Up this way with ABCDF4 for a few daysSo to the CO for making our time away enjoyable
Very controversial indeed , rocks was a challenge but the only way to get the cache , tftc
M26: after traversing through the rugged terrain due to the path being closed, we found the cache easily. Log all good and signed here. TFTC.
Heading back to the car on a wet afternoon. Shame the walkway is still closed. Saw some windsurfers enjoying the weather
Out and about today with Pyphant and 2/3 of Greenkiwikids. On our mission to help a bunch of aliens fuel up their spaceship for the Cosmic Quest, we came along this cache. We made our way climbing over the rocks... Big fun for the kids. Cache quickly discovered and signed. Nice and easy (the cache, not nececssarily the rocks). Thanks for hiding and maintaining. Tftc
Out work himself and get dog on a blustery winters morning for some light caching. TFTC. Quite the adventure scrambling over the rocks round the walkway! This one was hard to get out of its home and was missing its container, only log paper there. I have replaced and camoed a bit.
Searched for cache with no luck, as we walked away I spotted the log on the ground, no 'San Fran' though, signed & wedged back near hint. TFTC
Meet a local who told us about Firth house. It was coming up for tender this week. We scramble around the rocks. Like a lot of the locals.
There was a man who sat on the seat just as we approached it . We sat down on the seat next to him, and chatted to him while at the same time finding the cache. The man had been involved with the nearby property by where the path is blocked and told us a lot about the history behind the history of the property. TFTC
Yay, I made it back to the foreshore! As I walk approaching gz, I was guessing the location of the hide, so I walked past a lady taking photos, put my bag down to claim the spot, and took a few photos too. She came up and we had a lovely chat. Apparently she usually sits here but today is too cold, and this has been her daily walk for years. She is quite apprehensive about moving to Melbourne next week, but she has no family left in NZ. I came away with a better appreciation for Auckland TFTC!!
Now I'm not going to encourage ignoring council directives but there's a perfectly fine alternative that means you can head all the way around the coast - just scramble over the rocks a bit. Nothing too strenuous but good shoes are probably a good idea. Good spot for a cache here too. Thanks!(#2205)
Another walk along the foreshore this morning grabbing some caches in the sunshine. As we got to GZ some muggles sitting on the seat but we went over to read the closure sign and but the time we had finished they had moved on. Made a nice quick find and then walked back to the car.
Missed it earlier, walked up stairs to main road and down again. Primo spot so a couple of peeps were sitting here for ages chatting. Luckily they left before my patience so I can find and log the cache.Onwards and upwards! Tftc
What a great little cache in a nice spot. Walk going well, 4th find of the day
Parked up around the corner and sniffed our way here in the pitch black. Not sure why anybody would want to sit here with that unpleasant aroma. Quick find then back to the car and carried on into Takapuna.
I was going to do this walk regardless: they cant stop NZers walking on our foreshore. I wasnt alone. Its a very busy pathway! Tide was low-ish and the whole path easily navigable in sandals as the volcanic rocks are quite grippy. Lovely views, interesting history, an adventure lab to add to the fun and weird rocks to look at. Whats not to like? Thanks for placing this one, G2.
Weird geocacher or not geocachers at gz ?? Pen in car photo of log Notes above are from when I found it - some people at gz said they were geocachers but they had no pen . I think they were just answering my questions to how they thought they should answer them .No issues here - nice walk way Tftc
Great hide had to wait for someone to move though, they were right on top of it. Intresting about walk way a localwalker stopped to chat to us about it. Hadn't heard about it till this. TFTC
It is such a shame the council cant come up with a solution here as Takapuna to Milford is my favourite Auckland walk. There was a lovely elderly local sitting on the seat so I sat down and started chatting to her and explained what we were doing. AV did the honours with the cache and after chatting a little more and enjoying the view at full tide we carried on.
Its such a pity this part of the track has closed. Wish a compromise could be come to. Everyone is missing out. Nice quick find here as well as chatting to a lovely local. [TFTC]
Out caching with Team Welsh this morning for the first time in several weeks. There were a few people out enjoying a morning walk as we made our way towards GZ, but not much activity there. A nice spot to sit and reflect on life. Thanks.
On a beautiful summer's morning we made the short walk down to this cache. There was someone sitting right at gz. Waited, waited .... They got off the seat only to stand 2 metres in front of the seat to do some exercises..... Gave up waiting. Will have to try another time.
