I have fond memories of Sook and Crustyvarmits attachment to the pooch. This multi stretched my abilities today, but we both completed the walk, found the final treasure. Thanks for bringing us back to this park which has grown so well since I last visited about 15 years ago. The caches here enhance the experience. The_Evil_Muggle even joined me for the whole trek!
I had solved this (at least I thought I did) months ago. Upon coming to find it, theres no way it couldve been there as it was too close to another cache. I then deleted everything started again and upon solving WP2 it was directing me back to the same spot and which time I realised my error and that was WP3 not the final. Kicking myself, I then redid everything finally got to GZ and quickly located. Thanks.
Out and about with McLookers and Micaparamedic after the nearby CITO and event. After almost completing our walk around the park, we headed to the final location for a quick find. Signed as MMM.Many thanks to Crustyvarmint for the cache.
After attending a nearby CITO, McLookers, Muzza and I headed out to to grab a few caches. Working on this multi gave us some numbers that looked like they would work.Arriving at the calculated final soon had the well constructed cache located and the log signed with MMM.Thanks Crustyvarmint for placing this Multi-cache, enhancing the game board and adding to our enjoyment.
Working through this multi while in the area, we made the find at GZ. Great concealment. Found with Muzza and micaparamedic, thanks CV.
A very very late log that I overlooked, I always love walking around this park lots of friendly pooches who love a pat or twosook was a sweat dog with a huge loving nature, Rip Sooky Thanks for the cool camo cache D
A nice few hours out with Geoturtle37, this one was a nice multi find, thanks.
Had a lovely walk around the basin on this wet winter's day. Managed to find each WP with little difficulty. I had one mix up but was quick to realise my error. Thank you for placing this cache here. TFTC
After a morning CITO and event, I decided to head east for the afternoon with The Basin series first on my hit list. This series had all the promises of an exciting caching adventure and it sure didnt disappoint. The team on this one have created a great collaboration.Continuing my loop I gathered all the bits for this multi along the way. Now it was off to the final location. This one didnt take too long to find. Well done n another great cache for this nominee series.A big thanks goes to Crustyvarmint for taking the time to add Crustyvarmint - Sook's Multi - The Basin #2 to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Are you ready for Victorias next big event?Join us for Victorias first ever *Block Party* to celebrate 25 years of geocaching.**When:** March 22 - 23, 2025**Where:** Hume Global Learning Centre, SunburyLog your will attend at [**GCAP417: The Sunbury Event** ](https://coord.info/GCAP417) Visit our [**Block Party website** ](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/the-sunbury-event) for more details on the exciting lineup of events and activities as they are released!

Out with our caching partners in crime picking up the last cache at the Melbourne Water Retarding Basin, before heading here to the Liverpool Road Retarding Basin to complete this series which we started last week. We wandered around the Basin collecting the information for all the WP's including the final co ordinates. Initially the check sum didn't add up as it appears one of the gauges has been excavated since the cache was established. After adjusting our coordinates we were off to find the cache and sign the log which Wetjala did. TFTC.
Lovely story behind this one and we're enjoying the good weather and a walk around the park with our caching mates. A great cache container too, TFTC TNLN
This was the last one from the series that we tackled while walking around the retarding basin with WP1 & WP2 completed, then finding "Argle Gargle" cache before moving on to WP3 and finally WP4. It was fortunate that the CO had included a checksum to validate the answers for WP3 as the 6m depth gauge had been "excavated" at the base exposing two additional numbers that would not have been evident when this cache was first established. So after correcting our initial mistake we headed off to the final coordinates to find the cache proper. I would have liked to add this one to my favourites but I've used them all up! (Blame CO JuzzMagic's eclectic caches for that!)TFTC
This cache held dear to me. I'm out and about caching while my dog Banjo is at home, really sick. It is between finding this cache and logging it that Banjo left us. Thanks Crustyvarmint
With a goal to find a few more nominated caches this year than last year we headed over to the water retarding basin today with the SLiKS team but LetThemEatCache couldn't make it so we signed as Team KiSS. KristysAdventures, Snips & Co & spiffy-. It was super busy and I had to park out on the road because the car park was overflowing.A lot of other sooks around today which slowed down the progress a little having to stop for some pats. Thanks Crustyvarmint for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.
