What a cool earth cache. So the real question is: why was German imported stone selected? Making iconic buildings with imported stone seems... so colonial . Enjoyed browsing the walls, much to the confusion to a hi-viz dressed council worker.
Nice Earth cache, doing this with SmallPooka who is explaining a lot of interesting stuff..Limestone is beautiful
I had the last half day in Auckland, so I went to Mount Eden and visited this earth cache on the way. Very interesting place. Thanks for showing
Out caching with TL. TFTC! Sending answers for teamlarcee and nildran. I tried to note today's date on my finger in the picture.
many thanks for the cache-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --French version below-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Short late log but more complete now that we are back home. Our vacation will take us to the other side of the world to the land of the Maoris. After many, many hours of flying, a passage through China on the way there and through the United States of America on the way back, we will finally arrive in Christchurch which will be the starting point of our journey. We will enjoy the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and we will go back towards the North Island via State Highway 1. To combine business with pleasure, we will take regular breaks and small detours according to the caches that seem the most accessible to us.With a little more than 3500 km in 20 days, we will have discovered many facets of this island which is soothing. We will have to come back because there are so many places that we have not done . In broad strokes, the path will go from Christchurch to the Kaikoura Peninsula then towards Picton for the crossing to Wellington.New island, new road, and by State Highway 2 we go towards Hastings and Napier. We will leave the seaside for several days to go to Tongariro and Taupo. We will continue north towards Rotorua and Hamilton (without forgetting a detour via Hobbiton ) A detour to the Coromandel Peninsula and finally the almost north of the island with Whangarei and Waitangi to learn the history of this country. There will only be a few days left to spend towards Auckland and its suburbs before taking the plane back to the grayness of our European autumn. The majority of the boxes will be found, we have abandoned those where our English was lacking and where we could not understand the clue. Thanks to all the owners who brightened up our path, who took us to incredible places (that's also geocaching)In short, we had a great vacation, saw beautiful places that simply ask us to come back. We learned a lot about the history of this country and its traditions, it's a great motivation for our destinations.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Petit log en retard mais un peu plus complet maintenant que nous sommes rentrs la maison. Happened to walk by. It was a little latish, so didn't go to the gallery, but just studied the stone - this can also be considered art if needed. It somehow indeed felt European here. Anyways, answers sent - and thanks for showing the gallery.
#4128 Today is day 29 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm wandering around Auckland and geocaching.Found it! tramyard, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 29, 2024 @ 10:54:49[GCAG6YX] Fossil my Art in Auckland Gallery was a D1.0/T1.0 Other Earthcache at the time of finding.
I found quite a few earthcaches on a similar theme last year when I was in the UK, so it is interesting to see how stone is formed, and to see creatures that lived so long ago.
Thank you for the cache. It was super fascinating. We really liked it. Me and Joel, Sol and Daniel
Was in the area for the inaugural event on a bus so decided to explore a little first. I have visited the art gallery a number of times but had never even realised these fossils! So interesting to explore this from a new view point Answers sent to CO. Thanks for setting this up!
Up in Auckland finding caches today. I found this earthcache particularly interesting when I read about the natural stone with fossil in the walls and floor. Quite amazing really! Thanks for setting this up, answers sent to the CO
I would have definitely not thought of coming here to look at fossils as I was completely unaware of their presence! Thank you for bringing me here and making me notice! We ended up having lunch here, and I was spreading the word as even the locals who come here frequently had not noticed. TFTC!!!
Up in Auckland for the night with EyespyBenWalk up to this one great earthcachethanks
We had so much fun today in the city with the kids hunting out hei caches and watching city people do city people things Such great conversations. I never knew my kids already knew do much about fossils and they really loved looking at the panels and imagining what they used to be. There imagination are so good and strong. Thank you for slowing us down to look at these tiles, I never had before and been here alot! We didn't take a wider view photo so I have sent the original by message and am posting a blured version here. TFTC
Quite a special experience visiting Auckland (Tmaki Makaurau) for the first time, visiting from Darwin, Australia. Strolling around Albert Park and hearing the various bells and clocks chime at 10am I would never have known that this Gallery was clad in fossils, so thanks for the Earthcache and science lesson tramyard Time to go inside and enjoy more wonderful, interesting things
After an event came over here with Sharkbait to complete this cache. As I studied the wall I am sure some other patrons probably wondered what an old fossil was doing. Answers sent. Thank you for the placement.
M26: dot day today, walked over here with supernanny and KayGeeDee to answer the questions in this earthcache. Hopefully the photo pops up on the log. TFTC.

Out for the big hike film night and had enough time to grab a few caches. TFTC. And noticing the tiles!
