Came to see the giant totara, but found also a giant matai. And also a cache box somewhere there. Thanks for inviting!
We made a stop also here to admire the tree(s) and then we discovered, that there is also a cache here. So sneaked away from the group and logged it of course Thanks!
Amazing tree! The hint was rather useful as I initially searched around the wrong spot. TFTC!!
First stop for the day whilst out with Nosynel. An amazing tree. Thanks for keeping this one going, busy paws. #10385
This was the first find of the day. Thanks for hiding it Jude_E and I are on a mini geocaching trip around the the peninsula. . Believe it or not there are a few caches in the area that we have not found.
Found with Gummi_Venus. Great place. Such a cool tree. I swear Ive been here looking for a cache before. Is this a replacement?
We found the cache after a short search and were able to sign the guest book

Having introduced my French Hitchhiking companions to geocaching and the totara fencepost at Onewa View I looked forward to showing them what a real live totara tree looked like. We were welcomed to the tree by the calls of tui and bellbirds and the chirps and flittering of a number of piwakawaka. What a grand specimen this tree is. My companions took many photos before we adjourned to seek out and sign the cache. I love the sound that a metal tipped hiker's pole makes when it touches a hidden plastic box. TFTC BP.
Enjoyed the walk in the cool Forest to the Huge Trees. It didn't take long to spot it.Even Jessie helped us..TFTH
A late log, but 2nd to find out on Waitangi Day. Persuaded the boys some exercise was needed but due to the heat a walk through the Bush was agreed upon. We often pass this little walkway on the way to Okains Bay, but haven't stopped to do the walk so today was the day. Saw a few people at the grand old tree, but no one else seemed to be venturing any further. Cache was a quick find, then carried on up the track for the views down to Akaoroa as we ate lunch. Tftc
Sent P to find this one. He met a man who went up there for some peace and quiet. He was quite happy to have a chat and a lesson on Geocaching. TFTC
I am pleased that this one was reused after the geotour was archived. It is definitely a spot which needs a cache!
After finding the cache I decided to carry on up the track to the top. Cool and a bit damp up there but still good views! TFTC.

**FTF** 8am
MrsTG was up early to go for a walk with a friend (the friend had never seen a Royal Spoonbill, so off to Travis Wetlands they went - tick). Since I was awake I randomly glanced at the GC map and saw some 'new' caches in the 'area'. Oh well; I was awake - why not. Up and atoms and out before the day got too hot. The new 80km speed limit from CHCH to Akaroa is a bit hard going and dreary I must say....
A great idea to republish the PWGT caches as the locations are great bits of local history.
After reacquainting myself with the Kaitorete Spit cache it was just a short drive further on through Little River and up to Hilltop. Soon enough at the wee pull-off car park and making the short climb up the track to the rather magnificent tree(s). Thanks.
