Found this one yesterday on the way home from a function. A well prepared and very well hidden cache. The secret information was obtained for future use. TFTC.
Great hide. Gets a fav. As catnap777 and I explored the Pentridge Precinct using this fine series of caches as our tour guide, we saw tour groups of muggled being walked around the area and couldn't help but wonder....Imagine if, just 30 years ago, with the benefit of forsight, someone was showing inmates around the prison grounds....".... and this is where the wine cellar is going to be, and over here is a lovely icecreamery and cafe. Over there is where the Cinema is going, and right there in B division, there will be an 18-level residential and hotel tower where guests can stay for just $400 a night." I think that person would be put in a straight jacket, separated and silenced very quickly. TFTC GJMMelb.
16 November 2024 14:38What an awesome set of caches, with almost every variety catered for. dalerious and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here wandering around looking for all the clues. We definitely racked up the steps going from one end to the other, and everywhere in between. We got a bit tangled there for a while, forgetting which clue to keep for which cache; this meant visiting some areas multiple times.Apart from that minor setback, and it was only a setback because the heat was becoming oppressive. We loved the detail you put on the cache page, and also for the cache containers.A bit of history from my past........My family used to have a Mobil Service Station on the corner of Bell Street and Suffolk Avenue back in the late 60's early 70's and I remember driving past Pentridge Prison when it was a prison as a little girl.My how things have changed.......I like the way it has been developed. A good mix of accommodation and private living, but also keeping the history alive as well.dalerious and I have been looking forward to coming here and seeing how you have implemented the caches into this environment. Well, it works. You have done an amazing job.dalerious and I have shared out our favourite points so that he has given the 2 mysteries a fave, and I have given each of the multis plus the trad a fave each.Awesome caches GJMMelb, thank you for providing them for us to enjoy.
My first introduction to Pentridge and on a glorious spring day what better place to start.Interesting alleyways and bluestone buildings. An appropriate cache for find #38000.Many thanks A favourite point from me..
I enjoyed the walk towards the abandoned buildings in this vicinity. A quick find once at GZ and in good condition- kind of grateful that i didn't have to cross any boundaries to find it. TFTC
Another cool hide, i loved the clever camo. I headed off for a day in Melbourne attending a few events, visiting family and filling in the rest of my time caching. Unfortunately some of my plans fell through so i cut the day short and headed home early. HMPP - Separate and Silent is find number 4,098 for me. A fun small sized traditional cache I enjoyed finding as one of my caching adventures in Merri-Bek City. I am logging this one on Wednesday 2 Oct 2024 at 3:29 pm and the weather is Few Clouds 18C 48% 4 m/s . Thanks for placing this cache for the rest of us to enjoy GJMMelb.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
While the wife was at the market close by, a couple of the little spuds and myself went exploring. A nice quick find to be made here, we loved the creativeness.. thanks for placing for us to find today.
Ive been a bit quiet with caching lately because we are in the process of selling our home and my MILs house. They are both on the market now and given that Im not a footy fan I took the opportunity to have some me time and collect these Pentridge caches this afternoon. This trad was my first for the day. Knowing some of the COs MO, I spotted the hide quickly. Thank you GJMMelb for placing and maintaining HMPP - Separate and Silent for us to find today.
My GPS was all over the place, spent way to long wandering around. Lots of signal bouncing. Eventually found the well hidden cache.TFTC
Having a lovely day out with Tenkae and ConnieandRick enjoying a lull in the weather. Enjoying a walk, chat and laugh! We continued onto the the cafe here for lunch before wandering around these amazing buildings. Id never been here before and vow to returnThanks GJMMelb for showcasing this area and contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy. Happy trails!
