice and an easy fav point.
Another sunny Sunday morning out caching with Team Welsh. This cache was our meet up point, a repeat of Tuesday morning when we failed to locate the cache because fishermen were at GZ. We could see that it was all clear today so we made our way out to the lighthouse and began hunting for the cache. Eventually one of us spotted the item mentioned in the hint. There was only the outer layer so we wedged something else in to help hold the log in place, and sent photos off to the CO. Thanks for the adventure. Adding a favourite point.
Logging my DNF with a delay (still travelling, internet is not always available) and reading other logs, which sent a photo instead, it seems cache maintenance is in order.
Yes, it sounds like I need to do some maintenance, I'll be along soon and hope those bloody fishermen stop making so much rubbish! They are so careless and brazen and selfish. I'll bring along a rubbish bag and check on the cache too.
Visiting the North Island from Ottawa, Canada, by way of the South Island, and Sydney. Gotta get some caches along the way. Visiting the Mission Bay area today. Didn't find a log, but found something we thought was significant, so sent a photo to the CO and was permitted to log a find. TFTC
Unexpected bike trip to the city! First time on the train with the bike (in AKL) . I took the Onehunga Line to Newmarket and then Western Line to Britomart. I had this cache for a long time on my "to do list" but when last time I was nearby this cache was disabled because of nesting birds or so. I couldn`t cycle to the sign as the surface of this patchway wasn't good for my bike. But I had my bike with me. Near GZ, a poor fisherman was struggling with a massive stingray on his tinny fishirod , finally he broke the rod ...Location: Beautiful spot and very picturesque but I discover it polluted by fishing rubbish and so on. Basically there is rubbish under every stone near the lighthouse. So searching for a cache in such an environment is not my favourite thing to do.I`v found something matching the hint but not at the spot mentioned by the hint. Logbook is missing so I took a picture instead and asked CO later on to confirm whether I had found it or not ... CO replied to me that I`ve found the cache and I`ve got the green light to log it. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC!
No luck, just a lot of rubbish.Arrived in Auckland very late last night from Melbourne with my bestfriend geocacher Ironford. We decided to spend the day walking after being on planes a lot recently literally flying half across the world, so we walked from the CBD to Mission Bay beach and all the way back. It was amazing to spend the day so close to the sea - coming from a landlocked country, I couldn't get enough. We tried our best with this one, probably annoying the two fishermen sitting at the lighthouse with our 30-minute search, but we found only what other geocachers have already described in their logs - a messy, polluted area. As I'm logging this with a long delay (we are still travelling), I have only just read the logs above mine that taking a picture is an acceptable way of logging this cache instead of a proper log in the logbook (which is obviously missing). Unfortunately for us, we did not take pictures while searching, so this is a DNF.
Riding out to Mission Bay on my first day in Auckland. Wasn't well equipped for a 4T but reading some of the logs and inspecting GZ felt doable.Nice walk out to the sign, and then a bit of rockhopping and I was at the lighthouse. Even with the hint wasn't the most straightforward of finds, but another unique container.Another fave from me... That's 2 from 2... Quickly becoming my top New Zealand CO.CHEERS!
Great location, all in order here. Yes, interesting discussion on the Terrain 4 - as the average GCer can probably walk to this with no special equipment or preparation, I would rate it maybe a 3?
I don't restart work again until the 8th of Jan. With free accommodation here I decided a geocaching holiday in Auckland was a good way to spend this week off. Most of the week I geocached with Yvettetb but the beginning and end I was on my own. Todays focus area was around the Orakei Basin area and mostly Saint John's. I did say there was a good Fish and Chip shop for dinner in Mission Bay. It turned out to be Saint Helliers. Oops! No wonder I had trouble spotting it in Mission Bay, lol.Again I parked on Tamiki Drive and walked to this one as I didn't know if there was public parking within the gates. I loved the walk along the gabion wall and the last scramble over the rocks out to this one. Thanks to a good hint it was an easy find at gz. Nice to meet Squirrelinthemiddle on my way back. Thanks for your hide at this really cool place:)
I'm glad I was brave about the rock hopping and did this, as on the way I met Lis' s crew coming back ( suspected she was on the hunt when I saw her set out), there is a gorgeous view AND I did my first d4. Thanks to G2 for the new pen ( first use.) Also Mr Squirrel for minding the bikes. Off to hunt for more.
Its my second last day in Auckland and after visiting a park with my son and grandson, I was dropped off nearby for some geocaching. This was a fun cache and as I dont mind a bit of rock hopping, I found the last section easier than the gabion wall where I had to really keep an eye on my feet. Fp and tftc
Found this one some time ago and forgot to log it. It was pretty rough under foot to get all the way out here. Got it done just in time as on my way out the fisherpeople were on there way in to the spot.
It was nice to be able to get out on a Saturday without rain or wind and have a walk along Tamaki Drive after lunch at Mission Bay. Intended to walk all of the way to this one but time was marching on so we turned back just before Okahu Bay and decided to drive down to the carpark close by.Nice walk out here with some fine looking boats in the marina, although Mrs B was keeping her eyes firmly on the trail worried about get stuck in one of the holes in the wire mesh along the way. We both made it as far as the end of the wire mesh track but Mrs B decided not to clamber over the rocks at the end. She did however serve a very important purpose as there were several fishermen sitting at the lighthouse observing me as I made my way out there. I quickly spotted what I was looking for but had several set of eyes on me, it was then that Mrs B took her phone out and pretended to take a few photos of me out there to great effect, as the fishermen quickly look away and went about their business. The cache was quickly grabbed, signed and placed back in position. Interesting to note I was not the only visitor to it today. Thanks for placing this cache in an interesting location, loved the views from here.
As we were getting close to gz, we werent sure we would be able to find the cache as there were 3 fishermen by the lighthouse. Luckily, there were fishing on the opposite side from the cache. We also spotted a number of oyster catcher by the gabion wall. TFTC
Bem Haja.
Lovely views. Unsuitable for children, dogs and old people (like me) but thank you.
Up in Auckland again with KGD and ABCDF4
Our Plan today was just a day out
First one for the day, nice walk out to the Lighthouse

