Found it while traveling New Zealand. Found it thanks to hints and comments. Greetings from Holland. TFTC!
What a great little find! Took us a while as we are new to the geocaching world. What a cool spot!
Cache 1635 I travelled all this way out here for this 2002 cache and Im pleased I did what a gem of a bay I think I instantly fell in love with the area its somewhere Id consider living and that says a lot being as I love Southland, thanks so much for keeping this old cache going and bringing me here T4TC
Great to find this old cache, thanks to the previous logs and coordinates. We used to come here for a family picnic every new year
1MinnieMoo and I were in the area exploring the Banks Peninsula and decided to grab this old beast.
I had never been out here before and found it quite interesting. Some nearby playing children nearly made it a DNF - but they were freaked out by our presence and we were left in peace
We searched all the wrong areas until my phone decided to actually work and pointed to the correct place. We signed the log and returned as found. A great little spot for a cache. TFTC Tazzie&Lizze

Today marks day 2 of the NZ adventures for me and Fangsoki. We took a day trip to Akaroa and swung over to this cache before making our way back to the peninsula.
An interesting area, Fangsoki pointed out the emergency warning siren on the way in. And what a great flying fox - one that size likely wouldn’t be allowed in Australia anymore. There were a couple of kids certainly making the most of it when we arrived.
We headed over to begin our search. It took some reading of previous logs and some more looking before we found what we were after. Then it was time for a quick ride on the flying fox, now the kids have gone.
Thanks for the cache Tazzie&Lizzie.

It was nice to find this old cache. Definitely read the previous logs for hints on location and more accurate coordinates. TFTC
After looking in the leaf litter all around with no find we read a few finds before us, ok rethink this! Then bingo we found it. Your now looking for a bison not under leaves or a broadleaf. But in the same area. Definitely a native.
Had to read all the info to make sense of where to go but once I had it was a nice easy find
We had camped for the night at Okains Bay after a days 4x4 so we could spend today exploring for geocaches. What a great secret place here, of course we rewarded ourselves each with a ride on the flying fox. Had looked for quite a while then managed to read previous logs on my saved list as no reception. We expanded the search and found the replacement thanks Infoferret. Thanks for bringing us here, flying fox and cache Tazzie&Lizzie.
Found on 15/01/2021.
Up in Christchurch doing the Southern O week Orienteering competition. Tootling around some cches whilst I'm here.
Found the cache location with Infoferret who placed a replacement cache. I hope this is OK to continue the cache location.

15 January 2021 11:17. Number 9041. I came out here as the rest of the family were here for the Orienteering event today. Checked the cache page with disbelief, as I couldn't believe we were parked almost on top of it!
Then the fun started, I searched all around the likely location unsucessfully. Another competitor also searched (good to finally meet you Kev), and agreed it had been muggled.
No reception, so couldn't attempt to contact the CO at that time. Could we keep this one going? Only thing I had on me was a 'fat bison', camoflaged with duct tape. A spare orienteering map was used to provide waterproof paper for the log. This was hooked onto a low branch of something growing beside the tree. It's only just above ground level - see spoiler photo.
Thank you for placing the original so long ago. Its a truly beautiful spot.

Came for a picnic at Le Bons Bay as we had never been here before. Whay a gorgeous setting! Lovely big domain surrounded in established trees & bird life. Sadly we did not find this cache
Out exploring Banks Peninsula with TharntheHalken (plus muggle). Hunted around every tree in a reasonable diameter as per the hint, but no luck today
Had so much fun found a tree hut hidden on the left near the entrance. Such a fun flying fox and swing. So special to find a geocache token Mondsteinchen
Trouvée après quelques recherches ! Effectivement elle n’est pas au PZ ! Mais on l’a trouvée avec un peu de chance !
10 years later, we visited LeBons Bay this morning after again. Yes,we liked this place! Thanks for this old cache!
We could find the cache quite quickly, but only due the quite good hint. The coordinates are way off. The cache itself was found 140m off at S 43° 44.638 E 173° 05.679 (Garmin Dakota 20)

We're about 140m off coords when we heard "got it". It's under sticks, not leaves. Nice park for everyone to enjoy. TFTC
Took a drive on a beautiful winter's day to Le Bons Bay. We have never been here before.
The teens played on the flying fox while I looked for the cache. It was a quick find using the hint.
Nice to knock off another oldie. TFTC.