We were nearby today so called past to complete the requirements for this cache. The answers have been sent through to the CO. We spent some time exploring around the building too.
I finished work and didn't want to head straight home, so thought I would have a stroll around the CBD, and of course grab a cache.I headed to GZ and grabbed the answers to the questions, and then likely spent way too long looking at the stones to see what I could spot. Great little earth cache, thanks for making me stop and look for a bit. Tftc #1714
#14,577. I was up in Auckland last week attending some meetings and had some time in the evening to go for a wander around the inner city. I saw this earthcache and came and had a look at the wall. Its amazing what small past things you see if you look closely at a sheet of stone. Done quite a few earthcaches in Europe with fossils embedded in the wall of buildings. So many of our buildings here are concrete or hard rock like basalt or granite so it was surprising that we also had a building with lots of fossils. Thanks tramyard for pointing this out. Have messaged through the answers you requested.
Last day in New Zealand we walk through the city and take the boat to Devonport. We pick up some caches along the way. Tftc
Spending the afternoon after lunch clearing the rest of the CBD. This one is new to me, and it was also nice to observe the mundane. Who would've noticed there are fossils in that wall, if it not were for this cache. Ng mihi, TFTC
Was in the city with TheLandGirl to attend a show this afternoon and we also took the opportunity to attend an event being held in the city. After the show, we went to the Auckland Art Gallery for a look around and also took the opportunity to complete this Earthcache. Our answers have been sent to the CO. Thanks for showing us these features, I had never noticed them before!
Popped over to this one after our event. It was nice to meet the CO there. Answers have been sent. TFTC
During our two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia, we travel today from Waitomo to Auckland. Before we leave we visited a glowworm cave in Waitomo. When we arrive at the hotel there is still time to visit the city. We visited this earth cache at the Auckland Art Gallery. We looked for the answers to the questions and took a nice photo.**tramyard**, thanks for the cache.
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Singapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. Yesterday we drove from Rotorua to Waitomo. This morning we naturally visited a beautiful glow worm cave. Thereafter we started our drive to Auckland were we will spent the comming night. Not a long drive so we have plenty of time for some sightseeing in Auckland. Lured by this earthcache we also visited the Art Gallery to study the fossils. Found some really nice specimen. The answers have been sent by janvandevis. Thank you very much for this interesting earthcache.
Updated cache page with how to find the right spot (tile) with the main fossil ...
Struggled finding the plaque, think might be behind construction holding. Will send answers soon
Was in town today and made a point to swing past here to look at this interesting cache before heading down to the nearby event, TFTC
Since there was a nearby event and this recent EarthCache wasnt too far from accommodation it was pretty easy to make the decision to detour on the way to the event. Some great examples here in the walls and floor of fossils. Good stuff. TFTEC!
After a meeting at UoA I took a detour through the park back to the Civic busstop. This cache made me observe the stone tiles and I learned interesting facts about its materials. Thank you for this amazing cache, FP awarded for an urban earth cacbe
The only thing I know about rock is a joke about Jack Schist so yesterday when I was here caching I decided not to do this one as it was "too hard"Low and behold the activity today the muggle wanted to do was an exhibition inside, that got a he'll no from me, but I did sit here and do the cache after a wander up and down Queen Street to go to the Ghost 'I left for next time'Excuse the pump and hairline, I need an empty plastic bottle for pink tonight and being a thermos drink bottle girlie i needed to aquire one and was wondering how to write my name on it with a biro, I failed
Greetings from Seattle! I traveled down under with jtcoffee to attend the Great Leap Forward Mega-Event in Adelaide on Leap Day. Of course, a trip from Seattle to Australia just wouldn't be complete without a detour through New Zealand ??Per usual, We're squeezing in as many extra activities as we can, including, but not limited to:? Logging our geocache finds in the southern hemisphere ????? Finding Australia's oldest, [GC3E](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC3E) at Lane Cove, and the first-ever Earthcache, [GCHFT2](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCHFT2) ??? Enjoying the spectacle of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Sydney ?? Cruising along the scenic Great Ocean Road ??? Completing a challenge that requires finding 31 Earthcaches and 31 Virtuals in 31 days ([GC32TBZ](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC32TBZ) and [GC32TC2](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC32TC2)) ?? ??? Finding the oldest cache placed outside of the US, [GC46](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC46)? Exploring the iconic Lord of the Rings filming locations across New Zealand ??This is our last full day in New Zealand and naturally, we're going to spend it finding all of the caches. I have to admit that I was always pretty focused on getting as many waymarks as possible. Answers for this one were sent in by my personal Earthcache coordinator, Jessie. After logging this one - we went inside and found a bunch of postcards in the museum shop. Win-win. Thanks for placing this one and thus contributing to our epic adventure ??