Team KiSS, Kristysadventures, Snipsandco and Spiffy-, set-off to see some of the award nominated geocaches.Loved the collaboration between the COs to put this series together and the well constructed containers. As a team we collated the information and enjoyed our walk around the beautiful basin.thanks for the experience.
Multis are my favourite type of cache; especially those with a check sum! We did all the WPs of this one while walking around find the rest of the caches in this fabulous series. Excellent cammo at GZ.
This afternoon saw Hera and I get together for a long overdue caching day. She had this series in her sights so, not being far from home, we made a beeline to this park. It was immediately apparent that this was a popular dog park, based on the happy pooches enjoying their off-leash freedom everywhere.and the giant mound of poo that greeted us at the trailhead. Lucky the quality of the caches was far more impressive than the quality of the dog owners that frequent this park and fail to pick up their dogs turds. Despite having to pick our way around more land mines than I cared to count, we had a fab afternoon, thanks to the very clever COs who put out this ingenious series. RIP Sook! I only met her once but she was just loooovely. I enjoyed this multi, which took us around the park and past a few other incredible caches. GZ had us guessing for a few moments, but not for too long, although the camo is awesome. Thanks for your effort in placing this cache for us to enjoy.
Fun walk around this reserve. Gotta say I felt a little under-dressed without a caning & lead, but eventually I finished patting others puppies and made the find. TFTC and adventure.
16:29An afternoon walk around the retarding basin, following this Multi...And discovering a fine series in the process.Oh, and this neat hide. Thanks, Crustyvarmint. I didn't have the resources or time to complete the whole series, but this was a fun cache that also filled a hole in my calendar.I'll be back.#8782
It's my daughter's birthday today. We had a look at good places to go to celebrate. This area, with caches by JuzzMagic, iTeem, Washawa, Mister Doctor and Crusty Varmit, plus lots of wildlife for my bird loving parents was an excellent choice. This was the last of the series we completed to get the final clue. It took us a second lap to complete all the waypoints as we had obviously completed our lap of the lake in reverse. It didn't matter though as we were happy to do two laps. On the second lap the sky was much clearer and we could actually see the mountains in the background. We are so sad to hear of the passing of your caching buddies at both of your caches in this reserve. Like Xena, Sook was lucky to be able to accompany you on all your geocaching and travel adventures. We have our own caching buddy (HQJYHJ) who loves to geocache, but he didn't come with us today.A great construction at GZ, where we noted the final clue and calculated GZ for the bonus.
After completing the counter-clockwise circuit of the park, I finally got to gz, where it took a little bit of looking to find the somewhat blended in cache for this one - thinking it was camo / cover for the actual cache lol. Picked up the numbers for the mystery cache, and headed out to look for GCAENH8 - Argle Gargle to get the final numbers TFTC!
I needed some vitamin d so before the weather got ridiculously hot i took the Goldie for a walk in a popular park for pooches. This is a good tour guide of the park although I started at WP3 as clues were gathered the last time I cached here. No trouble at gz. tftc
We had been planning on visiting this park for a while and today was the day. This multi took us on a tour of the area which allowed us to collect a few other caches along the way.A nicely camouflaged container was our reward at the end of the tour. Thanks Crustyvarmint for placing this cache here.Chiefton!!!
This was the first cache of the series that we started but the fourth that we found today. Our 12th cache find in the Liverpool Road Retarding Basin with the previous finds being in 2006 x 3, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2019, 2023 and 2024 x 3. Thanks from D and HA B-A
Once I walked all the way round gathering the clues this was an easy find at the end. Coords spot on. Thanks.
This ended up being a fairly long walk, on a hot day. I went from one corner to the other, collating information and checking coordinates. At GZ the cache was found in the expected location.