Today is our fourth day traveling the south island and the 23rd day of our travels south. We stayed the night at a camp on the other side of the port. After eating breakfast we drove over to the virtual at Timeball tower before we started our drive to Akaroa. We stopped at the gemstone and shell museum and had a look around the nearby beach as well before heading to Akaroa. After having a nice fish & chips lunch we drove to Okains Bay. Once there we stopped at the Sea cave on our way back to the car from the beach. Afterwards we drove to LeBons bay to visit the beach. After walking along the empty beach for a while I made my way over to this cache and a few runs on the flying fox afterwards. Tftc.
I was in Akaroa for a mum's weekend away. Having gone our separate ways after lunch together I decided that as I had my own transport it was only logical to take a detour and find a few caches on the way home. The husband wouldn't expect anything less than that from me.
While I had charged my phone overnight I hadn't charged my GPSr so was restricted on how many I could find.
I hadn't actually planned which caches I was going to find so I was surprised when I opened this to find out how old it was. I really enjoyed reading some of the earliest logs from cachers I have met over the years. Although I spent many summers at Okains Bay I don't remember ever visiting LeBons Bay before.
I look forward to bringing the boys here and getting them to ride the flying fox to the cache.
Thanks for the cache and keeping it going for so many years.

Out for a nice Waitangi Day forway with tandem4. And it was his birthday to boot! We camped at Lavericks Bay the night before with our GeoMisseses, then stopped here on the way home.
As others have noted, the cache is quite a ways from the posted coords. Met a camper when we were searching over there, but then soon re-read the cache description with moved us on to the play structure. Quick find after that. Then we both had a go at the flying fox. Fun!! Nice to find this oldie but goodie!

FlyingPigSquadron has landed! with iluvtrekking as we come towards the end of a wonderful 3 week trip in South Island New Zealand. FTC&H Tazzie&Lizzie - the coordinates seem to be some way off but the hint is clear
We have been weaving and winding down and across mountains for many days now and we are counting down to "F" day, Flying day that is. What a wonderful country NZ is, we had a blast. A big, big thank you must go to all the brave people who maintain & repair these roads and to all the CO's who encouraged us to stop along the way.
Thanks for your cache Tazzie&Lizzie.

Another oldie that's been on my list for quite some time!
We were a bit confused at first when starting our search around the trees, as somehow it didn't add up with the Flying Fox mentioned in the hint. We spotted the FF and common caching sense told me that we need to go to the actual far end of the FF and start searching again from there.
Voila! Essentially a multi/mystery but this is a grandfather cache from another era so it's an exception.
Cache in good condition, and as always with these, nice to take a minute and browse the logbook reading some old logs.
P.S. **I really recommend the Flying Fox! I think it's the best one I've been on!** A bit scary to look first as it starts from quite high up but is totally safe and awesome!

Mrs Rincewind is away in Napier for a few days and I had to get Rincewind Jr back to Wainui by 9am. With the rest of the day free what was I to do? Go caching of course! This was one of 37 finds for the day (& a couple of DNFs )
An old cache in surprisingly good condition. No idea how it doesn't get found by kids, so they not play in areas like this these days? I suppose they're too busy on the flying fox.

This is one of the oldest caches I've been to. In great nick. This was one of many caches found by me, Busy paws and Nosynel on a day trip to O'Kains and Le Bons bays. Thanks, CO.
It's a beautiful autumn day in the school holidays. Luckily I had been invited to cache with Jude_E and Busy paws. We are driving around the peninsula. A nice old cache that is really a multi.

Today we had a great trip across the peninsula of Akaroa. Start/finish was Diamond Harbour, great mountain tracks, stopping again and again because of caches, photo motives, picnics or simply so. Beer in the Harbar, Akaroa Harbour, Feijoas in 4 Square, Blue Mailbox. Super bathing beach in Le Bons Bay, fantastic sunset.
In addition, our southernmost cache and the most distant cache on this tour are targeted.
Best flying fox, we ever had. Thanks for showing.

Although we had no problem finding the cache after reading the description, it is clearly a multi cache in today's terms, but we assume such things didn't exist in 2002. There were several families in the domain today, but fortunately none were using the flying fox. TFTC
Knew where this would be from the hint and set off with Mr. 7 Then the gps sent me off track and circling another tree. Quick read of the logs and yes the hint was the one to follow. Back on yrack and a quick find and re hide with gps out by almost 150m. Tft decent sized cache.
We decided to head over to the Peninsula with daughter for a bit of caching for the day. It was really windy!! In some spots, it felt like we are going to be blown away. Luckily, we were only blown away by the fun we were having!! Great day, and a big thank you to all the CO for placing and maintaining the caches along our route!!!

