Fritzi1219 and I are enjoying the unique landscape, the great weather and the many new impressions! We managed to find all the caches!TFTC# 7545 / 15:31hGreetings from Team Lawinia11 from Germany, Lilienthal
The very last day of rattll and I on the road for this three week holiday (mainly) in the South Island. Tonight, back in Hamilton for work tomorrow. An early start in Marton to get things moving.Heading north, we stopped here for breakfast (muffins) and, more importantly, coffee! I've often looked at this viaduct as I've gone past, but never had the time to stop. A feat of engineering!A quick find at GZ. I've never seen a cache quite like this one, before. Signed, and returned as found. Tftc!
Sadly today is the last day of our holidays, and we need to be back in Hamilton tonight, and back to the grindstone tomorrow. What a perfect spot for a coffee and snack break..... and grab a cache break! No problems finding this one as we had the place to ourselves. Thanks for putting it here
Great spot to stop. Thanks for all the history on the viaduct. They have always fasinated me. They are our historical engineering feats. All be it with a lot of strengthening over the years to take heavier and heavier trains.
Armed with jandals and a chilly bin, a couple of Aussies headed across the ditch for a 3-week tiki tour, exploring the beauty of New Zealand.DAY 4: Rotorua to Whanganui via Taupo & Turangi. We stopped here to get away from the ultra slow motorbike and so glad we did because we got photos of the interesting sculpture as well as the viaduct bridge. Thanks for showing us this special place by placing this cache, capperz tn koe~~
#4 for today looking for caches with Motorhome parking and only needing 1 arm to retrieve. This one was perfect. TFTC
Am taking the long way home to Napier from wellington as cachers do sometimes when time allows. This was quick park grab Pic, sign cache. Thanks for the info too!
Quick find but had great difficulty writing on the log, never seen one like this before
Havent been out caching in a while so decided on a nice visit to Flat Hills cafe before going hunting for caches and autumn foliage.TFTC
Cool cache! Thank you we got to see a train on its way across the bridge too which was awesome.
#14,871. Interesting write-up. Park and grab off State Highway 1 in hingaiti. There was another vehicle at the viaduct rest stop, but fortunately it was far enough away. Apart from fast passing traffic, the GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Searched along the Armco guard-rail barrier to no avail. Returned to near where we started the search, and lo and behold, the cache was on the ground! There were two mag strips that was stuck together one on top of the other, probably making the stacked strips difficult to attach to the Armco and had fallen down. The cache was otherwise in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.Attached the two mag strips separately back to the Armco, and not stacked on top of each other. Hopefully they could then be attached to the host better.*Thanks for the geocache placement, and for bringing us to this site, and **.T h a n k s. .f o r. .t h e. .c a c h e.**.M a u r u u r u. .k o e. .n u i. .a t u. .h o k i. .t e. .k e t e r o k i.*
With Gap (of Fap and Gap) We decided to run away from home this weekend, and the Manawatu was the ideal place to go.We presumed where the cache would be, and spent some fruitless minutes searching in the dark. A reset put us in the right area, and Gap got a hand on the cache. Vehicles whipped by, all the while were metres away separated by a metal rail Thanks capperz. TFTC.
GPS was wandering a lot when we arrived near GZ.boy the traffic gets very close here as we located this hide.TFTC
Thanks for your amazing cache capperz. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches. Found with Fisha1288 Cheers, Cympull.
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Signapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. The day before yesterday we stayed in Portage at the Portland hotel and we had a wonderful time. Yesterday we took the water taxi back to Picton and from there the ferry to the North Island. Last night was spent in Wellington. This morning we took a cab to the car rentals and picked up our rental car. Now we are on our way to Tongariro National Park. Of course we have a stop now and then to stretch our legs, have some sightseeing of to go looking for a geocache. Here we can do all three at one time. The cache is quickly found after which we also have lunch here because it is a nice and quiet spot. Thank you very much for this cache.
During our two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia, we arrived yesterday by ferry from the South Island to the North Island in Wellington. Today we pick up our new rental car and travel to the Tongariro National Park.If we stop along the way, there turns out to be a cache. We went to take a look and the cache was quickly found.**capperz**, thanks for the cache.
It was time for our morning coffee as we head back to Hamilton from Cromwell, so a convenient stop to find the cache. Had our fingers crossed for a train but no luck.
9 February 2024 19:54 TFTC capperz for placing this cache, number 13353 for me. A much appreciated QEF on the correct side of the road for the drive up to Ohakune!
Cache # 5,138 - needed a stop on the way from Wellington to Ohakune, and pulled into this rest area. Beautiful scenery, and BONUS - a cache, too! All good here, quick to find. Did with KK, AH and VB. TFTC!
Did with The Wandering Dragons and gang on the road today. Thanks!Cache #1,102
Nice little trip away with woolwood9 - this was the first day.*Fairly late start for us but getting along nicely!* ????Another good cache soon found, then heading to the next one.SL tm/ww NZ ????*Thank you for giving us a reason to stop at this location.*Good hide here.
Found on our a trip away with tmann421, heading north for a few days.Nice quick find, all in order herePeople having lunch here but not taking any notice of usSigned log tm/ww NZTFTC??
Beautiful day today. Quick easy find, a few muggles in the rest area today. No one watching us though. So we went in to grab. All is well here. Although very difficult to write on a normal pen doesn't really work. Have a photo as proof if needed. Tftc
#13,843. I was driving north to Auckland today to join my family on holiday. They have flown up as they don't like road trips, especially ones where frequent stops for geocaches are involved. I do like that type of road trip so was enjoying the cruise north listening to music and stopping for any caches I felt like doing along the way. This was one of them. Last time I stopped here the cache seemed to be misplaced based on recent logs so it was good to see Twig found it and put it back where it should be. Nice easy find although had to play act a bit with muggles around until they were looking in other directions, Signed the log and replaced as found. Happy New Year capperz. This is certainly an interesting viaduct and twice I have been lucky enough to see a train pass over the bridge.
It's that crazy time of year where you blink and suddenly everything is happening! Blink! (Summer starts) Blink! (work finishes for the year) Blink! (you're driving across the country to spend xmas with a friend)...At least this year I'm breaking the driving up just a little Last night I spent the evening in Palmy, so that today I would be able to take a leisurely drive to Auckland, at a pace that would allow me to collect a few caches along the way that have been placed since I last did this drive.I've stopped in this location on a couple of previous occasions for caching, and hadn't realised there was a new cache here until today. It was typical that the rain decided to make a point of getting heavier as I pulled up, so I was hoping for a quick find...which didn't happen. Firstly my phone had me about 12m away from where I eventually found the cache, and secondly the cache was not found as described. Basically the magnetic strip has failed, as these ones tend to do. They are such a neat idea (I have used them myself) but they never last long in the field. So I have placed it back as near to described as possible as near to the posted co-ords as indicated on my map. I've added my name to the logsheet, although it looks like it doesn't really like the ink from ballpoint pens. Thanks for setting it up, and merry xmas to you and yours.
I am visiting the area once again , but this time with a friend who wanted company to check out her property in Rangatau and as she knows about geocaching she asked me if i wanted to go and along with her and check on her property and we could also visit a few more of the caches in the area i did not have . Well , of course we had to go past this lovely viaduct and i remember previous caches that have been here but this one was just so simply clever . we were at a barrier !! well of course you have a certain mind set for these caches and so i hunted and hunted with the mind set firmly lodged in my mind ! and then Eureka Yes that was actually a cache ! so it was a very pleasing find and well worth a fav point from me . I also enjoyed seeing the Pou erected here now . Well done L. all was well here with cache and i Took nothing and left nothing !
Thanks capperz for the tip to collect this one while driving north, it is certainly easier. Struggled a bit with where my compass was pointing but the info in the description and the hint directed us to the right spot. A train went by on the viaduct while we were stopped so everything aligned!
A nice find on our break from driving. We walked back as far as we could, and enjoyed the thorough write up.
Im back in New Zealand for the first time in four and a half years. Im here for just over three weeks visiting the family. Nice to see a number of new caches about, in places that I have found caches before. Road trip today to head down the island to visit more family. I dont have any time constraints so can stop for a cache or two on the way. Another quick find here. Tftc
**18,951**Had to perform an interesting u-turn with traffic building to a holiday weekend frenzy to collect this sly little hide. Mr Geckoh had no trouble deciphering the hint to locate the cache, then it was back into traffic and on our way again before we got swept away by the landslide near GZ. TFTC
Found on our way home thankfully not in the rain cache all in good order. Thanks for the placement.
I don't know if I was misunderstanding the hint etc, but I could get my head and my torch in positions where I could visually inspect all of the guardrail, and I couldn't see any cache anywhere. It might be there somewhere, but I don't think it is.
Turning this one back on again. Take your choice here, you're on the car-park side of the barrier. Will review when I pass by next
It's day eighteen of this months Wheel of Challenges challenge, the streak, and today I needed to find a cache. So I found this one.
Making my way north tonight so I had this cache marked to find along the way. It looks like it got disabled earlier in the day and I hadn't noticed. I had no trouble finding this one in the dark, wirh only the occasional car zooming by on the other side of the barrier. I did have trouble writing on the log but a change of pen helped.
---
Thanks to capperz for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with CO's like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.
[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