Out for an late afternoon caching run with G&J GJMMelb, we collected all the clues as we gathered the other caches in the series and then headed to GZ where the cache was found easily by G. TFTC
Out for a late arvo of caching with quiet1_au, we decided this series would be fun to do and would add to the step tally for the day! Gathering the info as we made our way around the lake, we saw many doggies who stopped to say hello. So sorry to hear of Sook's aging and passing I loved the view from one of the WP's and a friend even recognised exactly where it was when I posted the photo on FB! Photo attached with answers covered. GMelb arrived at GZ first to make the find TFTC Crustyvarmint - GJMMelb
Head height always concerns me.RoamingHowie head height or Mary Maccamob.? Could be a difference of 3 feet!!Caching with Papi4506 and Geoturtle37 who kindly drove me around finding some great caches. Lovely day, lovely scenery, lovely company. Thanks Crustyvarmint for your fantastic efforts and for contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy. Happy trails, Deanside
Gathered all the clues yesterday, did the checksums and promptly went home. Back again with a TOTT for the tree-climbing caches and found this nicely disguised cache. Thanks for the multi.
I was with the group when we made this find late last year but I already had a couple for that day so left it. Today I am back so that I can log the super quick find myself. Thanks for the stroll and the cache.
Out for an evening of caching away from the TV. Took three visits over the last several days to get the clues, but solved the final puzzle tonight and used the coordinates to get within 20m or so of hide. Many thanks.
Nice little walk in this reserve caching along the way...lots of wet doggy pats thanks to the rain that wouldn't stop....my weather app was still insisting that there was no rain..I figured with this multi and the bonus l did about 3 laps of this reserve but it was worth it..collected the information needed and successfully calculated GZ for a nicely camouflaged cache find.
Found today during Walkies time. Our little doggie is getting too old for the big lap around now so some was solved yesterday and the rest today.
With today my last chance to collect a few more caches for the Solstice Souvenir, I headed this way to search out a few I'd been saving for just such an occasion. With a lap of the reserve completed, and calculations er, calculated, coordinates were obtained, and a couple of other caches found also. This was a popular place today, with dogs and humans alike. I had brought our canine companion along for today's outing, fitting given the nature of this cache. A simple but well executed hide here, and all found in good dry condition. TFTC Crustyvarmint
Out and about with echidna44 for another great day of fun, laughter and caching. Love walking around this park (again) Had picked up all the clues we needed for this one and made the easy find. Sooks sounds if she had a lovely life with you both. may Sooks RIP. Thanks for the cache Crustyvarmint.
Out for the afternoon with xambo4u, caching in the Kilsyth area.At each WP we gathered information, then worked out GZ. A quick find in a beautiful area where dogs love to run free. A geodog is great company while caching, and Sooks idea of a sidecar would be an excellent way to travel. Thanks for the cache Crustyvarmint.
Take 2 on doing this series. With my phone charged, I was off to get the last few bonus clues for the mystery, and the last way point for this multi. Great success, I got the clues and did the multi.I always love walking around this park as there is no shortage of friendly doggos who love a pat or a scratch. Sending Sook a big hug and pat Thanks for a special cache
How could I resist a multi in memory of a dog in a place loved by my previous dogs. Nutmeg and Pepper loved the retarding basin. We used to go there regularly. Somehow the location dropped off the radar after they passed on. My current dogs Tansy and Saffy had never been here before I came to find caches. They tell me that needs to change. We had a lovely walk finding the information, they waited patiently for me to do the calculations and escorted me to the final location. A nicely placed cache located quickly. Thanks for the cache and bringing me back to this location CrustyVarmint. Tansy and Saffy also say thank you. A favourite from me.
In the are to visit mum, I guess I picked the wrong time to come here, the place was over run by Muggles and their faithful friends, did the walked crunched the numbers and the cache was soon in hand. It seems like I just keep coming back here for caches over the years, I hope these new ones last. Thanks Crustyvarmint for the cache.
We have cached with Crustyvarmint and Sook and it's nice to see this memorial cache. Of course collecting the information meant a walk around the entire basin - thanks Derek! As we were approaching the far corner I spotted a couple of Australian Shelducks and of course my long lens is back in the car. So off to get the lens and at least one of the Shelducks was still there. Anyway back to the cache. After collecting all the required information there was a short walk to GZ and a quick find. Thanks to Crustyvarmint for the cache.