Spring Victorian Incursion 2024.Day Six: Merri-bek (which ProjectGC is still calling Moreland at this point).Weather: the wind was back briefly, but generally a great day.On a recent trip to New York, friends suggested that we drive to Philadelphia for the day and tour the old penitentiary. Not something that I would have picked, but it was really very interesting - the concept of no contact with anyone while you think about what youve done. The Quakers were behind it; they thought conventional prisons were inhumane. The building design needed for such a modality was radical, and the whole thing was doomed because of increasing numbers of prisoners. This is a cool hide, and gets my Favourite Point for the series, thanks GJMMelb.
Here for a CITO and an event, but needed a small find today, and what a great one it was. Gets a FP.
I had a couple of hours to kill after I dropped a couple of my Daughters in the city to go to the musical Six. With that time I thought I would get out of the inner city and take a stroll around Pentridge. After taking a lap around for the Adventure Lab and the Guard tower Mystery I had time for one more find before I had to head back to pick up the Girls. Lucky it was a quick find because they called to say they were finished as I was making the findIt was a pleasant place to visit these days not sure I would have liked it much in years gone by.Thank you GJMMelb for the hide
*Found on the 17 Aug 2024 @ 3:34PM.**Cache find # 15745.* It certainly turned out to be a nice day for a stroll around Pentridge, checking out this and that while collecting clues and numbers for the multis, puzzles and AdLab in the end I had all my GZs, so off I went to find them all.I nearly forgot about this one, it was only that I was missing 2 numbers for the puzzle cache that I realised that I still had to find this one and find it I did, did a bit of straightening at GZ to make it look more realistic as it was a fair way out on an angle.**Thanks to GJMMelb for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
I started the HMPP series four weeks ago and today I was back in the area, to attend the monthly Coburg Lake CITO. After the CITO I was able to take a short walk and find this cache. Most importantly I remembered to collect the clues.Thank you GJMMelb for this cache and all the work that you have put into this series.
12:12Following another successful planting jaunt by Coburg Lake, n0w0rries and I wandered off for *just one more.* In a pocket of the old prison site that I'm confident I've never been previously.Something, er, stood out...Nice one, GJMMelb. Thanks for the hunt and a bit of a history lesson.#9065
Just one more.As the saying goes.A final find with nirgalagrin before heading back towards home.A very well camouflaged cache here.Thank you for the history lesson, the cache and the series GMJMelb.*Clue collected*
Suscoe enjoyed a terrific time in the old Pentridge Prison area today. We were looking forward to this adventure as we have historical family connections to this place. We enjoyed the wandering and gathering of information and the caches.A brilliant day out enjoying caching. Thanks to GJMMelb for placing this cache.
A bit of construction or restoration or maybe both going on around gz so I wasn't quite sure how to access gz without ending up on someone's doorstep. Eventually I managed to navigate my way and after a quick search spotted the clever hide. Thanks for the cache GJMMelb.
And I thought a mega bison was just a very big buffalo! Thanks once again micaparamedic for all the help.
Stopped by after the nearby CITO, for a quick find, of a good hide.Whilst marvelling at the transformation of Pentridge!TNLNSL Thanks
Got confused by the location and ended up walking around the entire block only to come back to my original location to where we found it TFTC
A cold damp day to find my 50th cache. Hidden in a great corner I pass near on a regular basis to visit the farmers market. Tftc
Out and about with echidna44 for an enjoyable day of caching. Starting off with catching up fellow cachers for breakfast at the jail we hung around to check out some in the area. We ventured across the road to a flurry of workman and a thrive of industry. Apartments everywhere and nowhere to park. Which pathway to take and so many doors. It looks like another blue stone piece of history over here. Excellent hide and cache is in good condition. Picked up clues. Thanks GJMMelb for the caches and challenges here.
Back to De Chene Reserve for soccer training so why not go for a short walk to Pentridge. I remember driving past here many times as a kid looking at the amazing stone work. How lucky are we to be able to now walk around inside. Such a magnificent building and to think this was once a prison. Not much time on my hands tonight so it was nice to have a quick find. Ill definitely be back to have a better look around soon TFTC
Came with work friends during morning break. Thank you GJMMelb, perfect camo, I appreciate the work gone into this one!!
