We have visited this reserve several times over the years for a number of caches, but this would be the furthest in we have ever been. After the lengthy walk in, the cache was a quick easy find, although we had to ask a group of ladies who were sitting on it to move. TFTC

Visited with woolwood9 today.I have just got to the position to make this walk, although it took a quite a bit longer than I expected.Really is a very enjoyable track. We were in a bit of a time crunch as need to get to the event held today by the CO.SL *tm/ww NZ*Thanks for the good sized cache.

Love this spot.

Spending time in this neck of the woods today although, in my determination to get out whatever the weather, I probably spent longer in the rain than necessary as it quasi 'cleared up' a little in the early afternoon. By then, I was pretty sodden, so it hardly mattered! I was wombling along this lovely boardwalk after a missing hidden month cache and thought it would be rude not to look for all of them while I was here. The track was pretty water-logged but you gotta love chicken wire covered boardwalk as it offers great grip (and keeps the feet dry)! Cache is in good order, cleverly hidden, and I added some collector cards for the kiddies. It wasn't raining during my visit here (hallelujah!). It's a real shame that the Kiwi Guardian programme stopped - I enjoyed the walks (and collecting the badges) more than the kids - must be a Geocacher thing! When I saw a notice from DOC that the programme was finishing, I enquired and was informed that, as Toyota owned the posts, etc, they were going to remove them. Seems like a waste of resources all around - should have been owned by DOC who could then have found another sponsor. Photos attached from the two lookouts. TFTC TwigNZ

I will be visiting GZ tomorrow with a replacement cache, so disabling it for the moment

We found the shelf and a rather conspicuous stone, but sadly no cache container or logbook.

29-Nov-23
Shelf found but no cache

09-Nov-23
As mentioned in my log (and others previously) this one is missing an outer container. Doing ok on its shelf under a small rock for now (hopefully!) but will need something more Such a shame when people wreck things like this! Thanks for your clever creation!

Love this area! Nice to get out and stretch the legs on the way back home today. Many thanks for placement. As the last few logs have mentioned, only the bag and log are present. Found this on the ground today. Looked around for something with a bit of weight to sit on top of it on the metal plate until it can have done maintenance but only found a small rockNot sure how long that will last! Thanks heaps- pity its not as it was previously. Was keen to spot a P. traversi but nope- being endangered and all. Sorry to read that Australian Water Dragons have made it to here tho! What a great spot!

Nice walk back to this previous visit and no-one around, despite 2 cars in the car park. Soon at GZ and after taking some selfies I stooped to conker (lol). Only a log and baggie, have put a note for the CO's info. Great views again here, will have to bring mrs c sometime. It's been a few years since I've had a multi-day, event-centred Geo-experience - the Wellington MEGA would have been it, so a long time between drinks (as if). The last few iterations locally haven't fitted in with our family plans so have been shelved but mrs c's trip North this week is timely and enables me to head to Waitarere Beach for watcache's Geo-Jamboree (after all, it was centred on the Scout Hall!) A fun weekend of events, nearby unfound caches, and a trickled release of new ones too, acquaintances renewed and established and some (mostly) good weather. Much kudos to the CO,and his family, for their efforts over this last wee while, recognizing that this doesn't happen without dedication and preparation. After 3 days of caching, around 35 kms walked and 30-something finds I left around midday after some {FTF} chasing, and then got my last D/T combo for a third trip around the grid, with Etherlord and Ethermiss for company.Awesome weekend, thanks to all involved.

Only logbook and bag at GZ, nothing on me to help out either, sorry. Replaced on metal cradle

This is a lovely little Scenic reserve that I have visited many times, to pick up a cache. Once again a new one has popped up, so I headed back here with matagouri after the near by event. It was lovely and quiet at GZ, where the cache was found without issue. Thanks for putting this here

Caching around Levin following the Ready, Set, Go event. Having cleared Papaitonga Reserve some time ago, this cache stood out when published. Today, I resolved to fix that. Out with rattll, we followed the track to the second lookout, where the cache was quickly found. Signed, returned as found. Tftc!

Cool cache was big btw

Second of the afternoon. I had to change the batteries in the Garmin on the way -it retained the lock on the direction, but I overshot GZ by around 30m before it suddenly thought whoops! it's back that way. And of course, it's an unwritten rule that when you search four corners of a square object, it's always in the last one. Good views -the lake was shining in the afternoon sun, so it gets a fave from me. Thanks for bringing me here TwigNZ.

