I have memories of running through hordes of soldier crabs on the beach when I was a kid so these larger than life statues gave me the willies! Were they back for revenge??Thanks for find #5047TNLN
We stopped to admire the soldier crab sculpture, take a few photos, then jumped back in the car. Seems like a good place to place a cache, so before we headed off, I checked and yep, there was one here. It was quickly found and we continued on.---Over a week ago we made a trip up to Yeppoon to visit family and some of the big things dotted around the state. On the way we stopped off at Noosa Heads (big pelican) and Maryborough before staying in Hervey Bay (big whales) for a couple of days to break up the journey. Whilst in Hervey Bay we went out on a glass bottomed boat and explored Big Woody Island and Round Island. Onwards again and we visited Childers, Gin Gin and got stuck in a crazy tailback a few kilometers from Miriam Vale (big crab, big donut and big Magpie). It would have been rude not to pick up a cache or two on our journey North. We visited Great Keppel and did some snorkeling (and Jack spotted a large sting ray), Emu Park to view the Singing Ship, Rockhampton (big bulls) to visit the zoo (which I wasn't too keen on) and just about every restaurant and coffee shop in Yeppoon. It's a lovely part of the world. On the way back home (boo) we visited the caves at Cania Gorge and stayed overnight at the retreat and then on to the Three Moons Silo Mural, Gayndah (big orange) and then onto the Bruce and straight back home.Thanks!!#3507

I spotted these guys from the car as we were heading to Yeppoon (from Sydney) on our road trip. Immediately yelled out “Stop!! Do a U-ey!” I needed to go back and see what this was all about, and before we got there I thought “I just BET there’s a cache there”, and there was! I absolutely LOVED this tribute to our unsung heroes, the humble soldier crab. I hope your cache gets loads more favourite points in the future too, so that more of us can see this wonderful display. Cheers Rainforest cookie! Fave point from me.
On our bike ride from the marina - day off from sailing - on our gap year trip north. We had noticed these sculptures from the marina courtesy car yesterday on our quick shopping trip so made sure we stopped when passing today, as soldier crabs are certainly our favourite sand creature...
Great sculptures - it was only at the end, I noticed the rubbish they were collecting tying in with the cleaning the beach theme. Clever!
Found the cache fairly quickly once in the right spot - still nicely hidden.