I hadn't had a propper big geocaching day since probably before the baby was born - somehow Bethany doesn't seem to enjoy geocaching as much as I do! It's always slower with nowhere near as many finds!! So a plan was hatched to get my fix - mum and I would go out caching, and baby would have some daddy bonding time!! Haha! However even though this plan was hatched at the beginning of the year, it's taken us till April to execute as mum is always busy!
So finally today was the day. A bit of a late start, and we had to be home before dinner, but still managed to get 46 caches! A few DNF, but heaps of kms travelled! Nice to make some steps towards clearing a little more of my closest 80km to home PQ out!
Nice to find this piece of history - almost didn't by not reading the description! Then it stilll took a second better look!

Quick find, even without GPS, thanks to the good description by the owner. Dropped off 2 geocoins: "Save the Dolphins" and "The Mighty Shark". Hopefully, they will be able to travel a bit as our last geocoins simply disappeared. The log book is nearly full now. Time for a new one. Thank you for the cache says the A-Team!
With Toby on board but not talking to Zara yet - we head to Banks Peninsula to explore. Its Sunday, so lets go exploring, we park Zara up and we are off in Toby, with the Seagnoid as navigator/ stop-go man.
Ok we are in the playground. Lots of muggles and we are in some trees between two families hunting around. The Seagnoid reads the clue - Flying Fox - but thats way over there. OK Ill go for a snoop around and manage to snagg it with muggles having fun on the awesome flying fox. Now where has the Seagnoid got to? Cheers

Going to Ashburton with TaybeeDragon to pick up a car and spent the long weekend exploring, one box at a time. And now that we have collected Toby let's try him out on the back roads around Akaroa.
The coordinates for the cache are a long way out, maybe 80m after a while I cottoned on - this is an old cache, before additional waypoints were possible. So do you place the cache marker at the cache or at the carpark and describe how to get to the cache? Neither, in this cacse. The cache marker was pretty much placed in the middle of a French picnic (do the French come to Akaroa for holidays?). But TaybeeDragon had her head switched on and wandered off, coming back a little later saying she had found it.

Came out to Le Bons Bay with the boys for a picnic lunch and a swim. Parked up under some trees and had some lunch then pottered over to the Flying Fox for a play & to find this cache. Nice one. Cheers. Time for a swim!
Following the directions was the way to approach this cache. I was a little concerned about all the autumn leaves making it harder but it turned out not to be so. I had been told to try out the flying fox. Health and safety has gone overboard here as there is no way for someone to use it without someone else holding it in place while the rider climbs up to the take off platform. The rope is too short to tie it in place to allow the rider to whip around and up the steps. What a pity. It seems to be ok for me to drive my car away on my own which is much more dangerous.
We were in a desperate need of a family mad mission. With all that has been going on in our household we haven't been out for a mad mission this year! So the plan was hatched to head out this morning to grab a few caches and have a 'wild sausage' breakfast. We were all up before 7am and had a pre brekkie brekkie. We were low on butane for the wee cooker so we headed out to the Red Shed for a refill or two. We were on the road at 7.35am heading Akaroa way. We were just over Hilltop when the cachelets called out 'we're straving' so we decided to head to Onawae for a cook up instead of Le Bons Bay. The weather wasn't the best it was a bit drizzly but we made do. We cooked up the sausies and had a great breakfast and play around the water and cliffs. We packed up and headed over to Le Bons Bay once we got to the top it was really cloudy, visibility was maybe 20-30m! We crawled our way down Le Bons Bay Road to score a few caches. We had a great time and ended up driving 200km and got home at 1.30pm. Good times.
We needed to use the facilities and then had a quick look at the posted coords and I sent the two eldest to play on the flying fox. I had a look around the posted coords and then scratched my head. Oh, I think this is an old legacy trad... oh yes placed ages ago. I followed the hint and that made more sense. Cache was soon to hand. Jeepers this one is still kicking after 13+ years. The cachelets had a blast on the flying fox we took of as the rains settled.
Thanks for the cache Tazzie&Lizzie.