Smile Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are currently parked up at the NZMCA Park at thr Foxton Racecourse … um, in Foxton … decided we’d go for a bit of a drive around exploring the local area … thought we’d grab a near-by Kiwi Guardian, do some Ad Labs & grab some caches … this one easily found, right where we expected it to be, log-book completed & safely returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,331 for us!

Having planned to take part in Saturday morning's Parkrun at Otaki, I decided I would head north afterwards to do some caching rather than in the Waikanae/Paraparaumu/Raumati area as I normally would. When I checked my map, I saw there were more caches in and around Levin than I expected there to be. I used to visit very regularly and keep the number of unfound caches very low but a change circumstances means that is no longer the case.

Spotting this cache on the map came as a surprise as I thought there would be no more room in the Reserve for caches but then it dawned on to me what the likely history was. This location plays a special part in my geocaching story as it contained the first cache for which I had a decent walk in an area that hadn't previously visited and led me to think that "this is going to be a pastime that I will very much enjoy".

Light rain as falling when I arrived at the entrance and I was surprised to see a sign saying that the track was in poor condition. While I didn't cover all of it, my assessment was that it was between good and very good. I made my way to the cache in quick time where I found the cache about six inches below where I expected to find it. I am not sure how it could have ended up on the ground as the attraction seems powerful enough for it to remain where it is supposed to be. Thanks, TwigNZ, for providing a reason for me to again visit this beautiful area.

Found on a nice stroll with young grandson! A lovely piece of bush and a nice little day walk.

Lovely walk. Tftc. Trackable removed to be placed elsewhere

07-Apr-23

Easter weekend, and with the paradox that only family can create, I both need to be in Wanganui and not in Wanganui at the same time. However I have a full day to get there and so a-geocaching I will go. Despite a slow start caused by traffic congestion I still managed to sign 52 logs today, and was unable to find 6 logs to sign. This was one of the ones I found.

Turns out this was my second time signing a log here, as this was a reissue of a tour cache, although it was in the other corner last time. Always a nice quiet walk through this area.

Thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with CO's like this placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

In Levin for lunch with a friend. Another enjoyable walk in this reserve. Thanks TwigNZ for the cache.

24-Mar-23
We headed off to Levin on this beautiful autumn day to look for some mostly recent caches. There were five we hoped for and only one eluded us.
We always enjoy a walk in this lovely reserve and it was the perfect day for it today. It didn’t matter we’d been to such a cache before. We did encounter a couple of walkers but nowhere near GZ. All was very quiet while we were there so no muggle problems. Thanks for the detailed location information - very helpful to ensure successful retrieval and return to its spot.

Finding this cache was principally a numbers exercise for me as I had previously found its PWGT predecessor. However an always-enjoyable walk to get to it and as I was in the area anyway today it made sense to score it while I was here. Signed log, TFTC!

#2345. A nice sunny afternoon in the Horowhenua, and a good opportunity to showcase this lovely scenic reserve to my four wwoofers, who have been hard at work on my orchard. One, mlomb612 has joined the ranks of geocachers, and the other three, all German, were very interested.

Nice easy find at 3.45pm in a position previously occupied by a PWGT cache (GC90FT9) which I found two years ago.

Tftc TwigNZ.

So we're sitting there just after the results of twingnz cannonball run were announced. Twignz announced he is releasing 4 new caches 2 at 3 pm and 2 at 4 pm although he had given us the coordinates at 2 30 so I asked Mr-mcgoo and Taybe nz if I Can catch a ride with them. So after going to grab the 2 up the dams and 2 others in Shannon we went to grab the 2 in Levin.

Once we arrived at the parking lot we took a quick hike to the cache on the way we met a few others who did the same thing we did and grab the ones up the dam first. Found cache once arrived tftc

Joint {FTF} along with a huge hoard after the cannonball run event today. It's weird - I remember quite a bit about this bi of bush- for instance the corner where the Cacherpiller is hidden, but not most of the rout to that corner! Anyhoo, I love a good bush walk, and the cache is dry and large enough for treasure , so smileys all around!

