Found this cache whilst on our two month adventure throughout central Australia and remote parts of WA.Stayed here as an overnighter on the CSR. The sunset was amazing, the dingos provided the chorus while we sat around the fire. Easy find this morning once at the top. Thanks to all the COs for adding to our adventure. TFTC
A quick find after climbing the hill and enjoying the view! Day 10 of our Canning Stock Route trip, what an epic trip!
Brad and Janet are on an epic 6 week trip aiming to travel along the Canning Stock Route, the longest stock route in the world. 51 wells and crossing 4 deserts. We are traveling with a group of 11 vehicles on a tour led by Ron and Trent Moon. We have the geomobile towing the mini-geohouse on wheels. We have a couple of caches to put out if we find a good spot. We will grab what we can as we pass. We are camped for the night here so before the sun set it was time to search for this one. Approached from the South, then circled left past West before finding a way up to the last level from the North. After finding the cache and signing the logbook and taking some pix a quick review identified East was the best approach / depart direction! Great to find a 22 y.o. Cache! TFTC
Looked where my gps pointed but couldn't find it. Looked again 5 metres from cairn and found it no problems. Cache in brown wafer tin in excellent condition. Thanks for the cache.
Kudos to MerilynTas for the effort to restore this cache. Thanks team. Awesome. Love your work. DJ
7 people searched for over 2hours with no luck so we have replaced it with a light brown biscuit tin. It's approx 5m away from the cairn in a safe place out of the wind!
Found the area where the cache was meant to be but couldn’t find it so we have replaced it with a new cache and signed the book. Should be all good to go now.
We are heading to this area in May 2023. As we are part of a group and will need to fit in with plans that have been made more fluid by Cyclone Ilsa, we may or may not be able to get to GZ for this one. If we can we will endeavour to report on the cache and/or provide maintenance as required
I concur with DJs comment. Indeed see our comments from 2014 below, these caches are one one of the remotes tracks in the world, not just remote for Australia. When the track opens there will be options to service the wells and other features including geocaches (if required). BTW, since the maintenance log, the container was replaced.
clear skies from TeamAstro.

I note the reviewers note on this cache. This is a legacy cache on The Cannjng Stock Route from when caching was in its infancy & rules on placement were less strict.
As the FTF on this cache I’d be extremely distressed to see this amazing cache archived when judged on rules that did not apply when it was placed.
If it is archived it will never be replaced based on current rules.
Further the track has been closed for 2 1/2 years due to COVID closures affecting access to Aboriginal communities & Aboriginal controlled land.
There are few enough remote caches in Australia without removing more. The game wasn’t always about mint tins, fake chewing gum & magnets under every urban street object.
This will no doubt be maintained in the next 12 months as the track reopens and someone ticks off a ‘bucket list’ cache.
Any reviewer who archives it before that can happen should resign.

On 13th September 2013 we arrived at Thring Rock between Well 29 and Well 30 on the Canning Stock Route (CSR). It's a very prominent rocky outcrop in the largely flat Great Sandy Desert (Be aware Google Maps has no idea where it is, and they show it 2.2km from it's actual location - try an OSM map or even an Australian NatMap instead!
I have to explain that I was NOT looking for it. It just stood out between some rocks on the ridge-line of the most prominent part of Thring Rock! Only now, over 8 years later, am I recording the fact.

Found the yellow Tupperware container today, 22 September. Cannot upload log until Halls Creek. Underway doing the CSR South to North. The CSR is a great adventure. I am writing this in camp at well 30. TFTC.
I found what seems to be the remains of a cache scattered around the place. I replaced the container with a yellow Tupperware container. I had a small notebook that I put in the container and all the items found as well. See attached photo I placed the container close to the cairn under a small ledge and covered it with a two small rocks. After thought is it might be a mistake as there is no loose rocks close to the cairn, as everybody going up there places a rock on the cairn, so the cache will be exposed again I think. Next member who visit the cache might place the cache some ware safer from muggles.
If you are planning a journey here, I concur with djcache that this is a most significant place and should be looked after as part of caching history, plus it is one of the most amazing geocaches I have ever done. Please contact either of us for details, or see www.johnhisco.com/canning for more details. Also see both our logs for pictures on this webpage. Clear skies, Astro.
As the FTF holder for this cache, one of the most special finds in my list, I'd be horrified to think that this cache could be lost to caching forever. It is one of the most challenging 4wd caches in the world.
The owners haven't logged on to GC.com for 4 years. It is up to the 4wd caching community to protect caches such as this.
I put it to the next person intending to seek this cache that they pack an ammo can, a new log book and a GC info sheet in their truck and replace this cache where the debris from the old one is, or as close as you can get to the coords.
My cache at Durba Springs was unfortunately removed by native titleholders, so we need to protect what few caches are in locations such as this as we'll never get them replaced under the new rules.
Please state in a note on here if you are planning this and when, and are prepared to replace this cache.
Thanks,
DJ

We suppose the Cache is destroyed. We only found typical parts from the content and a broken plastic-top.

