16 November 2024 14:08What an awesome set of caches, with almost every variety catered for. dalerious and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here wandering around looking for all the clues. We definitely racked up the steps going from one end to the other, and everywhere in between. We got a bit tangled there for a while, forgetting which clue to keep for which cache; this meant visiting some areas multiple times.Apart from that minor setback, and it was only a setback because the heat was becoming oppressive. We loved the detail you put on the cache page, and also for the cache containers.A bit of history from my past........My family used to have a Mobil Service Station on the corner of Bell Street and Suffolk Avenue back in the late 60's early 70's and I remember driving past Pentridge Prison when it was a prison as a little girl.My how things have changed.......I like the way it has been developed. A good mix of accommodation and private living, but also keeping the history alive as well.dalerious and I have been looking forward to coming here and seeing how you have implemented the caches into this environment. Well, it works. You have done an amazing job.dalerious and I have shared out our favourite points so that he has given the 2 mysteries a fave, and I have given each of the multis plus the trad a fave each.Awesome caches GJMMelb, thank you for providing them for us to enjoy.
Found with catnap777 on our Pentridge escape to Melbourne. This was our first visit to "Bluestone College" (both defore and after it's closure) and Boy! Did we get an education! This place is huge. We got ourselves in a bit of a tangle trying to complete the two multis in this series and the AdLab simultaneously in an effort to not double back on ground already covered. Jumping between platforms and caches turning letters into numbers and back into letters to then turn them all into numbers for coords, we soon had ourselves in a fine higgledy-piggledy mess. In the end though, after some double and tripple checking, we eventually found ourselves at GZ of each and signing some very well camoed caches leading us off again to the final. I had a lovely walk around Pentridge finding the answers to these questions. Ive never walked around here before so the whole thing was interesting. Took me a few moments to locate the staircase but it was where it said it was, I just wanted it to be elsewhere. Found the cache with K.J.R. Thanks and FP for your research.
In the 2 which soon stretched to 3 hours I worked through a couple of multis and puzzles. Fascinating history throughout The hide was as good as the others and gains a favourite point...
Thank you for the trip around Pentridge. I have very limited knowledge of the place. This opened my eyes to the cruel conditions the inmates had endured, along with the forms of punishment, along with the escape attempts. Fun fact, my uncle worked here just before its closure in 1997. TFTC and the history lesson
Another breakfast and CITO out near Pentridge, so I arrived early and walked around doing puzzles, multis, and an AdLab.A lovely morning for a walk around the grounds.Started my sentence by walking thru the front entrance.Strolled around the grounds collecting clues and keeping an eye out for AdLab stages.A couple of stages were harder to find than others, but eventually collected them all.Did my calculations and set off for the final. No muggles around the area made it a quick find. Thanks, Robmc.
Multicache # 981Steadily working my way towards a couple of minor milestones.Aiming for 1,000 multis. This find is also # 10,499 for me.With the hard yards done some time ago today it was time to check this one off the list.A nice quick find at GZ when something NQR was spied.Thank you for the cache and the series GJMMelb.
I was feeling a bit tired by the time i tackled this one and decided to find a comfy seat and do a little virtual touring rather than the real thing to work this one out. It all went well until i copied down the wrong coords and headed off to a likely but wrong gz. After a thorough search i sat down again to check my work and found my mistake. Once at gz i only spent a short while searching before the clever hide was in hand. All in all, a bit of a favorite. I headed off for a day in Melbourne attending a few events, visiting family and filling in the rest of my time caching. Unfortunately some of my plans fell through so i cut the day short and headed home early. HMPP - H.M. Prison Pentridge is find number 4,100 for me. A fun micro sized multi-cache I enjoyed finding as one of my caching adventures in Merri-Bek City. I am logging this one on Wednesday 2 Oct 2024 at 3:35 pm and the weather is Few Clouds 19C 52% 4 m/s . Thanks for placing this cache for the rest of us to enjoy GJMMelb.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
Ive been a bit quiet with caching lately because we are in the process of selling our home and my MILs house. They are both on the market now and given that Im not a footy fan I took the opportunity to have some me time and collect these Pentridge caches. I think I circumnavigated the prison a few times today between the Ad Lab, the multis and the puzzle caches. The Pentridge History and Development Gallery was closed today but I was able to work out GZ with the assistance of the checksum. Thanks so much for providing it. I really like the cache container at GZ too! Well done!! Thank you GJMMelb for placing and maintaining HMPP - H.M. Prison Pentridge for us to find today.
