Teamed up with chook(nchunk) this weekend for some caching fun. A bit of time to spare before our shift at the Mernda Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser, so we stopped here on the way. Have driven along this section of road many times, and never noticed the train station platform before until now. Thanks for pointing this out by way of a Sidetracked cache. Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, RoamingHowie ~~

Chook was in Melbourne this weekend to support the Geocaching Victoria fundraising efforts at Bunnings Mernda, so of course a spot of caching was on the cards as well. Thanks to the wonderful hospitality and transport provided by OzHockeyChick, it was a fabulous and fun time.Yes it will be interesting to see if this station will rise from the ashes again, as Melbourne suburbs continue to spread out. TFTC RoamingHowie.

Heading homewards to the NE of the State via Harpers AdLab and the Yan Yean Reservoir. We are always excited to find another Sidetracked cache and this one was big enough to leave a tinY train TB! SL at 1.46pm Left: TB #11,006 TFTC RoamingHowie - and now onto the Reservoir.

Out for the day with BoabTree, we cached in the Whittlesea area.We have followed some of the old rail line many times. Thanks RoamingHowie.

Having a day out caching with Echidna44, this was the first cache for the day. I love public transport, the trains and trams are my EVs of choice. We found the cache but failed to see any trains.

04-May-24
I diverted into here while on the way home today for a nice quick find of this one at 15:45. Another nice bit of info/history about the old Whittlesea line. TNLNSL, although our BYO pen geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks RoamingHowie.

On our way to Shepparton, then Tatura tomorrow for their Central Victoria annual get together, we stopped here to eat lunch and me to find this cache. This was a stop to stretch the legs and break in the drive, although it was quite late in the afternoon. Luckily I found it almost before The Driver turned the car around. I love collecting the Sidetracked caches and this is one more to add to my tally. Thanks for putting it out for our fun Roaming Howie. Cache and contents all in good condition.

Nice quick find in a shady spot.

And here it is. Our last day of our spring break, before a long eight weeks of teaching without a break. We made sure to enjoy this day as much as we could; our last lovely day of exploring this giant island, as we woke up near Melbourne, knowing we would sleep back home in dozens of hours after three flights. And so without further interruptions we headed back up north to see a bit more of the country for a brief trip to Whittlesea, not only so we could visit at least one WhereIGo while in Australia. And Im happy we did; as that was our seventh cache type in this country (which will surely help with a challenge were working on). After the find and a lovely walk in the town, we got back in the car and headed towards Melbourne. This was a very quick park & grab which we found without issue; the logbook is in perfect condition. We opened it up and at 12:20 pm stamped in our nick, making this our 7188th overall find. Thanks again RoamingHowie for placing and maintaining your REALLY SideTracked - Yan Yean stash; we were glad to visit it and spice up our Thursday while down under in ????Australia for our spring break, visiting from slightly-distant ????Myanmar! We snapped a photo and returned the stash as we found it, and appreciate the opportunity for a find and visiting another new location. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. For my own personal statistics; this is the one hundred & tenth of 112 geocaches we visited down under while on spring break, excluding the 56 adventure lab caches we visited and 28 Waymarks visited.

Another sidetracked cache ticked off the list. Thank you RoamingHowie for placing and maintaining REALLY SideTracked - Yan Yean for us to find today.

For todays excursion, I made my way to the local Bunnings store, drawn by the irresistible aroma of sizzling sausages. The Bunnings BBQ was in full swing, the air filled with laughter and the camaraderie of community members. I joined the queue, patiently waiting for my turn to indulge in a couple of juicy snags. As I savored the smoky flavor, I couldn't help but appreciate the perfect pairing of my morning geocaching adventure with this quintessential Australian tradition. It was a delightful blend of outdoor exploration and community spirit that made for a truly memorable day. After being fuelled up, I embarked on a geocaching hunt in the nearby area. As I navigated the winding paths, the lush greenery and melodious birdsongs that created a tranquil atmosphere. Each time a container was found its discovery brought a surge of satisfaction. Inside lay a logbook where I left my mark, adding to the chain of adventurers who had sought this hidden treasure and this was one of them.Heading back home now I stopped via this one and noticed Sonic had been here just before me.Thanks RoamingHowie for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

Tftc, a nice and easy find on the way home from geomobile's 170,000km service. Only difficulty was waiting for a large truck with earthmoving equipment to move away from the cache before retrieving, stamping, and returning to its hiding spot.

Nice Spot TFTC!