Up with ABCDF4 and eyespyben. Had to wait in the car for a shower to pass over. Walk out to GZ was not as bad as I had expected. The last bit apart. Once at the lighthouse cache was quickly located and sign. Weather no good for photo but by the time we were back at the car it had changed. Thank you for bring us out here.
A quick easy find! Walking out was easy, for myself, not so much the geoboyfriend.
Such a gorgeous area! Never been here!

Up in Auckland for a short break. Had seen this previous but was disabled due to the birds. Today was the day for a walk. Only took about 10 mins to walk to gz and a short search to find cache. Was a fun little walk and rock hopping to get to gz. Neat little lighthouse. Great place to place a cache. A fav point from us

The sun finally came out after a very wet, cold Wintery week so we headed out to find a couple of caches.
This one has looked intriguing so it was on our list for today. We passed many fisherman fishing off the rocks on our way to gz, but none of them looked very successful today.
Once at gz, the cache was soon in hand thanks ti the detailed hint.
Favourite point for the adventure here today

Yepp, you are right, a little bit difficult and also very cool. An easy find with the help of the hint as well, at least after you reached GZ that is. This place definitely needed a cache, well done, and I enjoyed every bit of it. Nice adventure. Quite windy at the lighthouse and probably no fun in high heels... will award FP as soon as I get the next.
Thanks for hiding and maintaining. Tftc

I caught the TMK bus after work this afternoon with the intention of making this hide today's find. I jumped off the bus and made the walk along the path to where the rocks/gabion walkway began. Luckily, there was a break in the rain and I was able to complete this adventure in relative sunshine. The walkway certainly gave my ankles a work out. The rocks at the end were fun as I left from one to the next.
Once at ground zero the cache was a super quick find thanks to the hint I had committed to memory (I did this nix device to avoid any unfortunate briny incidents). The wind decided to pick up as I arrived at GZ and I had to contend with the gales as I headed back to the bus stop. Favoutite point for the urban adventure. Cheers for the cache placement!