*Found on the 17 Aug 2024 @ 3:01PM.**Cache find # 15743.* It certainly turned out to be a nice day for a stroll around Pentridge, checking out this and that while collecting clues and numbers for the multis, puzzles and AdLab in the end I had all my GZs, so off I went to find them all. There were a lot of people doing different tours around here today but I felt that with this cache and the AdLab, I was on my own private tour, interesting hide at GZ.**Thanks to GJMMelb for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
Suscoe enjoyed a terrific time in the old Pentridge Prison area today. We were looking forward to this adventure as we have historical family connections to this place. We enjoyed the wandering and gathering of information and the caches.A brilliant day out enjoying caching. Thanks to GJMMelb for placing this cache.A favourite.
Doing a few caches with ConnieandRick, micaparamedic and Thumpa67 after the July Coburg Lake CITO.After completing 'HMPP - Pentridge Industry and Education' Connie and I were eager to try this cache. We helped Thumpa67 understand what we needed to do, and chatted while we wandered from WP to WP.I felt very strange walking through the Main Entrance as I had last walked through the gates when I was in Year 12, and we attended the play "Twelve Angry Men" put on by some of the A Divisin inmates. It definitely wasn't the type of excursion many students go on.Thank you GJMMelb for this very interesting and informative cache.
Did this with the help (thank you for your understanding, patience and driving you nuts) of micaparamedic, karlud and connie&rick.
Out with micaparamedic, Cathlud and Thumpa67 after today's event. It was a long multi, but the sunshine and chat was great and it was great to help a new cacher work their way round the various stages and WPs. Micaparamedic was very patient indeed, as he'd already found all the ones we did today, but helped when we got a bit stuck. Thanks for a good multi and hide. Also learnt a lot about this site. How it's changed!
Some fascinating stories while collecting information for this cache. Living locally I've seen this developed over the years and they've done a very good job of maintaining so much of the original building to preserve the history. A clever hide at gz capped off an enjoyable experience, thanks for the cache.
Out and about with echidna44 for an enjoyable day of caching. Starting off with catching up fellow cachers for breakfast at the jail we hung around to check out some in the area. Just loved walking round and round the site seeing how this area has been transformed. We had trouble with the last clue needed but we managed to achieve the end result. Thanks GJMMelb for the caches and challenges here we had a great day.
After the June Breakfast, I went caching around Pentridge with xambo4u. We collected the required information, did the calculations, then found the very sneaky hide. Thanks GJMMelb.
This was another cache I had saved for a rainy day. Today was it, although not raining in the physical sense.I had collected the answers on a walk around the area with Bernieh earlier in the month and all that was left was to make the find. This is a great location for some caches, particularly those that help highlight the history of the area.I arrived at GZ and began looking before spotting a well camoed cache. This one gets a favourite for the effort that has gone into the multi and the placement.A big thanks goes to GJMMelb for taking the time to add HMPP - H.M. Another fascinating cache at H M Prison Pentridge. So much history and so many sad stories too. I enjoyed my wander around the grounds today. TFTC
After being away for a bit it is now back to suburban or rural caches after work to try and beat my last streak of 67.It is just a personal challenge that Im working on and Im going to try and make it to 150.So it is now decision time to either take a small detour on the way home or a larger detour on the way home to find a cache to keep this going. So todays detour was back to Coburg again as I had another appointment which was very close by and after that it was back to Pentridge Prison or what is left of it.I remember coming here when it was still a prison and seeing a couple of the shows put on by the Pentridge Players.I also remember doing a couple of tours of the place not long after it closed and it was great to come back and have a look to see all of the re development.A nice walk around early afternoon gathering what was needed. The weather must be keeping the crowds away as it was nice a quiet here.Soon had a set of coords and off I went.Something caught my eye and I soon found a very clever and well constructed cache.I added my name to the log collected the clues and I was soon on my way back home as the car was not to far from GZ.A definite fav goes out to you for this one. Thanks GJMMelb TFTC.