Ahead of the world cup cricket final tonight, I decided to complete the Liverpool Basin series. First up was the multi. On the circuit to the waypoint I gathered iTEEM's mint tin, then solved the co-ordinates for the next waypoint. And what a unique mint tin it was, great craftmanship! Next up was Mr Doctor's cache, which I solved prior to arriving. I'm glad I did, as it took a bit of listening and research to figure out the bird calls. I would have struggled to do this in the field . It was proving a bit challenging with the nice weather and muggle factor today, but no one really paid me too much notice. With two clues now for the bonus cache I was feeling pretty confident. However, I got a bit bamboozled at the multi WP3 and had to check and recheck my calculations against the check sum. With a likely set of final co-ordinates I ventured onwards to the next cache - Hoist the Mast, by Juzz Magic. This was a lot of fun, and keeping with the high standards of the COs. The co-ordinates I calculated for the multi were about 15-20 metres off, but I spotted a likely beacon and soon had the cache and final clue for the bonus in hand. I came prepared with water, but not enough and I was soon through my 1.5 Litres and no cache in hand despite a couple of near successful attempts. I decided to venture to the lake for a refill of doggy water and back to the cache. This time on my last attempt before needing another refill I got lucky, and was very relieved to have the cache in hand.Thank you so much to the clever and crafty COs for teaming up and putting together this very enjoyable series.
Had no troubles with wp1 and 2, but at 3 we failed to get the checker to agree. rechecked using only the visible numbers, not the actual heights and all was good to go to the final. Final was out by a few meters but widened the search and made the find of the well camouflaged cache.
Thanks for the Cache CrustyVarmit, sounds like you lost a good mate when Sook moved to higher pastures.Friday is the day I get to partake in the guilty pleasure of hunting treasure, and today I found it threefold, all in one reserve. The multi gave me some much needed exercise and entertainment as well as getting to pat a large variety of Canines.I took a book ( John Grisham) which doubled as a writing pad to make the necessary calculations on the way. May confuse the next person who reads it though.Made it to the prize without a stumble and was delighted by the creative container, which I initially discarded in my search.A Favourite for me, that makes three in one day! Looking forward to nabbing the Bonus cache soon.Regards from Victourer
A really nice walk around as we had to leave early for lunch yesterday, MacArthur said I shall return I did with the
Found with icw. We had a great walk around and saw many birds including Pacific and White-faced herons, Yellow-tailed black cockatoos, a Little black cormorant, Grey fantails, Noisy miners, Magpies and White ibises. Tftc and great camouflage.
Stopped by at the Liverpool Road Retarding Basin to do Sooks multi and realised there were a few others in the Basin series to find as well. Sook was such a lovely doggo, so friendly. She enjoyed meeting people and loved a pat. Here is a favourite.. for Sook. It is always nice to walk around this area, today there was lots of bird life around to keep me company on my walk. Thanks Crustyvarmint for the multi. The cache was nicely hidden and a great construction.

Joint [FTF] with omegaman1971Wow what a great day for some FTF hunting. Approaching this location today we bumped into omegaman1971 and teamed up for a joint FTF hunt. A lovely walk on a beautiful day with a fairly quiet amount of people out walking their dogs ????After putting all of our numbers together after collection, we narrowed down the search for gz quite quickly. A very well hidden camo tucked away nicely in its little hidey spot. Our geodog loved following us around for this multi, having a great time meeting some new friends along the way ????Thanks for placing this cache Crustyvarmint ?? A big favourite point from us ??

Opted to skip refueling, went for the FTFs instead. While hunting, teamed up with pinnacle333 for the FTF glory because sharing the excitement with a caching buddy beats solo finds any day.Love the camo on this cache.Thankyou for the cache Crustyvarmint and it was great seeing you again.