Made my way here with KC and this is a familiar spot. A couple of fisherman on the rocks and a couple doing staged photos but apart from that it was quiet. Cache soon located and we sat for a while and just enjoyed the view. TFTC
Day 21: The unexpected trip to Takapuna Todays journey was an entirely unplanned one thanks to a delayed flight that meant that we could only leave on the 24th rather than today as scheduled. Since the wife was stressed and all, it was a good day to unwind by the beach up in Takapuna. So, we made the trip and we found a few caches along the way around the area. Thanks for all the caches here, it really made the best of an otherwise slightly stressful situation. (End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for this cache:I have walked down this particular stretch of foreshore before, and I really loved it, so it was a shame to see the spate spill over and cause a bit of inconvenience. I suppose local governance matters are a bit over this non-locals head, so I am hardly going to express any opinion on the issue. The cache here, of course, is that sort of cache, and I think I have expressed my opinion about it elsewhere, so I will maintain the peace here. TFTC in the lovely spot, I am most fortunate the seat was unoccupied today.
I'm down in Auckland for a geocaching weekend with Yvettetb. It was her birthday yesterday and I wanted some cache numbers to bring my December finds up. Hence a plan was made to hit Auckland.Yesterday we did the walks in Long Bay Regional Park. We walked 18.7kms and got 30 caches (including AdLabs). Todays plan was to cache around Lake Pupuke where we got 27 caches and did 10.8kms of walking. A quick find here and a comfy place to enjoy our cans. A bit disappointing with the walkway closure. Quite a few people were clambering around the rocks to get past this bit. I'd have been inclined to do the same but Yvette didnt fancy the scramble. Thanks for the hide
What an awesome view from this seat, we stopped here to enjoy the view and for a cold beverage. A quick find at GZ.Day two of my birthday long weekend and what better way to celebrate than by going geocaching with Lis's Crew. What are great summers day for caching in/around Milford.
I came here last week and couldnt look for it as there was someone sitting on the bench, today with the rain threatening nobody was around. Quick find but it was exactly as pretty the hint, it was on the side. TFTC
Geocaching tourist information at its best! Saw a news item... [https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/502484/walkers-injured-after-part-of-track-closed-due-to-council-vs-landowner-stoush](https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/502484/walkers-injured-after-part-of-track-closed-due-to-council-vs-landowner-stoush) ...and thought, we've been along that walkway. Where is it closed? So looked on the geocaching map, and saw that a cache we had found a year ago had disappeared [Black Rock pumping station ](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2R8KW?luid=ee7a5717-487b-4d7e-a76d-ec21fb531d0f )And the replacement cache told us exactly where the closure is! Great view and a good rest after completing the takapuna to milford coastal walk adlab! Thanks G_2
And less than a week later were back on one of our regular walks and amazingly on a sunny Saturday afternoon theres no one sitting there. Yay. Swooped in for the cache and admired the view before turning around and heading home. Thanks G2
I can see the hardest part of this cache is picking a time when the seat is unoccupied. Unfortunately today was not the day. The sitters looked like they were in for the long haul. Luckily this cache is on a path I do often so hopefully I can get it some day soon.
**#19,343**Permission has been granted by the CO to log this find, if we make it back in the area and if the controversy is still going we will add our name to the logsheet! Thanks again, and also thanks for the update on the situation at hand!
I became aware of this freshly published cache this morning, as I headed into work. I gave some thought to changing which bus I was going to catch and detour to work via ground zero. In the end I decided to just head into work and avoid the showers that were about this morning. With work taken care of by early afternoon I noted that there were still no found logs on the cache page. Well, I jumped on the next 82 bus and headed towards ground zero. I alighted from the bus and made the stroll down and around to ground zero. I managed to spot the hide on approach so was rewarded with a super quick find. The blank log sheet confirmed that I was indeed first to find (FTF). Hopefully this stand off can be sorted sooner rather than later. Cheers for the cache placement!
Somehow I accidentally discovered this before publication, when I was in the area. Was absolutely gutted to see this popular walkway is closed.Have done it many times....Including Coastal Classic many years ago.I saw a lot of people taking the rocky option....but not for me .I do hope a solution will be reached.Signed with permission of C O.A lot easier than the previous cache in the Rocks that used to be here! Thanks Glyn