Thanks to the other 4 wd traveller who told me about this one. I was desperate and no computer. I had travel bug 5DEFP8 to be delivered to Wolfe Creek Crater and all I found was a Death Adder Snake after hours of looking down in the crater ...as instructed by a a smarty!! Thank you !! again for your help. So travel bug got delivered to Thring Rock and not Wolf Creek Crater. I collected car 77 and left a Picnic Bar for the next hungry traveller. Gumtrees.
Doing the CSR south-north with JonDell & Subtlevox. The few caches along the route were on the"must do" list. Camped near here the previous night & walked up the hill. Whilst a few of us spent some fruitless time searching around GZ, one of our party used their geosenses & sneaked a quick "FTF" for the group.
Found after quite a search with the help of Ranger-Aus. It was a good 20m from GZ but in the most obvious place for a cache. Container is holding up but there is no pen and my knees weren't willing todo the climb twice so I haven't signed the log. Stunning views, thanks for encouraging me to make the climb which I otherwise probably would not have done.
Great views! Found easily at the obvious place. Saved a container for ages to upgrade this one. Sorry that we didn't have a more robust container with us to use, but hopefully the rock cover will deter the critters for a while. If next finder has a rodent proof container to replace again, would be handy. Thanks MAD106 for this cache. RoamingParsons from Bargara, near Bundaberg.
Container is now in poor condition. Maybe a fellow traveller could replace?
Found the coordinates to be slightly out.
4 GPS units agree coordinates should be S22-34.399 E123-55.103

Just passed near in my Virtual flight. Wanna track the route, so thanks for let me Virtualy log a note.
And thanks for hidding.
And thanks for hidding.
Found this cache but needs a new container. also not sure if my gps was playing up but it was about 10m away from the gsp location.
In the interest of preserving outback caches, could the next finder please replace the container with something that's reasonably durable - or if plastic, make sure it's covered entirely - there's no shortage of material to cover it with though it doesn't make it easy for the hider.
Logging maintenance required flags will not help this cache survive. As one of Australia's most remote caches it would be good to see it preserved for future cachers attempting this trip.

Found it but not on GZ. Appears an animal has taken a liking to the tasty container. Found remnants of the lid at GZ and the remainder if the container in a prominent spot. Beautiful scenery. Sorry, didn't have an appropriate non-edible container to replace it with. TFTH
found with a friend, I took nothing. Box was a bit runined, needs replacing, also not at exact location, was found by looking near coordinate.
We were heading south along he CSR and found the cache after a short search.

At about 1400hrs on Monday the 23rd of April 2012, we looked for and couldn't find it. We thought that the risk of injury out there was too great, so we gave up.
found after a long look with bad shoes!! only to realise i forgot my pen and there wasnt one in there!!! so didnt even sign log!! different container tho!!
Found in the early morning after camping here overnight. Many dingoes howling O/N but none put in an appearance. An impressive rock with all the fossils around . TFTC
Completed while doing a 5 week round trip from Albany to Alice Springs then to the Canning Stock Route.
This was to be our 200th cache and a fitting one to celebrate with. Sitting up there, soaking in those wilderness views was awesome. Highly recommended

Seem to be following Roland around. Great views & just a slight deversion but worth the effort.
Left a friend for Koala
Sadly have to finish my run up the Canning at Well 33 (vehicle problems) But will return to complete.