Going to disable this one and move when I get a chance. It’s too close to the traffic, even no with a barrier between.
Road trip for Team BOP over the long weekend.
After a couple of full-on days of caching, it was time to head home.
We selected a few caches in the area to pick up as we headed north and I needed a break from driving.
We waited for a couple to leave the carpark before we tackled this one. I really dislike barrier caches being so close to the traffic and as a surveyor who often works on the roads, I know just how dangerous and unpredictable it can be that close to the road. It takes a lot of training and H&S to qualify to get that close to death working near the live lanes.
My thoughts were justified too, because while we were placing the cache back in the barrier, a car came down the hill dangerously overtaking a line of traffic on the outside of the bend at great speed and was literally within a meter of our heads at GZ. You'd think the location would be safe, but its a terrible, dangerous place for a cache especially on SH1.
Of course, I'm still logging it as a find!

After a great weekend time to head home. Great to get some more smiles. Yay. 2 nd to find. Co ords a bit out. A bit scary with cars rushing past.
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

Looked for about 20 minutes and could not find any “mag.” If this is on the barrier, I do not believe it is there anymore.
Reposting log, as it’s not showing in my Found logs.
Woohoo! {FTF} @ 11:15 Of course I didn't read the full description before attempting, but found pretty quick despite that handicap. Tricky. TFTC and the opportunity for another FTF