Hello from Seattle! ?? ??After an amazing trip along the southern coast of Australia heading from Sydney to Adelaide to attend a Mega-Event with my fellow Lackey and best Geobuddy Giacaches, we headed over to New Zealand for a week of caching and adventure - as I often say, we've never been closer, so it made perfect sense to plan for a stop. We have a loop around the North Island on the schedule, and I'm so excited to see all the things there is to see!Today we wrapped up this trip with our last full day in town in Auckland. There were so many things to find here that we just parked and wandered to explore -- and we found some great things! After checking this out, we headed inside to pick up some postcards. Thanks so much for adding this stop to our epic adventure! ??
First visit in New Zealand and I'm lucky to find a new earthcache. The questions could be answered quickly. Thanks to tramyard for setting up these interesting EC, my EC number 300. That's wort a favourite point, here it is. - T4TC!

Danke fr diesen Geocache. Danke fr die Ausarbeitung. Danke frs Zeigen.Lieber Gru aus Duisburg / DeutschlandAndyDieser Logeintrag wird mit Hilfe von Google bersetzt.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________We set off on a long journey with 37 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Three weeks to Australia and New Zealand, starting with a stopover in Doha, Qatar. I have never been so long and so far away from home. An exciting time. When geocaching, the focus was on many different cache types, but also special ratings, challenges and especially a few very old caches from the years 2000 and 2001. But also, of course, especially the geocaches that were easily accessible on foot from the hotel.Of course, the focus wasn't just on geocaching; the sights of the individual stations we visited also deserved attention. We entered our team name Downunder 2024 in the logbooks, saving logbook space and efficiently. It was a very special trip in a large team, which was also a lot of fun.Today we had the whole day to geocach in Auckland.Due to the large number of caches, there is usually only one standard log, for which I would like to apologize to the different owners. Thanks for this geocache. Thanks for the elaboration. Thank you for showing me.Kind regards from Duisburg / GermanyAndyThis log entry is translated with the help of Google.

A group of 38 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland - Team Downunder24 - are traveling for 22 days from Frankfurt/Main via Doha to Australia and New Zealand. I was able to discover many wonderful things and irretrievable experiences are burned into my memory. Today biggidag and I had a whole day free in Auckland. We start at the Skytower in the morning and got a great overview of the city on the water. We then took the Uber to various points around Auckland that were of interest to us. In the early afternoon we treated ourselves to fine food at the harbor and then walked back to our hotel in the city, where another event took place at the end of the day. The answers were sent out to the group Thanks to tramyard for the cache, luring and caring for it - kind regards from Switzerland ????
On my journey through New Zealand with the group (DownUnder24) I passed many beautiful places. It is very impressive. Thank you very much. Greetings from Germany, muschel3

Together with 36 other geocachers, the KiSt team undertook a very long trip to Australia ???? and New Zealand ???? for three weeks. On both the outward and return journeys, there was a stopover in Doha, the capital of Qatar ????.We experienced a great deal on this trip and gained many very different impressions of the two countries, their nature and their culture. Of course, the main focus was on visiting as many caches of as many different types as possible and also all accessible old cans. However, we also made sure to visit many special places of interest and to gain as comprehensive an impression as possible of nature and its flora and fauna. To save the logbooks, we usually signed in with our team name **Downunder24**. For "special" cans, however, we have not missed the opportunity to leave our nickname as well. This beautiful cache is now also one of our finds.Due to the large number of caches visited, it is unfortunately not possible for us to write an individual log for each can, which is why we would like to apologize to the owners for this collective log.We also met other cachers at some of the events and were able to share our experiences. Many thanks to the event owners!Of course we would like to thank all the owners for showing us the great locations, the sometimes tricky puzzles, exciting multis and wherigos, as well as the interesting virtuals and earth caches - TFTC!!!---In der Besetzung KiSt unternahmen wir zusammen mit 36 weiteren Geocachern fr drei Wochen eine sehr weite Reise nach Australien ???? und Neuseeland ????.

First day in Neuseeland ??. This is my first visit to this extraordinary country and the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. In the past, it always failed due to the lack of a travel companion. Now I had the chance to join a large group of mainly German geocachers and I was delighted to take it. After a stopover in Qatar and 8 days in Australia, we landed in Auckland late in the evening. Fossils are often a popular topic for earthcaches in cities ??. I have often dealt with such questions and have seen many beautiful fossils. I sent my answers to the owner via Message Center. Thank you for laying & caring .Erster Tag in Neuseeland ??.