Second of a trio of caches here on this chilly evening following the restaurant drop-off down the road. A very interesting journey although having calculated a final set of coordinates, things looked a little strange. In the end, all was good and once at GZ, it wasn't long before I had the nicely hidden stash in hand at 19:40. TNLNSL, although a couple of our geocoins had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks GJMMelb.
I found this cache today on my Mega Walk #18 - a 22,000 step walk firstly around Coburg, then from Fawkner and onto Brunswick. In company of Tiz13, micaparamedic and BlackOpal2005 after the event, in amongst all the other balls that we had in the air, we had the answers for this one worked out and decided to head out to the position to collect it. A nice cache hide. Thanks from D B-A
After the CITO at Coburg Lake this morning, everyone broke off in groups and went their own way. I headed off with Tiz13, BlackOpal2005 and Rabbitto. While cutting laps of Pentridge, it became obvious that everyone had the same idea, just the order was different. We kept bumping into various groups. Friendly banter within our group and between groups added to the enjoyment we were receiving doing the new caches around this significant historic structure. This was just one of the caches we found today. Thanks GJMMelb for placing this Multi-cache, enhancing the game board and adding to our experience.
Needing some exercise and having missed today's event and city and fitfully working on a challenge, I decided to start at Fleming Park, walk along the Merri up to Pentridge and have a go at the newly created series centred on the site. I didn't quite realise that the whole trip including caches would result in roughly 19.5km of walking but I can tell you I felt it on the way back to the car as I navigated the service-laden Sydney Rd. footpath.Seeing as how this is the portion of the log which will serve as a common bit of text to all my logs of the day I want to take this opportunity to have a bit of a rave about the Pentridge series. I can see it wasn't appropriate to nominate for the 2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards but I'll be certainly nominating the series as best-in-class for the 2024 awards. This is **exactly** what geocaches are at their best: cheeky & brilliant camo, well chosen spots for hides that don't have high levels of muggle traffic, meticulously researched cache text that informs a cacher about what they are seeing as they navigate the site, accurate sets of coords and finally coverage of the bulk of a fairly large area. Well done GJMMelb a real tour de force and many thanks for a very enjoyable afternoon. My logs will include this standard blurb and then a comment or two about each cache separated from this blurb by a dividing line. ---This was the fourth cache of the series that I found but the first I began to work on when walking around the site. Firstly, let me say what an absolute power of work it must have taken to compile all of the history and select a physical feature for the required value at each WP. Second, if I have a quibble it would be that at WP6, I did look at a sign labelled C Division in the gallery but the text didn't match up with that which was asked on the cache page. I took an educated guess based on the surrounding numbers and as it happened I was correct but the CO might like to check the text of the sign just in case something has changed. Lastly, what a cracker bit of camo! It isn't often that cache camo can bring a smile and a chuckle after having found a few thousand but this one was certainly a pleasure! If I could I'd give this cache 2 FPs - one for the extensive work in compiling all of the historical information and another for the camo. Really, a great effort.