#13,438. Joint {FTF} and first day find. At the conclusion of Twig's Cannonball Run 3 event, the cache owner announced that four geocaches were being published. We headed off afterwards to start searching for them. This was the second of the four. Good to return to the Papaitonga Scenic Reserve walks in Hokio Beach. Caught up with a few others along the way, including a muggle walking her dog. Waited briefly for the muggle to move away from GZ first. By then JustlookingOO and TrinityNZ had also arrived. Quick find by TrinityNZ. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside.Dropped off Honey Bee Inn ?? [FTF] with the Seagnoid and NZ_B after TwigNZs event. Out caching on a sunny afternoon with the Seagnoid and NZ_B. Following another amazing Cannonball run event today. It's a gorgeous day and we have caching all arvo - whoop whoop. TFTC.

Joint {FTF} and FDF at 3.08 pm with the other cachers who attended the Cannonball Run event.

This is the 3rd, or possibly the 4th time I have walked along this track to find caches. I’m not complaining as it is a beautiful walk through the bush - this time with lots of bird song.

I’m in Levin for the Cannonball Run event and have teamed up with Itchyfeet2020 and the Seagnoid to find caches to help me fulfil my goal of finding 50 in a month. After the rain of the last few days and overnight it is good to sea the sun again and feel it’s warmth.

Kia ora rawa atu for the cache TwigNZ.

Joint FTF. More to follow
I wrote in the log and placed the cache back as found, TFTCSL. Thanks TwigNZ for this Traditional. Thanks for helping us get one step closer to our next milestone.

With my so called car troubles. I thought it best to take over the driving. I quickly discovered the button/lever you press when changing gears was broken in two. Ummm. Can I get a new gear stick, or is it indelibly attached to the gear box? A quick look at my service bit of paper on my windscreen shows my car is due for it's checkup. OK. Anyway we got to the parking area no problem. Praise the Lord. And I have got home OK. Thanks for all you do to make caching fun and enjoyable.

It was quite the party heading in to find this cache! As well as barefootguru, GSEL and Infoferret from our car, we joined MrMagoo, TaybeeNZ and Fuzzball on the trail. Fuzzball made the find at GZ. Lovely walk to the cache which I hadn't been on before. TFTC TwigNZ!

After a fun Cannonball Run event, the CO released four new caches. JustLookingOO and I teamed up to look for two of them, this being the second.

It did take us a bit longer than it should have to get to the cache, as we took a bit of a detour at the crossroads. The walk was lovely though, and it was nice to be out of the sun.

When we got to GZ huhugrub was waiting for us, having taken the quicker way. The hint was a very good one, and I found the container immediately in its hiding spot. After signing it, hhg put it back in place, which was a bit trickier, but logical once we figured out the writing on the container.

Thanks for the cache Smile

Joint [FTF] with others attending the Cannonball Run today.

We came down here as one of the Cannonball Run and a short while later we're back with our team of DeltaT, SPate, haydn.seek & I. This is my third visit here... first time to find a MEGA Hungry Caterpillar, second time for a PWGT cache, and now.
Another joint {FTF} by the generosity of the CO. On the way out I finally found the new location of a certain hungry caterpillar.
I think this is the twelfth cache find today. TFTC

(# 7623) Joint {FTF} Up to Levin this weekend for the famous TwigNZ Cannonball Run v2023. This is one of four caches published by the CO for the day. We pooled vehicles and was teamed up with fuzzball56 and taybee nz using taybee nz's vehicle. We got this one after getting the caches Shannon way. A quick find after a nice bush walk. Thanks for bringing me here.

#12,686. Joint {FTF}. I attended the Cannonball Run event in Levin today and the CO released some new caches for us to find. We came here late in the afternoon for a powerwalk to GZ catching up with a another team of cachers. Been here a few times now and the geotour was the most recent visit. So we all had a fair idea of what was in stall for us. At GZ one of the other party had grabbed the cache before we had a chance to look. So just stayed in line to do the signing. Not my preferred style of caching but that is what happens at events. Thanks TwigNZ for hiding your cache here. Interesting write-up as well.

all part of our touring around the levin area to locate these new caches . I remember the one that was here years ago so it was goof to get this new cache and a {FTF} at the same time .
This is a lovely bush walk with two nice views of the lake which will post later . we took nothing and left nothing . thank you for this new hide . : )