GT37 received a message from OHC about going for a stroll to search for the new caches nearby. As chooknchunk where visiting with OHC, we had a great liitle group assault on this series, meeting a number of others along the way, including CO's. This is a really great series. The walk is easy and all caches are great fun to do. Must admit that there might have been a bit much chatting as I walked past a couple of necessary stops. We were awarded with a delicious hot dog at GZ as there was a food van parked nearby. Thank you to OHC and chooknchunk for the invite and company and to the CO's for a really enjoyable series and stroll.
Having enjoyed a fabulous weekend in Melbourne celebrating all things GIFF movies and milestone birthdays, there was time for a few more caches before heading back to Western Victoria. We were with OzHockeyChick when we received the mystery cache notification for one of the caches in this new series, and quickly noted it was one of a series of four caches with a bonus. Working together as a well oiled team, we eventually had the mystery solved. Being a stunning spring day, we decided it would be a fun series to do before we left, so GT37 and Papi4506 were contacted to see if they would like to join us for a stroll around The Basin. After parking the cars, we ran into a small group of other cachers who had already been out here, then headed out on the trail in what turned out to be the reverse order. We enjoyed being taken around the trail by this multi and had no trouble finding the correct numbers at each location. GZ was a neat little hide too. Nicely done Crustyvarmint, thank you. Running low on the fave points to give away at the moment (need to go and do some power trails), but please take our awarded fave point for the bonus as a thank you for this one too. An awesome idea to combine the brilliant efforts of four very talented cache owners.
The snuggle muggle and I got some great deals on cheap flights, so over the Melbourne Cup weekend we decided to leave Victoria and head for the **NT** and Uluru. With having just arrived back in Victoria today, I was excited to see this new little series pop up so close to home.I like to come out to the [Liverpool Rd Retarding Basin](https://www.dandenongrangespoint.com.au/attractions/liverpool-road-retarding-basin/) regularly as it is just a nice little area to walk, however I was beyond excited to be able to do a routine walk today and find some new caches along the way. I needed to find a multi-cache today anyways in order to fill in a missing calendar date for [ahomburg's](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=1ded3729-fe62-40bb-9f5f-fd559e7163b1&wid=6dbc178e-cf55-4705-a97f-435a7b7e6997&ds=2) [WCW - 50% Multi Calendar Challenge (GC9Z58Z)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9Z58Z), and so this multi was the perfect target So when I got back this afternoon I decided to stretch the legs and come grab this multi. It turned out to be a nice straight forward multi, with the information easily gathered at each of the three waypoints. I was sadden to hear about **Sook**, but it only seemed appropriate that this cache was hidden in honour of her here, as there were lots of doggos out enjoying the sunny weather this evening. I even had to take a detour and find [Juzzmagic's](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=c059cdc2-1457-481a-a52d-cd34a6bd0246&wid=5ce2133d-1ef4-4364-a9f9-7f41c08a2971&ds=2) [JuzzMagic - Hoist That Mast - The Basin #1 (GCAEBBW)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCAEB8W), due to a few doggos and their owners playing fetch right next to GZ.Luckily when I returned, the area was clear and I could make a search uninterrupted. I was able to lock in on the correct beacon quite quickly and then it was only a minute or so of searching before I was able to find the well camoflauged cache.A big thanks goes to [CrustyVarmint](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=5f1abe4d-306f-4cca-86e0-748cabfdd5a4&wid=d0f058e7-3db9-4f05-b7bb-a0c302444f62&ds=2) for the beautiful walk and for the fun multi today. TFTC.**Cache Maintenance Status**All of the signs were in good shape and very legible. The cache camo looked amazing, and the logbook was clean and dry with plenty of room for future cache finders to sign.
TFTC! 12 November 2023 12:40:04 pm 6415 thanks for the awesome multi! {STF} Enjoyed calculating each of the points. A few caches found between way points. Really loved the camo on this cache. Very simple. It effective! Thanks for the great series! A beautiful day for a walk around here!
Teamed up with chooknchunk, Papi4506 & Geoturtle37 to visit these new caches - the calibre of all these COs' caches too good to resist. We gathered all the required info as we wandered around from cache to cache, chatting as we walked. With all the calculations made, we headed straight to gz where the cache was soon found and signed by all. Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, Crustyvarmint ~~