Find number 13350 at 12:07:55PM on Wednesday the 1 May 2024Come over to this part of town today to attend the breakfast event and then mosey over to the CITO across the road to help tidy up around the lake What a beautiful day for a wander, solved the clues earlier this morning and collected the prize as we wandered around the Adventure Labs. Loved the hide!**Thanks for placing this cache GJMMelb**---The nominees for the [**2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards**](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/2023-victorian-cache-of-the-year-awards) have now been announced.Find as many of these amazing caches as you can before voting opens later in the year. The full list of nominations is available on the [Geocaching Victoria website](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/2023-victorian-cache-of-the-year-awards)
It appeared that most of the cachers from the CITo today had the same plan. So off we headed in our various groups to find this new series. Tiz13 teamed up with micaparamedic, BlackOpal2005 and Rabbitto. What an awesome series we all enjoyed ourselves as we cut laps of the prison. This was one of the caches we found on our trapeze.
12:21Like I need an excuse to go for a bit of a wander around Pentridge...These caches have dropped at a perfect time, placing a couple of Multis and a pair of Mystery hides close to home at a time that I'm trying to fill in gaps in the calendar.Like today.I knew what I was looking for in pretty much all of the locations, and probably already have photos sitting in Google Photos, which made things a bit easier. The coordinates? Well played. And the cache container was on point.Excellent work, GJMMelb. See you in the morning. Back in Pentridge.#8825
I was a lovely Sunday afternoon, and Pentridge is not far too from home, so we decided to attack this new series of caches which had popped up. This multi took us quite a while to do. I was surprised at how many buildings there are. Before the housing development was done. I remember doing a tour of the jail, I will never forget the grim Jika Jika building. We visited each way point and I was surprised that we managed to do everything correctly. At GZ the clever cache was found without any problems. Awesome!
This one has managed to escape the prison and so is external facing now. Quick find and ready to complete the series now.
OHC and I had plans to start this mini series during the week but my situation changed and that put a stop to that. As it turned out, it was for the best as we managed to complete all the caches in the series today, not just start it. We had a great time walking around this location and I would love to go back and spend some more time and possibly do a tour. As we approached GZ, we weren't sure where this might be but the cache was found in one of the few hiding places at GZ. Thanks for a couple of hours of fun with the placing of these caches.
Teamed up with Geoturtle37 to check out the new Pentridge caches. Such a lot of work has obviously gone into this multi. We enjoyed finding the info at every wp. Sometimes it was as if we were tagging along to one of the tours! Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, GJMMelb ~~
Out and about with My good caching mate Omegaman1971, there are always plenty of laughs while we are turning caches into smiles. This is one of the caches found today. Thanks GJMMelb for the cache.
Out once again with Rebel Acts putting some smiles on the map, always great to be on the geo hunt. This is one of the caches we successfully found today, Cheers for the cache.
I had gathered some of the information on a previous visit so only had to explore the final 3 waypoints. Stopping by after work it didn't take too long to gather the remaining information. Lots of muggles about at the GZ but they were just out of sight of me grabbing the nicely camoed cache. Thanks for the local history lesson. I love the old bluestone buildings.
As per the cache page, the info for WP 6 is in the Pentridge History and Development Gallery S 37 44.200 E 144 58.134 (approximately). The History and Development Gallery is on Level one of the shopping centre, opposite the cinema. The gallery is free and open "all day". Once inside the gallery you will see information about C division to answer the question.
Some of the clues were tricky to find especially the last wp, I have no idea where it should be as I walked around inside for ages and ended up using another method which got me there in the end. Thanks GJMMelb for HMPP - H.M. Prison Pentridge#6140
After FTF success at Guards Watching, I decided to try for the 2TF here. Its a really well put together multi. I had some problems at WP3 because i didnt realise the bluestone wall being referred to was the huge one behind me, not the little one off the right. The rest went well, until soon enough I was standing at GZ, puzzling. Puzzling because nothing matched the hint at all. And just as it was dawning upon me that despite all the clear instructions my numbers were wrong, I recognised the COs nearby. It turned out I added wrongly for B, leaving me about 30m North of where I should have been. They shepherded me 30m South, and watched me discover the neatly camoed cache, and sign for 2TF. Thanks GJMMelb for all your work here.