31-Oct-23
Not exactly the greatest day to be out caching... but at least it was dry and not too windy. I had come out to keep working on **WCW - Cache Local Mighty Challenge**... that's 200 Finds in the Whittlesea LGA. I was done for the day... time to go home and cook dinner... but not before stopping to find this cache as I drove past. Thanks **RoamingHowie** for putting it here. Although the rail line has been slowly creeping its way back to Whittlesea, I don't think you will be needing to take the "REALLY" off the cache name anytime soon!

This wasn’t a caching trip but I did organise a slight detour on our way home to find this August hidden cache to keep up with our Ausmer challenge. We appreciate the generous parking near gz.
Thank you for the cache.

08-Sep-23
Love finding caches around where I grew up great fun

02-Sep-23
Grub62 and I were out and about preparing for a journey north. But a couple of caches to help our stats wouldn't hurt. I parked near GZ and noticed a really lovely derelict house across the road. Now to the cache a very short search and we were signing our signatures. We hid the cache a bit better than we found it but in the same location. TFTC.

02-Sep-23
bunadoorian and I needed to go to a Spotlight and a Bunnings this morning so we headed to Mernda. Afterwards we decided to come and try and find this cache as we were a bit preoccupied when it was published. Today I found it first. TFTC and for bringing us here RoamingHowie. I love the old home nearby - sorry to see it has been neglected.

Out and about with My good caching mate Omegaman1971, there are always plenty of laughs while we are turning caches into smiles.

This is one of the caches found today. Feeding the obsession.

Thanks RoamingHowie for the cache.

What do we know about this one? Well it's right here, that's all we need to know.

I drove up here this afternoon to take a walk in a cemetery.

On the way back, I got REALLY SideTracked.

Again.

07-Aug-23
Another SideTracked catch added to my collection. I think eventually there will be a train station here once again in the future given the population growth in the North. Quick find today. Thanks again RoamingHowie

07-Aug-23
Got sidetracked again! Found the cache safe and sound. I was really taken by the beautiful old bluestone house across the road. A real fixer upper but what a beauty it would be. I wonder if it was the station masters house.....assuming of course there was a station master here. TFTC

07-Aug-23
Are you sure this is on private land? I suspect it is leased or "borrowed". No issue for re-opening the railway.

06-Aug-23
A nice find on the way back from the Yan Yean Cemetery. TNLNSL A nice job on the container.

While setting up for the Bunnings sausage sizzle one of the other helpers phone dinged with a notification of a new cache just up the road.
Our fearless leader would not let us leave our posts so we had to stay.
(Maybe that’s not quite right about our leader so a bit of poetic licence there)
The cacher that was taking over from me was the one who got the FTF on it.
After I had done my shift I decided to head up this way to find this one as it was only a few kms out of my way.
Then of course since I was near Yan Yean Reservoir I might as well do the 2 letterbox’s then head home.

Thanks Roaming Howie TFTC

Found this one on the way back from the BBQ event, seems most people are doing the same thing today!

I noticed the spider figure inside.. I wonder if it’s mine that someone found and moved into this geocache, I put a few of them in geocaches in the local area.

Great find very quiet, nice arachnid too. Found with ??. TFTC

06-Aug-23
A quick find with n0w0rries.
Loved the old farm house across the road.
I wonder if it was once the station master's home.

06-Aug-23
Found with +Wife and EveTheStaffy after attending the sausage sizzle event at Bunnings Mernda.

There was no traffic at all on Old Plenty Road, but Arthurs Creek Road was very busy.
Fortunately GZ is screened from most of the muggles.

Thank you for placing another cache in the SideTracked series for us to find.

06-Aug-23
Found with icw opposite what must have been a grand house in the past. The walls are bluestone and it has three chimneys, but the roof and verandah posts are collapsing. Its amazing what you see when you stop, get out of the car and walk around. Tftc.

06-Aug-23
After finishing my shift at the Mernda Bunnings BBQ I headed north to the Yan Yean Cemetery and then luckily this cache was just off the road that I usually use to travel between Whittlesea and home.
A quick find, signed the logbook, exchanged swag and left a TB.
Thank you RoamingHowie for this cache and therefore adding another cache to the SideTracked Series.

*Found on the 6 Aug 2023 @ 11:13 am.*
*Cache find # 14900.*

I was needing to find a few more caches in the Whittlesea LGA and has there was an event on, I headed over this way once again.
I was only just leaving home when this one was published this morning so being over an hour a way didn’t leave much chance of getting to this one first but as it is in the Whittlesea LGA, I still had to go and find it.
Once I arrived at GZ, I was soon signing in, in third spot.

Dropped off Thor’s Hammer trackable.

**Thanks to RoamingHowie for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