After the June Breakfast, I went caching around Pentridge with xambo4u. Many little lanes and one-way streets. not a place I would like to live !!!Clever hide, thanks GJMMelb.
Thanks for the fascinating series around here. I look forward to solving the others when I have more time. The conditions the prisoner were made to endure sound horrendous by today's standards. Would be enough to put me off re offending!
Completed the Adv Lab (which I loved) while Miss D was at soccer training just down the road. Still had some time to kill so honed in on this one. Was a little worried I was on the wrong side of the gate/fence but then spotted something I thought might be it and sure enough it was. Clever hide, well disguised TFTC.I look forward to completing the series.
After being away for a bit it is now back to suburban or rural caches after work to try and beat my last streak of 67.It is just a personal challenge that Im working on and Im going to try and make it to 150.So it is now decision time to either take a small detour on the way home or a larger detour on the way home to find a cache to keep this going. So todays detour was to Coburg and to Pentridge Prison or what is left of it.I remember coming here when it was still a prison and seeing a couple of the shows put on by the Pentridge Players.I also remember doing a couple of tours of the place not long after it closed and it was great to come back and have a look to see all of the delvelopment. After eventually working out how to get into GZ I soon spotted something and had the clever cache in hand.I added my name to the log and I was on my way.A fav goes out to you for this one. Thanks GJMMelb TFTC.
Yay, a nice fun find on my exercise stroll around Coburg this beautiful autumnal Saturday. Lovely original camouflaged cache.
Needing some exercise and having missed today's event and city and fitfully working on a challenge, I decided to start at Fleming Park, walk along the Merri up to Pentridge and have a go at the newly created series centred on the site. I didn't quite realise that the whole trip including caches would result in roughly 19.5km of walking but I can tell you I felt it on the way back to the car as I navigated the service-laden Sydney Rd. footpath.Seeing as how this is the portion of the log which will serve as a common bit of text to all my logs of the day I want to take this opportunity to have a bit of a rave about the Pentridge series. I can see it wasn't appropriate to nominate for the 2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards but I'll be certainly nominating the series as best-in-class for the 2024 awards. This is **exactly** what geocaches are at their best: cheeky & brilliant camo, well chosen spots for hides that don't have high levels of muggle traffic, meticulously researched cache text that informs a cacher about what they are seeing as they navigate the site, accurate sets of coords and finally coverage of the bulk of a fairly large area. Well done GJMMelb a real tour de force and many thanks for a very enjoyable afternoon. My logs will include this standard blurb and then a comment or two about each cache separated from this blurb by a dividing line. ---My first find of the series. Although I'd found a few of the CO's previous hides I didn't realise that they had stepped up the level of camo creation so I missed it at first. I then thought I'd find a way into the waste ground in between buildings but quickly realised there was no way to legally enter that area so back I trotted to the original location and then laid eyes on the cleverly concealed cache. Have a FP for the great camo and extensive and informative text on the cache page.
After the last cache, people started to separate to begin the journey home. Tiz13, BlackOpal2005 and I continued to this GZ as it was on our way. Tiz13 spotted the well camouflaged cache and the find was made. BlackOpal2005 left us shortly after as she was heading in a different direction. Tiz13 and I made our way to Coburg Station as we had a target to find at Jewel Station. Thanks GJMMelb for placing this Traditional Cache to enhance the game board and add to our enjoyment.
Find number 13351 at 12:31:00PM on Wednesday the 1 May 2024Come over to this part of town today to attend the breakfast event and then mosey over to the CITO across the road to help tidy up around the lake Ducked in here in between turrets for a quick find, this place will be pretty busy once all these buildings are finished.**Thanks for placing this cache GJMMelb**---The nominees for the [**2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards**](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/2023-victorian-cache-of-the-year-awards) have now been announced.Find as many of these amazing caches as you can before voting opens later in the year. The full list of nominations is available on the [Geocaching Victoria website](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/2023-victorian-cache-of-the-year-awards)
I found this cache today on my Mega Walk #18 - a 22,000 step walk firstly around Coburg, then from Fawkner and onto Brunswick. I was a little early for the event so I ducked in for this one first, just after 8:00am. A quick find and a lovely execution. I forgot to collect the numbers for a later cache, but thankfully, that did not matter in the long run. Thanks from D B-A
Last of the prison series 4 cachers became 3 as we made our way to our respective choices of transport. One more cache to be found. Tiz13 swiftly spied the crafty cool cache..a great series. It was great exploring this area in such a way.