Couldn't resist the flying fox ! Lucky kids who holiday or live here. No problem with the cache either.
Drum roll - this as it, the cache that I've been planning to claim for such a long time - just haven't made it out to cache on the Peninsula much, which seems crazy, being so close to home.....
Anyway, I set out with peter 007 this morning with this cache as one of my main objectives.
There were some people enjoying the "playground structure" when we arrived, so we were discrete in out approach to the cache. I had no idea what a Mahoe looked like (see previous logs) but peter 007 was cleverer than I and found the cache fairly quickly.
When we were heading back the flying fox had been vacated - what fun - a real rush to the head!!
Thanks, Tazzie&Lizzie, if you are reading this.

Thursday after the Mega we were exploring Akaroa and environs, in the rain. We ventured down to Le Bons Bay to look for this venerable 2002 cache, and the GPS led Mrs D straight to a tree which fitted the hint. But after a poke around... time to read the description eh?
Eventually worked out that this cache is NOT a trad! It's actually "follow the clues" blue question mark "mystery" type of cache.
The clues led us to this tree, that tree, and finally widened the search to another tree - not a broadleaf, a mahoe. And there it was, hooray!
Fun to read the logs from way back. But, it's likely that some of the people logging online have logged in error, and ceratainly one person who found it hasn't logged online. The last three logs in the book as at 29 October 2015 were:
16 January 2015 - Aliphant
5 August (I think, but uncertain of month) 2015 - guigus60 and KiKatt (as best I could read the writing)
3 October 2015 FastFrames
The actual GZ? I did take the coords for future reference, but, it was fun following the clues. The cache description WILL lead you to the general vicinity of the cache, and then just look for the mahoe.
A nice area, all mod cons provided including toilets. We had a hot cup of tea and then went searching for the other caches in the area. A fun cache, and yes we tried out the flying fox... several times!

We found this cache during our wonderful journey through New Zealand. Thank you for the cache and the great time in your country! Greetings from Germany.
A trip out to Le Bons from Akaroa today to test out the flying fox and the beach. Like others have found the coords are a good 130m out but the hint sufficed (though it is a mahoe not a broadleaf). Cache was saturated - did what I could, including binning the ruined trades. Maybe the next logger will have a baggy to replace the ripped logbook baggy. Great to flick through the logbook. Logs from a time when people wrote more than just their name....TFTC. This must be in the oldest 50 or so in the island.
We should have read Hello Mrs. log, would have saved us some time searching. But after reading the hint there was only one possible hiding place. No wonder that we did not found it during our last visit - this time we were determined not to leave empty handed. But the coordinates definitely need an update - more than 130 meters out!
Awesome cache. Have had a bach here for years without knowing that it was there. tftc
Just grabbed a FTF over in this bay so had to check this cache out too. Well interesting co-ords to follow but it pays to read then it all makes sense. TFTC SL
Found during a caching weekend in the Akaroa Area with Sharkiefan and macpacmum. The coords took Sharkiefan and I to a place that did not make sense. We then made our way 136M to where the clue indicated the cache would be found. Shaarkie fan had great fun on the flyingfox after a small muggle had departed. I strolled down the hill for a quick find. Lunch followed. TFTC
Had a hoot on the flying fox once I had established that it could hold my weight. Laughed like a little kid and yelled a loud "Woohoo!" Utterly not discrete. Tftc. Awesome
This is cache No. 1111 for the MacPacFamily and think it is really cool that it was in a cache that had been around since 2002. MacPacMum took the high road and MacPacDad took the low road and even though the high road was quicker MacPacDad got to the cache first. Left starfish and took whistle.
Little muggles around so unable to have a hunt for this one! Never mind, we will be back.
I can't imagine a nicer place to spend my last afternoon on my trip throug NZ. TFTC
found it with integersmirk during our Christmas holidays in Akaroa, unfortunately no fish caught but great fun kayaking with the seals and dolphins TFTC
We had fun kayaking around the bay, and dropped in here before heading back to town. Spent some time searching at the published co-ords before realising that it was a multi not a trad. No kids in our group but we had great fun playing on the fox TFTC
Caching around the Bays, thanks for bringing us here,as after finding the Hidey Hole,we then had a play on the Flying Fox.Some kids never grow up.!!TFTC
#7 of 10 on a great days drive to Akaroa. second shot at this one, published coords are waaaay out. A nice quick find, though the drive from Okains was a bit steep for the mighty Caldina, down Panama Road but got there ok. Thanks for the stop.
Firstly tried to find this cache for around 15 minutes, I then read the hint and figured that it was probably over the other side of the domain, I was right when we found it a short time later, I put it around 130m away from its co-ordinates...TFTC
Great place for lunch. Walked passed Muggles on flying fox to find cache.