The weather couldn’t make up its mind today, but I’m glad it wasn’t hosing down when I got here. Two items of clothing on opposite corners - of course I checked the wrong one first!
Interestingly enough, I walked to the lighthouse in January this year without any idea that there was a cache underfoot. Thanks for the placement.

483. On a cold winters evening we ventured out into the wild weather to find a geocache. After an adventurous walk on the jagged rocks we reached ground zero. The hint was very helpful and the cache was quickly found. TFTC
Went and had a look, cache definitely gone. I can't believe the flamin' fishermen who fish here, so much rubbish they leave behind. Replaced with a rubber hose.
Over here today sorting out some gear for tomorrow (going diving) so after that I parked the bike and walked over here. Perfect weather, beautiful views, just couldn't see the cache even after the CO told me where it was. (Thanks for the help though!)
I believe the breeding season of the seagulls goes to the end of January. So will enable this cache again, Please let me know if things should change.
Felt this was an appropriate cache to end the year of 2022. Love lighthouses so today was the day to tick this one off. Have been out many years ago so it was nice to have another reason to return.
Picked our way along the gabion wall. It was quite a solid wind being blown in from the east, plus a few rain showers. Avoided the birds who tried to deter us from reaching GZ but they soon stopped. The wet rocks were rather slippery but slowly we got there. Nice quick find. And so ends 2022 for caching. TFTC

On advice of fellow cachers, I'm temporarily disabling this cache due to nesting birds at the end of the gabion wall, gulls and terns are not happy humans are there, will do this for just a few weeks and I'll google when the nesting might finish and reinstate the hide.
Wow...what an amazing place for a cache Gorby!
Merlot and Net kindly invited me to join them on this adventure ; and I am so glad I didn't attempt it on my own!
The first part was really easy.....but I found the last part rather challenging!
The other two had no problem!
Although the giant rocks were stable...and I had very good trekking shoes....the rocks at the last bit weren't all flat: and you need to be confident about where to place your feet!
I sometimes found myself crouching on all fours so to speak!
Anyway I am pleased to say I finally made it to the end!

We were initially going to attempt this cache yesterday evening but a thunderstorm with heavy rain put paid to those plans so we decided on another go this evening. Supernannny, Net61 and I met up at the yacht club and made the walk along the gabion wall. The nesting terns and seagulls on the last 20m of the wall were not happy at us disturbing them, they had chicks in their nests and we were dived bombed from above. Once past them we rock hopped and made an easy find. What a cool spot for a cache! After taking lots of photos we headed back trying not to disturb the birds. I did get to see some baby seagulls in a nest when mum came off it to defend them, and we also saw a wee tern chick.
Jägersmum and I had just finished our dinner and were relaxing when this new cache popped up, signaling the end of relax time. We grabbed Jäger and jumped in the car and headed straight here. Managed to park a bit closer - near the building for free (or $20 per hour by the water- wow!) A quick stroll out to the cache and a rock hop at the end. The old me would have had that sorted in seconds but the new me with healing ankle took it slow and careful. Got to the light house and we made an instant find, and.... yes, [FTF] Yay! Nice container! Lovely view over the water to the city lights and the skytower lit up in xmas colours. TFTC!!!
Talk about perfection.. FMZ and I got the notification just after a nice dinner of dumplings from our favourite restaurant. For someone who doesn't do very well in the summer heat, that was just the perfect time of the day for me to find a cache. We grabbed my baby Jäger (who by now is probably accustomed to having instant little walks in weird times of the day) and raced to the car. After driving for about 17-20 mins, we were taken to this place with the most amazing view. I didn't mind walking on the gabions at all, but was a little worried about Chris and his ankle. I loved the cool breeze and looking at everything as as we walked, especially the mesmerising city lights. Jäger enjoyed causing the seagulls to fly away. Lol. The cache was soon found and to our delight, the revelation of an empty log. Two days in a row of getting a [FTF]! Yay. We hung around for a while to take photos and then leisurely made our way back to the car. What a lovely night it had been. Thanks Mike for letting us discover the place. Perfect time, place and cache. So deserving of a favourite point.