I was a lovely Sunday afternoon, and Pentridge is not far too from home, so we decided to attack this new series of caches which had popped up. There are so many little lanes and alleyways here we had to do some backtracking and round abouting to get to GZ. This clever cache was found speedily.
Cool little cache in a relatively new residential neighbourhood. Great to explore outside the main prison walls.
What a great little cache! Super creative and clever.Partner and I werent feeling too confident in the surroundings and we were super ambitious to go at night, but alas, we found it and were super excited!Love that Pentridge has a cache location as it is such a great spot, thanks guys!
Teamed up with Geoturtle37 to check out the new Pentridge caches. We started here. Once we figured out a way in to gz, the cleverly concealed cache was soon found and clue noted. A fav point heading your way. Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, GJMMelb ~~
OHC and I had plans to start this mini series during the week but my situation changed and that put a stop to that. As it turned out, it was for the best as we managed to complete all the caches in the series today, not just start it.We had a great time walking around this location and I would love to go back and spend some more time and possibly do a tour. This was found with no difficulties. Thanks for a couple of hours of fun with the placing of these caches.
Out and about with My good caching mate Omegaman1971, there are always plenty of laughs while we are turning caches into smiles. This is one of the caches found today. FAV for the hide. Thanks GJMMelb for the cache.
Plenty of construction activities on a Saturday morning nearby. All good at GZ. TFTC
Out once again with Rebel Acts putting some smiles on the map, always great to be on the geo hunt. This is one of the caches we successfully found today, Cheers for the cache.
{FTF} 10:20amIts been a long and stressful week so it was nice to have a slow start to my Saturday. I heard the phone beep, then again, and again, and a couple more times. Gee someone has been busy! I took a quick look. Ahhh GJMMelb have been busy. I went to put the phone down as they are on the other side of town, but just caught a glimpse of a number starting with 2. Surely it wasnt only 2kms from my house? Im due to change my contacts so I assumed it was my eyes playing tricks on me, but a closer looked confirmed what I had first thought.Pentridge! They are in Pentridge! Thats near me!Throwing that slow start out the window, I rushed out the door and jumped in the GeoRanger. Go Go Go! I think I managed to nab every red light and slow driver and with at least 3 speed camera locations and a police car enroute, I behaved myself the whole way to the parking coords despite the evil RoamingHowie whispering in my ear to floor it.As I neared the parking coords a big sign Farmers Market Saturday Morning) greeted me. The universe really is working against me here. I managed to find a spot in the end of a dead end parking row, which in my truck was not an easy thing to maneuver but I made it.Off I set for the 200m odd walk. Great that at least some of this historical old building has survived.I followed the walking paths on my map, which took me on a supposed path which was actually apartment front doorsteps. Dont do what I did, turn right earlier and all will be good! Maps are not always correct.I arrived at GZ and let the GPS settle. Hmmm what is this. Oh yes! Thats the one. A clever hide here. I quickly retrieved the cache and opened the log book. Woo hoo is was blank. I signed my name and replaced it. As I walked away, it occurred to me. In my haste I had not bothered to write down the clues inside the front of the log book. Back to the cache I went, as quick as I could. Clues retrieved and log replaced, again! The temptation to start work on the others was great, but with them being so close to home I decided to keep them as emergencies as I have had to use up a few of my local caches recently.A big thanks goes to GJMMelb for taking the time to add HMPP - Separate and Silent to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Nominations for the **2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards** are now open and will close on **17 April 2024**.