We had a great drive out to see the rock which is visible from a huge distance. We looked at the hill and thought that it looked big but when we started the walk it was easy. We picked our way up the hill to the cache and spent half an hour taking photos and looking at the view into the distance with the binoculars. Magic place and a must do cache. Thanks for the reason to do the climb.
Found after a short search. Great spot for a cache and great views. This was my first cache and found it during our North South trip down the track.
Found on our Nth - Sth trip down the Canning Stock Route. Unfortunately we went up the hill without a pen so had to make a return climb to fill in the log. Thanks for a great cache. TNLN. Greg and Bev
What a great view after a short climb. Not many muggles about here. Found by members on a Toyota Landcruiser Club (vic) on a trip from North to South. All five vehicles going well and all people participated in the find.
This cache was just the Thring to find out here. We camped near here the previous night. If you are around here at camp time, you would do well to aim for the camp spot just south of Well 29 (see pic).
We left a picture frame and star and ate the muesli bar (before something else did!).
Clear skies, TeamAstro.
PS see Geocache GCG3HK for a little note on a cairn TeamAstro built at the 21st parallel on the CSR. You can add to it. GZ details there.
Hard to find: a good hunt in a beautiful spot. Just past half way on the route, and it's been an enjoyable journey.
Well I'm back in civilization and logging a list of caches attempted and found over the past month. As promised a more detailed log on this one.
My attempt on this cache started in Shepparton, Vic. on May 4th and ended back here some 10,725km later on June 4th.
I travelled as part of a group of 2 4wd's and 3 trail bikes. As a paramedic I was medical support and needed nothing more than a band aid for the whole trip! We packed the GPS, PDA (cache notes), HF radio and Satphone and a swag of other gear (& swags too).
Pete and I travelled to Alice Springs and were joined there by Hilly & Stewy, towing the three bikes on a refurbished trailer. On their arrival we traded the trailer for another cabin for the night at the Wintersun and $27 change. The other three flew in on Sunday and we packed up and hit the road, bush camping on the Tanami at Yuendamu (?) and did another 700km Monday to arrive in Halls Creek.
We left Halls Creek on Tuesday for Wolfe Creek Crater, and returned (just Pete and I) on Wednesday unexpectedly on a successful mission to buy a new 40ltr Engel ($1400)to replace the one that died one day out.
The rest of the trip was absolutely spectacular and fairly uneventful - save for the fact that we were force to ration cans to 4 per man per day perhaps for the last 4 days due to a miscalculation of gross proportions.
We camped on the Canning for 15 days and saw noone else at all for the first 7. Remoteness at it's best. A particular highlight was camping on Guda Soak north of Well 51 which was full of water and possibly the nicest camp I've had in many years. Waterbirds abound, and sunset spectacular.
The cache was located after a 10 min search and found to be in good nick. The log was a sheet of paper and figuring it's never going to be busy I wrote a short essay. TNLN. Someone may have to add a log book at some point. I had gone armed with an ammo box in case the years in the desert had taken their toll on the container but it was fine. So long as it is consistently replaced out of sight and UV light it should remain so. No muggles have logged it so this was a true FTF and one of my best ever caching moments. It may remain so for many years to come.
The rest of the trip south was as enjoyable as the first half if not more so with rest days at Durba and Pierre springs. Fuel was picked up at $2.25 a litre at Well 33 and 23 dump. The total fuel bill for the round trip Vic to vic was $4500. I can recommend this trip highly, but it is not to be undertaken lightly. A cache or two placed will appear over the next few days - a traditional and several virtuals. This really is virtual country and if GC.com won't approve the actual I will list it on the Australian sight so for those planning travel I will place a note here soon.
To all who intend to attempt this, best of luck. Replace it well and it won't get muggled by the many swiss and german tourists who attempt this trip generally on their own.... at their peril.
The tyre toll was 2 punctures on the 4wds and 2 more on one bike. No dramas really. A holed radiator on one bike was also easily repaired.
On completion of the trip at Wiluna we travelled/rode to Perth and bought another trailer ($1200) to tow the bikes back to Vic and put the riders on the plane home. By the time we got to Perth the three bikes and riders had done about 4000km mostly on the dirt and in the sand.
Thanks to the Northside mob. I thoroughly enjoyed this FTF.

Well after 3 years I expected to be the FTF and was greatly miffed to find that we had been beaten by a couple of weeks.
A great track thru the desert and as previously told not to be undertaken lightly. We had 1 staked tyre,4 bent rims, 2 shockies on different vehicles, 1 clutch cable, 1 rear suspension bush, 1 electric radiator fan, 1 torn rear drive shaft boot, 1 engine management computer crankshaft sensor fail, but having a well stocked spares box all was replaced or repaired. We were going to Helena Spring cache but no-one had been out there this season and the track was too overgrown for our 4 Subarus. I see that some other caches have now been placed out there but too late for us. Thanks for the cache, Jim, with the Subaru Club of WA,

Well done. TeamAstro will hopefully locate this on mid-July. Any helful hints would be appreciated [^].
clear skies, Astro.
Whoa! It has been there since 2002! Congratulations on the first to find. What a find! Regards. Andrew.
A cache I am very pleased to be able to claim FTF on. At a cost of several thousand dollars a successful attempt on a cache that may have deteriorated or disappeared over the ensuing years.
I am pleased to say it is there, in good condition (I even took an ammo box to replace it if it wasn't but it was not needed.)
I will edit this later when I get back to civilisation and a broadband connection to detail some of the trip and add some photos, but until then just a quick post to claim FTF.
Thanks Northside 4wd Club