We were headed over for a walk in the Domain park after arriving from the airport and passed by this EC. A nice area for fossil hunting. Thanks for the fun cache. Answers sent.
Here with Jag 50 and she has sent in the answers on our behalf.Interesting fossils. Thanks Ark .
Loved My visit to this gallery and great to find an earth cache here too. TFTC.
We caught the bus into town to find the newish caches with Net61 and Supernannny. As we approached the art gallery we walked behind an Asian group who had just exited their bus. Some of them were heading towards the art gallery. It turned out this wasnt the way they were supposed to go and so they all had to backtrack. Once at the art gallery we soon started to spot the fossils. Thanks Tramyard for showing us these as they could easily be overlooked. Answers have been sent to the CO. Thanks for the city earthcache
Had an hour or so to burn and hadn't been to the Art Gallery. Not much of an art enthusiast, but do like the geology of these buildings - in Sydney we have a lot of Hawksbury Sandstone which isn't so conducive to fossilisation, but is very impressive nonetheless.Actual art museum, while not huge, was free to visit and had a number of nice exhibitions. Well worthwhile. Answers Sent, pics attached. Thanks for the Earthcache
Visited GZ today & submitted answers to CO. Would have never looked at these tiles so thanks for bringing me here. [TFTEC]
Greetings from the UKThanks for pointing out these fossils, very interesting. Answers have been sent, TFTE.
I've been back in NZ for 6 days now and hadn't found a cache yet, and I've wanted to do this one since it came out, and I also wanted to catch the WX1 to work today instead of the 11, so I combined all of those things this morning and walked to this cache on the way to the bus stop. For all the times I've visited the art gallery, I had never noticed the fossils! So it was great to see them today and figure out what they might be and how they formed. It was also cool to have an Earthcache that isn't based on volcanoes like so many of the other ones in Auckland are. That just made this one even more interesting!I've sent my answers to the CO and attached a photo. Thanks for setting this up (#2130)
Love an earth Geocache. Thanks for bringing me out here. I love anything with a fossil in it. Poked around outside and now Im going to go in the art museum and take a look. Trying to stay awake on my first day in New Zealand. Auckland is very interesting. It is making my life very easy. Thank you.
### New Zealand 2024 ###On our 1 week tour North New Zealand tour we visited many caches in Auckland, Habbiton, Taupo, Huka Falls, Piha and Mount Eden.We had a lot of great experiences along the way and had a lot of fun searching for the caches. Thanks to all the owners for the great caches Team sissifalke
3 weeks (adventure) vacation in New Zealand ???????? for dschinny and me. We are very excited about what awaits us, what we will experience and simply are looking forward to a wonderful time together in this beautiful country ??We will spend 1.5 weeks on the North Island and the rest of the time on the South Island. Today we arrived in Auckland by plane in the morning. To be honest, we are a bit tired and exhausted, but of course we won't let that stop us from discovering as much of Auckland as possible today. The best way to do this is with the help of geocaching, which mostly takes you to places that are not always tourist-like.We really liked Auckland, it is a very beautiful city that is definitely worth a visit. I hope we can come back one day with a little more time and have a longer stay here. As we only spent 24 hours here, we took a long walk and found many caches. Our main focus was on the VirtualCaches "hidden" here as well as on EarthCaches, which usually show interesting and special places - like this cache. We hadnt had the time to visit the Auckland Gallery, but we made a stop for this Earthcache.Of course I will add the required photo to the log, our answers has been sent via MessageCenter to CO.Thanks a lot for this cache and many greetings from two German GC-crazy New Zealand vacationers ???? zh9 ??
The rain came flooding down and we sought refuge in the art gallery. We have sent the answers to the ECO. Photo attached
Dear Owner, please excuse the one-size-fits-all log, but we will try to summarize our experiences in a few words, which is almost impossible in this beautiful country. Our route took us from Frankfurt am Main via London and Hong Kong to Auckland, where we spent 3 wonderful weeks on the North Island of New Zealand. After spending the first two days at the other end of the world in Auckland to get used to the 12-hour time difference, we spent the rest of the time criss-crossing the island in our fantastic camper van. The nature and landscape here is simply uniquely beautiful. We drove a good 2500km, saw beautiful, lonely beaches, visited impressive waterfalls, were at the foot of a volcano, visited ancient trees and enjoyed the wonderful views of nature again and again. Of course, we also searched for, found and logged a few geocaches along the way, looked at geolgical features and tried to complete the owner's tasks. For us, it was an all-round perfect vacation that we will remember for a very long time and we will certainly come back here again if we can. Thanks to the owner and best wishes from Germany Fantalismus
