Actually found & signed on the 13th, but somehow forgot to log it online. Lovely spring day for a bike ride, so stopped & saw the cache again. In my prior haste to beat the rain, I hadn't read the description properly... Both days, we enjoyed spying fishermen & fish in the river. RIP Punga
Jar had been displeced onto rocks, ready to washed away at next flood. Now returned to the spot. Thanks for the cache. And treasures. Bring own pen.
We had a nice view over the river from here. Many thanks for showing us this place!
Fantastic day out with hubby and dad, we hit the track around 8am and came off around 5 hours later having a nice haul of finds with no dnfs, thanks for the placement we loved the walk/labs and trads. This was the first trad for the day
Lots of freewheeling downhill, gotta love that! There was a jogger just ahead I was leaving be, he headed off and i went here, all good and retrieved and replaced with care! Grabbed 2 x TBAfter coming back from the Poutu canal I had lunch and a brew and headed out on the bile again for another 10-15km ride.Onto phase 2 for the day, cycling the Tongariro river walkways. Ended up turning round and heading back from Red Hut pool and covering same ground. More great scenery and a comfortable terrain level.I have (another) long weekend away from home starting Friday, destination is Turangi. Our work has a team-building day on Friday with Whitewater rafting in teams followed by Tokaanu hot-pools and shared lunch. It was a double banger event with half the people doing Wednesday and the remainder on Friday. As chance would have it I'd already identified this weekend as a weekend away at Turangi and booked the work bach to stay in Friday and Saturday night. That was fortunate as I drove myself up on Friday morning and stayed the weekend. I brought a work push-bike along too with the hope to cover more ground, and so it was. I found almost all of my target caches and a decent haul was made. Waking up Sunday morning to overnight rain and fog across the Desert Road left me glad I'd done most finding on Friday and Saturday. Thanks to all COs for their efforts hiding, especially Funkymunkyzone. I even bumped into another caching couple on the trails on Saturday, nice to meet you cympull and fisha1288.
After doing the Tongariro Crossing yesterday we needed to stretch the legs, so took the bikes down the river to grab a couple of caches. Nice quick find here, thanks
The last day of an Easter visit to Turangi with rattll. Picking up some of our last caches along the river, we paused to pay our respects at this one. Log dry, signed, and returned as found. Left a TB. Tftc!
The last day of our Easter break in Turangi, so we thought we'd pick up a few more caches before heading home. It was a short and pleasant walk on a glorious autumn day with way less muggles about today (or at least in this direction). No problems making the find here. This is a lovely tribute to Punga, who I'm pleased to say I'd had the privilege of meeting a couple of times. Thanks for setting this up
Turangi was our chosen destination for Easter this year and despite the weather forecast the cycle trails and local event were on the to do list.ROS headed off this morning to pick up a few caches that we did not get yesterday.ROS had just retrieved the cache when some muggles withering dogs arrived to take a look at the river. Luckily they didnt stay long. Cache in good order. TTTC.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit & doing the things that we want to do we are staying at the NZMCA Park in Turangi decided we would get the bikes out of the back of the Ute & go for a ride around the Tongariro River Trail, a walking & Clycling trail that goes up one side of the river & back down the other side we had a couple of Adventure Labs to complete and, of course, do some caching while out and about this was an easy find, log signed & cache container easily replaced pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,863 for us!
Easy find just beyond some guys fishing thought out of sight of them. SL. Tnln. Tftc
Rescued from within 30cm of the water and replaced back wedged carefully in the roots. I have and continue to enjoy many of Punga and Paula's caches in this region.
My first caching trip after a few years off. The kids with me this time. Miss 11 got a head start after me 9 finding the last two. Tftc
Having a couple days holiday in Trangi. After cold icy showers yesterday we are back to beautiful sunshine today. We have brought the bikes and enjoying a ride along the river and around the town. Thanks to all the CO s for the caches TFTC
I noticed this Tribute Cache for your Dad when I was planning my foray to Turangi....so was keen to come and get it.I met him once during the Turangi Mega...Lovely idea.....Good words .....as you say it was far too soon ...
Out to Trangi for a couple days with the cousins. We decided to go out for a walk while all the boys were still sleeping. A very nice day here! And a great walk. I wasnt planning to cache here do I wasnt prepared so i didnt bring a pen. If we do this walk again I will log them. We were looking around for the cache and some suspected muggles asked if we were geocaching and sounds like they will go out to do sometime! I placed the cache carefully back as found. TFTC. Thanks funkymunkyzone for this Traditional cache! funkymunkyzone , !Logged on 7 January 2024 at 10:46AM#817th find

Running past today, this was our first find. Despite the weather we found a few caches and completed the loop.TNLNSL TFTC
Nice new container and fresh log book, thank you for maintaining this cache and sharing a great hike by the river
Checked and unfortunately someone has completely destroyed the hiding spot and the stump that was under the roots has been obliterated.Cache replaced less than half a metre away, on the "other side", nice and secure. Please make sure it is securely in its spot when you put it back. Thanks.
Surprised that we couldn't find it. The spot it should be at was bereft of a cache. Please check to see if the container is still there.
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)… We happened to cast a wary caching eye southward (Turangi) and our alarm bells started ringing. There seems to have been a mini explosion of new caches down yonder way, so the time is right for a visit.
This section of the river trail was busy. Passersby and fishermen seemed to appear when least expected. We didn’t anticipate coming face to face with an angler standing opposite of ground zone. He seemed to give us a momentary glance before becoming lost in the swirl of water and his next catch… A quick find once we felt comfortable enough to go for it. Thanks FMZ. TFTC.

this section of the trail was very busy with walkers, runners and dogs.
also spotted a few fishermen on the other side of river
one was straight opposite us from GZ when we arrived.
didn't take any notice of us so we were able to collect cache from its hide.

Thanks for the tribute to punga- found with quinella while we’re up from chch .cache in mint condition
Nice tribute to one of the valued characters of caching around the region in the early days. Thanks
Headed down to Taupo for a long weekend to attend the Possum Night Trail run on Saturday. Left Auckland early on Friday, getting stuck in the traffic on the way to Fielddays at Mystery Creek. Soon left the State Highway to travel down to Turangi.
On Friday I decided to complete the Tongariro River Trail. I completed the 14.75km circular route in 4 hours of caching. I parked on SH1 near the bridge into Turangi and headed up the steep route to start the walk.
I had caught up to some muggles at the top of the hill and I could hear them not too far behind me. I pulled off the trail at this cache and took some photos as I waited for them to pass by. I spied the cache and carefully extracted it from its hiding spot.

My second foray along the river trail this afternoon. My starting point this time as the end of Koura Street. The rain had eased a bit. I was pretty much soaked through but still enjoyed the walk. TFTC
River up a bit today. A few people kayaking down. Nice straight forward find. Tftc

Although we should be well on our way towards home at this stage, we keep getting sidetracked by caches along the way. Mr Geckoh was happy to toddle off and locate this one, which was a nice quick find and then back to the van and after the dogs had a chance to stretch their legs and have a drink, we were on our way again. Heading out for a walk this afternoon and seriously contemplating whether we should go giving the incoming weather. However out we went and by the time of GZ we were still dry. Great walk this afternoon keeping my days caching streak alive and onto day 16. Thanks for the cache.
I am so glad to have met and spent some time with him. He was such a good and kind man, will always remember him with fondness. TFTC.
Awesome FTF this morning + a TB prize. Just across the river from our holiday home couldn't pass up the opportunity to grab this. Thanks Funkymonkey. SL TFTC
