Having a well-deserved 'me' day even though I really need to do school work but that's what public holidays are for right. Looked at some cars nearby then headed down here to sit by the water for a bit and this handy cache was on the way. Neat little spot you wouldn't otherwise know about.
An interesting little stroll in here from the road while I am visiting from Sydney. Once at the site the cache was quickly in hand. Thanks TaraTed.
What an amazing find hidden in the bush and under growth I wonder how any people have any idea the grave is here or what role he played in the area of new plymouth . It really needs some T L C and attention brought to it ! it was such a lovely day so i suggested that i took M in Law out to lake rotomanu and have a picnic lunch over looking the lake . we did this which meant we past the newer cache out that area , which i went and located , and sat and watched the water skiers and jet boaters enjoy the lake The cache was relatively easily located and i was soon walking back to the car and then down to the lake for our picnic lunch . . After 2 hours we went onto bell BLock so M in Law could have a short walk along this walk way and i could try to attempt this new cache .
Take the route less traveled thru the native Bush. Less gorse, however, still a bit of a clamber.
One of us ventured through the spikes to find this one. Stayed 2 nights at the lake... lovely place to camp.
Lucky I had my scrambling gear on - the gorse was a bit unfriendly! Good to have another cache round here. TFTC
We drove past on the way to Lake Rotomanu to do something with one of my geocaches. (I archived it actually.)As I was here when it was placed, and FTF has-been claimed it's now time to 'find' it myself.Originally discovered Tupoki's grave taking a shortcut on an orienteering event nearby. "The things we find!"Cheers, TFTC
#14,843. Parked for a short walk in Fitzroy, New Plymouth. The GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Relatively quick find, once the memorial plaque was spotted. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.*Thanks for the geocache placement, and for bringing us to this site, and **.T h a n k s. .f o r. .t h e. .c a c h e.**.M a u r u u r u. .k o e. .n u i. .a t u. .h o k i. .t e. .k e t e r o k i.*
We were staying nearby, so after completing the multi, decided to try for this one. A way in was located and only a very little bush-bashing later, we came upon the grave, then the cache was quickly located. Signed log and replaced as found. All ok with the cache. TFTC TaraTed.
Woo what a wonderful surprise to find this little spot thanks Tara Ted for the placement
MiddleGun9 was at Keas so JrGun9 and YoungestGun9 and I went looking for this cache to fill in a bit of time.We took the most likely path in but backed up a bit when a better entry was found. In the thick of the bush I had no idea where to look but thankfully the memorial was spotted and shortly after the cache was found. Then after a bit of checking we decided the way we came in was more or less the best way to exit.T F T C TaraTed.
Out early with rattll around our over-night stop at Lake Rotomanu. Picked our way into the vegetation to find the sadly neglected grave site. Cache container was obvious. Thanks, Tara Ted, for showing me this little piece of poorly known history.
This one was very close to where we were camping, so matagouri and I headed here before moving on with our trek North. This is such a random spot for a grave, which we'd never have realized was here but for this cache. Thanks for setting this up and highlighting the spot for us
What a beautiful morning to come out for this cache! But what a sad state of affairs when we arrived at GZ. One of the loneliest grave sites Ive seen. What a pity it remains unkept and unkown..But not for long as its a great spot for a geocache so I hope Mr Tupoki appreciates all the visitors hes about to receive. Said a hello to him and admired the metal framework then spotted the cache. Yay an empty log! As Im all about the stats this year this is my overall 102nd (FTF), streak day #154 and cache total #2890 Thanks TaraTed and a FP for helping my streak along another day.
Have a good sleep in in the morning trayc.g says last night as she tucks us in.next minute Im being shook awake at 8.15am with her saying thats enough of a sleep in, time to go get this (FTF) sitting there taunting me !!!!Ummm ok!!!! So after leaving a batch of cinnamon scrolls to proof for an hour or so we headed off. As soon as mum says oh thats sad I KNEW what we were coming up upon because she says the same thing everytime we come across a situation like this. I mean this IS my #1649th find with her so I know ALL the emotions. Thanks for cache. An interesting spot that I wondered and kept asking how the heck you found this spot!?! Now off home to make a glaze and cook the scrolls. p.s Happy Armistice Day 11/11
